    Overnight oats (vegan)
    Matt B.

Excellent coffee and plenty of vegan options at this little coffee bar. I stopped in for a quick breakfast and coffee to go one morning. I got a double espresso (£2.70), which was honestly the best coffee I've had in Scotland on this trip (the coffee quality is pretty shite in the UK in general); and an overnight oats (£3.50), which was a tasty oatmeal dish, with a vegan yogurt, chia seed pudding, a few pieces of pineapple and maybe other stuff. Very tasty. Recommended.

A window seat for this large latte.

I had a latte with a square sausage roll. 5 stars for coffee, 2 for sausage roll. The coffee was excellent. Perfectly milky and no bitterness to the coffee. It went down so smooth. The very Scottish square sausage roll was okay. It was literally just a bun and sausage. The bun was underwhelming, the square sausage was good and not too salty. I just wished there was more to it. My Scottish husband said he was disappointed their wasn't more to it for £4. Almost missed the storefront because the cafe is so unassuming. Seating is quite limited inside. We were able to sit by the window to people watch.

    Cappuccino with empire biscuit
    Kevin B.

Riverhill is a charming, quality coffee shop and bakery. They have a delectable array of baked-in-house pastries and other goodies. The empire biscuit was delish, and the cappuccino was also nice. There's limited in-house seating, but you can get a bar stool by the window if you'd like to people watch. Worth a stop if you're in need of a coffee and/or a baked good!

Good coffee and the pastries look amazing the only issue for me would be the only size per cup of coffee , I would love to have a larger option

    Desserts, pastries, oh my!

Um, WOW. If you're visiting Glasgow or live here and haven't tried this cute little place, start walking. I have never seen such an insanely delicious looking dessert layout, Every pastry you could ever imagine sprawled out in a heavenly display. The coffee was great, we got an oat mocha and an oat cap. They were pretty small but hey, I'm American so I'm used to oversized craziness. This is a must go, I am huge coffee person and I don't think any coffee place I went to tops this joint. I already miss it.

Exterior, not what I was expecting. Very cool wee place! :-)

Right where are you? Boom, wow there you are, not what I was expecting at all. I had pictured it across the road for some reason and it's a lot smaller too. I was excited as they had pulled pork on the menu but, and I say this with a heavy but, they had ran out of todays portion and also tomorrow's. The girl serving me couldn't believe it either, so I opted for a chicken club roll instead. The girl was kind enough to ask if I would like it cut in half as it was mahoosive. Oh yes, yes please!! I had a cheeky wee Irn Bru with it and she invited me to have a seat. At first I thought it was small but then I saw stairs heading down to a basement level but alas it was staff only, therefore I felt it got even smaller. Feeling like Alice here. I perched on one of the stools lined up where a long table against the wall has been created for dining in. I can see this place as working well as a take away. I had to flattened by club bun as my wee mouth couldnae handle it and in the end I was defeated, it was too much. When I went to pay at the end I spied bloomin' big Victorian Empire Biscuits. "Eh. I'll have em...2 of them, please." One was for my dad, as I know he'd appreciate it and oh he certainly did. A busy wee hub with some cracking flavours, concoctions and certainly comestible cakes.

If you are shopping in the Buchanan Street area and you need a pick-me-up this little coffee shop is a great choice! It is very small and very busy, so it is not exactly a place you can sit around and lounge. The food smells good and looks amazing. I unfortunately had eaten shortly before Riverhill, but next time I will save my appetite to try their food! The staff was extremely friendly and I think that may be the best part of this quaint little shop. This attitude also reflects in the customers as well; I chatted it up with both people neighbouring me. If I was not in a hurry I would have stayed longer!

Yum! Scrumptious puy lentil and feta salad

Finally, I've found the perfect place to buy lunch in Glasgow. This place is amazing - every single thing looks delicous and the cafe itself is gorgeous. I'm currently eating a salad of bulghur wheat, puy lentils, feta, spinach, tomato, pomegranate, coriander ... it's incredible. Yum. No wifi, that I could see. And I'm currently eating my salad at my desk after initially sitting in at the window. That would be my one tip - don't try to eat in at lunchtime. I got all settled in the window with my book, only to find myself surrounded by jostling people in big coats - it's VERY busy! People milling round deciding what to have, people holding the door open, people wondering if 'it looks awfy dear' (it's not)... eventually I packed up and brought my lunch here! But that's not the cafe's fault, and it will quieten down, I'm sure.

A while ago I was recommended to visit the one in Helensburgh by Chris and never got the chance but when l did l was really impressed. But when you compare the two you could not get two places so different, with the one in Helensburgh has so much going on inside and this one feels a little on the characterless side and felt more of a take away but I'm sure this will change over time. I've only had the chance to come in the mornings if I'm passing by or heading through central station. There is always an impressive selection of cakes on display with savoury options also available, breakfast rolls are fantastic but they don't do eggs. Well worth a visit when passing by.

