First time visitor and won't be back. Went to the course for my first time ever after practicing at the driving range. Was going pretty well, let a few groups play through as it was my first time, and still learning. Took about 2 hours for the first 9 hole (also as a female they had no bathrooms or porter potties on the front nine, they said at the club house it's cause it was early in the season and it usually gets vandalized). On hole #9 this guy and young kid came up and said "y'all might want to play faster, there are a few groups behind you" we let him know it was my first time and that we were playing as fast as we could, but he said "just try and play a little faster" and left. He didn't see the 3 college kids behind us that were playing before we had even been half way through the hole, and were playing around to the point that they were throwing balls at each other. I stopped playing the 9th hole cause I felt like I was being rushed and over whelmed. We went on the the "back side" final 9 holes, to which there was only one group that we ever saw behind us. Again, it was my first time, but I felt like I couldn't take my time and get my drive right, because I didn't know if the guy would come around again. I would also like to say, I'm not horrible, beginner that even hit a par 3 on the 16th hole. We finished 18 holes in about 4 hours. When I turned in the keys I told them how bad it made me feel that they would come by and say this us, and he said the timeframe we finished the first 9 hole was average. I asked him why they would do that and he said, it wasn't common but able other guy said that we must have been taking to long and it's common that they do that. I again told him about the college kids playing around and not carrying about anyone else. I told them that I'd leave this review, so it shouldn't be shocking to management, because as a first time visitor that felt very unsettling because we were running about the average time that it would take. When it comes to golf courses I have a higher expectation of how the maintenance of the course should be, as my cousin actually designs and maintains them in various courses on the east coast. This course looked about the same as the side of the highways does, muddy, choppy, and brown. Also better signs with directions to the different holes would do the course some good. Again the female aspect, girls like golf or are wanting to learn it. Not all the female tee off areas were well marked either and again, the bathroom issue as well. One of the better maintained municipal courses I've played. You get what you pay for. They clubhouse is older but the staff is very nice. This is a very popular course locally due to the prices. Played an early afternoon on a Thursday, and it cost me 25 bucks for 9 with a cart. I enjoy playing here and especially when it's not packed. Nice local course. read more

Seneca Golf Course - Number 2 - Golf Near Me - Louisville, Kentucky

Terrible golf experience, start to finish. I booked a 4:54pm tee time for 18 holes on a Sunday. At most courses I can easily play a round in 3.5-4.5 hours. The clubhouse staff was rude, short, and snobby and never mentioned playing 18 holes at that time would be impossible. The course was way overbooked and they let a group of 5 players go directly in front of us. We finished our front 9 holes right at 8:00pm and just went home. A 6:15 pace for 18 holes?!?! Never again. Everywhere we looked, golfers were sitting in carts waiting on the group in front of them. No one was monitoring groupings or pace of play. For a course that's so stingy about many other things, this is a huge oversight. The course itself is in horrible condition too. The rough is more like a meadow - good luck finding your ball. The fairways were shaggy and overgrown. Greens were all divoted and choppy. The tee boxes were so overgrown that in some spots my ball was teed up and still touching grass. I'm confused why so many people come out to play this course. It's not well maintained and you wait 7-10 minutes between shots while the 3 groups behind you wait for your shot. I learned my lesson after one visit and won't be back. read more

Not too bad for a municipal golf course with lots of folks playing golf, at many levels of ability. The prices are great and the staff easy to work with in a very minimal clubhouse. The course itself can be very unforgiving, and if you're a first timer like me when you tee off here then try and play with someone who knows the layout. I found this especially a problem on the front 9 where many blind tee shots combine with little hole information on the scorecard set me up in bad position for 2nd shots. Overall the back 9 seemed more open and visible to me, but the greens seemed slower and more 'bumpy.' The Par 3s on the course are demanding! From the Whites the shortest was a slight uphill 151 yards and the rest were playing 180-200 yards. The Par 4s on the course are fair, but most played longer than marked yardage and many demand uphill approach shots. The Par 5s on the course played as true Par 5s for me, but I'm not the type of guy that likes to hit fairway metals, or even hybrids, into greens. Big hitters may have better chances than I did! It's not the greatest, but far from the worst and I'll be back. read more

Nothing like being three holes in, moving at a decent speed and then having some geek pull up and give you the ultimatum of either pairing up with the duo behind you or starting your round over. As a beginner who is still learning the game, joining another group only serves to slow that group down. I do enjoy the course and all. But I'll probably just take my business somewhere else that will leave me alone as I try to learn this wonderful game. read more

Best muni in town. Fairways are usually in great shape and greens are good too. Not August perfect, but as nice as many other more expensive places around. Great layout too. Pace of play can be slow (last 3 Saturday morning rounds were 4-1/2 hours, but that's muni golf, I suppose. All in all, one of my favorite courses in the Louisville area. read more

