I love my nail tech in White Plains so much- I wish I could clone her so she can deliver the same expertise and care in my neck of the woods. Keep dreaming, Mercedes. Keep dreaming. Beauty Depot on Wall St in Kingston, NY doesn't scream like the place where you can relax and be pampered- but they were able to fit me in on a Sunday with Lexie. My pedi session with her kicked off the usual polish removal, filling, etc. who turned out to be super patient, unhurried and smooth with her hands. For my regular, short-length nails, Lexie provided essential nail+cuticle care, lotion massage, a hot towel wrap and nail polish application. I'm not one to bitch about money when it comes to any of my beauty regimen- but the $50 for both my mani+pedi here- in this trendy side of Kingston is more than what I paid while living in White Plains. Plus theres no attention to detail and it's unkept. Whether it's a facial I'm getting, massage or whathaveyou, I'm not paying just for the end result, I'm paying for the experience- which I didn't get at Beauty D.

I had been growing out my hair for 3 yrs and decided it was now too long. during this time I've had consistent trims/shape, but since moving I didn't think I could physically make the 1+ hr drive to my old salon bc I'm also physically disabled. I now regret this completely as it would have been less physically painful for me to endure the longer trip than to be going through what I am now. first, she took another client DURING MY APPT. WOW. as for the length, I asked for asymmetry (longer to the front). I warned her that my shrinkage is A LOT & she assured me she understood what I wanted, yet my hair is completely blunt, with no face framing layers. I showed her a reference photo of MYSELF, my own curls, from a little less than 2 yrs ago as a point I wanted to return to. I should have run screaming when she started using a comb on my dry hair, then began twisting tight sections which she would then cut into at an angle in multiple points to "create texture". SHE NEVER HAD MY PERMISSION OR CONSENT to completely change my hair texture, which she did. I even specified the way I style my hair is for DEFINITION, and the way she cut into it has completely destroyed my once perfect spiral curl pattern. I used to get asked if my hair was done by a curling iron or if it was a wig, now it looks absolutely horrible. you can see the after pics as well as a pic of my hair from 3 wks ago. I am completely traumatized by this experience and on my way home I ordered hair clips and even shears to try and salvage this atrocity, but there's no way to go backwards to before she completely chopped at my hair WITHOUT EVEN ASKING ME if that was what I wanted. when I left the salon, I did act like everything was fine, mostly because I still didn't know just how bad it was until I styled it myself, because SHE didn't style it. I was hoping it was just these products my hair disliked, or the humidity today, or my anxiety... I wanted to be wrong. I also thought she seemed genuinely nice and I didn't want to jump to the conclusion I already knew in my gut. when I told her how much I hated it, she eventually offered me a refund after saying I should just let it "grow out". she texted me confirmation of the refund, at which point I sent her the included photos of my hair after styling it normally (). I pressed further about the "added texture", why she would do that, and how can I fix it? she then proceeded to severely gaslight me, claiming my hair texture had probably just changed due to new products or diet, even though I covered both those topics when I was explaining what I wanted from this haircut. it was at this point I let her know what I really thought about her as a stylist and a person after she showed her true colors. the way I was treated was unbelievably horrible and I unfortunately won't soon forget it. I can usually only afford a 2x/yr cut, so for me it's always a big deal that I look forward to, after this I will never again visit a new salon, and I may never go to ANY hairdresser ever again. Cynthia truly did not listen to ANYTHING I said, and I was so nervous and focusing so hard on trying to "act normal" (which she of COURSE brought up to shame me further), that I didn't speak up or just leave when I should have. at first I thought this was just a mistake or a bad day, but after her response via text & lying response, I KNOW she maliciously chopped my hair & is hiding behind having "excellent reviews" as a way to escape the accountability, bc apparently I'm the only one to EVER be unhappy, ever. I am literally so completely devastated over this entire experience, I already know her response will just be more humiliation & deflection, as if a refund could fix it. DON'T MAKE THE MISTAKE I DID by trusting this salon. I can see Yelp has the ACCURATE records of this salon and from now on I will ALWAYS check Yelp too! I plan to follow up by suing Cynthia, she deserves it!

Zero Stars - Absolutely Disastrous Experience…read more I am beyond dissatisfied with my recent visit to Artisan Beauty. I had an appointment with Jessica, but upon arrival, I was not informed she was unavailable,/not there and my service was actually done by Abby, who I did not book with but since she didn't introduce herself I assumed she was Jessica. Abby was only a year out of school and had minimal experience. I intentionally avoided scheduling with her on the booking site due to her limited expertise, bait and switch. WTF. From the outset, Abby did not introduce herself or communicate with me effectively. During the haircut, it became evident that she was in over her head. I was informed midway through that I was her "first live bob," which immediately raised concerns. The result was a jagged, uneven haircut--particularly noticeable with one side much shorter than the other. When I asked about the back of my hair, I was shocked to hear that Abby had "left it" uncut, prompting me to ask, "Did you even cut the back?" She responded, "No, do you want me to?" At that point, I should have stopped the service altogether. I walked out without paying for the service, as I was appalled by the state of my hair. To make matters worse, Eden, the owner, was dismissive and condescending when I sought assistance. She insisted the cut was "fine" and downplayed my very real frustration. She'd fix it but if this is fine to her, no way was I letting her chop off more and making this nightmare worse. I am now left with a haircut that requires immediate correction from another stylist, and I'll be forced to wear a hat until it can be fixed. This experience was truly unacceptable, and I strongly advise anyone considering this salon to think twice. I fully expect a defensive, unprofessional response to this review from the owner, but I'm sharing my experience in hopes of preventing others from facing the same disappointment. Editing to say: after washing my hair twice, there is still terrible chemical smell that I can only compare to that 80's perm smell that I am old enough to remember what that smells like. I went with some friends to check out what sort of wig selection was at Toni's Wig Connection. I am…read morean avid wig collector and figured it was time to add a new one to the collection. I walked into Toni's and was underwhelmed by the selection. Mostly very average and out dated styles in a variety of shades of brown. She says she can order any of the wig styles, but when I asked about the few I tried on, she said those were ones she couldn't get in the color I wanted (which was blonde, so it's not too out of the box). She was very pushy about my friends and I buying wigs and she even started ringing us out and writings reciepts for us before we were fully committed to buying anything. She would tell us wigs we liked didn't look good and really try and push wigs we wernt into that cost more money. On top of it all, she tried to push a hair piece on a friend of mine with thinning hair. The friend wasn't into it, but Toni kept pushing even when we said we had to leave. NOT TO MENTION her pet guinea pig bit me. Over all, the experience was uncomfortable and unpleasant and I wound up leaving with a wig I only sortof like. I definitely suggest going elsewhere if possible.
