I really love seafood. I am from Louisiana. Don't get the gumbo, traditional gumbo does not have Idaho potatoes in it. The seafood is traditional seafood with traditional seasonings and accompaniments. This place is a local favorite, but it really did not impress me nor did it discourage me. I've been here several times and always had positive experiences. I've even left a good review before. However, my experience today has been quite a disappointment. I try to have patience as I know places are currently short staffed, but they had plenty of people working tonight. Our waiter came right after we were seated and took our drink and food orders. My husband and I both ordered sweet tea. We proceeded to wait THIRTY mini without getting our drinks. The only reason we finally got them is because my husband stopped the waiter and asked if we could get our drinks. He said he forgot and went to get them. Tables that he had sat after us got their drinks and food before we had drinks. I'm sorry but that's ridiculous. The food was good but at this point, it isn't enough. I did also find a hair on my catfish so I just stopped eating that piece. After being here an hour, thirty minutes after getting our food, we sat with empty cups and never were asked if we wanted a refill. Ten minutes later he asked if we needed anything before we got our checks and my husband asked if we could get more drink. So disappointed. The manager checked on almost every table but ours multiple times. While standing at another table, she did ask if anyone had been to our table. I shook my head yes but before I could add that we still hadn't received our drinks and it had been almost thirty minutes, she said, "I was just asking." And walked away. Wanted to try this place out since seafood is one at my favorites. I'm from the coast so I was spoiled on great seafood. I had the combo shrimp and snow crab, the steamed shrimp was very good, it tasted like fresh Georgia shrimp, the mud veins were removed which is a must and they had good flavor. The seasoning is good, a but spicy for my son so I had to wipe them off after peeling them to get the seasoning off as best as possible. There were enough shrimp on the platter too. The snow crab however was lacking, they were not high quality, small sized, not good edible bodies, too mushy. And they poor melted butter over the entire platter which makes it extremely messy to open and eat the crab. Wish they would just put it on the side like most other places. The service: great people, but they don't seem very organized yet. Took 15 minutes to get our drinks and and 55 minutes from the time we sat down to get our food. Overall: I would go again but would order the shrimp, no crab. read more

I first ordered seafood gumbo and salmon. Do not order these items. The gumbo is in a small wooden 1970s steakhouse salad bowl with hardly any rice and maybe a piece of seafood, and the salmon was way over cooked. I talked to the manager and then ordered fried catfish and shrimp. These items were phenomenal. The service was slow with the meals coming out at different times. I recommend this restaurant only if you stick with the fried or broiled shrimp, fish, scallops, and crab legs. Forget the rest. read more

Hubby had the low count boil #1 and said it was good. My son and I had the pick two. I did not care for the catfish and that is one of the reason I went here. I am used to traditional southern style catfish and this looked and tastes like a wet batter. The blackened shrimp and he fried okra were good. Overall it was just okay. Being from out of town we relied on yelp. We got the shells combo #1 - had crab legs, steamed shrimp, potatoes, corn, sausage and of all things a boiled egg. They had sprinkled seasoning and garlic butter all over our platters. Besides a few hiccups getting our crab crackers, cocktail sauce and more butter - the service was good. My husband and I went for his birthday because everyone I know hyped up the restaurant. We made reservations because we knew that they were going to be packed (which they were). My husband didn't enjoy himself. Lobster tail was over cooked, crab cakes were full of bread with a little bit of crab meat as burnt at the bottom, and I swear that everything that they fry (fried shrimp, French fries, and fried pickles) were fried in the same grease because everything tasted the same. I feel really misled by all the rave reviews. A group of 5 of us came in for dinner. Half the beverages one person tried to order was told they were out. Out of Salad toppings, out of lemons. The steamed oysters came plain and shriveled up like large raisins. Another person ordered raw oysters and the waiter said they were coming out next and never brought them, yet annoyingly they were still on the bill, so we asked to get it removed. The crab legs were smothered in their fake butter and seasoned salt. I'd prefer to just crack my legs and dip in butter if I choose. It was so messy and so salty. Another entree (shrimp Alfredo) was served cold and that person never got their drink. And one person at the table had to wait 15 mins for his entree while watching us all eat. Corn on the cob is mush. 1 person ordered the catfish and liked his entree. Maybe it was an off night. But none of us will be back. read more

Delicious seafood and fun beachy atmosphere. Very popular place, so wait time can be awhile. Waitresses aren't always friendly - on the last visit, they took a long time to figure out who would seat us and who would find a high chair for us and serve our table. It took maybe 20 minutes between walking us to our table to getting the high chair and menus. We were standing up that whole time waiting on a high chair. Once they figured out who would take care of us, though, the rest of our visit was fine, and the food was very good. Sea Shells Seafood Express is a small restaurant inside a shopping center. Don't let the location fool you. The food and service is excellent. However, they do have signs up letting everyone know that on Friday and Saturday the food times are 30-45 minutes due to being busy and having a small kitchen. I had the blackened fish and shrimp. Excellent! I was thoroughly impressed with their food. As a whole, my family had fried catfish and oysters, blackened shrimp and grits, 1lb of crab legs and hot wings. Sides were the fries, corn and Mac & cheese. For an appetizer we had fried pickles and they were breaded and seasoned just right. We all were satisfied with the seasoning of the food and the how well it was cooked. It would've been 5 stars if all of our food was brought out w/in 10 mins of each other. Best place in town to get fish. They even have flounder which I don't get unless we are on vacation at the beach. But this flounder is cooked so perfect and seasoned just right it falls apart before it even gets in your mouth. The shrimp is amazing. Everything is amazing. First time, probably last time. Ordered salad as a side...picture yellow severely wilted iceberg with some pieces of tomato and cucumber on top. Ordered grouper and fries. Grouper looked good, really good. However it wasn't. I tasted the first bite, and thought tastes like the freezer. Then my tongue felt weird. I have never been treated as bad as I was in this place. It was busy when we walk in. We didn't mind the wait... but don't talk down to me I'm 66 yrs old and some child will not talk to me like I'm a DOG!!! After waiting over an hour to be seated , we waited another 15 minutes before being approached by a waitress. Our food came out before our drinks ( 20 minutes after ordering) and side salad which we had to keep asking for. We were never offered condiments for our shrimp and fish, we sat another 5 minutes waiting once finically asking two employees . When it was time to pay, we refused to wait any longer so we left our money with the receipt on the table because at this point we've waisted enough time waiting on the staff.
