My girlfriend and I tried this place before we went on a cruise. The beds were fine and everything was clean. The problem was with the charges. She ended up paying for both of us and ended up getting double charged. When she approached the staff about it they said that it was part of a membership which is not what she wanted. After 10 to 15 minutes of back and forth she finally fixed it but I couldn't believe it was such a big problem to fix and why she had to keep going over it again and again with her. read more

I love this place! I visit several different locations but am always greeted with a warm and friendly smile, knowledgeable staff and clean beds. The only downside would be I feel like sometimes I get pressured into buying a package or new lotion but almost every tanning place I've been too has been this same way. A time or 2 I've had to fib and say I "forgot my wallet" or "maybe next time" They have many different pricing options and usually have good specials going on and I have gotten a few freebees via email. I do the unlimited level 2 monthly special and feel like I get my moneys worth for sure. read more

I have been going here for many years and absolutely love the guys that work here , they are like a ray of sunshine , incredibly professional and knowledgeable . I love the spay tans and how efficient they are in getting you into a room . All of these things did not happen yesterday. I came in and The front desk gal was in the middle of selling a package to a new customer, witch I totally understand , she NEVER says hi , welcomes me in or says , I will be with you in just a moment , etc . I wait a few minutes and decided to go to the bathroom to give her time to finish her sale . I wash my face to get ready for my spray tan and am trying to take my time. I come back out and continue to wait .... as they are smelling the third tan lotion I finally asked " is anyone else available to check me in, I have a baby at home and have limited time " the customer that she is helping tells me I am fucking rude, I know I would have said ... go ahead and check her in ,I shouldn't have to wait 15 to 20 min just to check in . I finally get checked in and get my tan and on my way out CHLOE , said to me I called my manager and told them about what happened and I am putting a note in your account that if you are rude again you can't come back !!!! WOW , this is how you treat a long term customer, I explained that the other guys are great at prioritizing and check people in quickly while they are in the middle of a long sale , CHLOE continued to argue with me telling me that I was wrong and that I was in the wrong , After waiting that long is it SO wrong to ask if anyone else is available to help me ? She handled the situation horribly. As a business owner myself I would want to know if one of my employees was treating long term customer , well any customer that way . I am bummed because after all these years I now have to find a new place to spray tan . read more

I absolutely LOVE Seattle Sun Tan! I've tried out many tanning salons in my day, and this is hands down the best location; I won't be changing any time soon! I honestly have nothing remotely bad to say about this place. I've NEVER had to wait for a bed (they have plenty,) The location is very, very clean with a great atmosphere, the price is right, and above all, I LOVE THE STAFF! I find myself loitering almost because I love talking to them! The people working here are a breath of fresh air and very wonderful people. Don't judge a book by it's cover. These seattle sun tan salons may put on a good show with fairly nice people working the front desk and nice decor, BUT THEY ARE THE WORST WHEN IT COMES TO SWINDLING YOU OUT OF MONEY. Let me explain. The most likely way to lose your hard earned money is buying into the membership gimmick. There is a lot of "fine print" and terms of the membership that they either don't explain at all or only partially tell you up front if asked! To start: they often offer a 99 cent 1st month membership. Sweet, you think you'll try it out for a month to see if you will use the membership so-called "benefits" to save money. But, you will not be allowed to cancel your membership after the first month without them charging your credit or debit card for the full price of the second month. So what you may not know when you sign up is that you will be on the hook for at least the cost of one full price month of membership. Next: Your billing cycle end on the 15th of the month, but if you don't request IN PERSON at the salon (phone call not allowed) by the 1st of the month, then you will be charged for another month. "Oh, I wasn't told that I had to put in my cancellation request before the 1st even though my billing cycle ends on the 15th. Please refund my money." No dice! They will not refund your money even though their employes didn't explain this clearly nor was there any fine print to read explaining this. And finally: If you put up a fight and call "customer service", then they might give you credit in the form of money on your account to be spent on FULL PRICE packages or lotion only. You are not allowed to use your credited money (which was drafted out of your bank account or credit card/ YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY) on any discounted or sale items. They say, "We cannot apply 2 discounts to an item" . It's not 2 discounts! It's my money that you wouldn't refund and instead locked it up to only be spent on your products. 1 discount is the sale. There is no 2nd discount! Crooks. FYI- you are not informed, ever, that if you have credit on your account, you can't use it towards any sale or discounted item. So if you "freeze" your membership, they will take $5 out of your account every month and give you $5 credit to spend ONLY if you unfreeze your membership and resume normal monthly payments. So that $10/month that you acquired on a frozen membership, is only spendable on full price items. What we learned: 1. Memberships are a scheme to suck money out of you. They are not a deal! 2. Cancel your membership before the 1st of the month. Don't freeze your account. 3. If they offer credit to your account instead of refunding it, you won't be able to spend it on sale items. 4. BAD BUSINESS!!! FRAUD!!!! They charged my credit card for 3 months after I'd cancelled my membership. I had turned in the paperwork they require for cancellation, but the paperwork was never entered into their system. When I called they told me that they don't issue refunds bc the paperwork wasn't in the system. The woman at the corporate office said she understood that it was the fault of the salon employee but they do not give refunds. EVEN WHEN THEY HAD NO RIGHT TO TAKE DEBIT MY ACCT IN THE FIRST PLACE!! So don't give them your cc info but even when you cancel and fill out the required paperwork and turn it in, they'll just say it isn't there so they can keep getting more money from you!!!!!! read more

