    #LocalAdventureChallenge: Visit A Beach!

Because I grew up on Sebago Lake (near Standish), I had never been to the state park (at least not that I can remember). But I've always loved this lake -- it's incredibly clear waters, the way it can be still like a pond or choppy like the ocean, the icy coldness of it at the beginning of summer and the bath water warmth at the end of the season. The State Park opened in 1938 and is considered one of Maine's original state parks; it's much bigger than it seems (and I was impressed with how clean it was; from what I've noticed, people do a great job carrying in, carrying out). So far I've only been to one area, I guess the sand bar? It's mostly pine trees and picnic tables that abruptly open up to just a few feet of sand before the water (and expansive views of the surrounding mountains) itself. The sand is gravelly, but not super rocky -- it makes swimming such an enjoyable experience because the lake bottom is so smooth and firm (like not at all soft; I don't know about you, but I hate stepping into a body of water and feeling my feet sink into muck). So refreshing! So Maine! I love having a State Parks Pass and all the great places I've been able to explore (some for the first time and some for the millionth time)! (#ThankYouThursday and #ThankYouEVERYDAY for the Maine State Parks Pass; the absolute best gift anyone ever got me, and especially useful this past year.)

Beautiful beautiful beautiful Places like this makes me feel proud to be from New York! Definitely recommend coming and also if you are able to, stay in the cabins. Hike, meditate, etc... such a cool place to come to.

The best lake swimming around. It only gets warm enough for swimming a couple months a year but, when that happens, there is no place I would rather be. Clean lake with a nice sandy bottom as well as a small sand beach. Quite a few picnic tables and grills. Changing rooms and restrooms. Usually with lifeguards and a snack bar. But oh that lake. Heaven!

I went cross country skiing in Sebago Lake State Park. Because there is not much snow right now, and not cold enough these days, the snow is not soft but icy. That means it is not ideal for cross country skiing, but still nice to be outside and do activity in the nature. The 4-mile loop is flat and easy even for beginners. The lake is not frozen at all and beautiful by reflecting the sun. Some people seem to come to walk around lake with dogs. It looks like not crowded at all in winter.

I absolutely love this park, wether it be the public beach and swimming area or the campground you can stay at, they're both excellent. We camp annually at the campground, each august and it just holds so much positive energy and great memories within our group. We set up in #206 every year and spend about four nights at the park. We kayak and swim and use our floats in the ocean- like waves. We kayak out to the sandbar and spend hours just lazily tossing about. We sun on the beach of the amazing witches cove and come night, hang by the awesome fire pits. The stars are something to see as well, since there is little light pollution over the second largest lake in Maine. The lake is so big we have yet to see all of its magic. Frye island is another magically part of the trip, if you can make it out there I'd suggest you do so. The ferry line cuts right through the bottle neck and it's really a sight to see. The water is crystal clear and freezes that way in the winter time as well. The bottom is sandy and a pure delight to walk on. We just really love the park. The extra parking does suck because it's quite a ways away but that's one negative out of tons of positives. We book the day the sight goes up for the year and 2 hours in that sight is sold out for the summer. I can't wait til August !!!

Picture it. Maine 2016. A car full of picnic supplies, beach gear, and sunscreen. Upon arrival you pay your entrance fee and take long drive through a dense Maine forest. When you get to the shore, you look out onto a vast body of fresh water and scenery that's epic enough for a postcard. You have arrived at Sebago Lake. The state park is part of the Maine State parks system and requires a fee for day use. I strongly suggest buying a state parks season pass if you are staying in Maine for any length of time and planning to repeatedly visit these beautiful, natural spots. During the summer the park has life guards on duty during the day and a snack shack that sells traditional lakeside fried foods (cash only). There are changing rooms and flush toilets, that's right, I said flush toilets with actual sinks. There are showers outside to rinse off after your swim. The water is clear, clean, brisk, and absolutely PERFECT. This is by far my favorite fresh water summer swimming spot, although I avoid this place on the weekends because of the potential crowds. My one gripe: **You CAN bring your dog to this park on leash, but they are NOT allowed on the beach or in the campground. These laws (which are not the norm in other parts of our country) make it impossible for me to give this park 5 stars. I travel with my pooch almost everywhere. She is well behaved, friendly, and on voice command. When I lived and hiked out west, I was able to travel with her without limits. Unfortunately, the East Coast rules aren't the same and you can not even camp at Sebago Lake Campground with a pet. She is the main reason I camp. My advice... enjoy the park for day use, but leave your furry friends at home.

