In short, AVOID,AVOID, AVOID!!!!! INSTALLERS DAMAGED MY…read morePROPERTY and the owner took over 5 months to attempt to issue me a refund for a low-profile microwave that installers were not able to install. In August of 2025, my wife and I bought several kitchen appliances from the now defunct Morehead City location. Once we finished our kitchen renovations, we scheduled delivery. We found out the staff that sold us the appliances left. We were given a contact and ended up getting our appliances delivered in October of 2025. Right off the bat, I realized the installers were inexperienced and lacked attention to detail. They dropped the microwave right on my brand new quartz countertop (thankfully just left a smudge that wiped off), drug the dishwasher on my flooring, without having any regard for my home. The kicker is that they drug the refrigerator up my deck using a dolly, smacking each step one at a time. Lastly, as they maneuvered the fridge inside, they drug/scraped my newly built deck by dragging the dolly sideways with the fridge, damaging several portions of composite decking. They were not able to install the low-profile above the range microwave and they told me they would find another unit that would fit... I was told explicitly they would call me the following business day. They never called, but rather someone from the store/one of the installers called me almost a week later to ask "how the installation went".... Um hello? Either way I made them aware of how badly the installation went and how I was not called with a replacement microwave. At this point my wife & I got in touch with a manager (also now no longer with The Appliances Superstore). The manager had no idea about what took place and assured us everything would be taken care of. Specifically, he attempted to make arrangements to meet us at the property. However, it never happened due to scheduling issues (we live full-time in central VA). As of now , March 2026. I AM STILL WAITING ON A REFUND!. And the owner refuses to help me at all with any damage done to my property. The kicker for me is that the owner is an Instructor at the ECU School of Business and has deplorable communication & business practices. So if you are needing appliances in the Eastern NC area, be sure to get your appliances from Lowe's or Home Depot instead.

I found the model that I was looking for on display at Kees. When I requested a price, they quoted me a price of $2650. They told me that the MSRP was $3100 and that I was getting a discount of almost $500. Well, I had researched the price of this microwave before looking at local appliance stores. The MSRP was $2599 on the Jenn-Air website. Of course, since it was a discontinued model, it was no longer available. The floor model at Kees had a price tag of $2599 when I looked at it. When I called today for a price, they gave me the above quote of $2650. So Kees wanted $50 more than the MSRP on a discontinued floor model microwave. I would be very wary of making any purchases from this store. I find their business practice to be unethical.

While the company itself does not, the salesman I met, Aaron, did such work on the side. He came to my house the next day, explained everything that happens with your air dryer vent and what the cleaning process entailed. Prompt, professional and courteous. Would definitely use Kees Appliance again.

The advice and guidance we received was excellent, and the depth of knowledge Mike Ovenden brought to the decision making was very impressive. Since then we have had a problem with only one appliance, made by Electrolux, which self-destructed on its first clean. Electrolux was completely uncooperative. It turns out the problem is a familiar one (check online) and so common that there are *no replacement parts* available for the problem, period. Mike had no more success than we did. But Mike and The Appliance Center DID work hard to make things right for us, which involved replacing the oven with one made by another manufacturer, at a hugely discounted price. We are glad to be rid of Electrolux and so very pleased to be working with the Appliance Center and Mike Ovenden.

UPDATE TO ORIGINAL REVIEW: I posted the below two months ago -- and would like to update it based…read moreon a response by the long-time owner of the Appliance Center, Mr. Stewart, who appears to be trying to hand over the business to others. A few weeks ago, Mr. Stewart left a very nice message on my voicemail apologizing for what we went through after only now having learned about it (perhaps from this review). He immediately offered to pick up the old hood and refund the money we spent on it. I have since had another very nice conversation with him, and he has picked up the hood. It is clear that this is not how he wants his business to run. We are building a custom home and were instructed by our contractor to work with The Appliance Center to get all appliances. So we did -- and deeply regret it. This is not true of most of the vendors we worked with - we had many very positive experiences. But The Appliance Center stands out as the worst. The most illustrative of our negative experience was around a kitchen island hood -- we made very clear from the beginning that we needed a hood that would accommodate my height (6'2") and were assured the hood they recommended would be no problem. When installed, sharp edges were exactly at eye level -- and we were told it could not be moved higher. I asked whether they would take it back and swap it out for one that works and was told they would not -- we were now stuck paying thousands of dollars for a hood we could not use. No apology, no sense of accountability and no effort to make it right. They then proposed 4 other hoods I could buy from them. At this point I was appropriately skeptical - and so I learned how to read the spec sheets. It turns out that each of the 4 hoods they now proposed would have created exactly the same problem. When I pointed this out, they agreed and admitted they had misread the spec sheets (just as they had with the first hood) and, for the first time, used the word "apologize". But had I just ordered one of their replacements, I am sure they would have made me pay for that one too. I was then literally left to fend for myself and find a hood that would work - they seemed uninterested in helping further, all this after close to $50,000 of payments for everything we had ordered from them for a fairly large house. I would recommend staying clear of people who conduct business this way. (Before posting this review, I shared it with Michael, the Appliance Center person we worked with, and asked if what I describe was accurate. He had no corrections to make - and nothing to add.)

One side of the store is filled with amazing cooking gadgets and the other side has a kitchen set up for cooking. If you're looking for a fun housewarming gift, check out the cooking tools side. The fruit cook off event was held in the kitchen side. The owners donated the space to a National MS Society MS Challenge Walk team so they could host the cook off from 11 AM - 2 PM. There were contestants who whipped up delicious dishes: appetizers, entrees, and deserts. The dishes could be sampled for a $2 fee (donated to charity) and boy were they delicious. The contestants were judged by a team of judges including Eurostoves staff. There were also 2 wine shops present at the event that had wine sampling, and lots of raffles with prizes from local businesses. I was very impressed by the friendliness of the staff and the fact that they not only allowed the charity fundraiser to be held there, but helped out as well.

I placed my order in Aug and was promised delivery in 6-8 weeks. It has now been 10 weeks and, after chasing down a rep from AJ Madison, now I'm told it will be another 3-4 weeks before they will know an estimated ship date, not a guaranteed date. I called Trevor, out of shear frustration, and he instantly got to work finding my $7000 range. He even talked me through the shipment process. He helped, not for any profit, but because he cares about people. If I could do it all over again I would definitely bypass the AJ Madison headache and go with a true professional. BEWARE of AJ Madison they have some of the worst reviews on line. They are not worth the trouble. If your order actually arrives, some orders never make it!, and it is damaged you are stuck with it and have to go through the nightmare of AJ Madison customer service and hopefully they will send someone to repair it. Some of these reviews will point out that they were offered only $50 in compensation for selling broken appliances, not a replacement or a refund but only $50! https://m.yelp.com/biz/aj-madison-appliance-showroom-brooklyn Don't make my mistake, USE EUROSTOVES from the beginning!