I came in for a cocktail. After listening to the female attendant talk to her friends for the 12 mins I was I. The bed I came out to do a spray tan. While I was waiting for her to talk to her fiends 2 people came in and she helped them for 10 mins while I waited. The line began to grow again and she didn't have the common sense to say "I'm sorry she is next and has been waiting". You need more staff or better staff that understand how a line works. read more

I had a massively horrible experience here that sheds some light on the character of this company and you may not want to hand your money over to such a hostile group. I used the tanning both there in preparation for a trip, only wanting to tan just a bit. I did and bought a membership. I purchased a single additional tanning session at the end of the month, on this day, (in person) i was done and i told the attendant i would like to cancel my membership. I never went there again. About 7 months later i noticed i was still being charged by them. I called and *politely* asked why i was still being charged and they immediately claimed i must have never cancelled my membership. I emailed back that i did and that i'd like my money back for those extra months. They refused any refund while admitting that their computerized system confirmed that i had not used their facilities again after the last day i was there! (Note that they require you to cancel in-person, something they did not inform me of btw, and i wonder how many unwitting people wait to call at the end of the month, informed that they cannot cancel but unable to make it into the store, requiring another payment....) Now very angry, i I had to reach a level of anger that bordered on hostility before they would refund any money and they would only refund a part of it. This a bad sign because there are so many soft spoken, gentle people who may also be forgetful/busy/depressed/etc who won't go to those lengths to get their money back and i urge for their sake and your sake to not support companies with policies like this designed to essentially swindle as much money from others as possible with no regard for others. Think about that, trying to get money, a lot of money in this case, from someone without doing anything in return, someone whos not wronged you in any way, who worked (presumably) for that money themselves. Would you do that to your friends or family? It could be considered even worse to do it to a stranger because you don't know what the financial situation the stranger is in. They could desperately need that money, as many rich people cannot even know because they so often jump right into good jobs after college. An article in the Seattle TImes about the CEO of Seattle Sun Tan shows that he is a millionaire. He is just another ignorant rich person, mostly unwittingly acting as a parasite on society, keeping us unnecessarily on our toes, (literally in fight or flight mode if you look at current research on depression, creating inflammatory bodily responses over a life time) creating policies to take advantage of people's natural imperfections, literally working against this community. Please choose another company if you can. At least until they change their policies to support a less hostile society. read more

