FANTASTIC experience with Dr. Hedley. There was a small problem with the staff accidentally overbooking Dr. Hedley during the hour my appointment was scheduled for- so I ended up waiting for about 20 minutes. But as soon as Dr. Hedley and her assistant found out that I needed to scramble to a meeting right after my appointment, they cared enough to work quickly but carefully to make sure that I made it to my meeting on time. Dr. Hedley has some of the best bedside manners I've seen in a doctor. She was gentle yet assertive in her demeanor and showed that she cared about her patients. Her responses to my questions demonstrated her knowledge and experience. Even though she made sure she examined me as soon as possible after my basic information and blood pressure were taken, she was still thorough with the actual examination. I can understand why some yelpers have complained about her staff. Personally, I liked her staff- although they were initially a little brusk (very typical for the city), as soon as we started talking a bit more at length, I found them to be quite sweet. I'm so happy I found Dr. Hedley and her office- I will definitely be coming back. read more

Dr. Henry is a knowledgeable and friendly doctor. It means a lot that I do not mind him staring at my lady bits in fluorescent lighting--mostly because he seems very nice and talks a lot! Most importantly, he did not appear to consult my chart and then begin to make judgments about my behavior, overall health, how long it would be before i get the baby bug, etc. On the other hand, the front desk women are kind of miserable. Why the attitude, ladies? Just book my appointments, answer the phone(!), and for the love of God, don't tell me that "no news is good news" when we're talking about the health of my internal organs. I cannot see them or the test results myself, so really--are you serious? That's not responsible in the least. There is potential for this rating to increase if he were to hire some nicer front-desk people. SHEESH. read more

The staff is RUDE on the phone, not understanding patient's concern and they'll put you on hold and come back only to berate you for being human. Wait, what? One angry review? You've got to be kidding me. Dr. Henry is pretty much the greatest. Everyone I've ever spoken to in the waiting room agrees with me... and he was recommended by a friend. Now, no lies. The office assistants could stand to be a little more customer oriented. But come in and be nice to them, be a little patient, and y'know what? They're generally nice people. Just perhaps not forthcoming. If they say you have a bill due? Cool. Agree. Either pay it, or try to work on a schedule to do so. I'm not sure why anyone would feel the need to argue the point. But also... this review isn't about the office workers. Dr. Henry himself is a gem. If you are uncomfortable with him being the only one in the room, say so. The nurse does triage, then he comes to do the actual exam. He and I spend the whole time laughing and cracking jokes... it's more like a social occasion with a gynecological exam thrown in. I look forward to seeing him. One time, though, I did ask him -- what brings him to gynecology? He smiled a broad smile, and said simply, "I really like babies." The second layer was that most of the time, he is seeing women who are healthy, and having their yearly checkups. They're as eager to be done and have a good day as he is to make sure it happens. That allows him more time to focus on women who need more time. Which makes a LOT of sense. He has been there for me during a few health scares, always talked me down from my anxieties, and is an absolute delight. I think anyone out there should be honored to have him as a doctor. That is, until his significant other makes their fortune, and they go buy an island and drink cocktails all day. So get him while you can. ;) read more

