We stayed at the Fairmont Pacific Rim and were looking for a car for a couple days to head up to Whistler. We wanted something nicer than a standard rental car to drive one of the most iconic roads of the world, and were so happy to stumble upon Jonas and his operation. The experience couldn't be better - the rental station was just a elevator ride down from the main lobby of the Fairmont, where we were greeted by Jonas. He made himself available by cell or text if there were any issues, and helped to coordinate an airport drop off (extra $) to catch our flight home. This is a great small operation with some very nice assets! Whenever I travel, I try to look for unique and cool local rentals. I've noticed many exotic luxury/sport cars in this area of SW Canada and PNW of the US have super impressive fleets of exotic brands (Lamborghini, Bentley, Porsche, etc) with clutch-less manuals (aka automatic manuals?). I'd probably go for just onnnne ride but, to me, manual transmissions have just been my thing since high school (I've only really driven A/T during service rentals); like it's ingrained in me. Fortunately for me, their lowest model in the fleet happens to be a manual with the sexy British flair in the Lotus Evora. I'm not a huge fan of this racy body style in general (wide and low door rails, limited visibility) but often aerodynamic quirks come with these type of cars (plus let's be honest, if I had access to a track, I'd totally take the Porsche or Ferrari). It's a great ride for what it is. It does have some good miles (kilos) on it and I think somewhere along those lines incurred the couple cosmetic damages on the inside & outside (corner pillar crack and carpet separation behind clutch pedal were 2 things). Defrosting isn't great on the car windshield, as well. I didn't mention it but a small discount would've been nice for such items; I probably would have if the same issues were on the Lambo (if I'm going to splurge on big ticket items, the car should be straight & sharp when paying full value, IMO). On a cool & clear winter day, I took it to Port Moody out east then back while stopping over at Eternal Abundance for snacks. Nice and light good ride; if anything, I'd prefer a slightly louder or better tone exhaust (haha). Shifting is tight and abrupt; 1st gear can be tough sometimes getting in but not sure if typical in exotics. I don't recall how small the staff was. I met the owner, Jonas, the first time a year ago at the office. Nice family guy; friendly and professional. Maybe has some garage helpers for the fleet maintenance. This time, he was out of town so I think his colleague/friend/competitor, Thom, filled in as a sub. He was a good friendly dude and provided great communication over the phone and via text. This time, pickup/drop-off was able to be done at my hotel. During drop-off he was happy to finish clean-up on the dirty black wheels and some residue on the door window. If you want to enjoy some relaxing (and sporty) cruising around Vancouver in style, check it out for the Lambos, Porsches, Bentleys, etc; the Lotus seems good for the sporty [mechanical] enthusiast. read more