Fist time customer at Seattle sun tan ! Now I am a last time customer for them ! I want to go tanning not buy a car ! Sales people try to up sell you and are like OMG like these level 1 and like 2 beds like OMG won't like do like anything for like you like so for 50$ more you could like tan better or like 500$ more depending on like how much you like wana throw down ! WOW ! I think after my 1 month membership I will be like going somewhere else ! Sales people are rude and inconsiderate . Customer service is not there number one objective . AMAZING. I am as pale as it gets and brunette. I always burn in the sun, and refuse to even try to tan to protect my skin. I've tried another tanning place to do a spray-on but felt sort of closed in, the tan wasn't very noticeable and it wasn't convenient. I decided to try again when my friend and I saw this location in U-Village, which I frequent. Parking was easy because the village has a parking lot throughout and a large garage just in case. I was able to park right near Seattle Sun Tan. We called ahead and the staff were very friendly, telling us we didn't need appointments. We came it at about 6 on a Wednesday evening and walked right in. The lobby was clean and spacious, as was the entire place. The women at the desk were friendly, helpful and funny. They gave us free bottled water, a tour, information on which spray tan to choose and encouragement when I got nervous! One of them even did a little dance to show us the positions for VersaSpa. So once we had paid (50 dollars for 3 sessions with the VersaSpa, very reasonable), we went into a spacious room. I used the restroom, which was also incredibly clean and large. They offered us separate rooms but we decided to share. After being briefed on the room and how it works, we were left alone. The VersaSpa was AMAZING, very simple with automated voice instructions telling you exactly what to do. It even dries you with air so you don't need to towel off! Ten minutes later we were done. The tan is gorgeous--it looks completely real and is not orange at all. I was afraid it would be too dark, but I got Level 1 for my very pale skin and am now the perfect shade of tan for my skin tone. All in all it was amazing--we will definitely be returning to maintain our new tans!! read more

I have been a member of Seattle Sun Tan since Sep of 2012, and the few times I have walked in to tan every girl that works is sitting on the couch and rolls their eyes because they have to get up and press some buttons. The girls have very poor attitude, i have canceled my membership and they still charged my account. Worst tanning salon i have ever been too. I miss Vegas. Won't honor their own coupons. Wanted to try the red light therapy. Got a $20 for coupon doing their survey, with no stipulations on it. They Charge $29 bucks for one session, $50 for the month? Red light bulbs can be put in any tanning bed even the cheapest, and last longer than tanning bulbs. So for $9 to let me try it they still would have made money, and maybe had a future customer. Also their tanning bulbs aren't as hot as Dessert sun, which are always hotter especially when just installed. Not an expert but was thinking the hotter ones have more infrared which is good for the body similar to red light therapy, stimulating collagen, etc, which is good to counter UV Radiation. No stand up units for the base units like other places. Clean and nice spot, but far from the freeway. Friendly staff. Corporate BS like most of them on canceling and policy. read more

Beds are always clean, staff is friendly, hardly if ever a wait for the tanning bed I want. I don't feel a lot of pressure to buy anything while I'm there. I think if you hit them up during promotions, it's a great deal for the quality of the beds and location. Parking can be a little tricky at times, but that's just life in Seattle - at least it's free! read more

These brods (generally speaking) are horrible salesmen..and for as simple a job as they have, have no knowledge whatsover to their packages, equipment, nor can they explain stipulations of purchased packages and expiration dates. People are just so caught up with these attractive in their face they fail to see it. Very few of them are professional and knowledged. I've been going to this location for a while now. I have found that once you have joined up it is best to go in early or late. If there are a lot of people in the queue signing up new customers and explaining the packages can take a long time and you may have to wait a long while. Regrettably SST does not allow appointments. The complementary bottled water is a nice touch. Unfortunately from my experiences the beds are not maintained on a regular schedule and beds with burned-out and weak bulbs are kept in use. The best tan East of Maui is IMO a rather silly slogan. Tanning is usually associated with proximity to the equator (North and South) and has little to do with East and West. read more

