It's very wide, and it was windy on that bridge the day I was there. I also saw that people put all kinds of locks on this bridge, not sure what that means. Casual, and we were able to buy alcohol at a bar near the start dock and bring with us. Our guide, Cody, was a treasure. She also does stand up comedy in the evenings in town, and was throwing out barbs, especially when she found we were from the 2025-26 National Championship home of College Football!

Centennial Land Run Monument -- An Impressive Piece of Oklahoma History…read more Even with Oklahoma temperatures flirting with all-time highs, I wasn't going to let the heat stop me from visiting the Centennial Land Run Monument! And I'm glad I didn't. This is a fantastic tribute to Oklahoma and the historic Land Run of 1889. The sheer size and detail of the bronze sculptures are impressive. Horses, wagons, riders and families are captured in motion, giving you a real sense of the excitement and chaos that must have surrounded that day. The monument features 45 larger-than-life bronze figures created by Oklahoma artist Paul Moore, and seeing them up close gives you a much better appreciation for the scale and craftsmanship involved. (Visit Oklahoma City) There was one advantage to visiting during the brutal Oklahoma heat -- hardly anyone else was there! I practically had the monument to myself and was able to walk around, take my time and get some really great photos without crowds. It's outdoors, open year-round and completely free, making this an easy stop if you're visiting Bricktown or exploring Oklahoma City. On a quiet weekday morning, the Centennial Land Run Monument feels almost cinematic. All that…read morebronze motion is frozen in a moment of time along the Bricktown Canal. The whole installation commemorates the Land Run of 1889, when settlers surged into the Unassigned Lands to stake homesteads in what would become Oklahoma Territory. The scale of the installation here is enormous, with dozens of figures charging forward. Horses stretched mid-stride, wagons tilting, every dace carved with urgency. One has clearly fallen in their haste. It really does tell the tale. We had the place mostly to ourselves which made it easy to slow and take in the detail. The only interruption was a family who decided the clearly posted "no climbing" sign was more of a suggestion than a rule and that's why we can't have nice things. Grrr! But even that didn't take away from the artistry. Paul Moore spent more than twenty years bringing this to life and the result is one of the largest bronze sculpture installations in the world, honoring the settlers who raced out on April 22, 1889. This is certainly one of the better Capitol tours that I've been on, and we've visited somewhere…read morearound 20 other state capitols in the past. First, the logistics - this capitol is quite visible from the surrounding Oklahoma City area, so there's no doubt about how to find the building. Also, there is quite a bit of available parking in the south visitor's lot, with great picture access to the front of the capitol, and easy access to the visitors' entrance on the Southeast ground floor entrance. They run walk up tours at 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., and other organized tours as needed. We were able to enter the capitol just before 1:00 p.m., and met Rick the tour guide who was already prepared with a sign making it obvious where the tour would begin. The building itself is one of the larger capitol buildings, and much of it has been renovated over the past decade or so. There's a lot of marble, lots of Oklahoma themed artwork, tributes to those who have been involved in developing Oklahoma's government, a museum, and an art gallery. We got to see the entire building including the legislative floor, along with the offices of the Executive branch. We saw the Supreme Court entrance of its former location, now it's located across the parking lot from the capitol. Rick was a terrific tour guide, offering valuable insights and answering all questions. While he could have taken the five of us who were on the tour and paired us up with a tour of school-aged children who were also visiting at the same time, he invested the time to take the five of us separately, giving us a more appropriately themed tour to our interests. Very well done program, and much appreciated.

We did the 1 o'clock free guided tour with Rick today and it was very informative. We started in the old barn, where both employees & several volunteers were there to give us a quick run down of the family & what to expect. Then, we were led to the house & given the opportunity to explore! Each room is opulent with painted ceilings, ritzy carpets & very fancy furniture from the late 1800s. The history is amazing & was so fun to learn about. The volunteers were wonderful & knew a LOT of great facts. We LOVED our time & are hoping to return around Christmas.

I've now visited the Oklahoma City National Memorial three times, and it still hits just as hard as…read morethe first visit. This is more than just a memorial -- it's a deeply moving tribute that honors the lives lost, the survivors, and the heroes of that tragic day. The outdoor memorial is beautifully designed and incredibly peaceful. The Field of Empty Chairs, the reflecting pool, the Survivor Tree, and the "gates of time" create such a solemn and respectful atmosphere. Every detail feels intentional and meaningful. Even on a return visit, walking through the site brings a heavy but important emotional impact that stays with you. The indoor museum is also excellent -- well-organized, informative, and respectful. Whether it's your first time or your third, this place leaves a lasting impression. It's educational, reflective, and incredibly well-maintained. If you're anywhere near Oklahoma City, do yourself a favor and make time to visit. It's one of the most powerful memorials I've ever been to.

I had friends that both survived and were killed in this bombing, so, coming here is sad (the loss and tragedy), comforting (the remembrance and celebration of life), angering (the lack of empathy and remorse that several people were involved in purposely killing on such a scale--intentionally parking the vehicle borne explosive next to the daycare), and hopeful (the victims and families will be remembered in love for generations to come). I have more ties to this event than what will be mentioned here, but I am glad I took the time to go back. I wont wait so long for my next return. Its a must visit! It shows the power God has to bring people together through tragedy. The Oklahoma standard.

It was installed by the University and is not part of the Oklahoma Historical Society program. The marker is on two sides. On the front, "This boulevard was named in honor of David L. Boren, the 13th President of the University of Oklahoma by the University of Oklahoma Board of Regents to mark the 10th anniversary of his presidency. Prior to becoming President of the University of Oklahoma, Borne served as Governor of Oklahoma and as a U.S. Senator. He is the first person in state history to have served the state in all three positions. He spent nearly three decades in elective politics, including 8 years in the state legislature. From Oklahoma to Washington, Boren carried a commitment to reform, including campaign finance reform, lobbying reform, open meetings laws, and increased competitive bidding on public projects. When Bored left the U.S. Senate in 1994 to become President of OU, he had an approval rating of 91 percent after being reelected with 83 percent of the vote in 1990, the highest percentage in the nation in a U.S. Senate contest in that election year. Boren grew up in Seminole, Oklahoma where he was a highs school debater. He graduated from Yale University in 1963 in the top 1% of his class and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He was selected as a Rhodes Scholar and earned a master's degree in politics, philosophy and economics from Oxford University, England, in 1965. He received a law degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1968" On the reverse, "where he received the Bledsoe Prize as the outstanding graduate by a vote of the faculty. At OU, Boren created many new major programs including the establishment of the Honors College, a new freshman writing program, an interdisciplinary religious studies program and new programs in international studies. The number of new facilities built on the campus during the Boren years matched the explosion in new programs. Major new garden areas were also created on OU's campuses under the leadership of First Lady Molly Shi Boren. Boren led the effort to establish the Research Campus and to position the University as a major force for the development of research and intellectual property to transform the state's economy. The first two buildings on the Research Campus were the National Weather Center and the Stephenson Research and Technology Center. In the first 10 years of Boren's presidency, endowed professorships more than quadrupled, the OU donor base grew from from 18,000 to more than 92,000 and over $1 billion in private gifts were received. Above all, the Boren years are marked by President Boren's emphasis on putting students first."
