I'm new to Austin so it can be challenging to find a provider you feel comfortable with, especially if it is going to involve surgery. I moved here from CA and I knew plenty of Orthopedic surgeons and had considered even flying back out there. But a good friend highly recommended Dr. John Paul Rodriguez so I decided to give it a try. I had never had a knee problem but after my first visit, and imaging, it was determined I had a meniscal tear. The pain was pretty bad but I was able to walk with some assistance. When I met with Dr. Rodriguez again, he gave me a choice of surgery or waiting it out. Initially, wanting this to go away sooner, I opted for surgery. But as we were getting into scheduling the surgery, I had decided to wait it out and see if it would get better. After a full year, my knee pain had significantly improved, but I could still feel what I could only guess was the tear. It was worse with certain activities and it was starting to limit what I normally was able to do. So, after a year of conservative treatment, I decided to revisit Dr. Rodriguez. Something I really appreciated is they didn't make me start all over from square one. We essentially picked up where I had left things. I felt I did as much as I could to give the knee a chance to heal if it was going to but realized this was basically as good as it was going to get non-surgically. Dr. Rodriguez really listened to me and ultimately we agreed to go ahead with the surgery. A special thanks goes out to Madison Gaul, Dr. Rodriguez's surgery scheduler. She was exceptionally helpful in getting me scheduled on a date and time that worked for me. She was very clear about everything I needed in order to get clearance for the surgery and very accommodating with the scheduling. The day of the surgery could not have been more uneventful. I had surgery at their surgery center and everyone involved was very nice and did everything they could to make sure I was comfortable. I blinked my eyes and the next thing I knew I was in recovery. They had already called the person who was going to give me a ride and as soon as I was a bit more alert, I was able to leave. Post-operatively I really didn't know what to expect with respect to pain. I will call it "Tylenol" or "Ibuprofen" pain because that was all I needed that first night. My leg was wrapped in a compression dressing that I needed to leave on for 10 days until my next visit. And during the ten days, I was able to bear weight and didn't even need the crutches I had and never needed anything stronger than ibuprofen. At my first post-op appointment, all was well. They removed the sutures and addressed all of my questions which were primarily about when I could resume bike riding. It has been just a little over six months and I cannot say enough good things about this practice and Dr. Rodriguez. My knee feels so great, I often forget I had surgery this year. I don't regret taking the year to see if it would get better, but I am so happy I had the surgery. I am back to riding my bike 10 - 20 miles a day and have even done some long 30 mile rides. I have not needed to even take an ibuprofen in more than four months and my knee feels as great as the uninjured knee. read more

6 months visit to evaluate my knee. Looks like I'm on the mend.... My care planned was discussed and agreed to. The elevator was not working today. A woman fell on the way up the stairs to the Texas Orthopedic office. I asked if she was ok and she said yes. I left her with two other individuals. Then I raced up the stairs and let the receptionist know. She notified the medical staff. Four men from Texas Orthopedics rushed to this woman's aid. I was super impressed how quickly the Texas Orthopedics staff acted. This is the type of prioritized care I would want if something similar happened to me. Kudos to Texas Orthopedics! read more

I guess customer service is hit or miss here. Today, I was treated coldly. I should note: this is no longer my location; I see my doctor at the Cedar Park office. But due to a scheduling issue, I was here. I'm glad I don't use this location anymore. I realize the office is busy, easily seen by the full waiting room and multiple reception windows. But if the person at the window lacks interpersonal skills or hates her job, perhaps she shouldn't be doing that function in the office. So, I am lowering my review by one star. read more

I had some persistent lower leg pain for a while but ended up in the ER with severe knee pain to the point where I couldn't walk. I followed up with the ortho and the doctor completely misunderstood the root cause of my pain after barely having 3-4 minutes with him. Ordered a useless MRI on the wrong part of my leg. I followed up with the PA who was more attentive. I then asked through the portal to fill out a questionnaire for work so I could ask for a minor accommodations not FMLA . They never responded to my messages in the portal. But somehow, they sent my form to a group that handled FMLA! It wasn't what I was asking at all and then the wrong doctor who didn't treat me at all said no and was basing it on the MRI on the wrong part of my leg. read more

