He and his colleagues helped my family and I determine the best way to manage our water usage while we waited for the weather to improve so that the repair could take place. He also made sure we knew about our options to get assistance from the City of Boston to pay for the repair. Sean and his team were patient and kind through several inquiries from me about scheduling. The crew that came out to do the repair was super nice, professional, and respectful of our space and our pets. They were done in less than a full day. I am EXTREMELY disappointed in the service I have received. I have heard great things about this company from quite a few people, so I had trusted they would do what they were supposed to do. I spoke to a man named Paddie on the phone first with not much of a resolution. I have also emailed the company directly with no response back, to which I now have to resort to here. A week ago, we had this company come out to replace our water main that was very corroded. They dug in our yard, and also replaced it in our house in the basement where I reside with my boyfriend, which is a finished basement. The next morning, we discovered that our front lawn is pouring water by the sidewalk from where work was done the day prior from their company. There was no water in our apartment in the basement as of then, but about a half hour later, we had water pouring into our bedroom where the water main is located. We then called the town and they came back out to repair a pipe that was broken in my yard from the day prior. (I have photos of the pipe) The water was soaked up by a ton of towels, but it unfortunately got underneath our laminate flooring. I had gotten on the phone with a man named Paddie from the company, to which he then told me "We are not the accountable, we did not do this. I could have asked for compensation for my guys coming back out today, but I was nice enough to not do that." I then said " So you're telling me that this flood today is a pure coincidence and it has nothing to do with you guys coming out yesterday?" and he said "Yes it is." I then let him know that I have water underneath my flooring and that I'm not sure what to do. He suggested that I personally buy a dehumidifier to soak up the moisture in my bedroom under my flooring. I then replied that I do not have the money for a dehumidifier and that I shouldn't have to pay for one with this not being my fault in the first place. He then says "Okay I'll send one of my guys to Home Depot to get one for you, but I don't even have to be doing this either. But that should clear up all the moisture in your flooring." Well, we are now over a week later and there is still plenty of water underneath my flooring completely. My flooring is now lifting up and deformed as well. I am very frustrated at the treatment I have received due to something that is completely on this company. All I would like is for my flooring in my bedroom to be replaced that is due to the work that was done both days last week. My bedroom is small, and it's not even the entire flooring that is damaged. I don't think this would be much $$ the company would have to pay. Isn't that what Liability Insurance is for? Again, I am extremely disappointed in this company, and really wish they would just make this right. read more

The vision was in our minds but Sean and James executed our rough sketch of a plan and made it perfect. His pricing was transparent and honest. James drilled through ledge which was our biggest concern and dug numerous rocks out of the property. He hauled away 16 football fields of material and used the rocks to make the two rock walls you see in the aerial picture. I recently had my fourth home water line break in the last 5-years. Sean Farrell Excavation was recommended by our town as one of 4 approved contractors. I had used two of them previously, and wanted a different approach based on the continued problems and poor service I experienced previously. I called Sean's office and spoke to his office manager and within an hour Sean contacted me personally and was out at my home the next morning to assess the situation. His 40 years plus of excavation experience was on full display as we walked the property and talked about the previous repairs just treating the symptoms but not the problem. Three previous times, other contractors dug and replaced a 4'-8' section of the broken pipe. Sean and his crew came right on time and Sean spent the first hour making sure his crew understood the plan and talking with me. His crew did a terrific job locating the leak source quickly, and in 1-day they excavated and replaced nearly 40' of our water line with new pipe - where all 4 previous cracks had occurred. Sean's knowledge, approach, communication, and his team's professionalism was an immense comfort to us. In addition to exceptional residential work, his company is contracted with many towns in MA and RI for public works excavation. You are not hiring one guy and a crew - you are hiring a reputable and successful company doing both public works and private contracting. Sean and his crew completed an enormous and complex excavation under a house that has been raised to allow the foundation to be replaced and extended. This was a HUGE project with about 120 truckloads of earth removed from a tight site in Cambridge in the historic district. All of that material had to be removed from around and under a house that had been lifted on cribbing. The job required low height clearance excavators to work under the house, large excavators to dig the volumes of soil and a large hammer breaker to smash the concrete swimming pool that was on the property. With 120 truckloads to haul, the company needed to have enough trucks in it's fleet to not delay the project. Sean's company was big enough and with all the equipment