The galleries of New Bedford also open to the public as a forum to the people who crave the arts in such a unique city. AHA really brings out the fun side in so many people on the first Thursday of each month. There are so many spotlights on the unique vintage clothing stores, artistic displays, and performers. This is such a great thing to have in such an awesome place.

Truly, my first visit was great. It's deceptively large, and I knew I'd need to go back a second day to see the rest. It was really cool to learn the history of the industry and how it led to the cultural and creative makeup of the city of New Bedford today. I even started talking to some of my friends about it, and they started calling me the "whaling girl" . It gave whimsy. It was cute. Cute at first. Then I couldn't stop thinking about it, even when I tried, even when I wanted to. Something about the ways the museum weaved culture and time with history and science... it kept me up at night thinking. What can be measured that is unseen? What has value and who gets to decide that? The more I thought, the more I started seeing our world in an entirely new way. It was a revelation. My friends and family grew worried, as it became all that I could talk about. Over family holiday dinners. At kid's birthday parties. Even my most recent performance review, I brought it up. As you might've guessed, the review didn't go so well. I went on a journey to make sense of what was happening to me. I landed at the Seaport Museum in Mystic, CT. There, I met fellow whaling enthusiasts and a member of the prestigious Melville Society. I was relieved to see other people equally obsessed with whaling. They assured me that my feelings were normal, and encouraged me to volunteer there, as an outlet. I returned to New Bedford and did just that, and it is where I remain today! So if you go to visit, is there the risk of developing an addiction? Undoubtedly. But I think it is nevertheless worth it. Just be sure you go at your own pace and volunteer if you find yourself loosing interest in other hobbies that used to interest you. Trust, you'll have a whale of a time. Also, gift store is dope. Be sure to merch up See you at the museum!

Huge blocks of granite piled together and some powerful looking pillars in the front. However since this is New Bedford, the land of Moby Dick, several very interesting statues about whaling grace the front of the library. Actually rather stern and brutal looking but then I guess whaling was never a pleasant vocation. The inside of the library is stunning. Lovely and graceful staircases and wonderful lights and windows. This is definitely one of those libraries that is more art museum that a place for books. But along with the art and antiques this library does have books. A whole lot of books. All the usual best sellers and useful modern books but also an amazing collection of very, very old books. A very cool library that is definitely that is a lot more than just a place to go for a book. A beautiful place that is fascinating to prowl around even if you don't want to read.

It was not pierced to match my left one that I already had. After months of trying to heal it, I decided to take it out. Ruby offered to Pierce it again for free, which was very kind of her. However, due to angling issues I decided against it and asked for an ear piercing instead. Which again, she was kind enough to do. We did a conch piercing. I thought something was wrong when I noticed a butterfly post being used for my piercing. As far as I know from my knowledge of piercings those are never used except MAYBE ON LOBES. It should have been a 16g flat back. When I asked, ruby said the butterfly post was indeed 16g, and when I changed it out once it healed I could easily put a 16g in. I decided to trust her because she's the piercer and should know better than me. After I left, looking and feeling it, compared to all of my other earrings which are 16g I realized this was no different than any normal earring butterfly back you could get at Claire's. I immediately took it out. The hole itself was at best a 20g she might have pierced me with. I don't know if she did this because it was a free piercing and she didn't want to waste her good jewelry on me, but I'm hurt. I've gone to her for now four piercings. Tipped every time. Recommended her to others. I can't say I'll do the same anymore. Needless to say it's already closed and I'll be doing elsewhere for piercings. I'm disappointed. Pics attached.

Bad experience, will never return to this shop. All other shops were closed so this was our only…read moreoption for nose piercings. Upon entering the building, no one was at the desk. I wasn't aware it was cash-only and said I needed to run next door to the ATM. She told me if I wasn't back in 15 minutes, she wouldn't be able to do the piercing. My friend and I took maybe 5 minutes or so, returned to the shop, and proceeded to wait another 15-20 minutes. My piercing went fine, my friend's did not. She went to a different shop for a second opinion and they advised her to remove the jewelry from her nostril and allow it to heal as it was pierced at an incorrect angle. No mask worn this whole time by Ruby. And I didn't really appreciate her comment about me getting my nose pierced "on the gay side". Unnecessary, unprofessional, and rude.

The docent that day, Louise gave us a lovely tour of the downstairs and we got to tour the upstairs by ourselves with some very thorough pamphlets. The mansion is very well preserved. It was a rich person's home and they valued it! There were rounded walls, insane built ins, an elevator, some wonderful art. The information presented by the museum is very thoughtful and informative. It is all done very well. My favorite thing though was the bathrooms. I loved them. I find myself daydreaming. About showering in the black and white bathroom. Which is not an experience that is available to anyone... But I wish it were There is also a gorgeous rose garden on the property. Very enjoyable. We were there for about two hours but I could have stayed a bit longer. You might have to park a short distance and walk to the house but it is all worth it

Did you know that the 2 coasts are also bound by 2 Giant Forks? One is standing upright & the other one is standing upside down. You've heard that expression take a right or left at the Fork in the Road. Well they've taken that geographical driving instruction, that's also a culinary eating utensil & turned it into a wooden statue. This is one of The Secret Hidden Gems of America that most people have never been to or even heard about before. The Giant Fork in the Road is 11 foot tall & is located in Westport Massachusetts which is about an hour outside of Boston. This Funky Flatware Art Piece was built in 2010 by Tom Schmitt. The 11 Foot Tall Giant Wooden Fork resides at the intersection of River & Old Harbor Roads in Westport. It is made out of white pine & painted silver to resemble metal. Tom's wife Kate was totally behind the project as well. Now as Cool as this sculpture is, they do something Special for the Holidays here. On the 4th of July they topped the Fork with a 6 Foot High Hot Dog. On Valentine's Day it's decorated with hearts. On Christmas it wears a Santa's Hat. We Americans Love our Wacky Road Side Attractions! LOL! Now the Fork Saga doesn't end here, it continues onward. If you travel West my friend for a mere 3,000 miles, well 2,986 miles to be exact, you will stumble upon the other Fork in the Road on the West Coast. The Pasadena California Statue stands at 18 feet tall with its prongs standing downwards. So the West Coast Giant Fork is Straight Down; The East Coast Giant Fork is Straight Up. The Fork Saga doesn't end there it continues onward again. There are some other Giant Forks around the country located in San Diego, Kentucky, Oregon, New York & the largest one is in Missouri. They all have their individual stories that need to be told by someone. So if you're in the Massachusetts/ Rhode Island area check out this Fork in the Road spot. Also to make it worth your trip, there's a great ice cream shop about 15 minutes away. It's called The Eskimo King in Swansea MA. It has over 350 flavors of ice cream & has been dishing out sweat treats since 1957. They also have a special retro mascot. You can read my review & more details of that place as well. Now since I visited here in Westport word is the Fork sculpture was stolen but luckily it has been recovered in Rhode Island. The Police are investigating & The Fork Bandits are still at Large. These Giant Forks in the Road really put a Smile on People's Faces. Everybody gets out of their vehicle & takes a picture. Do you have a Fork in the Road in your state?
