We are very grateful to Anna Mamiya and the team at PAC for helping our daughter! Her condition made everyday life for her very stressful and painful. It impacted pretty much every aspect of her life and determined what we could do as a family. We are now able to eat dinner as a family again and go out in public to loud spaces - like the mall, Costco, etc. School has become much easier. The treatment does not cure misophonia, but it does teach her brain that the trigger sounds are not something that it needs to react strongly to and get away from. Yes, chewing sounds will always be annoying, but there is no strong emotional response anymore. I highly recommend anyone dealing with misophonia or hyperacusis to have a consultation with Anna Mamiya. She explains the science behind the treatment and what can be achieved. It all lined up with what I had already learned about the conditions so it made sense to have my daughter get the treatment. I am so glad we did! Life is so much easier now for her and us!

She was incredibly thorough and took time to explain to me what she was doing and what my results meant. I didn't feel rushed and felt like my options were clearly explained. The craziest thing is that when I went to pick up my new hearing aids, she forgot to give me the cable for the charger. I didn't realize this until she showed up at my house that evening to drop it off. That's someone who takes their responsibilities seriously and cares about their patients. Follow ups have been super helpful in adjusting the aids to my needs. Highly recommended.

After I had surgery on my ear and it didn't heal correctly, I was referred to Seattle Audiology…read moreAssociates where I met with Dr. Merrill Hill who helped me to be more optimistic about my problem, telling me that my condition was not necessarily permanent and that there was a good chance that a lot of my hearing could be restored, possibly with reconstructive surgery. That was inspiring because the last thing a musician/music teacher needs is to be deaf...partially or otherwise! My ear had a tube taken out and then it failed to heal properly - my eardrum now had a hole in it that made it impossible for me to sing or do music anymore. I couldn't even go to shows or movies without horrible pain and tinnitus in my ear. I was also despondent about the fact that I could not dive in the water anymore either. Being an avid swimmer who loved the water dearly, that was blow to me as well. It seemed like the two things that I loved to do most were suddenly taken away from me abruptly and I was heartbroken. Dr. Hill's kind words gave me hope. I eventually got a tissue graft on my damaged ear by a good surgeon and most of my hearing has indeed been restored. Dr. Hill gave me a hearing test after my recovery from the surgery indicating that the hearing in my recently repaired ear had improved greatly and he explained exactly where I stood in relation to hearing pitches and how it would relate to my profession. He was very knowledgeable and encouraging about my ear problem. He had special ear protective devices made for me allowing me to hear on music gigs without damaging my ears. He also had earplugs made for me to wear in the water so I could go swimming again, something that I absolutely love to do. Dr. Wuth, another doctor there, was great too and he has given me hearing tests in the past as well. If you are suffering with hearing loss and/or tinnitus, Seattle Audiology Associates are a good place to get help with hearing issues.

I visited her…read moretowards the end of last year as a new patient and she spent about 30 minutes getting to know me before checking everything that I asked her to. She made me feel comfortable and relaxed every step of the way, talking me through everything. Dr. Karmali is extremely kind, attentive, gentle, humble, and calming. She went to UW Med School, so extra points for that! Another cool thing is that Swedish uses MyChart, an online personal health record system where you can see your medical history, appointments, messages from your doctor, etc. Strangely, when I called to make an appointment, the receptionist said that Dr. Karmali did not have any openings until January 2015. However, when I went online to MyChart, I saw multiple openings between now and the end of the year. I ended up making an online appointment with Dr. Karmali for early December and cancelling my phone-made appointment with another doctor at Swedish. I am so excited to go see Dr. Karmali again soon!

After my motorcycle accident in 2009 Dr. Karmali checked up on me and worked with my medical records from Harborview to continue with my pain management care. To this day she still works closely with me on this care and has been very good at keeping an eye out for my health and well being and continues to work with my pain management doctor at Harborview. Dr. Karmali set me up with MyChart (available to all Swedish patients) when I moved back to WA and through that I am able to discuss issues with her without having to make an appointment to go into the clinic (I'm already there enough as it is!) and she is quick to get back to me usually same day but definitely within 24 hours. She even responds on her days off and to me, that is complete dedication and proves just how much she cares about her patients. I have recommended her to a couple of friends and they love her as well. Dr. Karmali is very knowledgeable and caring. If she is unsure of something she will investigate the issue to ensure that you get the best possible care. She is just an amazing doctor and an even more amazing person.