It's strange to proclaim love for my "lady doctor". Who really enjoys getting poked and prodded in all the wrong places at regular intervals throughout the year? If you do, we have other doctors that can help you with that interesting issue. The truth is, to actually enjoy the good-times in life, we simply must "do what we have to do" in order to ensure a healthy well being and peace of mind. While it's not always pretty, the outcome of preventative screenings and procedures are typically well worth the investment. Dr. Hedley was quite a great "find" among the many OBGYNs in the New York area. She is knowledgeable, friendly, takes your concerns seriously, and makes time for her patients (and spouses should the occasion arise!!). Her office is conveniently located just west of Grand Central Station, comfortable, and I feel like the her front desk staff is just fine. Despite the negative reviews for the staff I've read, I think I have a good sense as to why they forego the niceties, ask and answer questions directly, and have to put callers on hold. Not only are they responsible for scheduling appointments, taking caller's questions, and dealing with insurance issues. They also must process all these things (and then some) for numerous present patients. Moreover, there are only about 2-3 of them on staff at any given point. The good news is that the office isn't "perfect". Therefore, another patient's impatience is your gain! If you can weather the front desk to get to see Dr. Hedley, I promise you will come out a winner. A little bit of brown-nosing will go a long way with the staff if you want to become a new patient or squeeze into an earlier appointment. You attract bees with flowers; not yelling, swatting, and such. The only reason that I withheld one star is because Dr. Hedley only delivers babies at St. Luke-Roosevelt hospital. Based on research and reviews I've done on their maternity facility, I will not be comfortable giving birth there. Additionally, Dr. Hedley, Henry, and Christopher do not deal with the hoity-toity birthing center if that's they style in which you would like to bring life into this world; while you probably could care less like me, it's something noteworthy if that is your decision. I was also scared-off because the hospital seems to favor c-sections a bit too much for my comfort and the nurses are said to have little patience for pregnant women. Regardless, if Dr. Hedley is your only option for giving birth, try not to look too far into my research on St. Lukes-Roosevelt. It's the doctor that counts the most, and you'd be in good hands with her or either of her male counterpart practitioners (Christopher or Henry). To be very clear, my main reason for not using Dr. Hedley for giving birth someday is due to the fact that I will need to be observed by a high-risk doctor due to my God-given abnormalities. While it is not always necessary to have a high-risk doctor should you have similar procreation limitations, it's a precaution that I've determined is worth the investment. Therefore, I will be giving birth at Mt. Sinai where I've met with a perfect high risk practice that takes care of all my needs and screenings on-site. But Dr. Hedley is still my regular appointment physician for as long as I'm in New York. I think she's fabulous and hope you can book her if possible. Good Luck! read more

Thank you Yelp for helping me find Dr. Shawna Hedley!!. I found Dr. Hedley via Yelp and decided to choose her as my doctor due to her positive reviews. After visiting the office, I now understand why everyone was so positive about their experience with Dr. Hedley. She is amazing! I didn't encounter any of the issues the other reviewers mentioned about the staff. The staff was very nice and efficient. The office was generally peaceful, quiet and clean. Appointment was held on time (with 10-15 minute delay which I think is normal in a doctor's office). Dr. Hedley listened to all my concerns and was very thorough in her examination as well as when she was answering my specific questions. As one of the other reviewers mentioned, going to an OBGYN is not the most entertaining adventure and yet Dr. Hedley makes the experience as pleasant and comfortable as it can ever be. She is extremely patient, helpful and informative in her answers. I would strongly recommend Dr. Hedley to anyone who is looking for an attentive and knowledgeable doctor who will adress all concerns and follow up on any items that need to be followed up on. read more

The only reason this office does not get 5 stars is the office staff. I've been going here a little over a year now and could not be happier with Dr. Henry. I'm not pregnant, however if I ever do get pregnant, I 100% want him as my doctor. He's personable, knowledgeable, and makes me feel as comfortable as he can. There was a moment when Dr. Henry was unreachable for a few days. I had some questions about my upcoming procedure, and he was out of town. Dr. Christopher returned my call, and he too was great. Dr. Henry even called again to chat a few days afterwards. Honestly, I can't be more happier with my gyno, I've recommended him to all my friends. The nurse too I always see is great, and just as comforting as Dr. Henry. I basically love my doctor and have said that numerous times to anyone that will listen. On the other hand...the staff is TERRIBLE. They're nonchalant and often rude. Several occasions I've walked in, not knowing whom to talk to, if I should just sign a sheet, who knows. It's only after you stare one of them down long enough that they may ask if you need help. Otherwise, its up to you to let them know. I won't even get into the phone conversations with them. I feel like I'm inconveniencing them...to do their JOB. And I'm done...that's as much of this review the staff deserves. Hire some new staff. Your patients will thank you. (On a side note: the couple of times I've talked to Dr. Henry - he actually booked two of my appointments, not the yearly. I was so happy to not be transferred back to the front desk, and I respect and appreciate him for taking the time with his patients one-on-one). read more

