Located along Fifth Avenue across from Rockefeller Center, we walked up to a structure that immediately stands out with its towering Gothic Revival architecture. Once inside, the atmosphere became noticeably quieter, the kind of shift that makes you slow down and appreciate both the history and craftsmanship of the building without the noise of Midtown filtering through. The interior is just as impressive as the exterior. We spent time moving through the space, taking in the soaring ceilings, detailed stonework, stained glass windows, and rows of arches that create a beautiful setting drawing attention in every direction. We found ourselves spending more time walking through the cathedral than we originally expected because there were so many architectural details and smaller chapels to admire. Even without visiting for religious reasons, the artistry and design made the stop feel intentional rather than just a quick look inside. Despite welcoming a large number of visitors each day, the cathedral still maintains a peaceful atmosphere. People naturally speak more quietly, and it never felt overly chaotic during our visit. It is an active place of worship, so being respectful of those attending Mass or spending time in prayer while exploring the cathedral is important. Admission to enter the main cathedral is free, making it one of the easiest historic landmarks to visit while exploring Midtown Manhattan. If you are interested in learning more about the building's history and areas that are not normally accessible, guided tours are also available, but simply walking through the main sanctuary is worthwhile on its own. The contrast between the peaceful interior and the energy of Midtown Manhattan made the visit memorable, and the architecture alone makes it one of the city's most impressive landmarks.

There are a couple of…read moresikh temples in New York/New Jersey mainly in Queens, Long Island and suburbs.But for people in Manhattan there was no option prior to Manhattan Sikh Association. So three years back couple of folks got together and formed the association with a motto to set up a place of prayer for Sikhs in Manhattan. Though this is not a traditional gurudwara which is open all seven days of week, but they try to have gatherings(Diwans) thrice a month to have the prayer session. It is a very intimate gathering with less than 100 people unlike other big Gurudwaras. I really like the ambience of the place and it is a place which gives peace to my soul. As always people from all faiths and religions are welcomed here and free food is served during all the gatherings. They always update the upcoming gathering dates on the website (www.manhattansikhassociation.org/ ).

I'm not sure where my other photos went but wanted to post a little about this temple…read more This seems like a hub for a lot of the locals and elders in the neighborhood. The woman that's always at the counter, with a very outgoing personality, seems to know everyone that walks in there! The times that I've gone in, I've noticed different folks cleaning up, adding more incense sticks to the holders, fixing the fruit and flowers, sweeping the floor, adding a bottle of beer to the statue praying area, LOL. I'm not sure if they are official members, I don't get the sense that they were working on that day, more like passing by. But it's nice to see this communal effort and comfortable in the space. It's mostly a Cantonese speaking crowd, but I heard another dialect spoken on a recent visit. The woman at the counter probably has working knowledge in Mandarin too. I am not an expert, but when I go, it's usually for the Chinese New Year & my fortune, or to pay respects to elders that have passed. Every little slot that you see at each offering area - that's where you make donation. At the front of the area, there is a table top pedestal filled with a little slips of yellow paper, individually bundled by a rubber band. Donate $1 and pick a fortune. The next 2 tables have candle flames, bundles of incense sticks. Take 3 incense and light them, take them & bow 3x's at the 3rd table & stick them into the pot of sand. At the back there's padded low benches for you to kneel, bow 3 times, and pay respect. Another slot under the statue to make a donation, which may benefit your future. There's containers of Guan Yin Sticks. You can take one and kneel back down in front of the statue. Gently shake it, hold with both hands, hold it at an angle and shake with a gentle chopping motion. A stick should fall out. You want 3 sticks to fall out individually, write down the number in the order that they fell out. That's your Guan Yin Lot, look up your fortune according to those numbers. If relates to your health, wealth, big transactions, relationships, energy (more or less), ability to make large decisions. The front part of the temple has a lot of boxes of souvenirs & gifts to dig through. Lots of bracelets, which are prettier than the tourist shops on Mott St. Cash Only! There's boxes of free books and the front windows are filled with different little statues, objects, and bodhisattva statues. I can't say that I am an expert, but this is the way I've experienced the temple. The last time that I went, the lady at the counter was talking really loudly with some folks, it was actually a little distracting while I was in the back. Overall, this is the temple in the area that I'm familiar with, and choose to go to.

The way Daoism or Taoism works is everything lives in harmony and balance. You know the Ying Yang symbol? That is part of Daoism, from what I understand. That things exist in harmony, man and woman, earth and water, your back with your front. Yin and yang are always opposite and equal qualities. When one reaches its peak, it will without fail begin to transform into the opposite: for example, when a seed is planted in the spring, it reaches its bloom in the summer (yang) and then produce more seeds and die in winter (yin). This is an endless cycle and it happens again and again. The way I see it, yin and yang means the opposites to me. In our world yin and yang exist together as parts of a mutual whole. This is Taoism to me, I think. So taking the stuff above.....if I write review that is good, the gods is going to smile at me...if I write a bad review.....I might as well say bye to everyone now! 5 stars for peace and harmony in my world!

All Souls Unitarian Church is historic in Manhattan. If you look up their history you'll see the…read morenames of many famous people. I attended for 2-3 years. I moved farther away and it became difficult to attend the service. The service is non-denominational. The music is beautiful and the sermons are moving. You get an education hearing them each week. They have classes, groups to attend, they go on outings. Every Sunday after service they have pastry, coffee/tea in the meeting hall. The church is always clean. The grounds are beautiful as well as inside the sanctuary. They feed the homeless and needy in the hall twice a week. The parishioners serve the food that is prepared on premises as far as I know. They also take collection each week of non-perishable items for the food bank. I've brought cereal and canned goods on many occasion. If you enjoy a dynamic sermon and a well organized religious institution you will not be disappointed. I enjoyed the time I spent attending the services. I still get the Daily Meditation by email. You can sign up on their web site. The daily inspirational quote makes my day.
