For being so highly ranked, I can't seem to under how they can be so behind in technology and stuck in old ways of teaching. They send papers home with my child that has an important message and what happens... it gets lost in the backpack every time. They are so convinced that their "pull out program" from the regular classroom will fix all educational problems that any kid will encounter. Our kid was in it for a year and I noticed very little difference in the impact if the program. It is some how ranked very high on some website for charter schools, but it is not for every kid. It is sad that we had to switch schools cause we loved the teacher and our kid has been going the r e since pre k so she has a lot of friends there, however, as a parent I feel we have to do something to nip educational issues that I feel are there that the school is not addressing.

They are appreciative to the school for giving them a good foundation when it comes to math, reading, and writing.

The teachers have been their for years and each of my kids connect to each one of them. While most daycares say they are do preschool activities, Self Development's main focus is learning. My son loves talking about the centers and what he learned at different tables. The staff is wonderful. Even though my older too children have started school they still love going to the preschool for before and aftercare. The before an after care program really helps my family's schedule.

The faculty and staff members have all been great to work with and extremely open with communication when needed. We ran into a rough patch with our son at the end of 1st and beginning of 2nd grade with staying on task and completing work which was frustrating, but in working with Mrs. Salvatori (Principal) and Ms. Vernetta (Preschool Director/HR) we were able to work together to place him in a class with a teacher he absolutely adores (Mrs. Schaller, who he thankfully has again for 3rd) and he once again loves learning. Our daughter started kindergarten this year with Mrs. Haschke which has also been phenomenal! One other thing I need to add, especially after reading through some of the other reviews is that it's not just us (my husband and I) that love the Self Development family - our kids do as well. When the pandemic was at it's peak in sprint/summer of 2020, we kept the kids home for 6 weeks and every single morning they would get up and beg to go back and play with their friends because they missed them and the staff. It's not uncommon for our daughter to run to give the staff hugs or share her accomplishments in learning with them - and they help celebrate it! Seeing the smiles on our kids faces when we pick up/drop off each day reinforces our choice to trust Self Development Preschool/Academy with our little learners.

It is unfortunate to have to leave this review because graduation should be a positive and memorable experience for families. However, after attending our son's graduation last night, we left extremely concerned about the environment and overall organization of the event. When we arrived, we attempted to find seating in the bleachers as two parents simply hoping to watch our last child graduate from high school. Despite arriving hours before, we could not find even 2 seats together because large sections were being "saved" by individuals holding dozens of seats for extended family members who had not yet arrived and many never did. Leaving empty seats. Such a shame. This created unnecessary tension throughout the stands and contributed to an environment that grew increasingly hostile as the event approached. We personally witnessed, and were victims of, verbal confrontations, aggressive behavior, and foul language exchanged between attendees over seating disputes. What should have been a meaningful celebration instead became stressful and uncomfortable for many families. The poor behavior of these "adults" is on them, but the root cause is on RMHS. The presence of significant security and police staffing made it clear that the school anticipated potential problems. That alone should signal the need for a better preventative approach rather than relying primarily on security to respond "after" tensions escalate. Most of the other large schools have implemented systems that reduce conflict and improve safety, and RMHS should strongly consider similar measures. Possible solutions could include: * Reserved or ticketed seating for "immediate" family * Clearly designated overflow seating for extended family and guests * Policies limiting or eliminating large-scale seat saving No parent should struggle to find 2 seats to watch their child graduate because of avoidable crowd management issues. The good news is there is time to improve this before the class of 2027 takes the field. I sincerely hope RMHS takes the concerns raised by multiple families seriously and works proactively to create a safer, more organized, and more positive experience moving forward. You do not have the luxury to bury your head in the sand now. Change your mindset and be proactive instead of reactive. You, the administration, tout that safety of your RMHS community is a top priority, it's time to walk the walk.

The Biotechnology Academy, located off of Harris and 8th Avenue, has remodeled what was previously…read moreknown as the Land Lab but has the new name as the Outdoor Research Facility (ORF). This Outdoor Research Facility if complete with a 96X30 ft green house, two 12X12X4 fire brick Turkey Pits, a chicken pin, and an Aquaculture building complete with a tool shed, garage and finally the Tissue Culture room. Out of the ORF, the Tissue Culture room is what I am reviewing as a spectacular location to take a tour of. Maybe you could spread the word since visitors, especially involved in science, come to the center to learn new things. Maybe mention us? WHAT IS TISSUE CULTURING? Tissue Culturing is defined as: The technique or process of keeping tissue alive and growing in a culture medium (Dictionary). There are plenty of different tissues that are cultured and can be cultured, but the Biotech Academy focuses on plant based tissue culturing. The reasoning behind this is to enhance the science portion of agriculture, and is used to propagate plants under sterile conditions, often to produce clones of a plant. Different techniques in plant tissue culture can offer certain advantages over traditional methods of propagation. (Aaron Hicks) WHY TISSUE CULTURE? * To produce an exact copy of a plant(s) that produce amazing flowers, fruits, or have other traits that are desirable. * To produce mature plants quickly and more efficiently. * To produce multiples of plants in the absence of seeds or necessary pollinators to produce the correct seeds. * To regenerate a whole plant(s) from plant cells that have been genetically modified. * To produce plants in sterile containers that allows them to be moved with greatly reduced chances of transmitting diseases, pests, and pathogens. * To produce plants from seeds that have a very low chance of germinating and growing, like orchids. (Aaron Hicks) WHY IS THIS COOL FOR VISITORS? The Tissue Culturing room would be an amazing experience for visitors to come see, because the idea of cloning is an amazing concept. The general population finds that having the ability to "clone" is a new technology, and has such potential. This assumption is correct, but there is so much more to tissue culturing than that. With this tour, children, students and adults alike, will have the ability to learn how to tissue culture themselves right at home! The processes in which are taken to create a tissue culture of any plant can be simple, yet complex and difficult at the same time. With the tissue culture room in the ORF, there is an explanation to everything, and the supplies for tissue culturing are presented in an orderly fashion. There are tons of examples of all kinds of tissue cultures. For example, as a graduate of the Biotechnology Academy, I have at least twenty different examples and types of cultures that have been created. My samples range from African Violets, Orchids and Potato nodes to banana plants, bird of Paradise and orange tree. The Tissue Culturing room itself is equip with everything that's needed to be presented. There are Laminar flow hoods, which keep contaminated air out as you work, gloves, ethanol, bleach, tweezers, scalpels, plants, heat blocks, magnetized spinners, and all the media that will be needed. I rate this section of the ORF as a solid 5 stars. Its educational, fun, and interesting.
