Had a team dinner after a meeting last weekend (sat) and it was one of the best meals I've had in Monterey! We ordered a lot of food and drinks but my favorite appetizer was the calamari. It wasn't chewy and I'll admit I ate more than I expected to. I also ordered the filet mignon and lobster. There was ample amount of lobster meat and ended up sharing it with a coworker. I appreciated the kids menu as my son was able to order a pizza. I also enjoyed my Moscow mule! Service was great. Our waiter was always around to get us whatever we needed from more bread to more drinks. We made reservations that morning but we got table by the window. read more

The food is very good. The atmosphere is old Monterey and comfortable. Been going there off and on since the 90's. My complaint has always the same. Owner/management can be so rude and arrogant. I've seen the owner literally scream at all waiter in the middle of a busy dinner rush. Over bringing an unsatisfactory looking plate the owner insisted he deliver.. The owner came out of the kitchen extremely angry and inappropriate. The server cared more about the customer satisfaction than the owner the restaurant was named after. We were there in August. I had the calamari which is always fabulous. Nice wine choices. Restrooms and restaurant not that clean looking. Slow service. Don't recommend because Monterey is so full of fabulous restaurants. read more

We came late to fisherman's wharf towing 3 hungry kids and the first restaurant (won't mention the name) we saw had a big sign in the front saying if kids start being loud in the dining room they will be booted from the dining room. Needless to say we were quite worried about our dining options. There are many restaurants on the pier and what drew us to Domenico's is the person at the front said kids were welcome and we could get a waterside table. We had a wonderful experience here. The drinks were good, our server David was attentive and friendly. My husband got the New York strip, I got the snapper special, and the kids ordered from a kids menu that had a lot of options (spaghetti, pizza, popcorn shrimp, fish and chips, chicken tenders etc). The highlight was that my kids saw a bunch of seals frolicking in the water right next to the restaurant. The restaurant had great ambiance and we were so comfortable here. Back at Domenico's at Fisherman's Wharf Monterey! Juan remembered my family and I from our last trip. He did a great job once again meeting our specific picky needs when placing cooking our orders. The seafood is outstanding, fresh, delicious, their plates were well presented with enough food to fill your stomach to the fullest. Wow!! Impressed! Was expecting a total tourist trap! Instead met with gorgeous views, attentive professional service, and great food! The complimentary bread and butter is a MUST! Garlic butter and fresh baked breads great Caesar! The shrimp cocktail was the only disappointment. The shrimp were not jumbo prawns and didn't seem fresh. The crab cake sandwich was killer!! Unfortunately we fell into the tourist trap here. This place is nothing more than that. With tons of popular menu items listed as "market price" but of course they don't tell you what that price is- even when you order. The service was switched to a much younger server (maybe mid 40s) once he saw the size of my party because then he could tack on that automatic gratuity. I found that incredibly unfair being that my party wasn't a group of 10 guys hanging out for happy hour- it was my 5 children all under the age of 12. Anything to add extra $ to the bill. They grab you from the pier almost literally and then before you know it you're ripped off for almost $1,000 dinner bill. The service was very rushed (they know what they're doing), so rushed that he actually didn't remember to give me back my card- it was still in the chip machine. That's how quick they wanna wrap it all up and get you out. I hope to visit Monterey again but never this place read more

I would like to start off with the host outside the restaurant and Samuel our bus person were the saving graces of our dining experience at Domenico's on the wharf. We weren't sure what we wanted to eat for dinner our first night in Monterey, but we felt like some seafood and a bit fancy. We knew if we chose an Italian restaurant, our kids would most likely order pasta and we could get our seafood fix. Now let me talk about the good: The food was delicious. We started off with the crab cakes, clam chowder, seafood Alfredo, and a cioppino. Our kids had a clam chowder in a bread bowl and our youngest had the kids pizza. Now the bad: Service. Our server was Patrick. He seemed annoyed when he greeted our table. He asked us if we needed more time, I said sure, but a few minutes later he returned and asked if we were ready to order drinks. I hadn't even looked over their wine list. I wanted to order something local while I was here. We ordered a local chardonnay, he poured a glass then he left and came back with my hubby's cocktail. I tried not to let his negative vibe ruin our dinner and our beautiful view of the wharf. He returned took our food order and we didn't see him back until we received our food. My hubby filled my glass, then Samuel came with an ice bucket and my hubby continued to fill my glass. Patrick never came back to ask how our food was or to you guessed to fill my glass of wine. He was however attentive to our other tables in the restaurant. This was not a fine dining experience; a coffee diner at best. Thank goodness for Samuel, Patrick even got a tip at all from us. I'll die saying it, but some people still tip on service. Samuel cleared our plates, checked on us and even offered us dessert and brought our bill. If Patrick just did the bare minimum and treated us with decency, he would have received a 20% tip. We're that easy. I had cash, I should have asked for change or gave the whole tip to Samuel, but I gave him the majority of it since he was the one that actually took care of us. I had higher hopes for this place. We had another table reserved elsewhere, and dined her instead, but next time we're in Monterey we won't be coming back here unless Samuel is our server. Thank you and the host for taking care of us. The views are spectacular. This service is phenomenal. At Fisherman's wharf on a Saturday and decided on this spot. The batter on the calamari was thin and seasoned the way I like it but it got a little messy because the breading falls off easily. Their house tartar sauce is sweet and pretty good. Clam chowder, unique to Monterey Bay I guess, has bits of carrots in it and adds sweetness to the chowder. It was creamy and pretty good. The hole cut in the break bowl was a little shallow though so there was more bread and less soup than at Boudin's. read more