    Quiche-ing in the sun

I've revisited Riverhill quite a few times since my first visit: I've tried the bagels, more of the cakes and most recently the quiche. I visited late in the afternoon (3.30pm) looking for lunch and they were sold out of a lot of stuff. Not surprising! I asked about gluten free options for their savory food (it's this whacky new thing I'm trying, don't judge) but they didn't have a lot - I eventually settled on a piece of quiche. A slice was normally £4 but they gave it to me for £3 as it was a smaller piece, a very nice gesture as I didn't even have to ask. I sat down at the window seat and enjoyed the delicious quiche while people watching; a huge plus of sitting here. As I was doing some work, I thought I'd treat myself to some cake and went for the gluten free raspberry sponge which was delicious, although I couldn't eat the whole slice. The service here is always impecable. Smily, friendly and natural - happy people who want to make their customers happy. And that makes me happy.

Finally! A wonderful west end style cafe that the city centre gets a chance to enjoy! I'm so glad that this place has opened because it's everything that's good about west end coffee places, but right where it's desperately been needed; 2 minutes walk from Glasgow Central! Mr Chris D and myself made a lunch date today to try out this new place's offers, and I was so pleased to see that it ticked all the right boxes. Good coffee? Check. Good sandwich/panini/sourdough options? Check. Good daily soups/roasts? Check. I was also glad to see that this place sells Dear Green coffee, a Glasgow based coffee making company. Amazing that this place is keeping the company Glaswegian, even with their coffee choice! This is definitely a place you should be considering paying a visit. Get there early though, today they were sold out of soup by the time I got there! (The manager had enough for half a cup though which she gave me free of charge cause it wasn't a full cup! Hooray for free samples! (It was delicious if you're wondering))

Lunch doesnt get better than this.....well when you are looking for something to take back to the office anyway!! What a great wee place, friendly service and cool displays. To answers Gillians question it does have wifi, well it does now anyway. Having eaten hear a few times I can say: - Lovely home made soups - Sandwich of the days that are both delicious and nutritious - Cakes that make you go hmmmmmmm oh yeah (peanut butter cookie....hmmmmmmm) Todays lunch: Kofta wrap - filled with their home-made 'slaw', fennel salad, chili sauce and cucumber raiti. It was healthy but yet meaty and manly! Highly JD recommended

Oh hey here's an update of my favourite coffee place ever in Glasgow :) I think if you're a regular Yelper then you've perhaps seen me check into Riverhill a few thousand times in a month. I absolutely love it! The first time I went to Riverhill was when I first took the picture I posted up on Yelp, and that was almost 2 years ago. Til today, the same quirky long-haired barista with coohl glasses remembers my face and the way I like my coffee. Heck, he makes the best coffee in Glasgow, period. He also knows how to make the perfect soy cappuccino! No lumpy churning of soy milk found in my cup when he's behind the counter! Also, I love that I can just walk into the cafe and the staff would say "coffee?" without me even ordering. Proper service right there. I often go over for lunch too. It's really super busy during lunch hour but I'm always lucky enough to get a seat by the window. I suppose it's just my aura as a regular customer, I always get a seat ok!! Haha. From the food I've tried, I'd recommend their Chicken Shawarma or their homemade salads or even their soups. Those are really good for gaining energy for work :) In terms of cakes, they have different things on display everyday so just go in and see what you're gravitating towards. One of my favourites? CHOCOLATE MARSHMALLOW CAKE. YES. JUST YES. Also their banana loafs are great! They have vegan options too if you're on a special diet! :) Anyway, what don't I love about Riverhill? Great staff. Good food and cakes. Coffee is delicious. Free wifi! What more could I ask for? Don't try to convince me that something else is better because, no. :)

It's not my ideal location for afternoon tea as it's loud and busy but it didn't bother us as we weren't there for the atmosphere. The two ladies working there were really friendly and took our drinks orders quickly. We both ordered tea. I love the tea a Patisserie Valerie because it's loose leaf and served in a suki teapot. We decided to sit outside and watch people go by. It was a Saturday afternoon so very busy. Our food came really quickly. I was very pleased to see scones and real clotted cream. We were also given a selection of mini jam jars which was a nice touch. Sandwiches were also really nice. The cakes on top weren't bad but it wasn't something I'd personally choose, except for maybe the chocolate one. I'm saying a-okay because I felt the tables were too small, and also the tables didn't appear to have been wiped down in a while. The staff didn't really come outside to clear things away when others had left either. But I'd say overall fast friendly service and yummy food!

I bought a coffee and a box of macarons to take to the meeting. The coffee curing my hangover and the macarons made my colleagues even happier than I expected. They were delcious, sweet, cruncy, smooth and light. Everything a good macaron should be. So lets call that a 5 star experience. The sitting in occasion was slightly less perfect. I ordered a latte and a frangipane tart and I took a seat. There were a few other people in the cafe but it was far from busy. The staff were nice enough and my order arrived relatively quickly. Unfortunately my coffee was awful. It's not often that I abandon caffeine but this time I was forced to. The tart was ok - I'd order it again but it wouldn't go to the top of the list. So lets call that a 3 star experience. I guess that's why on balance it gets four stars. Realistically, that sounds about right. I hope the nasty coffee was a one off because I'm bound to be temped back in by the cakes soon enough.