This is my favorite place to spend a weekend (or more) camping. Enjoying the refreshing cool water and soaking up some sun on the warm sandy beach, watching the friendly wildlife scamper about, relaxing by the campfire with a cold drink under the bright star filled sky as the pine scented wood fills my lungs. Everything tastes better when cooked over and open flame or in wrapped in foil packets. The sites are vast and well maintained with plenty of woodline for privacy and stringing up tarps. The prices are cheap and have options for RV, tent or tent sites with electrcity and water. The check in and check out process is easy and the park rangers are very friendly. You can call or make reservations online. They offer family friendly movies once a week in their stone amiptheater. There are lots of walking trails to enjoy all the wonders of nature as well as a large playground. They have restrooms that are relatviely clean with hot showers. They have sinks for dishes and trash.

I'm sure this vessel sees a lot of use but it's condition speaks loudly to the lack of care or maintenance this marina gives their equipment. Boating should be fun and a special experience. It is neither in this boat. The steering has no assistance, the carpeting was continuously wet, the carpet looked to have mold growing on it and definitely had a distinct odor to it, the boat was over-powered per the posted Coast Guard rating, the horn didn't work, the captain chairs were uncomfortable and didn't stay in their "locked" position, and the upholstery in general was significantly worn and had holes in it. As the only boat rental marina on the lake their attitude towards their equipment and pricing speaks disappointingly loud. Thompson lake is a true beauty in a beautiful state. After this rental I feel this marina takes advantage of rather than supports the visiting water loving family. I will not return to this business. If you dare the risky waters thoroughly review your assumptions and ask MANY questions before committing.

Hadn't done anything except float on a towable tube, tube was flat. They were great at getting us set up and out the door, but when I went to try for a quick exchange it's like they flipped a switch. The valve was faulty and we took our boat from Frye through the locks to exchange for a day of tubing only to be told that it would be 24 hours to ensure it's a faulty valve to get a refund. Who has 24 hours when they've already wasted 2/3 of their trip. Ended up returning the tube and unopened rope. Would've been better off ordering off Amazon and getting free shipping on a tube. Probably would've gotten to us quicker as well. What a waste of a day ... but also I caution you because this god awful company was going to send us back out the door with faulty equipment.... Just dangerous. Great at selling you stuff, but don't trust them, and they are terrible when you have to return.

I am completely frustrated and dissatisfied with the customer service I have had with GND right from the beginning with my 1st purchase of the 2 pieces I bought in 2024. I actually looked around and sought out other dock companies before deciding that at least your company would have my original plans and dock design and it would be easier to assemble the next 2 sections I was buying, but I was WRONG. I had explained to you that I was having to tow this dock system across the lake and needed to have 2 floats on the floating piece. On the morning of delivery I was informed that there was only one float on both pieces. How did you really think that I was going to tow this setup across the lake with 1 float? Seriously? I had told you more than 1 time I needed 2 floats and it was probably on a phone call so it is not documented so it never happened You said to me that you can not attach floats to a dock that has not been set up to attach the floats, See pictures. I didn't have any problems attaching 3 floats to the pieces I just bought. I am totally screwed by your incompetence of YOUR customer service communication. I will NEVER Recommend your company and will only speak of my DISSATISFACTION of your integrity and lack of customer service Bruce S. Pierce
