Even in less than perfect weather, Sea Horse Charters made The Perfect Storm swells into the perfect Bachelor party fishing trip. As we ventured into rain and choppy waters, Captain Rick put us on more Tuna than we had hands to reel in. With the help of our expert crew, Cole, we did in fact catch our limit in Tuna. After expertly navigating the high seas, Captain Rick lead us to our first break in the clouds, the bright blue water, sun on our face, dream worthy type of conditions we'd all hit snooze to enjoy more of. With an almost supernatural talent, Captain Rick immediately spotted a monster lurking below us, and at the drop of a hat, Cole had a line in the water. At that point, my head went into cinematic mode as everything around me fell into slow motion. Almost instantaneously, Captain Rick called it out, Cole tossed the line, and I was at battle with an aquatic enemy who stood no chance. Through the expert guidance from Cole, like Mr Miyagi showing Daniel to wax on and wax off, and my boys cheering me on, we had that dastardly barracuda on board and in the ice chest. We continued to troll the waters for as long as we wanted, catching several other fish, but what was most memorable, were the incredible people taking care of us all day. Captain Rick and Cole of Sea Horse Charters made an epic day out of weather that most people would have dodged entirely. Our group felt safe, incredibly well tended to, and I'm still not sure if I was more sore from trying to gain my sea legs or the constant laughter while out at sea. We went on the seahorse with Captain Rick and first mate Cole. There was 3 of us girls going out for my birthday to have a good time fishing in the keys. I've never caught a fish before so I think I was good luck because we pulled in 27 mahi all at one spot. My heart was racing it was such a rush, we were going over and under each to make sure our lines were not crossed, pulling in fish left and right, fish flopping on the deck wow the most fun I've had in a long time. The guys were so nice to us girls and I can say we learned a lot from Captain Rick, him and Cole are both sweethearts. The trip was absolutely awesome!!! The sea was a bit rough and we were in a bit of a transitional period so there wasn't much to expect but the crew got it done. This is our second time chartering with Captain Rick on Seahorse Charters. The first time we met him unfortunately I was not able to join them as I was very far along in my pregnancy. It was amazing to see a familiar face when we came back to Islamorada 7 years later with our family of 6. This was an amazing experience for all of us. Our little girls were able to participate in everything, our oldest daughter was even co-captain for our way back from sea. He is extremely kid friendly! His first mate Cole was so kind and patient that he let them help catch all the baitfish and even helped catch some of our mahi mahi. Both times we had a great haul. We went out for a full day charter with Cpt Rick and his salty first mate Phil and had the best time. It was my first deep sea charter and we lucked out finding these guys. Islamorada has the best fishing in FL and Cpt Rick is the best captain around these waters. We caught Mahi, Giant Amberjacks, 4 ft Barracuda and even lucked out with a Tuna. Make sure you bring a big cooler or plan to ship all the fish home. I'd highly recommend them and plan to using them again with another group of friends soon. read more

My family has booked many fishing charters in Islamorada over the last 20 years and this experience with Captain Rick and Phil last Monday stands out above the rest. Rick understands the many factors that contribute to a successful fishing experience and acts accordingly. He and Phil work comfortably (mostly) together in a professional manner that demonstrate their expertise and enhances results. Their extensive equipment and great knowledge of the waters allowed them to quickly adapt to fish for the Sails, Wahoo, Tuna and Snapper which were our preference. Captain Rick and Jeremy are one of the most experienced team of fishermen I've ever met. The knowledge of the local area and their techniques on maximizing your chance of getting the fish are second to none! Live bait, great equipment and most obvious the true love of what they do for a living and to make your experience a really memorable time. They took us out on Thanksgiving weekend and my friend never went fishing let alone caught a fish. Jeremy talked her through catching a 35 pound sailfish and half hour later we hooked up on a 70 pound sailfish using blue runner and kite fishing, which I've never done and always wanted to. I highly recommend letting them take you out! I also like to support our military vets, as Captain Rick is retired from the Air Force and my uncle was a major in the Air Force which made it even better! For about $800 you can go out on the open waters and fish for 1/2 a day with a captain and a mate. They supply bait and rods and all necessary equipment to get you reeling that dinner onto the boat. The guys are knowledgeable in finding the right spot. Very little skill is required just got to pay attention to what they're telling you and watch as you catch one after another. Be sure to bring lunch cause it's not like you can call for Dominos in the open waters also make sure you pick a boat that's going to make you trip all the more worthwhile. Although the trip was awesome our boat was of an older model and kinda took a beating getting to the spot. Even more so heading back and if you're prone to sea sickness (like a buddy of mine) definitely look into to most comfortable boat cause there won't be any seasick pill available to save you. read more

We had once in a lifetime experience! A close friend of mine was visiting from across the globe and I wanted to make sure he had a memorable experience. Captain Rick and Phillip (Mate) delivered. We ended up with 18 Mahi from the three shoals of Mahi we encountered !! We almost landed a trophy that got away at the very last moment. I have fished in Costa Rica, Hawaii, Maryland, etc. etc. and always appreciate a crew who go the extra mile to make sure you catch fish and have a great time. Capt. Rick and Phillip are a team I appreciate. I will definitely fish with Capt. Rick again. This is an incredible experience - Calm until the Captain and Mate find the fish, then complete frenzy with 5 or 6 rods buzzing at the same time with fish on them. It is fascinating to watch Captain Rick calling out plays from the top tower while maneuvering the boat and Phillip casting the rods with precision to hook the fish. Since all of us were fishing for Mahi for the first time, Phillip had to work extra hard - quickly put bait on the hook that he pulled off a fish, cast and hook the next fish, make sure we didn't cross lines as we were reeling in the catch, gaff the catch and toss it in the cooler, etc. etc. all while 5 or 6 rods are buzzing with fish !!! This boat flies more sailfish flags than any boat in Islamorada, either is the biggest liar or the best fisherman in the world. I have fished next to him and never seen a sailfish jump behind his boat and yet he flies sailfish flags. I have fished for 40 years and only one sailfish in all those years did not jump. Lots of review rave about his guy but people who have been on his boat tell me he yelled at them and get upset. Its time someone question the greatness of this operation. He should be the winner of every sailfish tournament in the world if he is as good as his flag flying. read more
