This store seems super disorganized and nobody seems to know what's going on or where inventory is located. They were featuring a variety of truffle that they didn't even have in stock, and it took forever to find the different varieties under the counter to get the assortment I wanted. We were staying at the Blue Ox RV Park for a special construction job for my husband. He had an odd afternoon off due to a rare thunderstorm. We went into town and found a nice café, I wish I could remember the name, we had a nice lunch. It was small and I still wanted something sweet. We googled the nearest See's Candy and guess what? It was one block away. We went there and were given two samples each! Upon which we bought more than we intended to. We went back to the RV and made a delicious pot of decaf coffee and savored the remaining pieces of our See's Candy together as we watched a streamed WI-FI movie. The manager was lovely and kind and asked us all about where we were from and what we were doing in Salem. Definitely look into stopping in at See's on the Main Street area on Liberty St NE. You may have to drive around twice the block to find a parking spot. But you will find the staff friendly, warm, and inviting at the Salem See's Candy. As always a free piece of candy too! read more

Who doesn't love See's Candies? The quality of chocolate is top-notch. But what a strange little store they are located in, near Salem Center in what borders a less-fun downtown area. Sadly, they have to have a security guard seated just inside the door. It feels claustrophobic when there are more than a few customers in the store along with staff, but I will say that the security guard greets your warmly when you enter. I've been in there several times to buy boxes of chocolates for friends (for Easter, Mother's Day, birthdays) and had varying experiences. The first time, it was great. Was offered a sample, which was such a nice treat. The second time, two very loud obnoxious women rushed in the door ahead of me and sucked all the oxygen out of the room with an endless (loud) discussion about what to pick for their free sample and then practically needed an applauding audience to cheer on their purchase, while I quietly tried to get the remaining staff person who wasn't waiting on them to help me. She did, I got what I needed, and fled. I asked for a free sample and felt kind of dumb asking. Too small a space for all that commotion but the sales persons handled it with grace. The third time, a couple with two loud kids who were bouncing off the walls made a giant production of choosing which free samples for their kids (also giving those little darlings more sugar was an act of evil for wherever they were headed next). Could not get anyone to wait on me and fled. Returned later in the week and got what I needed. Was too polite to ask for a free sample although it would have been nice. Oh well. It's a nice clean store with tons of delicious options, but a bit small when overbearing other customers are also in there. read more

I love this place. In a city that is often regarded as the bland, soulless one of Oregon's major cities, I love that the See's Candies here is a stand alone shop. It's the only one of that kind I've ever seen, most others I've noticed are located within shopping malls or strip malls. I do realize the coziness of this location probably gets a little intense during busy times, however. Novelty aside, this location is always spotless, with super friendly and efficient staff. The quality of the chocolates is very high, and I always enjoy checking out the seasonal offerings and items not found in the standard boxes. They were limiting customers in this super small store to 5 at a time, which I think is smart. Each of the two doors were dedicated as either entrance or exit only. I was the only customer inside during my visit today, but I appreciate the adjustments. And the famous free chocolate is still given out; they ask you if you would prefer milk or dark chocolate and they set a prepackaged chocolate on top of your purchased items. I'm glad this tradition hasn't been suspended completely! A great little place for thoughtful gifts or to treat yourself! read more

The location of this See's Candies shope is close to the Salem Center Mall next to a T-Mobile store. Self parking options are street parking, private lots, or nearby garages. The staff are very helpful and personable. One of the staff, Gina, offered us a free piece of dark chocolate with coconut filling - high quality chocolate hands down :) She also assisted with complimentary gift wrapping to our purchases and informed upcoming new flavors. The location of this See's Candy store is on Liberty right across from Salem Center Mall. There is plenty of very conveniently close street parking stalls, both parallel stalls and head-in stalls, which makes it easy for moms like me who are usually towing more than one kid around town. The closer I can park, the more certain I am to get into the store and spend some money! The candy here is really good and we picked up a 3 pound box of nuts & chews and several pick & choose pieces of our favorites. The kids each grabbed up a bag of gold foil covered chocolate coins and made sure everyone in the store thought they were real pirates by repeatedly bellowing, "Arrghh, I'm a pirate!!". The woman behind the counter looked like she could be Mrs. See herself, a very sweet, jolly grandmotherly type who provided old time country service. You should not be in a hurry when you walk into this store. I had to leave my type A personality at the door and woo-sah, woo-sah to myself as I had time to create a grocery shopping list on my smart phone and review recipes as well. It was worth the wait, however, and we scored our free pieces of chocolate, completed our purchase and said our goodbyes and final Arrghhhs. read more