We've been going here for decades. I remember when John Pisto would come and greet you tableside. He was amazing. When I was in nursing school and broke we would go for their all day happy hour and they treated us with respect and like we had just as much money as anybody else was there. Have been there for beaucoup dinners with friends and family. Love their winter time locals specials. If you live locally they have a special reduced price locals menu. So good. But by far my hubby and I have spent most of our visits stopping by in the afternoon and sitting at the bar people watching and enjoying the views. Their bartenders are great and some have been there for decades. I love their steamed clams and their fresh anchovies. These anchovies are palm length fish and grilled not the small fishy stuff from the cans. (which I also love) Hubby loves their Oven Roasted Garlic With Toast, Kalamata Olives, Roasted Red Peppers and Feta Cheese it's a huge serving. Oysters raw or Rockefeller paired with a salad -so good. As far as the service, my husband and I had spent hours sitting at the bar in this place and I mean hours over the past couple of decades, we have a Birdseye view of all the staff and how they're interacting with the patrons without them being aware. And I have to say I have rarely ever seen any type of unprofessional or negative interaction on the behalf of their staff there. They all work together as a team they watch out for each other and they clearly have some very good camaraderie going. Kudos to the management. read more

We stumbled on this place after walking out of Grottos after just drinks. My daughter and I absolutely CANNOT eat clam chowder without lots of pepper and most importantly LOTS of crackers. (Preferably Oyster crackers). Grottos informed us that they could give us "extra bread," to go with our $28 bread bowl, but no thanks. We had to leave. Boy are we glad we did!!! Domenico's welcomed us after a 5 minute wait (only because we wanted to sit up top and overlook the bay with a beautiful view.) We were promptly served amazing drinks, including a Mocktail for my 10 year old daughter. We got our Bread Bowls (garlic and butter grilled) before our meal came, complete with extra extra oyster crackers. :-) My wife ordered the King Salmon and said it was the best she's ever had, and it was prepared perfectly. I wanted to be somewhat simple and had the most amazing fish and chips I've ever had, but what took the cake??? ---The best Chowder myself daughter or I have ever had in our life!!! All I can really say is I'm in awe of how kind and welcoming the team was throughout our visit here. My boyfriend and I were visiting and David who was attending to us last night was incredible. My friend and I went whale watching yesterday and we actually saw the elusive, extremely rare Sperm Whale. It was amazing. So we decided to celebrate afterwards with a late lunch at the only place I ever eat on the Wharf. I tell all my guests at work to go here! Sammy and his staff are wonderful and friendly. We sat by a huge picture window on a beautiful day. Ordered a glass of wine and one of the best Bloody Mary's I've ever had. I ordered cod tacos, appreciating it was grilled and not fried. My friend got the crab salad, which had a huge pile of crab and all the salad extras. Delicious bread with seasoned butter were given to us. Yum! It was a feast! Great food, but beware of surprise charges! Mind you only 4 adults ordered food!! DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I recently ate at Domenico's on the Wharf in Monterey. The food was solid -- the halibut and cioppino were tasty and fresh -- but I was shocked when I saw the final bill. Our subtotal was about $274, but after sales tax and a "gratuity" of $49.37 automatically added, the total jumped to over $360. That's roughly $75 more than expected, before even adding a tip of my own. There was no clear notice about the automatic gratuity for our table, and it felt like it was quietly slipped in. I always tip well for good service, but customers deserve transparency -- especially when it's nearly 20% added automatically. Great view and good seafood, but the lack of honesty with pricing left a bad taste. Check your bill carefully before paying. read more
