Chinook location used to be my favorite. I used to go in there once a week to fuel my makeup buying addiction. Ihave cut back since Covid. I still spend thousands a year at sephora; this location markedly. However,it seems you can no longer Tryon anything ever. Whenever I go to clean snd try anything on, one or 2 girls run over in a panic telling me I can't use the mirrors. Last time I asked if can just never use them as I'm not buying anything new without seeing if it matches and I was told yes the mirrors are only for "make up artusts" and only they can put the makeup on me. Markwtmall location doesn't act like this ever. And if this is the case, I will be buying 10 lipsticks and mostly likely returning 7 rverytime I come in. So dumb. read more

Sephora, it's always too hot, too busy and the staff are almost always not very helpful. I usually I send my sister who buys a lot of make up from here to go for me to pick up the products I need which today was the Nars foundation. I've been to the market mall location and have had no issues but I pretty much know what I need and get in and out relatively fast. I needed to pick up a shirt for my son from a retailer that only had this shirt at a store here and I was completely out of said foundation and needed to pick up a blush as well so I went in. Waited in line for a few minutes, was told to come in while the staff member who was at the door was clearly busy with another girl and I was told to use their sanitizer before proceeding, which I did. I knew exactly which foundation I needed and had an idea of the blush I needed. Got the foundation on my own and all was great, just needed to get the blush and asked an employee to compare the colour for me as the one I was looking for was not available- we found one that was relatively close to the one I brought with me, and she took the sample and let me compare for myself. I accidentally touched the product when I was comparing my blush to theirs and she scolded me saying I'm not allowed to touch the product! That was news to me because directly behind me there were girls trying bronzer and no one said anything to them when I BARELY and accidentally touched the blush as I was comparing shades! She goes on to say that none of the testers are to be used and that when I came in that's what they tell us! First of all, NOBODY told me that when I came in but they did make an effort to tell me that I needed to use their sanitizer which I did, secondly why hand me the tester then? Third, if no one is supposed to use the testers then why are they all out and people were clearly testing them?! I understand with the covid situation that using products after people is a risk and if that is the case then perhaps remove all testers and don't allow people to touch ANY of the merchandise! I saw the same two girls who were trying bronzers touch mascaras and eyeshadow pallets and no one batted an eye. By that rationale they contaminated those products too and they were not removed but we were all forced to sanitize before walking in so on the flip side their hands would have been clean anyway, no? I didn't think anything of it...either way I DIDN'T TEST THE PRODUCT! I barely touched it and got major attitude. She removed the blush after I put it back and I assume she tossed it because I went back to pick up a different shade after seeing it in a different light and it was gone. If Sephora is concerned with public health, maybe remove all testers or have staff members with swabs available to let the customers try them?...they had several team members on the floor all milling around looking busy but doing anything, one staff member actually opened up a product and let the girls look at it and they both touched it and decided they didn't want it and she put it back in the box and on the shelf! How is that safe and protecting the next person who buys it!? I don't know if that staff member has been regularly washing or sanitizing her hands so how is her touching it safe? If I'm spending upwards of $60 on a foundation and another $30+ on a blush and we can't touch the product then why have the staff member hand it to me and then flip out when I BARELY touched it with my sanitized hands? And why was the other staff member allowing those other girls to touch products out of a box? Clearly they have not streamlined their safety practices and it's still way to busy in there capacity wise. Get your crap together Sephora Chinook. The only thing that was great about the experience was the girl at the check out counter, she was super sweet and offered me my birthday bonus that I didn't pick up due to the covid shut down. To the girl who scolded me for an honest mistake, with the awful attitude and hair to match, maybe take it down a notch, you sell make up in the mall and appear to be too old to be working there anyway. The Wal-Mart mom pants and worn out top doesn't reflect the Sephora brand. Hard pass, not shopping at this store again. read more

I go to Sephora because they have the best products at even prices of a department store, plus you get beauty insider points. However, usually I feel very judged when I go in here. I don't slap on make up heavy but I have my few go to's which keeps me coming back. There's A LOT of employees here but a few times they are hard to find when you need one. I've had a few girls be super helpful, lots of samples etc, then some are terrible and don't want to help at all. As for beauty insider points, they need to get better gifts to exchange your points for. I have so many because it's never worth it. Treat everyone the same, get employees that are willing to help everyone and I'd have nothing to complain about. read more

