After finding Sekina through Groupon, I'm so sold on having her as my stylist. Don't be fooled by the fact that she's on Groupon! She doesn't do it because she's new to the game. She does it to get new faces into her studio since she's truly passionate about doing hair. Inside of the Phenix Salon Suites, her one chair studio is the perfect amount of intimate and cozy! I walked in with low expectations but reassured me over and over that I must let her know if I'm not pleased with the job. It's easier for her to fix a balayage then and there versus letting it sit for weeks. She gave me a textured lob and did my warm cinnamon brown balayage perfectly and it's the perfect color for fall. She is also super knowledgeable about products and introduced me to the amazing IGK Down & Dirty texture spray. She was able to tell me exactly what I needed to replicate the style she blowdried and curled for me. For once, I'm willing to take the time to style a masterpiece of a cut and color everyday since she took the time to teach me. I had a totally different experience and am upset. I traveled 30 minutes from Seal Beach to the busiest and most confusing part of Newport Blvd with no numbers and no sign because she was in an interior building in a huge shopping center. My Garmin GPS dumped me at 1635 and it was totally unclear what to do in huge traffic congestion. Frazzled and upset that she never warned me, a new customer that it was confusing and given explicit landmarks I called her and received the same repetitive non information from Sekina -she gave me the name of her building only. Couldn't find it, kept asking for landmarks, crying and stressed from looking for 15 minutes with no useful information from Sekina. Begged her for landmarks, there were many, but no just same repetition of the name of her non visual building. Finally found it, upset that she did not tell me the following:"make a right at the Vans sign, go until you hit Bev Mo and look directly across" all she had to say to me but no landmarks given just useless information. She refused to see me because I was upset. Never gave me good directions. Never considered that a new client needs good instructions, MASSIVELY confusing shopping center with no numbers and massively bad attitiude, not apologetic, stick up her--- and wasted 90 minutes of my day, stressed me out totally unneccessarily. I would give her a 0 star instead of 1 if possible. read more

I naturally have very curly frizzy hair. I wanted it to be extremely long and full so Sekina put extensions in. I'm super picky and I don't like fake looking extensions and she gave me extensions that look like real hair. People were asking how I got my hair to grow so long and were shocked when they found out it wasn't really all mine!! After my natural hair grew much longer we decided to remove my extensions and she gave me a Brazilian blowout and highlights and has made it look like spun silk. I'm not kidding.....it it so soft and bouncy .....the highlights are exactly what I asked for, And I'm one of those clients that's impossible to please because I see brassy in everything!! I purchased hair services through Groupon for "full highlights and cut" with Sekina B. at Phenix Salon in Costa Mesa. I didn't know what to expect, I just knew my roots had grown out and my style had no style left. Sekina was very thorough in her correspondence, texting and emailing me. When I met her, she asked me what I wanted and I brought in an older picture of myself with a style I liked. Sekina explained that I didn't really need a thorough highlight, but could use with something else (sorry, forgot what she said), but the price would be the same - $67. She was right. We talked the whole time. Note: It is important to get along with your stylest at this salon as they each have their own room. Sekina could not have been nicer and was very professional. I was very happy with my new color and cut. She "repaired" the bangs I had cut and said when they grow out to the point where they are bothering me, call her and she will cut them at no charge.