to do the job. He was also highly praised after the job by the house lifting company I used. Sean's crew did a fantastic job. I managed this project and was onsite every day. Their speed, professionalism and efficiency amazed me. They ran 4 trucks doing 4-5 trips each per day and so the soil removal moved as quickly as they had proposed (timing that I was highly skeptical of!) Sean did some additional 'out of scope' work and the charges for that were more than reasonable. Sean's a good guy, busy and can be 'impatient' sometimes as a result, but that I can understand. He was not the cheapest quote BUT when I probed and prodded the other bidders to understand their assumptions, they had either underestimated the size of the excavation, or did not have the equipment and trucks to be able to get it done in the time they had proposed (e.g. you can't get 120 truckloads out in 3 weeks when you only one truck!) I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone. All of their crew were timely, professional, courteous and cleaned up after themselves. They worked diligently while they were there, didn't take smoke breaks and were flexible to my extra needs ( electrical trench dug, stumps removed ). Now mind you, those weren't in the original estimate but they did it anyways as a courtesy. That really impressed me when they could've charged me a few hundred dollars more. I'm thrilled with how the foundation turned out. They used Mofford Forms for the Form work and again, communication as with the Form crew was succinct, easy and professional. The crew arrived as scheduled fully prepared for the work. It turned out that the job required tearing out part of an interior wall that they had no way of seeing when gave the estimate. Did they charge extra for the work? No. Plus, the repair to the access door was a great improvement. After the job was done, we discovered that the town had mistakenly had them tie in my new line in the wrong spot, leaving several feet of lead pipe in place. There are a few things that contractors are notorious for- ripping you off, showing up late, and being unreachable. Sean is NONE of these. His crew arrived early in the morning and worked hard until the job was done (staying until nearly 8PM!) They wouldn't have taken breaks if it wasn't for me basically insisting on it and bringing out water. The crew was friendly and extremely respectful cleaning up after themselves so you didn't even know they were there. Again, NOT the experience I have had with other contractors. They were responsive, professional, reasonably priced (lowest of the estimates we received), and fast. I highly recommend Sean Farrell Excavation for sewer pipe replacement. After having sewage back up into my basement 3 times in the past year because of tree roots in the pipe where the 4 inch pipe meets the 6 inch pipe, I decided to have the whole pipe replaced. I contacted Sean on the recommendation of the person I hired to do a video inspection of my sewer line (side note: that was money VERY well spent and I wish I had done it earlier). Sean called me back immediately, quoted me a great price, and gave me a time frame of when his guys would be out to do the work the following week. He even said that if the drain backed up again to call him immediately even if it was in the middle of the night. Considering that I have had some horrible experiences with contractors, to have someone tell me to call anytime day or night if there is a problem is just amazing. They ended up having an opening earlier than expected, so the work was actually completed ahead of schedule. Keith and JJ came out on the scheduled day, arrived early, and had everything set up and ready to go at the designated start time. They got right to work, didn't take any breaks, and got the job finished in about 2 hours. They were polite, showed me what was being replaced and explained the repairs. I am an involved homeowner, I like to see what is being done, even if it's a huge hole in my front yard and a broken sewer pipe. I have had previous contractors be very condescending because I am a woman and look younger than my age, and talk to me as if I couldn't possibly understand the work they were doing. I was incredibly impressed with Keith and JJ, the way you treat your customers is just as important as the work you do, and they were phenomenal. I really can't say enough good things about them, I wish I could hire them for all my construction projects. And although they "promised" to disturb my front lawn as little as possible, I actually asked them to tear the whole thing up so I could reseed the grass. The main water line for our house burst, my basement flooded and the DPW ended up having to shut the water off. We were unsure of the extent of the damage, and Sean F.came to the house within 15 min of the call to assess and provide estimate/quote for work. Sean Farrell Excavating Company did an excellent job replacing our sewer line. His team, led by his very capable foreman Keith and assisted by three other workers, came when promised and finished a difficult job in one day. Because the old sewer line appeared to go under two trees, they excavated a new trench around the two trees, thus saving the trees. They had to dig under a concrete walkway and to excavate up to a depth of 9 feet, encountering some ledge along the way which had to be removed. They repaired the street and sidewalk with asphalt and loamed the grassy area in the front yard. When I told Sean on a Wednesday that our sewer had blocked up again inside a month, he advanced us on his schedule and was there the following Monday. We feel that his price was reasonable. When we informed him on the day after the excavation that a cable to our driveway lights had been accidentally broken, he promised immediately to fix the cable and did so promptly.