I will never forgive Sephora for choosing to pay the Chinese gov't to torture animals (aka "test" their products on animals) just so they can make more money by selling there. They also misinform their own staff and trick them into believing their products are cruelty free. I have heard great things about Sephora and although I don't wear much makeup on a daily basis I thought I would just check it out for curiosity's sake. One of the yelpers mentioned it was like entering a candy store, and if you are into makeup it sure is. Every makeup designer can be found here, from pencils to foundations, from brushes to perfumes. The sales people were identifiable in this location as they all walked around with mike headsets. I thought I was at a CIA convention or a Janet Jackson concert. But nonetheless these teched up folks were amiable and were definitely there to serve you. I was mostly impressed with the range of selection for us "coloured gals"; sometimes range is limited in other make-up stores and here not only do they do actual coding on your skin, you also have three or four brands you can choose from. Our server had on a very natural make up, that made her look fresh and appealing. She was also extremely down to earth and authentically enthusiastic in finding me what I wanted. I was looking for a foundation that wasn't too pricey but that was also a moisturizer and used natural products. She found me a natural tinted moisturising foundation that also protects me from the sun. It was a perfect blend for my complexion, it evened out my skin tone but it also looked like I had nothing on. Perfect! When I compared prices to Shoppers Drug Mart, I found prices at Sephora comparable and even a tad bit cheaper. Good news is, that this store isn't just for women either it can be a candy store for those Metro sexual men out there as well. read more

A couple of nights ago I wandered into Sephora. Like MAC, Sephora is a place that I'll purposely avoid going into because it is IMPOSSIBLE for me to leave sans-bag. I guess my mischievous voice had the best of me that day though because I didn't think twice before stepping inside. As always, I was thoroughly impressed with Sephora's selection. Plus just in time for the holiday season, they've introduced 'roller-ons' which are your favourite perfumes packaged in a roller stick. So you can just pop it in your purse and reapply when necessary. I was intrigued by them and a lovely Sephora worker, Erin, came by to assist me. Erin explained to me that at Sephora, they are all about giving their clients the product to take home and sample, so she suggested that I pick out 3 of my favourite fragrances and she would package them up for me as take-home samples. She did exactly that and for the first time EVER, I left a Sephora store with ONLY samples!!! I found Erin to not only be knowledgeable and helpful, but honest and extremely courteous. Sephora is already da shit, but people like Erin just make it that much better! read more

As a beauty supplies and cosmetics addict, I am self-banned from Sephora (but I always go back. It knows I love it). I always get the free gift from the Sephora Beauty Insiders card because I have a problem which is that it is full of beautiful, wonderful products that I often did not yet know existed. There is your standard makeup - Sephora brand typically being both the cheapest and most colourful but with plenty to look at or drool over from Nars, Two-face, etc. Want Shu Uemura? - you can find some of that here. I do love that stuff, but I have so much makeup that I don't use I can often resist. A girl only needs so many eyeshadows, especially when her routine is "natural". The Kat Von D palette's have some great neutrals though. Yeah. The selection of brushes, makeup bags and general cosmetic accessories is wonderful. They have a million little gadgets that you don't really need but would make your life so much better... But even then, I know that I don't need a stainless steel pimple popper. I'll live. For me, the true danger lies in the skin care and hair care sections. I have curly hair and problemish skin, and I am a sucker for things that say they will a) make my hair pretty and shiny or b) make my skin perfect. Just because I know in my head doesn't mean that I know in my heart. When the friendly salesladies come and give me the spiel on how the $70 moisturizer was made by scientists and caviar and baby farts and will make you smooth and glowing, I'm sold. I bought my GHD hair straightener from Sephora. I think that right there epitomizes my suckerness. It speaks straight to my weaknesses. The Fekkai hair stuff is fabulous, and right beside the scientific looking skincare. Next thing I know I'm out wayyyyy more than I should be. The perfume selection is decent, but I've got perfume to last. So I'll be ok. Just know, if you're a sucker or a beauty products addict: STAY AWAY. Sephora is a great place to go as long as you have an EXACT idea of what you want... I went there a couple of times just to browse and you get ATTACKED by staff Every. Single. Time. You TURN AROUND. Seriously, if I want to ask a question about a brand of makeup or product I will ask you... just stand there in the middle of the store and be quiet!!!! "Have you been helped?" "Are you being helped" "Do you need any help?"... no go back to the middle of the store! When you're looking for a certain colour or brand though... Any Sephora I have visited around the world is a girly girls' dream store. It is very easy to get lost in every possible shade of eyeshadow, lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, nail polish you could think of...perfume, hair products, skin care, specialty items...the list goes on. It is very easy to spend A LOT of money here! This is my go-to spot for make-up, as they carry top brands such as Benefit, Smashbox, Urban Decay, Nars and more. Very helpful staff - on a recent visit, I was trying to match an eyeshadow from an Urban Decay Naked palette, and the associate was immediately able to find me one that matched exactly. If I've wanted to try any products before buying, they are happy to give you samples. The Beauty Insider program is also fantastic! Rack up the points for free goodies!!! read more