New to Austin, I was having an issue with my knee and was referred to Texas Ortho by a work colleague and couldn't be happier. I was lucky to get Dr. Abdalaziz who is really such an awesome doctor. He has personally followed up with me multiple times, really listens and we have a great course of action on how to move forward. Big shout out to Bridget who is amazing and super helpful. David C. Laverty, MD is the best doctor ever for elbow surgeries I was treated well and healed fast after another doctor had totally messed the arm up and I was in a traction brace for seven months. He had it fixed and I have 100% movement and no pain in less than a two week time period. I will always recommend this doctor and his staff to anyone that wants quick relief with the knowledge to repair an injury right the first time. I could never thank him enough. read more

The MDs at the NW Austin office are OK. Some are quite 'trigger happy' regarding surgery and some of the Physician Assistants are better than others. The main issue is they lack transparency in their pricing. While they hand patients an 'estimate' prior to service that must be paid immediately, and is 're-evaluated' again upon checkout, it's never the last bill. Even after check-out, I'm invariably mailed another bill for additional payments that were not included in the estimate nor discussed with me prior to treatment. read more

My wife had an appointment and while I was there I needed some information about my sore ankle and who I needed to see. We sometimes refer to the good care we received from the medical staff, but forget the individuals you first encounter. I would like to mention two persons in particular, Amanda who greeted us with a smile directed to examining room. I found out they were over intentionally over billing my insurance company and then me personally.

I visited Texas Orthopedics due to sharp low back pain and pain in both knees. I was able to easily schedule an appointment online. The staff is very friendly. However, an MRI was ordered for my knees and I have yet to hear back from Texas Orthopedics. I was instructed to have my records from my physical therapist sent to Texas Orthopedics which I did the same day. After him being late 30 min for the appointment and talking to my mother for 10 min at the end he tells her " Dont ever come to my appointments early " first how does this affect him my mother was waiting for her specific appointment time, she never expected anything less. I am a senior citizen and have various senior ailments, and have been exposed to too many dismissive doctors over the past 72 years! That being said, I am happy to report that is not the case with Dr. Cruz. He spent ample time with me explaining everything that I needed to know regarding my spinal stenosis condition. I never had the chance to get any help because trying to schedule anything with this group is an act of faith. Their website is a disaster and doesn't allow me to schedule when it shows availability. Their customer service when you call is even worse. They don't answer calls and you have to wait for someone to call you back. I believe I tore my ACL and have been trying to find help but this place said their next availability is 5 weeks out! That's not what is shown on their website/scheduling tool. I saw Dr. Westmorland for the first time yesterday. He gave me my diagnosis with very little information. I opted for PT and the first thing he said was, "It won't work if you don't do your exercises." He asked if I had any questions about the diagnosis and treatment plan, and when I replied I did, he immediately began looking like a caged animal - he couldn't get out of the exam room fast enough. I called over 3 weeks ago to check if my referral was still good, never got a call back. Called back today to follow up and it expired during this time. I was going to book an appointment since they were booking a couple weeks out anyway, and ended up not because the front desk reception wouldn't listen to what I was trying to say. Had a great experience with Dr. Robert Foster fixing both my thumb joints. He took an unneeded tendon from each forearm and stuffed it into each thumb joint. Like magic, no more lightning bolt thumb joint pain when I closed Ziploc bags. A friend who had this done in North carolina did not have good results. Dr Foster is really adorable with a dry sense of humor. That rascal is very proud of his thumb joint technique, deservedly so. 15 years later I'm having a shoulder MRI with dr Loeb. Hopefully he can make that pain go away too. read more

