For small businesses, Wells Fargo has been the worst imaginable banking experience…read more We own several small businesses, including a low-risk medical services provider that has banked with Wells Fargo for five years. Despite paying merchant processing fees more than 165% higher than the alternative we ultimately found, Wells Fargo abruptly terminated our credit card processing in the middle of a business day, even rejecting payments that had already been authorized. We had to contact customers and reprocess their payments through a new processor. The reason? An internal Wells Fargo audit found they had failed to collect required documentation when our account was originally opened. We promptly submitted every document they requested--weeks before the deadline--and received verbal and written confirmation from our local branch that everything had been received and uploaded. Yet Merchant Services later claimed they never received the documents and refused to communicate with our relationship manager, customer service, or local branch staff to resolve the issue. Instead, they canceled our account on the deadline. When we escalated the matter, the executive team said they would investigate and respond...within a month! For a business suddenly unable to accept credit card payments, that response was unacceptable. The silver lining is that this experience led us to a new payment processor with substantially lower fees, better technology, and excellent customer service. We were accepting payments again the next business day. We are now moving all of our business and personal banking relationships away from Wells Fargo. Based on our experience, I cannot recommend Wells Fargo to any small business that depends on reliable payment processing and responsive customer support.

FFF supplied a confusing letter and an incorrect address for registering our house deed (the county…read morecourt sent our registered letter back to us), was unreachable by phone, and then provided an inexperienced new employee at their office when we went in for assistance. The employee was dressed in a pink T-shirt, pale skinny jeans, and white tennis shoes, which was appropriate to his level of knowledge and professionalism. He had to call the loan office, which is apparently off-site, twice because he (1) didn't listen carefully to our description of the situation, (2) didn't understand the situation, (3) didn't take any notes concerning our problem and questions, and (4) didn't pause before hanging up the phone the first time--or even the second time--to check with us to see if all our questions had been answered. He also didn't apologize for First Financial's initial error until late in our exchange, after all of his bumbling around created even more unanswered questions and frustration. Suggestions: (a) First Financial needs to review their mortgage pay-off letters and make sure all the information and instructions are clear and correct. (b) First Financial needs to better train its employees--first, to apologize for FFF errors; then to make sure they understand the problem and take notes; then to make sure they address each of those problems by consulting both the appropriate professional (if they don't have the knowledge themselves) and the customer. (c) Employees, especially young, inexperienced employees, should be advised to dress professionally. This will give customers more confidence in them, and it will remind the employees of their professional obligations and training. We're sorry to see the deterioration of service at First Financial from the time more than 30 years ago when we first opened our accounts. This last fiasco has weakened our confidence in the institution.

So I was feeling a little intimidated because of that but the two gentlemen I dealt with were helpful and didn't make me feel bad about not being able to figure it out. The first time I came in, it was about 10 minutes until they were supposed to close. The guy who helped me took me to his office where he patiently answered my questions and helped solve my problems. An African American man that was at the front desk helped me and my daughter on another occasion and then helped my spouse just yesterday. Their website is clear and fairly easy to access (except those things that can't be done online). Most of all, they were professional and accessible.
