The Sebastopol Senior Center is great. It's not only for seniors but their families as well. They have lots of resources to help with aging.

They have a regular following of loyal seniors in the recreation room . Where coffee is provided at a suggested donation .a small selection of books are also available with a check out honor system . A few of the local homeless tend to flock here for various reasons , a meal , conversation or to see if anyone has left over pastries or cookies or food from pot lucks etc . One of them has the cutest well behaved little Dog named Jake ! You may hear some colorful language from the pool players once in a while hear the best places to fish and get political views mixed in with a few military war stories and trips and travels around the globe . Thoughts on marriage , the world today or a free SMILE from Dave that carries a cutout from a cheerio box in his pocket and will flash it at anyone being grumpy or negative ; it's all part of the charm . They have a choral group, yoga and line dancing and a variety of special events and drop in classes at affordable rates . You save 50 cents a class by purchasing a senior center card and pre paying for sessions . Lunch is served at a suggested donation, seems like a lot of fish is cooked by the smell , I have never tried it . The senior age is 55 and up although most of the visitors seem to be 70 plus It would be nice if they added more outdoor seating and tables as well as maybe a bench and at least one umbrella because it can get very Hot inside and they have no AC .

There are more than a few offerings for seniors from daily classes which can be found in the Novato Park and Rec booklet. If senior want an adventure, they can choose from trips to gambling casinos and other road trips from several turn-styles located in the lobby. This is also the location to rent Novato owned locations like the Novato City Council Chambers. I was pleasantly surprised to talk to friendly staff and see free donuts for seniors. The lobby is a wonderful sitting area for people to gather and hang out. There is a smaller gym in the main building and several rooms for activities. There is also a library. A gift shop is located in a nook of the lobby that features handmade crafty objects and second-hand jewelry, and household items. I bought a few amazing pieces of jewelry. This is a little boutique of what looks like a consignment shop. Check it out before X-mas. I would recommend that you take a walk around the large playing field or take an inexpensive dance class through park and rec Novato.

For the rest of us who are approaching "over the hill," this center is a hub of activity and offers a surprising array of classes, programs, outings and educational opportunities. The center is run by the City of Novato Parks, Recreational and Community Services department, and, in addition to the kinds of things you might expect from a center for seniors (bridge, bingo and billiards, to mention a few), there are great exercise classes for the young at heart, numerous events that encourage social connections, and they even have a small cafe providing lunch several times a week. This place is a great source of activity if you prefer to stay busy and aren't ready to start acting your age.

I've seen a number of his works before at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, but several of the pieces on display today were new to me--such a treat to experience different works up close. The gift shop is small yet thoughtfully curated, featuring items inspired by the current exhibit along with creations by talented local artisans. Admission is very reasonable, and students receive discounted entry at just $10. Donations are also warmly welcomed and help support this wonderful community art space.

When I…read moreentered and asked about admission I was told entry is free, though they do also have a donation box. In addition to the small gallery of (mostly local) artists, they also had some art pieces for sale. I was impressed by the quality of the work and fell in love with several pieces on display. Most of the pieces were also for sale, though nothing I would consider inexpensive. It's art, so you'll have to decide how much you like something and if you want to purchase it. It also seems like non-local artists could display work here if they were a member of the center. Maybe I should look into it! Really nice place to stop for an hour or two. Highly recommend it.
