Behind the greenhouse, we had a delightful time listening to our instructors who clearly have worked side by side at the farm. Educational facts about herbs with a sprinkling of humor began the event. It is so wonderful to attend a class where they share their knowledge about the herbs and their uses. They give you salient advice that helps you decide on which herbs fit the taste profile you enjoy so you build your herb pot on what fits you. Then to top it all off they gave us a handout that covered trimming, drying and pairing herbs as well as a few recipes! A wonderful experience! Thank you for making my Mother's day extra special!

Well that came to mind for me this Thursday, when I stopped by the Lehigh Valley Home & Garden Center. My wife and I have been doing business there for over 20 years, it's always our 1st stop for gardening supplies, plants and flowers. As with most non-professionals, most of our purchases have been Spring to Early summer. During those timeframes, the staff has always been overly helpful and friendly. They listened to us carefuly, suggested products that would sute us best, even special ordered some from their Nursery for us when we were looking for something special. This past week I stopped by to get a replacemnt hanging basket and I was sure they would have a few when no one else had any. I was greeted with a warm welcome and a bit of humor. When I mentioned to one of the staff what I was looking for she immediately said "Oh! you always get the _____ in ____ for your hanging baskets - she was spot on and pointed a few out and as my hands were full with our new puppy "Tiffany", who the staff seemed to like more than me (kidding), she carried my collection to my car. This may not mean a lot to most, but it showed me once again the level of customer supposrt and kindness that has always been present to my wife and myself by the staff and management of the Lehigh Valley Home and Garden Center - they get a 5 out of 5 from these very happy clients. We opted to send a gift card to a friend that lost their son suddenly. Inside the gift shop were multiple flowers & memorial items which touched my heart . The plants were beautiful & healthy. We even found sympathy cards either a piece of artwork on them. Their prices are reasonable . We have shopped for flowers, vegetables & insect eggs such as praying mantis & soil. We will return in spring and purchase more plants . They are so healthy & thrive in our garden. My friend was thrilled to have the gift card & loves gardening ‍. As time went by, loads of rain over the years running down our steep walkway began to erode the ground underneath the walk. I called Horizon and they sent Dan Hinkle over to lift the bricks and rework the walk. He came quickly and beautifully repaired the walk like new. What BS. I ordered 6 bales of a high end potting soil. The price was great. I paid for the…read morepurchase and opted for in store pick-up. I received an email confirming the purchase and telling me where to pick it up. I then sent someone who works for me in a company vehicle to pick it up. He drove 90 minutes to their store. When he arrived, he was told that the item is only available as a delivery. Apparently they don't actually stock it but have it delivered from some warehouse or partner. I asked my employee to have the store call me. Crickets. They simply cancelled my order after telling my guy that it wasn't there. I then called the store and spoke to a young woman who blamed issue on the computer. No real apology. No attemp to make it right. Said I should order it online. Told me the manager would call me after the weekend. Not holding my breath. I checked online and the delivery would be an extra $140 making the product way more expensive than available on Amazon. I really do try to order from small companies instead of Amazon but this was insane. What they should have done was accepted that they messed up and shipped it without the shipping charge. The reality is they attracted my business by misleading about the real cost and intended to make up the difference with a shipping profit. Then they messed up the web site and got caught in their misrepresentation. My guy spent 4 hours, gasoline, and vehicle wear for no reason. I'll buy from Amazon next time.
