We've been loyal customers for over 12 years and have always appreciated the charm and warmth your store offers. Unfortunately, this visit was quite the opposite. My husband--just a week out from emergency surgery--was on his first short outing. We were both wearing masks for medical reasons. While that shouldn't matter, the staff member behind the register treated us with clear hostility from the moment we walked in. I greeted her politely, but she responded with an eye roll and a visibly unwelcoming attitude after looking at my mask first. That is ableism. Before my husband even entered the store, she abruptly and rudely asked, "Um, is that a service dog?" I answered honestly that our dog was not. Rather than calmly explaining store policy, she became increasingly short and vague. When I asked for clarification--since we've previously visited with our dog after receiving permission--she abruptly mentioned the health department had "just been in," and seemed flustered when it became clear we were unaware of any new policy. The tone throughout was dismissive, confrontational, and deeply unprofessional. Others in the store appeared just as surprised. It wasn't just about the dog; it felt discriminatory and ableist. We were simply trying to enjoy a brief outing and pick up a gift, but left feeling disrespected and unwelcome. This experience does not reflect the Shepherdstown community or the reputation your store has built over the years. Thank you for taking the time to read this. It's one of those stores where you walk intending to browse but inevitably find something you love that you just have to take home with you. creme de la creme is a little hard to describe; I guess I'd call it a home goods and decor store. They sell candles, rugs, art, and various items of decor. The merchandise is of really high quality. On this past visit (I'd been in one before, too), I found a rug that just called to me. I had to have it. The store is beautiful (and festive around the holidays), and the service is so friendly and helpful. Definitely one of the many stores worth visiting in historic Frederick!

I recommend that THOSE customers leave their bags (& any customers with large bags) leave them in their car. They used to make you do that. It would help to deter the thieves that come into your store with those bags, smell candles, stuff them in those bags (probably brought in for this very purpose), wander the store with their FAkE MasK on and then roll out... (with your merch.) to a car literally right in front of your store. Seriously!! Was she gonna pay for that ??? Nope. She didn't--. I hate paying for other people's crap-- in the form of higher prices.

The whole thing honestly could take you 15 mins. You can either wait 2 hours to pick it up or pick it up on another day. It's a cute candle with a lovely scent but unsure if it's worth the $40 overall. Of note, when I picked up my candle it looked cracked and the wax was all over the wick. Unsure if it got jostled when it was being set out to dry.

I watched as he was stalked around the store and stared down by both employees. My boyfriend and I both look white meanwhile my brother is a traditional looking Hispanic teenage boy.
