I ended up picking out @10 total and my wife loved everything. 3 pieces ran too big and my wife had no issues swapping them for a smaller size with no issues and loved her experience with Daria also. Full of fun spring styles that you just can't get at a fast fashion mall type of place. You can tell so much thought, time and passion goes into the design and pieces picked. Fast forward to now that I live in the area again, and I have curated a cute collection of jewelry as well as added to my wardrobe a bit. The prices are so fair and it's just a highlight to my day when I find a gem from here! I've also had the chance to meet and work with the owner Daria. I loved the place that much that I reached out to see if I could help in any capacity. The owner is sweet and she really puts so much effort into her space and products, and it shows when loyal customers come in time and again. So there's both good and bad here…read more The good is the selection is massive. Is floor to ceiling of collectibles. The bad is the place is a disaster. Nothing is organized, a lot of stuff is broken and all over the floor so you trip over it. The owner checks eBay daily and bases his prices off that, so nothing I is the same price two days in a row unless it's actually been tagged and he rips people off if you're not careful. I've been to The House of Fun twice since they relocated to this much larger store in Barrington…read more Although they have a wide assortment of collectible toys, cards, video games, and comics, it can be a "house of overwhelming fun" to some. This store is jam-packed with inventory stacked from floor to ceiling so watch your step! It's not uncommon to see piles of items strewn across the floor and walkways because they have already reached the storage limit on the walls and shelves in this newer facility. I primarily come here for the comics, of which they have both a new release wall in the front of the store and a collection of back issue bins in the back of the store. And so this place can be like a treasure hunt looking for that key issue or rare gem, making it a fun place to shop. But what is not fun (and somewhat annoying) is that there are no prices on most items. It was explained to me that since there are millions upon millions of things in the store, there is no way the employees can keep up with the impossible task of pricing everything. So, instead, they wait until someone is interested in an item and inquires about the price. Then the employee checks with the owner, who presumably looks up the current market value on the item and then puts a tiny white price sticker on it. But be forewarned--just because you may see an item with an attractive price sticker already doesn't mean that's the actual House of Fun price. House of Fun only uses one specific price sticker (a small white rectangle in a particular font), and any other price tags that may be present on the item are leftover from when the owner originally acquired the collection. This is very evident in their large assortment of back-issue comics. I learned this the hard way when I found a bunch of valuable comics with dirt cheap and multi-colored price stickers on them, only to be told that those prices were incorrect. Another thing to note is the prices they are asking for on the back issue comics are either wayyyyy overpriced or a few bucks over fair market value. So, don't expect to go diving in a one-dollar bin here. Unless it's truly an essential issue you can't find anywhere else, I would say look for it elsewhere. You'll find lots of gems and essential comics at the House of Fun but not have fun with their pricing (or lack thereof).

She had my husband come in to the store to sit in AC while I shopped. She even shared where she bought the mirror (Sam's Club) Definitely a positive shopping experience!

The transaction and her experience in recognizing the value of my item was the least impressive part of my experience. We live in a chaotic world where people in this industry take advantage of and treat people who come into these type of shops as desperate or less than. The transaction took about 15 minutes but we talked for almost an hour. Sam is a rare find in this business and in fact in this world. She's a gem and I wouldn't do business anywhere else. They even encouraged me to try on a silhouette that was a little different from what I thought would be nice on me. I'm on the shorter side and have bigger hips, so I had originally asked for an A-line. After trying on a few of those styles and not loving any of them, they suggested I try a fit and flare. It was gorgeous!!!! They even had the seamstress there to walk me through what the alterations would look like. This was my first appointment of the day, so they encouraged me to be open about other dresses, sleep on it, and come back if I decided on one of their dresses. I ultimately bought a beautiful lace Provonius fit and flare off the rack for our wedding in Sep 2022 and I cannot be more excited to wear it!! I also love the one-on-one experience you get with Simplicity. You are the only one in there so all their attention is on you. Highly recommend!

This was the second salon I went to for my wedding dress and it was overall a very uncomfortable experience. I walked in not really knowing what I wanted with just a few pictures in hand. I showed pictures to the consultant and to the first or second picture I showed her she said, "You really like that"- questioning my preferences. She also said, 'They don't make dresses like that anymore' (this was a picture of a satin style dress- which I have seen pictures of in many of the newest bridal magazines recently so not sure what she was talking about). I also ended up purchasing a satin dress not from here obviously. Basically the entire time I did not feel welcome or listened to at all. I was really hoping that this salon would offer a better experience especially because of all of the positive reviews on the knot and wedding wire. The atmosphere was very stuffy. The consultant did not show me any dresses that I described or showed her pictures of- nothing was what I asked for. I felt like the consultant was putting me in dresses she wanted to wear herself rather than my personal style. I also had to wear gloves to "protect the sample dresses" something that seems quite extreme - like I would rather wash my hands and what about the makeup on my face do you really think white gloves are going to "protect your dresses?" I really would not recommend this place- it is just not a welcoming atmosphere. My family with me felt the same as well about this experience.