As far as equipment goes, it was a pretty basic tanning salon. Honestly, what really turned me off was the staff. I don't usually complain (and I didn't, except on here), but the girl that "helped" me last time (awhile ago) acted like she had never heard of customer service. Facilities are extremely clean and staff is very friendly. I feel sometimes pushed to buy more expensive cremes, but I can hold my own. It's very spacious and I always get the results I'm looking for. They have good music so you can jam out while tanning, and free water bottles. read more

FAULSE ADS + BAD ATTITUDE + WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE : Seattle Sun Tan @ U village just overcharged me due to faulty training one of the employees who INFORMED me my first purchase will last until 14th of NEXT month (JULY) so I put a reminder on my calendar. When I check my account today, the "next payment" for the membership I'm in is CHARGED today. So I called up the location and explained but the worker Serra's answer was "WON'T give you a refund because it's their "system" is charging automatically." So I wanted to talk to the manager of the company, and Serra forwarded my call to Ashley in Seattle Suntan Customer Service department, and she was repeating the same thing over and over and treating me with an ATTITUDE without ANY SINCERE APOLOGY even if I was literally asking for it because ALL THIS happened due to their lack of education from their company and it was all the company and their employees' fault. Revision and improvement of their customer service and training process are definitely needed in order to be a local representative. Yet, my experience is beyond shameful how I was treated over the phone call. This business gives customers nothing but the MISLEADING INFO and ATTITUDE towards the customer. Plus, FAULTY ADVERTISEMENT and NO REFUND and NO APOLOGY for their "customer service." HR of the company needed to be rethink or do their business correctly. read more

I had the worst experience ever at this location. The woman at the counter was so disrespectful to me when I was nothing but friendly and polite. I just wanted a simple tanning package and she told me I was "wasting my time". I did not want to spend a fortune buying lotions there, and she told me I was crazy not buying lotion. Dirty Dirty beds, I have been a member for years and who ever owns it now should be ashamed of how this establishment is being operated, on 6 occasions I have been given a dirty bed, upon speaking to the manager about this, he did nothing, matter of fact the employee (who has no concept of customer service or cleanliness) has been verbally abusive and rude each time I have returned.. I do request clorox wipes to clean my own bed before I tan. PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN SANITATION WIPES AND CLEAN YOUR OWN BED. I shall be visiting the Health Dept to report them as well.. read more

I have to say the actual tanning experience was great and many of the employees that I encountered were kind but I am beyond frustrated with the billing process. I had been to Seattle Sun a few times in the past to tan for a single month leading up to an event or trip and had no issues. This time I went in with the idea that I would have the same experience. I asked for ONE MONTH of the membership that is required in order to select various tans at the lower price (their pricing is ridiculous and so so confusing). I told the employee that I wanted the same package as I had used in the past. They do not provide physical paperwork when you are looking at the plans. So I trusted her with the understanding that I would be signed up for the same package and signed using the electronic signature pad at the counter. After my month was over I had finished the amount of tans that I thought I had purchased and I moved on. The following month I was reviewing my bank statement at the end of the month and noticed a charge from Seattle Sun. I called and they explained that I had been signed up for a monthly recurring membership without my knowledge. Also, they refused to cancel over the phone. This was at the end of December so they informed me that the store would be closing early for New Years eve and would be closed the following day. So I drove in on January 2nd and signed the signature pad to cancel the membership. Fast forward 2 weeks and there is ANOTHER charge from them. This time I skipped the branch phone call and called directly to corporate. The woman informed me that they require a full 15 days to cancel and since the billing cycle ends on the 15th there had only been 13 days so my cancellation hadn't taken effect. The refused any sort of refund for the now 2 months of charges for this membership that I had never requested in the first place. I am so frustrated. Please reconsider before using their salons. Such a complete rip-off. I work hard for my money and won't ever waste a dime on them again. read more