Ok, so I'm a geek. Then, this place was made for me, right? Well actually, this is more for the comic book geek kind of person, but I was still tempted to go along to see what this place was like. It just opened (on Saturday) so I wasn't expecting much. It is pretty easy to see with the signage (look for black/yellow hazard tape coloured signs), and you head down a set of stairs with some seriously cool comic wallpaper. Into the main room and your eyes will be hit with walls of bright yellow and fluro lights. You'll find a cafe, lots of seating, comics as well as figurines and some locally made crocheted characters too. There was a guy standing near the cafe to "brief" people as they came in, if they walked in looking bewildered and confused like I did. I really appreciated this as he was super friendly and chatty without being pushy or overbearing. There was quite a lot of people in here for a Thursday lunch time seeing as it just opened, and in fact they'd sold out of hot dog rolls as well as a couple of paninis, so they must be doing well. I settled for a cupcake (with a batman logo) and had a seat. There is plenty of seating although I imagine if it got busier, you might have to share a table with a stranger (not necessarily a bad thing!). They have a display of comics for you to read while you eat which I thought was pretty cool, as well as board games to play (just leave a £5 deposit). They are still ironing out some things - they are getting wifi, so at the moment it's a reception black hole with no phone/internet (what is a geek to do?!) but I imagine that once that is sorted this would be a pretty good place to hang out for a geek-out. They sell a bunch of American themed snacks and lollies (candy/sweeties) if you are so inclined. I liked the vibe of this place. Geeky - obviously, but also friendly, relaxing and (dare I say it) a bit cool. Nice one, guys!

The solution in Glasgow is to forget boring run-of-the-mill 'full' anythings for breakfast or brunch and go to Papercup instead. I don't even drink coffee, which they are known for. I need to try a hot chocolate here one of these days. My friend ordered an oat milk one on this visit and said it tasted like a dessert in itself. Vegan, veggie, or gluten-free? No problem. Most American restaurants seem to want to make you feel like a criminal to even ask. My egg omelette on this visit had so many yummy toppings and was so big, bread wasn't even needed. A drizzle of sauce, a squeeze of lime...this is the kind of place you want to get behind because they treat you like part of the family. I was taken in by the display at the counter so headed in to have a look - the guy serving was super friendly and welcoming which was nice. I decided to get a couple of cakes to try and he explained to me what they were - frolla are a type of cake from Naples made with ricotta and they have different flavours. Yes, it's certainly not what I was expecting to pop up in this slightly unfashionable shopping mall. So, Ddoce is a completely new concept for Glasgow, a real Southern Italian style Pasticceria. There are very few places in town that do real Italian pastries and the ones that do, often serve up Sicilian style cannoli. However Ddoce specialises in the famous 'Sfogliatelle' from the Campania region of Italy. The Sfogliatelle come in various forms, from the most popular Riccia, which is a flaky, very crispy filled pastry with a delicious ricotta and orange innard, to the simple short crust Frolla with various delicious fillings like creme patissiere, chocolate creme etc. On my first visit I wanted to try a bit of everything so I kindly treated the office to a selection of sweets and I bagged a little arrancino for myself. The arrancino was nice, but much smaller than the ones I am accused to in Italy. The rice was coated in a nice ragu and it had a stringy mozzarella middle that served me well on the walk up the road. All the pastries were good and very similar to what I've eaten in Italy. Sfogliatelle aren't quite my favourite style of pastries so it will be interesting to see what the Glaswegians make of them. My favourite pastry was the Black Cherry and creme pat Pasticciotto. Simply delicious!! At £2.50 it ain't cheap, but it's a nice wee treat and I find it better value than what many other cafes dish up. I suppose you gotta bare in mind that all this stuff is shipped in from Naples, so for that price it ain't too bad! Also on offer is savoury dishes like Lasagna, Cannelloni, Pizza Rustica. The portions looked reasonable and the food looked authentic. Next time I visit I will definitely be trying this stuff along with a coffee (which looked good)! Although this place would make a killing in the more hip West End part of town, I hope that people Glasgow head along to try something a little different.

First you go down an alley, only to reveal a secret enclave of an antique store, corner shop, and the tearoom. The square itself is fun to explore and great for photos. Once we sat down in the charming tearoom, we were greeted by a friendly and accommodating server. We ordered the afternoon tea. There was a perfect balance of sweet and savory with yummy finger sandwiches and delectable scones with clotted cream and jam. This is a lovely afternoon tea spot for all ages!

Honestly I could rave about this place. I just love afternoon tea to begin with so there's that,…read morebut honestly I feel like the teas were just SO lovely. I had their house chai and their London fog, both of which were creamy and SO flavorful and served in the loveliest teapots. The finger sandwiches and cakes were also really good and I actually did leave full, as did my travel companions. The servers were friendly and checked in often, and the place itself was actually fairly big (had 2 floors and we sat in a corner on the second floor), but it had a quant feel. The cost per person was reasonable in my opinion at £16 per person for a mini pot of tea and selection of sandwiches and tea cakes. We really enjoyed our experience there and I would recommend it to anyone looking to have a lovely afternoon tea!