Between Edmonton and Calgary, the Chinook center has the worst customer service - I have been there on numerous occasions. The employees need an attitude adjustment and most of resting bitch face. If you have RBF, that is fine but when it shows in your attitude, perhaps you shouldn't be in the service industry. Went today to ask for a product - I basically prompted the employee to call the other stores to see if they had it. she asked me do you want to call or me to call (reluctantly), then i saw her gossiping about me to her friend/employee who starting staring at me and faking a smile because they were gossiping about me before me stepping closer in their field of vision. Sephora needs to do a course on customer service or regularly have secret shoppers to rate their customer service. read more

She will help you to the max find what you are looking for and generally cares for your needs. She really does know her stuff and will send you home with samples so you can feel confident in a buying a product. It'scome to this location espesually when she is working! She gave me a facial and set me up with a skincare regiment that was perfect for my age and skin type. She didn't try to sell me products I didn't need or that were unsuitable for my age and skin type. She helped me discover the amazing Dior products and seemed like she genuinely cared about my skin, myself, and keeping me trendy like the 22 year old I am. Basically I could be giving them one star, but I was so impressed that I can't! I made an appointment to get my makeup done for grad, when I got there they didn't have anyone to do me. (I should have figured because the girl who booked me kind of just threw my name down on a crossed off box) They were super professional and no one was like "uh sorry" they just said they were "running behind" and found someone to help me once she had finished her other appointment. Soo, my appointment was at 3, I got there around 3:10 (oops) and they started around 3:45. I had one girl 'prep' my face, and she would always ask what I wanted, liked, if she could use her fingers, etc. then my makeup artist came. Super nice, super professional and really listened to me. Always asked my opinion, which I would rather, and when I was like "uh I have no idea!" She had great advice. They also aren't allowed to do the waterline or curl your lashes so you do t yourself, a little weird but I'm glad cause I have super sensitive eyes and easy to pinch lids. The application took just under a hour, and I LOVED it. So different for me, but I felt like it was truly what I pictured/wanted which rarely happens. Lasted all night, and it only costs a $50 gift card!!! Which I used to buy the lip stain she used and the false eyelashes. (Both which I love so much) The application (cheesily) inspired me to try new things and put more effort it because I do love a made up face!! Also sephora will let your return even used items which is amazing!!! And they are all knowledgable, friendly and accommodating! I won't be using drug store makeup anymore! read more