When the weather gets cold, I like to think about things I will do when the weather is warm! Included in that is heading to Seneca Golf Course. I'm not a great golfer, but -- thankfully -- it's a sport I can continue to work on well into my golden years. In Louisville we have a wonderful system of metro parks to help us enjoy the outdoors when the temperatures are out of the single digits. If I don't have much time, but want to spend a half hour or so outside, I work on my driving and chipping/putting. It's easy to pull up to the clubhouse at Seneca and pay for a bucket of golf balls. The first half is used to practice driving, usually with a 3-iron, unless I'm feeling capable and coordinated, in which case I might venture to use a wood. Once I start to get worse, and get T'd off with my teeing off, I'll head over to the putting green. Arms like a pendulum, I try hard not to break my wrists as I aim for a hole in one putt. And I may round things out with some chipping, although I've never been very good at putting a perfect arc on my golf ball as I try and launch it out of the sandpit and up onto the green. In any case, I always find that a few minutes at Seneca are the perfect way to close out a long summer's day. Just don't forget the mosquito repellant! read more

I was looking at reviews on Yelp about this place and all I saw was some bad rating and a few good but I'm here to tell you this course is very pure! Greens rolled well and the blue tees where very fun to play from! Purest grass on tee boxes and fairways. Definitely will be coming back sometime to play with wonder golf course. Great Muni with the fairways in good shape. They keep the speed of play at a good pace.

The course is fairly nice and has a decent layout except for a couple odd holes. The biggest problem is they just ram as many groups as they can on with no concern for the course getting clogged up. If you are OK with a 5 hour round then it's worth a try. read more

If I could give zero I would. We showed up and the first thing we got was the Pro/Owner questioned us to no end about being a "bachelor party" and we where a normal 4 some. Harassment from the get go about if we brought our own alcohol. The ranger followed us around for half the first nine. (Which took just over 4 hours to play because they booked so many tee times) I truly hope this review hurts your sales. You all suck. read more

"Play at Seneca, it will be FUN!" they said. WRONG. Don't do it. I have played there numerous times only because I live around the corner. Every time I say, "it will be better this time". NOPE. They stagger their tee times 8 minutes apart. Really?! It takes 8 minutes for 4 people to tee off and then get to their balls. If you enjoy waiting on every shot then this is the course for you. Set aside 7 hours if you are trying to play 18 holes, and don't even think about sneaking a cooler onto the cart, they WILL take it from you. Staff sucks, food sucks, couldn't even get onions for my crappy hot dog. Really? no onions? geez. You are better off playing at Crescent Hill. You could land a B-52 bomber on their first fairway. I only play 8 or 10 rounds of golf a year, but with my travels, have been fortunate to play some of the best courses in the world. I have some natural talents for golf, but not my first choice of activity. In any case, I do prefer public courses - believe in what they stand for, especially with the legions of elitist private courses in the United States. Well, at least before I tried the Seneca course. Just not all that well laid out, managed or kept up. Sort of feels like a beginners course. I found the management to be somewhat snobby, perhaps they have been fired from private courses and carry a chip on their shoulders. If visiting Louisville, there's much better courses to catch a round on. If you live in Louisville, have some respect for your game. read more

WISH I COULD GIVE A ZERO. literally downloaded Yelp because of my terrible experience at Seneca golf course. DOES NOT TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS FAIRLY. Scheduled for a 2 some, upon the first hole another 2 some allowed us to hit ahead of them because (We assumed they were just a twosome ahead).Us in the fairway,the 2 some started yelling at us saying they will hit into us. Us confused,waited on the next tee to ask why it was all the sudden an issue we played ahead. They said "that's Seneca policy, we are supposed to play in foresome, so if you all decide not to then we will hit into you all day". Baffled by this comment we offered them to play ahead. After them bantering and cussing about how they new policy and how "we thought we were above the system" and other childish behavior like trying to place a bet on who could hit it further. After offering many times to just end the conversation and banter to just play ahead of us and be done with it. We told them we would not hit into them because we are respectful of others play. SENECA NEVER TOLD US WE WERE PAIRED WITH ANOTHER 2. But a partly according to them we were paired with them and seneca apparently told them that but not us. Again. "that's not how things work, you gotta play with us or we will hit you". The 2some called Seneca staff over. This staff member gave us two options, (without understanding the situation or harassment we had gotten front the other group) to either play with them or to get a rain check. After talking more they finally understood how we were not at fault but The other 2some was NEVER confronted by staff about the situation. I have long been a regular player at Seneca Golf Course for a reason, and that reason is that this course is an extremely enjoyable golf course to play. It is also an excellent value for the paying customer. This relatively lengthy course tests every club in the player's bag, and has a good mix of forgiving and challenging holes. The facility also has a great driving range, as well as a nice little short-game area. Seneca can certainly be busy at times on weekend afternoons, but there is a reason for that. The green fees are cheap, and the course is a legitimate test of golf. In addition, the pace of play on weekend afternoons can sometimes be pretty slow, but this is simply because it is a city course where players of all types of skills levels go to play -- i.e. families, beginners, and newcomers. Attempting to go to this course without a tee time during a weekend afternoon in peak season is not suggested. I highly suggest planning to play here in advance, and calling ahead a few days in advance to secure a morning tee time. This is what I do regularly. The pace of play on the course during weekend mornings is almost always fast. It is very common for a foursome with AM tee times to get around the course in just under 4 hours. Seneca Golf Course, in my opinion, is truly a municipal golf gem. It will not blow you away with anything, but it is also a really good facility that has what it takes to satisfy those true golfers who just want to play a quality round or put in a good practice session -- all at a cheap price..