Ladies, These doctors (all of them) are really kind, knowledgeable and helpful. I see Dr. Henry as my OB and he has been exceptional. I've seen the other docs as a part of the rotation they suggest during pregnancy. I have to say, that aside.... The office staff were fine. There was no drama, no rudeness, nothing. But maybe that's because I have always been polite and if Dr. Henry was not free I made an appointment with someone else, I am a bit more flexible I guess. Be positive, be calm and relax. The office staff must deal with 20 pregnant women everyday and not all of them are rays of sunshine. I've been going to Dr. Hedley for a little over 10 years now. She listens when I have concerns, never rushes me and is friendly. I have also seen Drs. Henry and Christopher - also really nice. When I first started at the practice, I rarely saw anyone but Dr. Hedley but when I was pregnant 4 years ago, my husband and I made it a point to see the other doctors whenever we could since there was no way to know who would be on call when delivery occured. I wound up seeing all three during my long labor process and had a cesarean with Dr. Christopher (Dr. Hedley later remarked that it was perfect timing for me since she couldn't have made such a small incision if she had delivered my son - lol.) I have referred a number of friends to the practice over the years and everyone has reported back how nice they are. Yes, a few years ago, there were some front desk changes, but it must have just been a fluke for the poster that had a bad experience b/c the present front desk people have been there for a while now. As with any doctors office, the person on the phone has been told to ask for certain details in order to know whether an appt/message needs to be taken care of right away or can wait a bit. On a side note, my husband and I had just moved before the baby arrived and hadn't yet found a pediatrician in our new neighborhood. Unbeknownst to us, the doctors remembered us saying this. They called a pediatrician one of their siblings loves and uses for their kids and asked if they could tend to our baby at the hospital. 4 years later, we still use that pediatrician even though they aren't close to home. There is a reason this practice has been voted one of the top in the NYC area. read more

I visited Shawna Hedley for my annual exam last week. I was super anxious because I switched providers and I only had heard about Dr. Hedley via Yelp. I wasn't really sure what to expect. I have to say that Shawna Hedley is absolutely amazing. Her bedside manner is phenomenal, and I really mean that. With my old doctor, the annual exam was mildly unpleasant because it felt awkward. With Dr. Hedley, I honestly didn't even realize that the annual exam was over until she said, "You're all set!" She kept me feeling at ease and really comfortable during the exam by talking about bad soap operas and college. I didn't feel the least bit nervous or worried after I had met her for the first time! I had no issues with her office staff, actually. There was a small hiccup with scheduling but the office staff took the initiative and booked me for the next available time slot and called me to make sure that I was aware of the scheduling change. Mistakes happen, so I was okay with it. In summary, Shawna Hedley is awesome and she made the entire process comfortable and easy. She is thorough, and I feel like she actually CARED about me. read more