I absolutely dislike this location. I've been a Rouge member for a couple of years and I'm very familiar with almost all the Sephora branches in Calgary. Let's just say whenever I see Sephora at the mall, I gravitate towards that place. Custom makeover experience: I got my 45 minute makeup done here for the first time this past summer and I was not impressed at all. I was so turned off that I told everyone I knew about my experience. Just for the record, I've had my makeup done at the South Centre branch a few times with no issues. The lady that did my makeup was 15 minutes late, and she sounded very unwelcoming and cold the entire time she was doing my makeup. It seems like I was wasting her time whenever I asked questions about the products she was using or other makeup related things. She asked what look I wanted, and I said everyday look, which I thought meant subtle natural look. Apparently that's not what everyday meant to her because I came out looking like a clown going clubbing. I'm not even exaggerating at all. One of the questions I asked was if she recommends bb cream or foundation for everyday and she told me "foundation." I also asked her where I should put my bronzer/contour and she said above my temples. Makes absolutely no sense. When I got home, I wiped off my makeup and found out that the foundation colour she used was 3-4x darker than my regular skin tone and she even encouraged me to purchase the foundation, good thing I decided to hold off on purchasing anything at the time. Customer service: This was the last draw. I came here a couple times in the past month just to see if my views would change. Unfortunately not, which is why I'm writing this long review. When I came here the last two times, I was looking at foundation colours and seeing if I can find my colour. I had zero luck getting help from any customer service associate. The worst part was, they were standing beside me (all 3 or 4 of them) gossiping about something when it was extremely obvious that I needed help and wanted their attention. I looked confused on purpose so they could ask, I even looked around and tried to look for help, but they looked away. It was honestly unbelievable. I love Sephora but I would not encourage anyone to visit this location. Unless you want to be treated like crap, then go right ahead. read more

I prefer smaller stores to 'superstores', beauty or otherwise, but if I'm going to shop at Sephora (because really, they do have some cool stuff) it's going to be at the Market Mall location. I just find the service there less abrasive. A reviewer before me mentioned being attacked by sales staff, and I have found either this is true x1000 or I don't get helped at all. I don't think there's ever been a happy medium. I recently had some friends visiting from a Sephora-less town who loved the store though, mostly because of the tokidoki products. Maybe it is just me, but especially in a store this size, it is nice to be able to wander and take everything in - offers for help are usually much appreciated but there is such a thing as overkill. I did buy an Ojon dry shampoo here once that is pretty awesome, though. read more

I go to this Sephora all the time and a couple of days ago I went to get a foundation. now I have never worn foundation in the past so I decided to try something new. I was looking through the different products and a store employee asked me if I wanted to get color matched and so I took the opportunity and got it. the store employee called someone over to help me and she took me to the booth where you can get makeovers. she proceeded to be very rude and judgmental, she treated me like I was 7 years old and she didn't talk at all. so after I went and got the product I like the best which was the tarte, rainforest of the sea in the shade light honey. I got home that evening and I wanted to show my sister so I took it out of the box and noticed that some of the writing on the packaging was worn off, so I didn't think anything of it but that should have been the first red flag. then I go to shake it and it sounds like straight water is in the bottle. I hold it up to the light and it's not even one-third full. so I'm like ok this is weird, I open the bottle and put some on the back of my hand and i notice that there are pigment chunks in the basically water foundation. the foundation just looked like water with some tan chunks in it. I have never had an experience like this at Sephora and now I am going to make sure that I test the product before I buy it and I encourage you to do the same. read more

I was looking around and was approached by a young lady named Ray. I have come into the Sephora numerous time and have had to beg for the service that I required BUT not this time! Ray took into consideration everything I said in regards to skin type, made recommendations, and even gave me samples of items they were currently out stock. I went in looking for 1 maybe 2 items and ended up leaving with 6 items and 2 samples. The sales did not seem forced as she gained knowledge but simply asking me questions. I have never been so upset with customer service at sephora before. I walked into sephora expecting service that I usually get at other sephora locations, which is the best friendly & helpful advice about makeup & other products. The girls are usually soooo helpful and willing to customize recommendations according to me, not just showing me the highest price product. I have super oily skin and large pores. And I thought I could count on sephoras ladies to help me find a great cleanser/primer/foundation to cut down on all my blotting throughout the day. I described my skin to a girl that approached me and asked if I needed help finding anything. She looked at my skin and told me my best bet is to go to a dermatologist and to not wear any makeup for a while!!!! I was honestly speechless and so hurt! What beauty sales person tells a customer to go to a dermatologist. She said it in such a rude manner, I was flustered and left. I even called my friend to tell her what just happened because I couldn't believe it. I came for help and to purchase products to boost my confidence and I left feeling horrible. I made a yelp account JUST to write this review. I genuinely hope a manager sees this and shares this with her staff and has a talk with this girl, because I do not believe this is part of training.