While my experiences with their Docs have been generally positive, there's certainly some bait and switch going on with the techs, billing, and book-keeping folks. For my sprained ankle, I was prescribed a sturdy Aircast walking boot, and upon asking the fitting technician what the out of pocket cost would be, I was assured insurance would cover it, and I was merely signing a "receipt" for inventory purposes, which did not show pricing. Today, I returned to go over MRI results with Dr. Garcia, and upon checking in was told I had an outstanding balance of $141... "discounted" from the original $245 charge, a boot that's $77 via Amazon. 80% markup?! And of course, one must pay any outstanding amount at check-in to even attend an appointment. The staff (kindly at least) tried to find where I'd approved the orthotic boot but could not do so after nearly an hour... next will be a claim with their corporate overlords "Ortholonestar, PLLC", then finally a claim with my CC company. ER referred me to this group for an Achilles injury. Called to schedule an appointment and there scheduler was able to get us in the next day at 11am. I show up at 10:30am and go to checkin to find my appointment was actually at 10 rather than 11. The receptionist was extremely rude and they refused to see me until an appointment 2 weeks out. They even suggested just going back to the ER to get an MRI... Really frustrating, not sure what there actual doctors are like but I would suggest finding another office to work with. An injury brought me to been seen by TO. My first visit was 7/15 and at that time I submitted 1 peice of paper to be completed for work. I was seen the 18th and again had over an hr wait before being seen and reminded them of the form. Seen the 29th (another hr wait) and was encouraged to "stay on" getting the form. Dr said he would too. Office manager (OM) said she would pull it back the next morning to get it completed and signed (it was well after 530 before I left from my 345 appt). It's the 31st and I'm STILL waiting for the Dr to sign this firm. This after being told on the 15th that an MRI would be scheduled the following day. On the 17th I called repeatedly to get an MRI. Was told the order was sent over and wait 30 minutes. 2 hrs later, still no order. Called my insurance who called the office who finally got the order sent to my portal and still couldn't get an mri in a timely manner. Continued calling the office to see if they could send me somewhere else to get the MRI sooner than 8 business days and they got me in house the same day. It should not be this difficult to get 1 PC of paper completed in over 14 days when both the 3rd party and the Dr's office says it should take 72 hrs. The Dr himself is chill which is great. I would not recommend Dr. Robert Foster for hand surgery. He performed Dupuytren's Contracture surgery on my left hand (my dominant hand) in September 2022 and my hand has been badly crippled since. I have difficulty with everyday activities such as writing, keyboarding and eating. I regret having had the surgery. I understand most of these surgeries do not have this outcome, but it is 100% my outcome and I am crippled for life as a result. read more

Last April I was referred to TX Orthopedic. Meet twice with a lower back surgeon. I gave his the PA all my previous history with a pain physician. Back surgeon referred said no surgery and referred me to a TX Othro. interventional pain physician. 50 minutes before my appointment with that pain Physician, that took 48 days to get an appointment, they call and asked me to bring all my medical history with me. I told them I had given those details to the PA with their back surgeon. They cancel my appointment and told I had to go get it and bring it with me and to reschedule after I had the records in hand. That pain physician no longer practiced and it took 35 days to track my records again. I called to schedule again with the pain physician and no one knew this history and it would be over a month until she could see me. April to December I never received any treatment for my very bad back pain and Texas Orthopedics staff we total uninterested in getting me in to see the pain physician. Would recommend finding another Orthopedic / Pain practice and skip Texas Orthopedics. Disappointed and example of a big practice with little care and no concern for the patient, except getting big fees. read more

You do not find staff in medical facilities these days like I experienced here. My elderly mother fell and was referred to Dr. Cruz for additional treatment. She had been in bed and on pain meds for a week before our appointment so while at the appointment she became very sick. Elsa who works with Dr Cruz was AMAZING! The care and compassion she showed was above and beyond even bringing in crackers and juice. She is a true GEM!! We were referred to another DR and once again the staff stepped in and was so helpful. Patient coordinator Stephanie helped us navigate the next steps and would return my numerous calls everytime with helpful knowledge and went above and beyond. Caring for aging parents is such a stressful time and I have been in countless medical offices with my mother and I have never experienced the level of care and human empathy that Else and Stephanie gave us not only during our visit but through continued care! I have received multiple steroid shots here for on ongoing issue, which comes and goes. Wait times are very reasonable even thought the waiting room is often quite full. The providers and medical staff are good, the care I have received is good. Front desk staff is a bit hit or miss, each time I go in I get more paperwork to do even though nothing has changed, asked why last time and told it's just needed. The check in and check out process is a bit chaotic but overall I would recommend Texas Orthopedics. read more