She is the best. She is very quick and listens to your concerns while providing noteworthy information. I enjoyed my visit with her and I will definitely be going back to her for any other services needed. She is super nice and thorough with her work. Although there was a nurse or whatever she was there that got a little testy with me, when she asked me the last date of my annual, I told her february but forgot to mention what year. I just assumed she would know it was last year 2010, because you only get an annual once a year. I guess that was common sense to me but not to her. She was nice nevertheless afterwards, just kinda turned me off with her abrasive-ness at that moment. I have been going to Dr. Headley on & off for years, I called a few days ago to make an appointment & was told by the very RUDE receptionist that I will need to leave a credit card number or pay $200.00 at the time of my visit. I told her that I have insurance, the receptionist stated that it doesn't matter & when I began to pepper her with questions she became angry with me because she could not answer them and placed me on hold to speak to someone that never came on the phone. All the doctors are in such a rush that they tell you nothing or inform you important info that is critical to a pregnant person. May be they are only suited for doing simple Pap smear and that's all. There are three doctors in practice at this office: Dr. Hedley, Dr. Christopher and Dr. Henry. Dr. Henry was our doctor throughout the majority of our pregnancy (we recently moved to Chicago). He was professional, friendly and provided a great sense of ease with every appointment. While the doctors in this practice seem to be top notch (performing ultrasounds at EVERY appointment a great plus!), the office and billing staff is SO disorganized and unprofessional that it completely ruined our experience. Anyone that has gone through a pregnancy understands how much testing, lab work and appointments are needed throughout the nine months. This staff not only used our old insurance info (after many requests to have it changed) with in office services and labs, but were EXTREMELY rude to my husband and I each time we called. We felt like we were bothering them with our questions, and that was WHEN they answered the phone or returned our calls. We are still dealing with lab bills from six months ago, which we learned after the fact are out of network, even though the office was aware of our insurance coverage. Apparently they use who they want and do not inform patients that lab work will be an out of pocket cost. If you choose to brave the frustration and rude behavior of the front desk in order to get top notch care, we highly recommend researching each and every service to ensure that it's covered. We also encourage each patient to talk to their doctors, we did, however there didn't seem to be any change. Maybe if enough patients complain, they will finally take action. Good luck! read more

He is very funny and outgoing and yet has a wonderful bedside manner if/when things turn serious.He is the only reason I still come here. The staff is just awful. Not only unfriendly, but insensitive to the situations/needs of the patients. Equally terrible over the phone. If they even return your call. I have called on multiple occasions and have a hard time getting anyone to return a phone call. I have been at this office for a few years and they have remained consistently unprofessional. Dr. Hedley is a GREAT gyn. Like many gyns in NYC, it is hard to get an appointment. However, she is completely worth the wait. Like the previous reviewer, Dr. Hedley canceled two appointments on me because she had to deliver a baby. However, the rescheduled appointments were soon after (1 week) so it wasn't a huge deal. Dr. Hedley has a very calming personality and seemed very knowledgeable. I had questions about the HPV vaccine and she was very thorough answering them. More importantly, she didn't push the vaccine on me. She gave me the positives and the negatives and let me make my own decision. That sort of doctoring is priceless. read more

I've been going to see Dr. Sean O'Henry for the last 5 years. I would love to give this place 5 stars because of how amazing Dr. O'Henry is, but I can't because I still feel the the staff is somewhat rude (but probably better than their previous staff). It sounds like the other women have a great experience with them, but maybe it's because they're pregnant and tend to see these women more often and get to know them better? I've never been pregnant so I only come here once a year for my yearly checkup. I've never been greeted when I show up. And I've stood at the reception staring into space only to find out that they were done with my paperwork and I can take a seat. And there's just something about their tone of voice that is just rude. Do note that they are usually running at least 10 - 20 minutes late, but you still better show up on time for your appointment because you only get a 15 minutes grace period. Dr. O'Henry is amazing, gentle, and efficient. While he takes his time to talk to you and get all the appropriate information, he does it at a quick pace. But this is what I love about Dr. O'Henry. Friendly and quick. I'm sure if you ever feel uncomfortable about this you can let him know. I've never had problems with payment and insurance except once and it was when I was getting my HPV shots and the old manager messed up by filing the wrong code. Although I had to process everything myself, they provided me with all the documents that I needed. (It was annoying, but at that point I realized both the manager office and my insurance people were idiots and didn't have the time and care to really review my work so I was anal enough to just do it myself.) Do I recommend this place? DEFINITELY. But remember to make your appointments ahead of time. read more

