Disappointing Stay - Poor Sleep Due to Constant Noise, Faulty Heater, and No Real Compensation…read more We checked into The Adventure Hotel in Nelson on January 10, 2026, and checked out the next morning after a very frustrating night. Upon returning to our room in the evening, we discovered the TV wasn't working at all, so no chance to relax and unwind as planned. The real issue was the lack of sleep. The wall-mounted heater/cooling unit produced a loud, intermittent buzzing noise that went on all night - impossible to ignore. The floors were extremely creaky; even walking to the bathroom woke up my partner every time. To top it off, around 4 a.m., someone in the room above us started moving furniture or chairs, creating even more disruptive banging. When checking out, I politely explained the issues to the front desk staff and mentioned I hadn't slept at all due to the constant noise. I was hoping for some goodwill, like a significant discount or a future credit, but all we received was a generic apology and a note that the room would be added to the repair list. They also mentioned we could have called for a room change (they had availability), but who wants to pack up in the middle of the night, move, and try to settle back in just to get a few hours of rest? We've stayed at the Hume Hotel several times and always had excellent, quiet, comfortable experiences there. We decided to try the Adventure Hotel this time for a change, but it was a big mistake. The location is central, but the noise issues made it impossible to recommend. If you're a light sleeper, I'd steer clear and stick with more reliable options like the Hume. Would not stay here again. 1/5 stars.

Riverview Motel is a great place to stop for a night or two for a clean room when touring this part of Northeast Washington. Beautiful scenery that is right along the Pend Oreille River (pronounced Pond Oray) on the International Selkirk Loop. Motel rooms include a good sized small fridge/freezer, toaster oven and microwave and coffee maker and nice flat screen tv with lots of channels. They have guest laundry facilities too, so a great place to stop and clean up a bit if you're on an extended tour. Tip: request one of the "end" rooms that has a view of the Pend Oreille river. (there are two view rooms and well worth the extra $10) you get a view of the river and a deck with a small outdoor table and two chairs. Its nothing fancy but it is very clean and very well maintained. There isn't much in the way of food offered in the town of Ione which is why this motel is great. They provide two BBQ grills for guest use and the rooms are outfitted for you to bring in your own food for a short stay. Grab some frozen-delight dinner from the grocery store in Ione and grill/microwave whatever you need. They have one covered picnic table on the edge of the parking lot overlooking the river. Lots of wildlife, trees and fresh air along this scenic highway route, (This weekend we saw a moose with calf, black bear and turkeys!) In the past, we've seen fox, brown bear, whitetail deer, elk and tons of turkeys. The Lions Club runs a scenic railway tour and Boundary Dam is very interesting to visit. We chose to meet up in Castlegar, where one family lives; we wanted a place to gather, eat, talk, play and generally hang out, as well as enjoying some local parks. One family member came on his motorcycle on a cross-country trip, others in a long car trip, one flew in to Castlegar, and another in an RV parked adjacent to our trailer. This worked very well for us. Kim was very helpful and kind; didn't end up talking to Wylie. The place is tidy, clean and well kept, with lovely flowers adding charm. I didn't use the laundry or common bathroom/shower facilities. We made some delicious meals that we shared on the covered deck, kids ran around and rode bikes on the grounds, dog hung out in the RV and on the deck (not allowed inside the trailer) and used the pet relief area. Garbage/recycling was well contained in sheds. Close to town for groceries and restaurants. Other campers/occupants were quiet and friendly. Overall, happy to spend our family time together in this place!

I stayed here before, as it's inexpensive and fit my need for a place to sleep while enjoying the area. This time the place was different. First of all, there were thousands of mosquitoes, due to the high water in the area. No control was used at all, and upon entering our room, the swarm came inside. My friend received 35 bites the first night, and a few more the second. In back of the motel was a ditch running towards the highway full of gray water. It appeared they were having issues with the septic tank/sewer. Upon entering the shower, the water smelled enough like rotten eggs to make me retch. That smell stayed on my body all day. The second day I didn't shower. The first 10 minutes we were there the toilet plugged and we were offered a plunger to fix and clean up the over run toilet. On the morning we left, I had been up all night with diarrhea, so we were didn't stop at the office. When I called and ask to speak with the manager..they said she would have to call me back. She never did. This was in 4th of July, and all other motels were booked. We were 90 miles from other services. I would not recommend this motel at all. Could be pleasant if effort was applied..none was offered. Shame !!

I was there to ride my Triumph Tiger motorcycle on the many deep forest roads, while my daughter tended to business in the area. The best thing is the room we had was fantastically clean. The bathroom passed my daughters inspections with flying colors! That's a first! The beds felt new. Room had microwave, refrigerator, flat screen TV and dish network TV. You want a good clean place to stay, this is it. Also, very quiet. Mostly workers from the Mine or Box Canyon Dam or Boundary Dam on temporary assignments. So they are in bed early and up early, then off to work. Management was very friendly and knowledgeable about area. I was impressed, and it's hard to impress me. A 20 second walk then you're down on the river. If I ever need to be in the area again this is where I'm going to stay for sure.
