This is a wonderful place to peruse beautiful artwork done by local artists and artisans, many of whom are inspired by the native beauty here on South Padre. The Space itself is beautiful with a lovely location on the bay. The Lounge also offers art classes to get your creative juices flowing, as well as some great events like a recent local jewelry show. Yoga is also held here regularly. Check out the website for class schedules. Being able to practice yoga while surrounded by beautiful artwork is an amazing experience. ABI SPI is a small business incubator whose mission is basically two-fold, provide new and upcoming local artists with space to produce their wares and teach them how to run a business, so they can make a career out of their creative passion. Super nice folks there, explained it all ... many fun and interesting pieces on the tables and walls, work areas, meeting tables and they have art classes too! There was a sweet artist working in there and she gave me a casual tour of the artwork hung up high around the large space and its adjacent room. Turns out she did a lot of the beautiful artwork hanging in the space - I was so impressed! If I had the money and ability to carry it home with me there is a huge piece above the register that would be my dream to have over my headboard in my bedroom. I loved seeing the various pieces of art all over this space. From the outside you can see the upcycled surfboard mosaic art board of marlins. Inside the gallery there is one with a mosaic wave and bubbles on it. I would love to put that up in my living room. I ended up purchasing a beautiful air plant in a spiky urchin shell for my guest bathroom and it is happily there now in its new home. I very much recommend this shop to anyone looking for a nice piece to bring home or a gift for friends and family.

My friends and…read moreI stopped in to look around and three of my friends were followed around the store as if they were going to steal something. Not once were they asked if they needed assistance, not once were they welcomed. My non-hispanic friend was greeted with courtesy and was welcomed to the store. We were planning to purchase items, but given the rude experience we endured, we were happy to take our money elsewhere. I really hope the horrendous attitudes of the employees change as their customer base is largely compromised of Hispanic shoppers since we are located in the RGV, not to mention visitors from other areas. The works of several artists around the world is beyond fascinating and eternal. Their artistry unfolds in just a moment of time and surrenders to the ocean. Like many great artists, the work is not for material gain, but rather for the cathartic experience to them and the audience that embraces it. We suggest arriving South Padre Island in advance to settle in before the live art exhibition begins. It's a fascinating process to watch the work evolve over a handful of days. Best time to take photos is the last day, early in the morning around 9AM before the mass crowds arrive. Parking is ample at Clayton's so long as you arrive early. I had just completed a few paintings of my own and was pleasantly surprised to find this exhibition complete my thought processes and personal journey.