I recently started seeing Dr. Shawna Hedley as an OB patient. She is very kind, patient, and took the time to answer all of my questions. However, I've had 3 appointments with her and have only seen her once! Two times, she canceled on me because she was at a delivery. Which is good to know that she'll stay with her patients through their deliveries, but not helpful to those of us who were hoping to see her. I've see Dr. Christopher on those two occasions. He's very nice and answers all my questions, although he always seems to be in a rush. Her staff leaves a lot to be desired. They can be rude or just unhelpful. And they require a credit card on file and I've heard that they've run charges on people's cards without their knowledge or consent. I had the billing person call me one time sounding panicked, and she tried to hit me up for payment at my next appointment - when she hadn't even sent me the bill yet! In summary, I think Dr. Hedley is great but I would actually like to see her at some of my appointments, and I wish she had a better staff. read more

This review is not entirely for Dr Henry, who my husband and I loved during my pregnancy and prior to. Even with complications during delivery, he delivered my daughter safely and I'll be forever grateful. I absolutely love his front desk staff and nurses who were kind and accommodating the whole way through. HOWEVER, as noted in some other reviews, his office manager is an actual nightmare. I truly hope this woman no longer works there or continues to torture pregnant women anywhere. Despite my being in the office monthly or even bi-weekly the duration of my pregnancy, she did not introduce herself to me until I was a few weeks from my due date and then proceeded to berate me for any number of things. I thought I was going to go into labor early from the stress this evil human being caused me. Sad to see Dr. Henry no longer practicing, but I am afraid the office manager still lurks in the office. read more

I've been through four pregnancies now -- three that sadly failed, and one that produced a perfect, healthy little boy. I've been through physical and emotional ups and downs, and I'm so grateful to have had Dr. Henry coaching me through it all. He is compassionate and kind with a perfect blend of professionalism and good humor. I trust him implicitly and refuse to switch practitioners even though his office moved 45 minutes out of the way for me. And for the negative reviews about his office staff, I think his office assistant is lovely. Not the most talkative, but she is sweet and always addresses questions and concerns quickly. And she's been with the doctor for a while, so she is also knowledgeable. Dr. Henry has been a godsend for me and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him to every woman I know. read more

Dr. Henry is pretty cool - he knows what he is doing and his office is more efficient than most GYNs. I've been going here for a few years... My issue is he goes really fast while he's chatting about random stuff and while he's doing the exam (i.e. you're naked and your feet are in the air) he asks for consent for a test that it might have better to think about before your legs were in the air. And you say yes, and then it all of a sudden you have a charge for a well visit that should have been free. I do like that he goes fast but it's got its drawbacks. And if I had anything wrong with me, it wouldn't be great to have someone bouncing between three rooms so fast. Bottom line: I have gone to him for years and will probably continue to, since he takes my insurance, I like him and I only see him for well visits and I can get in and out quick. read more

Dr. Henry is smart, kind, caring, funny, and not an alarmist, which I appreciate very much. Being pregnant is stressful enough, especially after a previous 2nd trimester loss. He was very compassionate and caring during that sad time and very positive and supportive in my subsequent pregnancy which led to a healthy baby boy (even if he did come too early). I find Dr. Henry's bedside manner very calming and I always feel like I'm in the best hands under his care. I ended up with Dr. Henry after the doctor I had been seeing for many years suddenly left the practice, but I could not be more happy that I ended up with him! read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Sean O. Henry since 2006, and I think he is an excellent Physician. He is very professional, and he genuinely takes care and pride in his work. I do have to admit that his front desk is rude. The nurses are wonderful and kind, but the front desk staff seems to be a bit nasty. This is not a perfect world, I worry more about the professional that is seeing me than the support staff that works in his practice, so I put up with them, and I definitely don't take them personally. I'm currently pregnant with my first child and I couldn't be happier to be in the care of this practice. I primarily see Dr. Hedley, but I've also seen both Dr. Christopher and Dr. Henry on occasion and would feel comfortable with any of the three delivering my baby. Over the course of the pregnancy, I've had a few scares (bleeding, cramping, etc) and the doctors have always called me back IMMEDIATELY and have always been able to fit me in and get me checked out right away. Dr. Hedley is so warm and friendly. I never feel like I'm just another patient, she never rushes me and she's great about explaining things. A sonogram is provided every single visit (if you want it) and the offices are clean. I also love the nurses--Lisa and Denae. Before going to my first appointment, I had read some of the negative reviews about the front desk staff. It's true that they're not tripping over themselves to greet you but I've found that if you're nice to them, they're nice right back. Also, every time I've called because of a scare during business hours, they've been comforting and quick to get the doctor my message. As a first time mom, I was really anxious to find a warm practice full of doctors who care. I feel so lucky that I have and cannot recommend them enough. read more

