Sure, their job is to sell, but the goal should be customer retention. I won't be going back, as the last item I bought was really too big for me, and I didn't realize it until after I'd taken the tags off. I don't mind having the odd alteration done, but since that was the fourth time in two years I've been horribly disappointed after the fact, I'll stick to shopping in my favourite stores in Victoria and Vancouver from now on, where the staff know me and always steer me in the right direction.

They have an amazing policy for holding items. They impressed me anyways because I asked them to hold shoes that were on sale. Normally, stores will give you grief about such a request. I was looking for a local dyer/spinner/artisan for Souvenir Yarn, and the staff member was able to point me in the direction of one. She actually didn't even come out from behind the desk, which in a small store where I was the only customer, actually was fine. If there had been more than just me in the store, this would have felt dismissive. The organization was a bit haphazard in my opinion; the dyer I was looking at was placed at various places around the store, I think depending on weight or perhaps fibre type. I'm not sure. But in the end I found something I liked, the staff member was helpful recommending patterns and telling me about the sample garments I was admiring. Then we had a funny chat about their logo/mascot. They had a name contest and I think the character was eventually named Gordon "Ram"sey.

The volunteer staff is friendly - if you're a polite and respectful shopper. I'd avoid the Saturdays where they sell the Window Items. People get pushy in the line, are rather creepy and kind of manipulative. I had to do it for a friend one day - never again LOL! Other than that - GREAT place to find excellent stuff.
