In the past year I have returned home with a terrible hair cut because none of the 3 hair stylists understood my hair. They didn't have the time to! If you can get a stylist who will stick by you for a few years, then I'm sure Aquilibrium will be a great place to go. However, based on my recent experiences they have turned away a loyal customer. Additionally, she was cold and didn't say a word to me. Even when I tried to engage her in conversation she was very short. It was like trying to squeeze water from a rock. I expected…read moreto come in for a relaxing hair appointment and come out feeling great and instead I got stressed and so upset I left basically in tears. I first made a hair cut appointment with Kimi last Friday, who did a nice job with my cut. I liked how she did the layering. I also made a hair colour appointment on Tuesday with Laura. I wanted to do a dark purple tint and had a bit of balayage from my last hair colour. I came with a pic of my ideal colour and said I didn't need it to be vibrant..just a tint where I can see purple would be fine. I was aware if I wanted it more vibrant I would have to bleach and make another longer appointment. So we agreed to just put dye over my old balayage. However, this is when my experience turned sour. I arrived after commuting well over 1hr by uber to salon. Only to find out that their water is not working. They said they only found out a bit over 10 minutes before my appointment so they did not call me. I was not too happy but understood that things happen and they did offer to uber me to their Rosedale location or reschedule and comp my appointment. I still really wanted to get the hair dye though. So they just dyed and hair dried in uptown salon but washed my hair at the blo bar salon nearby. When I was getting my hair dried I discovered that my hair is much more red than purple. Horrified, I wanted to get it redone. It was more burgundy than purple with a lot more red tones to it. Laura failed to tell me that my hair had warm undertones already in it and that it would bring out more red in my hair. I was not prepared to see so much red. I rescheduled with Rachel to get a hair toner or gloss. She explained about the warm undertone and said if she added blue toner or gloss it might tone out the reds but she would not be sure how it would turn out. She was super nice about it but her uncertainty made me change my mind and not do it. She was sorry I was so disappointed about the colour and just recommended I wait till it fades and do a colour correction at cost. So now I have paid for a hair colour I dont want and need to spend more money to get it fixed. Like it is not a hideous colour but it is not want I wanted or paid for. So everytime I look in the mirror I get upset. Overall, I have never been so disappointed after a hair appointment. I wanted to feel nice and left feeling upset. There was also another person at reception who was not that friendly either. She had brown hair tied up in a bun and wore glasses. She kind of gave me some curt looks and responses. Even Laura was there and saw me but did not even say anything to me. Side note, a collegue of mine was suppose to see Laura for a hair cut but the client she had before had to get their hair fixed due to a mistake Laura made and my coworker was left waiting for 40 minutes after her appointment time. She ended up being passed over to a higher up staff member. Just very unimpressed. I do not recommend Laura. If you go to this location anyways, try Rachel or Kimi UPDATE - After calling the salon, I was offered a full refund, which was very appreciated. However, I don't think I will return anytime soon. I feel like they could have dealt with my situation better. Everytime I think of this location it now just brings back bad memories.

What wasn't expected was this time I'd be leaving with an Edward Scissorhands hack job. She has some skill but not consistent, apparently. I went back to get this resolved/adjusted but I strongly feel the onus was placed on me to make suggestions as to how to address the stylist's fail which resulted in a missing chunk of hair at my face and top layers 2 inches shorter than what we'd - mutually - decided on and a massive disconnect. The best practice would have been to consult the salon owners to give a second opinion when I came back, given she knew I was coming in with a problem. They do extensions at that salon and that could have been offered for what would have amounted to a small insert and not a free head of supermodel hair. Given I'm stuck with hours of additional work at my end amounting to more time out of my day and money on styling products the latter could have also been offered. My bangs were uneven and she couldn't even correct that minor imbalance without screwing up. The salon owner called to discuss which unfortunately was a complete defence of the stylist and lack of client respect. Apparently my getting a refund was supposed to be enough which hardly accommodates the months of dealing with a crappy service. Sure the salon comment will be something like "not a good fit" "miscommunication" as per my conversation with the owner or a suggestion I go elsewhere. I'm ahead of them on the last point.

During the shampoo there was a little head massage which I thought was an awesome touch. Both times I was really happy with the result and excited to show off my new hair. It's worth mentioning that the vibe of this salon is one of the best I've experienced. Everyone I spoke with was friendly, you feel welcomed coming in, clients seem at ease and happy. I know that a cut doesn't include styling, but my stylist was so rushed that she only dried my hair about 50% of the way, and didn't bother to brush the hair clippings off my face or ask me if I was satisfied with the result before she walked away to the cash register. I quickly picked the hair clippings off my own face while she waited for me up front. The other staff person at the front told me my hair looked great, which seemed pretty insincere considering I looked like I had just been electrocuted or through a tornado. I am sharing my experience to ensure that there is accountability for the poor service I received and because I feel there were ongoing issues with clarity and consistency in communication throughout the booking and consultation process. Before my consultation, I contacted the salon to confirm whether they could accommodate my hair type and whether ongoing appointments, including Saturdays, would be available. I was told that this would be possible, and I was also referred to a stylist. Based on this information, I proceeded to book and attend an in-person consultation. At the consultation, I attended in good faith, having planned my schedule and travel around what had been communicated to me. During the appointment, I was asked additional questions about my hair history and products. the owner indeed ordered me to carry out specific tasks including contacting my previous hair stylist in Nova Scotia to ask her about the hair dye, sending her photos of my products. I took the time to follow up after the consultation with the information requested, as I wanted to ensure I was being thorough and cooperative with what the salon needed. During the consultation itself, Visjna chaged her mind and said we cannot take you on Saturdays despite having already greed to do so prior to my consultation. So there was discussion about possible alternative appointment times, and I was given the impression that arrangements could be worked out if I was flexible with scheduling. I responded by being flexible and open to different days in order to make the booking work, even though this required me to adjust my original expectations. I accepted Wednesday, her suggestion However, after all of this, I was later informed that the salon would not be taking me on as a client. This decision came after I had already attended the consultation, provided additional requested information, and adjusted my availability based on what had been discussed. This made the overall experience feel inconsistent, as the information I was given initially and during the consultation did not align with the final outcome. My main concern is not that a salon may decide not to take on a client, as I understand that capacity and suitability can be factors in any business. My concern is that the communication leading up to that decision was not clear or consistent, which resulted in me investing time, travel, and effort based on expectations that later changed. After I shared my experience, I received a response from the salon suggesting that my review that my review was harming their reputation and questioning my intent in leaving feedback publicly. I found this framing concerning, as my review was intended to describe my experience factually with the communication process, not to attack the salon or its staff personally. I believe clients should be able to share feedback about inconsistency in communication and expectations without that feedback being interpreted as an attempt to harm a business. Overall, the salon lacks professionalism, respect for clients time, and poor and disrespectful attitude towards clients hair types ands tyles.
