So much so that if you say the word "walk" out loud, she will not rest until said walk has occurred. And, by not rest, I mean lots of bouncing around, hopping up on the couch to have her leash put on, whining - the whole nine yards. As such, we have walked many a places. The Westbrook River Walk is one of the best. While a big part of this is the convenience to our home, it is also just that it is a really nice walking path along the river and parks. The path, which alternates between wooden boardwalk and paved pathway, is perfect. The addition of the foot bridge crossing the river a couple years back was also really nice. And, there are several well positioned trash receptacles along the way, making for the clean up and deposit of her "waste" easy. All in all, this is the perfect post-work walk for my little four legged friend.

The waterfall at the one end is beautiful but unfortunately it is mostly blocked by the bridge! The majority of the walk goes behind softball and soccer fields so it isn't very scenic. I can't…read morebelieve the number of times I've driven by the corner of Bridgton Rd (Route 302) and Methodist Rd and never realized there was a little pull-off for a few cars. This is where the northern trailhead is, and apparently there are three other trailheads: across the street from Willow Drive, down further Methodist, and on Perry Court! I feel like no matter which way you enter this 5ish mile trail system in Westbrook, you're going to experience and see something different. Which leads me to what I love and what I loathe about this trail: I love that it feels like it's hidden in plain sight, I loathe that it's not a loop (I'm not a fan of in-and-out trails, I just want one continuous walking path, y'know?). I'm not sure how deep I made it before turning around, but I know there are fish viewing ponds to the north and to the south... because, fun fact, Mill Brook Preserve is also the home to the largest annual migration of alewife fish from Casco Bay to Highland Lake (best viewing time is mid May to early June)! I appreciated how well marked the trail was (and how it followed/hugged the brook the whole time; who doesn't love being surrounded by water sounds and enormous trees?! yes, you can hear the traffic at times, but I found the running water and birdsong to be much louder), and how there were some more challenging spots. I'd like to come back and enter from the south next time!

She stopped to asked the locals where to find moose and spoke endlessly about the types of trees in NH. No moose were spotted at all even after a desperate mosquito infested walk through the woods (yes, we had bug spray but it didn't make a difference). We were told "plan B" was to drive up and down the same highway at midnight to see if the moose were out. This was a surprise for my husbands birthday, It was a surprise for both of us! This was a complete waste of time and money.

Lucy met us in the morning and we went straight to the river. It was such a gorgeous and enjoyable ride and she was so pleasant and relaxed the whole way through. She gave us some simple tips on kayaking and also some nice information on some of the wildlife and history of the area. When we reached Lake Ossipee the wind was very strong which made the lake very choppy and her lead was so assuring in the challenge that lay ahead of us - she was awesome and we made it to the other side of the lake without any issues whatsoever. I would highly recommend Lucy if you want to experience a great day outdoors in the White Mountains

With so many amazing places to hike and walk nature trails and wooded paths in Maine, I'm not sure…read morethis is a spot I'd personally need to come back to (or even recommend you come out of your way to find). It seems this is more of a gem for hyperlocals (i.e. those that live within walking distance): plenty of folks here when I came midday, midweek walking their off-leash dogs with open containers, and loads of people on inflatable tubes in the Presumpscot River (note: the sound carries clear as day, so I could hear every single thing everyone in the river was saying... some of it pretty R-rated stuff, so maybe just be thoughtful if you're out there tubing). This is a one mile loop that goes up through the hemlock forest (note: many of the boarded planks to cross streams or muck were broken up here; see photos for proof), behind Great Falls Elementary School, then follows along the river (along the historic Cumberland/Oxford Canal Towpath). I came because I saw it was recommended as a shady hike good for summer, but it seems like a better spot to jump into the river (and there's Paddle Access to do so).

My goal is a trail that's light and easy for my grandpa pup and has some interesting sights. This preserve was nicely maintained and is short, only about a mile, but goes by two ponds and a section goes along the presumpscot river. There's a good portage for kayaking or tubing and the water is gentle. We found some frogs, which is always exciting. A little leaf peeping too! Wouldn't go out of the way for this, but if you're in the area, it's nice.

We were looking for a last minute kayaking trip and I couldn't have been happier with what we found. Definitely worth every penny. I called in the morning for a sunset tour and Piper was more than accommodating. Once we got to the place where we were going to start our trip, my friends and I were instantly greeted with a smile from Piper and Kevin. She let just my 5 friends do our own tour, and it was such a great experience the entire time. First, Piper offered to take pictures the whole ride out there, which was great! Next, she took us to this old WW1 building on its own island and let us explore for as long as we wanted. We all took our time on the ride back and were able to enjoy an incredible evening and a picture perfect sunset. Additionally, Piper couldn't have been more patient with us either. Not all of my friends were experienced and she took the time to make sure we were comfortable paddling and didn't rush us at all. She also gave us awesome food and drink places to go to at night! Overall, if you're in Portland and are looking for an awesome kayaking experience, you MUST use this company. It was such a fun experience. She also donates a portion of the fee to homeless LGBT youth, she's awesome! Again, it was the highlight of our trip and would absolutely recommend this company to anyone!