This office seriously needs to learn personableness and be helpful. A lot of the insurance-clearings, prescriptions and procedures women have to deal with concerning their sexual health are delicate matters to speak "aloud" about and are difficult processes--don't expect this office to help you (maybe they offer more assistance if you are going there for prenatal care, but that would only show a service bias/inequality). The declassé Central-American-looking front desk lady in the front has a total chicken-headed arrogance and she is the WORST of them; the other staff members are not so bad in personality, but not much better in helping you. The staff does not even give you the courtesy to call you with your test results, even if they are normal--I've never been to a clinic/office that leaves you in the dark as remotely as bad as this office. As for the doctors, I saw Dr. Sean Henry, who is a nice guy, but speeds through his appointments as if he is trying to beat the World's Record for Shortest GYN Appointment. I also spoke with Dr. Hedley informally regarding an insurance/prescription matter that was mishandled by their office, and she had the audacity to tell me my matter wasn't important because it wasn't life or death--I am sorry, it is still my health. I expect a doctor's office to want to maintain you as a patient for the span of your life--not just the relatively short period of pregnancy (I am a mother myself) AND want to create a good referral base for their practice. Suffice to say from what I experienced, I will not return to this office and adamantly NOT recommend them here on yelp and elsewhere where this office can be rated. read more

He is super funny and has a laid back approach which helped put me at ease but knows when to be serious. The girls in the office are great. Dr. Hedley has suddenly moved to California. If you are pregnant the office will not notify you of this until you go in for your monthly appointment. I found this out yesterday when I went in for my monthly appointment. It's pretty stressful to find out in the middle of your pregnancy that your doctor is gone and the horrible front desk staff did nothing to ease the blow. I loved Dr. Hedley, she is a great doctor. However, the staff at this office is atrocious. They are rude, disrespectful and argumentative. They behave as though they are adversaries, not allies of the patients. Don't even bother trying to call with a question about your health, you will be put on hold for 10 + minutes and then possibly hung up on, as happened to me on multiple occasions. Find yourself a new ob-gyn. Dr. Hedley is gone, save yourself from having to deal with these awful women. read more

Really rude staff, I called to make an appointment and felt they were not interested at all. Try to be nicer to people, its free!

I have been a patient of Dr Henry for 12 years and he delivered two of my children. He is kind, patient, approachable, wise and truly cares about his patients. He is wonderful and I really can't say enough good things about him. I feel so lucky to have him as my doctor. read more

I am giving Dr. Hedley 5 stars because she deserves it. I have been seeing her for years and she's intelligent, careful and compassionate. Unfortunately the staff is DEPLORABLE. I have heard the N word twice from the staff. I have been walked into the examination room by somone that was so rude and nasty that I actually had to ask them if I had offended them in some way because I couldn't believe I was being treated so poorly! I approached the Dr. about it and it was basically brushed off because apparently I am the only one who has complained about this person. So, if you have a problem with the staff...PLEASE SAY SOMETHING. Dr. Hedley is a great Dr. and I think she deserves a better support staff. read more