This is strictly in regards to the Physical Therapy branch of this location: My actual provider for PT was great. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Whenever handles billing at this location, though, needs to be fired. At my first PT visit I decided that due to my insurance, it'd be more cost effective to pay out of pocket. I even had to sign a form from this office stating that I will be a permanent out-of-pocket patient, and they won't be running my insurance for any of my visits. About 3 weeks after my first appt, I got an email stating I had a balance due. Come to find out, they billed my insurance (after I paid out of pocket for that visit). I called them and they claimed it was a "glitch" (not possible, insurance claims don't just get lost in the ether after you visit a provider. A human has to send these out) but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that it was just a one-off mistake. 2 weeks later, I get another email that I had a balance due. They ran my insurance again. At this point I'm seriously upset because I literally signed their own agreement stating they wouldn't run my insurance. Shouldn't this be illegal? I called their billing office again and they stated it was just a mistake and they've been understaffed/had new hires helping out with billing. I had to make them completely remove my insurance info from my account so that mistake couldn't happen again. Now I'm having to go back and forth with their billing team to ensure these claims get wiped from my insurance. While I appreciate someone on the billing team removing these charges on their end and removing my insurance info from their system entirely, this is extremely worrying that this staff can't be trusted to do their jobs correctly. I don't care if there's new hires or you guys are understaffed - if patients can't trust providers to do their jobs (and be accountable for an agreement you make patients sign that says you won't bill insurance if you're a self-pay patient) then what gives? This type of incompetence is extremely worrying, and needs to be addressed with their leadership, since I'm certain I'm not the only patient this has happened to. read more

When I search Yelp and Google reviews, I always read the negative reviews first. I hope this one finds you well! Where to start? Well, we didn't even get started. I was referred by my PCP to see Dr Daniel Stewart for cellulitis in my right index finger that was a result of a cat bite nearly a month ago. The ER saw me on 6/9 and said I needed to see a hand specialist within 1 or 2 days. My PCP said great, they have appts at Texas Orthopedic available for 6/10 and 6/11. I called and was stonewalled by the incompetent office staff, who said the physician must approve of the appt before scheduling. Fair enough, the lady said I will get an appt tomorrow 6/11 and they would call back in 2 hours to schedule it. That was around 10am. When 4:30 rolled around I started getting worried because I knew they closed at 5. I called back and the same incompetent operator said Dr Stewart refused my appt because "he does not treat animal bites." I said I was bitten a month ago, I need treatment for the cellulitis infection that was a result of the bite. The operator hemmed and hawwed and did not understand what I was telling her. You would think a clinic of this size would hire and train people who are not only able to do their job, but that speak enough English to communicate effectively. I have the greatest empathy for ESL individuals but if they cannot even understand basic vocabulary, this falls on the office for hiring them and entrusting them with their patients. I called my PCP office and requested they call them to clear up the confusion, that I was not seeking treatment for a cat bite but for the resulting infection. This morning my PCP office called me and said they attempted to reason with Texas Orthopedics but all of their doctors are now refusing to see me. Here is the kicker, when you go to their website and read Dr Stewart's profile, there listed in black and white for everyone to see, is that he treats "bite injuries." So not only were they unable to comprehend that I do NOT need treatment for the bite itself, now they are LIARS because their own website says they do, in fact, treat bite injuries. I'm avoiding this practice like the plague and I will tell everyone I know. I happen to be an athlete who trains martial arts, which comes with injuries. I am telling EVERYONE at my dojo to tell all their friends and family how awful this practice is. I'm sure the doctors are okay, but why bother if the staff can't even tie their velcro shoes? read more

I tried setting up an appointment for a orthopedic to see my father who has back pain. The appointment scheduler on the phone sounded like she did not want to be there and was very hard to deal with. At many points she was rude and cut me off. There was no assistance given when asked about consultation charges. I am skeptical about the care we would receive if this was the front face of the organization. I later called another orthopedic in the area and found their receptionist to be a lot more helpful.
