View from the mezzanine. Great for people watching.
    Lucy B.

I like this place, it's a lovely, dinky place to hang out. Perched on my stool on the mezzanine, like a walloping great canary, I found it a great place to have a coffee, people watch, and really, just relax. And it IS a very relaxing place. There's plenty of natural light, there was non-intrusive music playing, and the gentle hub-bub of chat. You can watch the hip Finnieston world go by (ten points for every ridiculous beard) or peer down on the folks below, resisting the urge to throw tiny things into the decorative french bread display below. I also really liked the beautifully carved little bar upstairs - it's really lovely to sit at. I had an Americano coffee, because that's my coffee. I don't drink any other version. Check me being all hardcore an' that. They have a sign that says they have Artisan Roast or Dear Green. Sadly, they had run out of Artisan Roast, so Dear Green it was. I really really want to like Dear Green. I'm from Glasgow, it's a Glasgow coffee, and it's called Dear Green - I mean come on, what's not to love and swear undying allegiance to? Well, to start, there's the taste of it. I'm sorry *whispers* - I don't really like it. I've only had it twice and the first time I thought that maybe there was something wrong with it. Nope - it's supposed to taste that way. I'm in no way a coffee expert, but to my tastes, it's weirdly acidic and a bit sour. I know other folk go nuts for it - each to their own. I had no cake. There is no vegan cake. Although, I have to say, the nice woman explained it very graciously. Simon H on the other hand, made up for it with a big scone, and some sort of milky effort of a coffee. We also bought some ciabattas for later, and made some mighty proper garlic bread with it. T'was tasty. I'd definitely go back to this Seb & Mill. I was intimidated for a while about going in, because I didn't know what it actually was - there's no sign over the doorway outside. So me with my paranoid android hat on is thinking 'should I know what this place is... can you only go in if you're in the know? I certainly don't want to stumble in, ask what the place is, then reverse out cos I'm not cool enough... Maybe they're just arrogant - they're so cool that they don't need a sign...' The answer to all of this is that the reason that they don't have a sign is because they are a small business, and they are seeing how it goes, and just building bit by bit. So next up, maybe a sign outside, maybe some breakfast options. They definitely would like to expand their food range. They seem like nice people, and I hope they build this wee place into a roaring success. And next time, hopefully I can have an Artisan Roast.

Poached eggs with avocado and tomato salsa with a decaf flat white.

I love this little spot. I've stopped in a few times for the odd flat white and a relaxing moment sitting at the window or for some delicious bread and macaroons to take home. Most recently I met a friend there for a good catchup upstairs. Both mothers of young children we remarked how wonderful it was to have some adult time in a spot that was very unlikely to have any young children. With high wood stools for seats and bars for tables it is welcoming for adults but cumbersome for children. For this occasion we were delighted. We both order poached eggs, hers were traditional with hollandaise sauce and mine were a bit lighter with a fresh and flavourful avocado and salsa. The eggs oozed a gorgeous yellow/orange colour and the bread was perfection. Looking forward to going here again.

    Not your average bread rolls

Seb & Mili is a very small cafe but it's perfectly formed. There's a handful of seats downstairs and just a few more upstairs on the Mezzanine. In between everything important is packed in. By everything important I mean coffee, cakes, pastries and breads. Because it's not just a standard coffee shop. The coffee is good (it's Artisan Roast) but the really exciting stuff is the baked goods and, quite probably, the rest of the food. I've not tried it, but I got very jealous of another customer who had ordered eggs benedict last time I was there - it looked perfect. What I have tried is a donut (yummy!) and a loaf of their pretzel bread (also yummy!). As far as Seb and Mili's baking goes, they've got it spot on. It's also just a nice place to sit. It's calm and doesn't feel cramped in spite of the small space. The WiFi is free too, so as with all places with coffee and WiFi, I think working here would be pleasant if you could get a proper table.