It was a sorry visit. It was the third plus week in March, 2023 when I went into the local See's store to purchase a gift of candy. I'm sorry I waited so long to visit this See's, located in downtown SALEM, OREGON. I'm sorry there were 3 clerks. I'm sorry that each one approached me, one after the other, to see what I wanted. I explained to each that I wanted to read the signs posted about the boxed candy before making a choice. I'm sorry that the 3rd sales associate refused to leave my side, standing shoulder to shoulder with me until I made a decision. Pressure tactic or just a Bully? I bought 2 boxes of candy, but no wrapping or bows these days. A bag was offered for a nickel, and I bought it. After all, it was raining outside. I stood in silent face to face with 'lady #3' at the completion of my transaction. It was like she'd be damned before she'd say another word, let alone offer me the free sample piece of candy. You can say SHE MADE ME ASK FOR IT. I'm sorry, I don't eat candy, but my 92 year old Mother waiting in the car could enjoy it. I'm sorry, I HAD TO ASK. Staff came in off the street without a mask. Stood right in my face while she dug in her purse. Then while I was paying, another staff brought another customer right up behind me. They are NOT safe distancing here. It all looked ok while I was waiting to get in, but as soon as the staff without the mask arrived, it was a free for all. I get my daughter a box every year for Christmas. I'll find a different candy store next year. The training here is inadequate. read more

Sees has the best chocolates, hands down! The staff are very friendly and attentive, and very helpful! This shop is smaller than other locations I've been to, but they do still have a great selection of candies. It can (and does, especially around holidays) get crowded inside. You can buy an assortment of chocolates already in a box, or you can make your own or buy individual chocolates. They will help each customer one at a time, so be prepared to wait in line for your turn. It's worth it, the staff are very polite and really helpful and even give you samples! TINY store and SLOW service and SLOW moving lines. I can't really blame the store itself because it was during christmas break (everyone was buying candy) and it just made the store even tinier. The line to check out (1 person checking out) was super slow. It seemed like I waited for 10 minutes (probably not actually 10 minutes) but it seemed slow. Again, its probably due to the space issue. Small little chocolate place. Came around 2pm and the rush slowly started to come in, next thing I know the line is 4 deep. I ended up getting pre assorted boxes.. making your custom box seems a bit annoying, and not to mention it holds up the line. They should some how do two lines, one for express pay and one for creating your own box of chocolates. I won't be eating these, I got them for my father. I did like my free sample; a caramel almond chocolate square. Be prepared to spend $$. Two pounds was $39.80. Cheaper than Godiva maybe, but I wonder if they make these in store, or ship them in? read more

The customer service is hit and miss at this location...some staff being really friendly -- and some acting as if being at Sees is the worst place on earth. Went in yesterday to buy Christmas present for 91 year-old who lives out-of-state. Selected individual candies that I thought she could chew. Paid for my purchase and was a happy camper. Got home and noticed it wasn't wrapped in the traditional See's wrapping paper. It was in an all white box with really tiny white embossed "See's" on it. Went back to the store and asked for it to be wrapped. They said they don't use wrapping paper anymore. Asked the clerk how a 91 year-old (or anyone with poor eyesight) would be able to tell it was from See's. She was able to put a Christmas "wrap" (outer decorated cardboard box) with the See's logo prominently displayed and even added a bow. Glad they resolved my issue. read more