I like the Seattle Sun Tan chain in general, especially for the Versa Spray Tan, accessories and free water, but the University Village is by far the most under-staffed and unprofessional. Prices are reasonable, and people are friendly, but there is almost always a wait (sometimes even just for someone to show up at the front desk!) and the staff tends to forget that you are waiting as they appear to be busy chatting with each other and different boys/friends that stop by. This is near a major university so a younger crowd is to be expected, I just wished they were up to the same standards as the Ballard location- here the spray tan rooms are always super clean, stocked with towels and other necessities whereas Uvillage almost never is and I have had to go back out into the lobby after stripping down and then re-dressing to remind the front desk girls to reset the machine, or get more lotion, hair nets etc. I normally don't write reviews, as I understand out of the ordinary things can happen from time-to-time, but the above experiences have happened more than 10 times in just a 3 month period. Perhaps this well help them up the customer service. If it weren't for the much-needed spray tan and location I would definitely pass. read more

Wow. Terrible service. I went to this salon because my friend had tans on her account and I decided to use the $20 coupon online because my funds are currently low. When I tried to use it the lady (with black hair and absolutely terrible blonde streaks) said I had to spend at least 20 dollars to use it. However no where on the coupon did it say this. I told her there was nothing in the fine print and she interrupted me saying "I've done it before and it got me in trouble, my manager won't let me".... So I went back online and saw there was a free week for new members which she failed to tell me about. So I used that coupon instead and finally got a tan. The same lady was making snarky comments when I was signing up, about putting my email on file and what not. Anyways the point of this review is that this is a terrible place to tan, not relaxing or welcoming by any means. The employees are rude and are just trying to make sales and make as much commission possible! Trust me I used to work at a tanning salon. I will NEVER be back to this salon ever, even though I have a 6 free days remaining. I highly advise you to never go to this salon and/or waste your time and money there. read more

I've never had a bad day here. Of course everyone should be aware that there is a sales element, and there are (pretty standard and straightforward) rules about memberships and cancellations, but all of that is to be expected in this business model, and I would be shocked to find a place that didn't run like this to some degree (I'm responding to some of the negative yelp reviews I have read here, in my personal opinion and experience.). So, with that out of the way, I will say I went in knowing I just needed a SAD and vitamin D pick me up on the regular. Once we got through the initial explanation for how everything worked, as well as the (likely required, so no need to hold it against them) lotion pitch, the staff was completely cool with my needs, and didn't once try to up-sell me. After many months of quite nice tanning (clean, calm environment), I started getting curious about some of the spa offerings. It was not until I specifically asked about these services that anyone talked to me about them, and when I did, they were simply helpful and informative. Not pushy at all. I had a great first session in the wellness pod, and I'm probably going to try all the other light services and likely upgrade my package. So, for what it's worth, as long as you are aware that this is a standard sales and membership model, you shouldn't get any nasty surprises. Shout out to all the staff I've interacted with (U Village store), you are dolls. I'm only self conscious that I will start spending way too much time there, with all the neat service offerings! read more

I was nervous about coming here or anywhere else for that matter because of how many negative reviews all of these tanning places have, but I went in knowing exactly what I wanted and had an excellent experience here. Of course they tried to upsell me a little and yeah, they weren't the friendliest people on the planet, but neither am I. I went in, got a tan, and got out. This is the only tanning salon I have been to in many years. I have nothing to compare them to, however I have not been disappointed yet. Once you get past the sales part and get a membership, the staff is usually very friendly. Tip: if you need new lotion, go in the last day of the month, they normally will give you a fair discount. However, if you don't need lotion, don't go the last day of the month, they darn near won't let you leave unless you buy some lotion. LOL Nice group of kids though, and they keep the place clean and they beds are maintained well. read more