Whether you're after a wee snacky delicacy for a dinner starter (or dessert!), that essential but hard-to-find exotic ingredient that you simply must-have for a recipe, a designer beer or three, or even a quality malt whisky, Peckhams is the place that you're likely to find it. I usually visit here when my eye is caught by a fancy malt whisky in the window (cunningly displayed right beside their cash machine, the cads!), or when I'm seeking margaritas mix for what has become a Christmas cocktails tradition with us. The West End would be a poorer place without Peckhams. Long may they continue.

I love Peckhams. I'm probably there far too often. They pride themselves on being able to cater to your foodie needs all day long, with pastries and rolls in the morning, a wide range of lunch options and even their own range of freshly made ready meals for dinner. Then of course they have offers for coffee and cake, should you need anything else in between. As far as I'm concerned, this is what delis should be like. They would get five stars out of five too, but the service can be just a little bit on the slow side. I don't mean when they're struggling with the lunchtime rush because that's fair enough. I mean, it can take them a few minutes to realise that you haven't been served, and in serving you some things they can be very slow (don't bother getting butter on your roll in the morning, unless you've got plenty of time on your hands). It's easy to forgive them because they're friendly and helpful and because everything is delicious but if they were just a tiny bit more efficient Peckhams would be perfect.

Whilst in the area at the weekend and having just picked up some awesome cakes and sausage rolls at Cottonrake (find review, read, love and visit!) From perogies (spelling?) to awesome sausages, tinned good and fresh fruit. I've been back, I'll be back again and would advise anyone who's in the area to pop in for a nosey. Although I'm not Polish, I've spent quite a lot of time there and am a big fan of the culture. As soon as you step through the doors of this deli - you feel a bit like you're actually in Warsaw, and not in the West End of Glasgow. Wood paneling and straw baskets make this place undeniably cute, and as well as shelves and shelves of canned and tinned goods (all in Polish - obviously) you'll also find fresh goods. This includes a meat counter to die for (what can I say? I'm a carnivore at heart) as well as a mini bakery and lots and lots of cheese. All these products are delicious - and also very reasonably priced. I also love the fact that they sell Polish newspapers and magazines here. This definitely adds to the sense that a trip into Polish Taste is like a mini-holiday to Eastern Europe!

The bread and cake is a long a counter as you go in the main door, which is also where people who have eaten in the dining space are paying for their food, and is the main thoroughfare so it gets pretty busy. There was an impressive array of cakes including chocolate brownies, cheesecake and a gluten free option of lemon polenta cake. We went for a brownie and the polenta cake and both were delicious when we scoffed them at home. I'd definitely pop back to check out their cake options again, as well as trying them out for food as I was pretty impressed by Cafezique.

I ordered a latte and thinking I would get a decent amount of coffee, I was left disappointed. You know those small glasses you get for water? That's what the latte came in. A friend and myself, although I had had breakfast a few hours previously, decided to go for pancakes. Now, the flavourings sounded amazing - from something that we believed was going to taste like carrot cake to apple and cinnamon (which is what I went for). First, we waited for ages. When the "pancake" finally arrived, it was a huge skillet type pancake. They looked good and smelled lovely. Unfortunately, upon cutting in, my friend found her's to be completely raw in the centre (think batter), and mine was burnt on the underside - completely burnt. They also, unfortunately, lacked a lot of flavour and were very dry. The raw pancake was replaced with a free and un-raw one, and I ate about three quarters of mine (but I wasn't happy about it). It's also really quite warm in here. The few things that redeem this place is the bread on display (beautiful, beautiful bread) and the veggie sausage roll (which does not look like a sausage roll at all, but taste lovely). I also really like the tree inside the room. The staff is also very friendly.

I was lucky to be there on a day they ran out of their 'normal bread', so I ended up with their 'special' Italian bread. I think it is normally an up charge; I have a feeling I will be paying for it in the future because it hit the spot! Although, I am curious what the standard bread may be? I had mine toasted and for the Strong Italian that was the way to go!
