When we were in Monterey for a conference I googled where do locals eat seafood and Sea Harvest popped up. It's a no frills seafood market and restaurant. You get in line, choose your seafood and the way you want it prepared. Grab a drink from the fridge and pay. Then find a seat either inside or outside. Wait for your buzzer to chime. We went back to Sea Harvest after many years. Food quality seems to have gone up and now they have seating outside in a back patio. They have a small lot with parking, which is fine if you get there early. You pick up a menu from the counter and order, then grab a table and wait for the buzzer to go off. Fresh and delicious seafood in a casual setting. We came in for dinner last night around 5:30pm and the dining room was already full (and we beat the line--by the time we were eating there was a line out the door). Lots of seating outside, but we didn't want to sit in the cold. We ordered a kids fish and chips, seafood pasta, combination seafood and chips, raw oysters, grilled scallops plate, and grilled rockfish plate. Everything surpassed my expectations. The oysters were so fresh and delicious! The fried items had a nice batter and didn't feel oily/greasy at all. The coleslaw, rice pilaf and fries were a great accompaniment to all the seafood. This restaurant is sit down but you have to order at the front counter and a buzzer is handed to you for self pick up. The fish and chips had a nice flavor but did get soggy while eating. Suggestion would be to serve the fish along side the fries and not directly on top to avoid them from getting soggy. The calamari had good flavor, but the texture was dense and a bit underwhelming.
