I rarely leave poor reviews but the most recent Sephora experience I had at the Town Center Plaza Leawood location has iced the cake. First, every time I enter this Sephora, there are between 3-5 employees loitering at the center of the entrance, talking to each other. I've even witnessed employees poking fun at customers in the store and laughing. Fairly wretched behavior. These "sales associates" seldom, if ever, look at a customer entering and greet them or ask them if they can be of help. My most recent visit was more of the same. I came in to purchase 2-3 items approximately a week ago. Some of the displays and brand locations within the store had changed, so I was milling around for about 15-20 minutes trying to find the items I needed. No one, repeat - NOT ONE sales associate - asked me if I needed help, though I counted 7 associates roaming the store including a manager talking to 2 associates in the middle of the store while customers walked around and past them. While I was searching for my items, I witnessed a couple of customers who were already in the store who were looking for things and not being helped. A couple of other customers walked in after me and weren't greeted. The manager and 2 sales associates never approached anyone to help them. I made my way back to the fragrance area and was looking around, clearly ripe to be asked if I needed assistance. A male associate was standing in the area as I was smelling fragrances and browsing. He barely glanced at me and then resumed typing into his phone. I sincerely hope he was searching the internet for "what does the word job mean?" When I finally went to check out, I waited alone at the counter for about 5-7 minutes before the same sales guy from the fragrance area came up to the counter and said he could check me out. What a privilege. He told - yup, told, not asked, and with no "please" attached - told me to enter my phone number into the keypad. He asked me if anyone had helped me. I said no, while checking his face to see if he recognized me as the person he had just failed to assist in the fragrance area. But there was nothing but a blank stare returned my way. In the middle of the transaction, as the manager was walking by, he told her he needed to talk to her about something before she left; this interaction had nothing whatsoever to do with me, he was just making sure he caught her - in the middle of "helping" a customer check out. He never told me the total or asked if I found what I needed. He told me the keypad was ready for me to pay with my card. Then he told me my receipt would be emailed to me, handed me my little striped Sephora bag and walked away from the counter as I was still putting my wallet back into my purse. The whole experience was as bizarre as it was bankrupt of service. On top of that, at nearly every makeup area I looked at, Ilia, Kosas, etc., the testers had not been cleaned and makeup was smeared on new, boxed items. Yuck. So my question, Sephora: Why even have sales associates? I literally helped myself until I had to check out and I would have had a more pleasant check out experience with a kiosk and AI. If I could give this location and Sephora's over all lack of customer support online sub zero stars, I would. I'm going to make a concerted effort not to shop with Sephora anymore in general. I seriously do not want to contribute to paying the paychecks of these...well, I'll let you dear review readers enter any old name you wish to call them. Extremely disappointed in Sephora's new exchange policy. I purchased an item for future use -- something I've done for years -- only to learn the window has been reduced from 60 days to 30 days. This was not clearly communicated at purchase, and for such an expensive retailer, the lack of flexibility is frustrating. Buyer beware: don't buy anything you don't plan to use immediately. Well, I couldn't have guessed I would be writing this review. I recently moved back to KC and this used to be my favorite Sephora location. Not anymore. I've been a rouge for over a decade and will never return to this location. I was swatching an eyeshadow palette in your store yesterday 11/16/24, and had an Asian woman who works there approach me and say "you are looking for a bronzer, right?" I looked up, and she was looking back and forth at another employee and giggling. I said "what? No, I'm not." And she looked at the other employee again and was barely able to hold back laughter long enough to say, "sorry, thought you needed one." And then looked at the other employee and they both laughed again. I have very fair skin. This was extremely rude and unacceptable behavior. I have no idea how or why you are allowing that type of interaction in your store, but it is appalling. read more

She took the time to answer our questions, suggest products and then show us how to apply them. She was very personable, kind and professional. We ended up each purchasing extra products. Love this location! Easy to locate, great location in the outdoor mall, and always a ton of employees anxious to help you as soon as you walk in the door. I am not very savvy in makeup knowledge, so I have really relied on them the last few years and they are always spot-on in their recommendations! We will definitely be back! read more

I didn't realize Sephora was in Town Center. I stopped in to buy foundation and ended up getting it and a lip stain. When I first walked in Shanelle was helping me; I ended up with Zoie (Shanelle clocked out). Both helped me and I was very satisfied. It wasn't until I got to the counter when Hannah was walking away and I told her I was ready to check out. She acted as if I was inconveniencing her. I complimented her on her foundation (which was very pretty) but she didn't have much to say. You could tell she was "put out". Overall, I was able to get in and find what I was looking for with the help of Shanelle and Zoie. I appreciate them! I will be back because there are some friendly people in this world who are willing to help, when needed. read more

I loooooove Sephora! I'm a major makeup and beauty product junkie, so this place is like heaven for me. The staff here is SUPER nice, as is everyone I've ever encountered at any Sephora store. The only reason I'm not going 5 stars though, is because when I order from the Sephora website, they throw in 3 free sample items. Here at the store, they're not as willing to do that, even though several of their products are labeled 'try me.' The first time I came here was very soon after they opened & my cashier said that they were all out of their samples since they'd been swamped after they first opened. Why couldn't they have just squeezed some products into to-go containers for me? I didn't quite get that. Sephora is very clean and bright and has an amazing selection of products- nothing you'd find at drugstores, however, it's all department store quality product, but they do have some great deals on things, so it's not all department store prices. Make sure to check out their currents sales, clearances, and promotions. And definitely sign up for their Beauty Rewards program- it's free to sign up, and you get lots of great perks, including free products with every $100 you spend. read more

Not just "Not good" but rather, NEGATIVE stars I went to this store to buy some specific products (I had a long list), and I needed help selecting a color for one of them. The saleperson laughed at me when I asked a question. I don't mean just a good-natured joking giggle, but a loud guffaw, making me feel like a complete idiot. I have never been so embarrassed. I left as fast as I could get out of there, without buying anything, and I will never, ever, ever step foot in there again. I took my business to Ulta, where I was treated with kindness and respect. Sephora has a great selection of products and a great return policy (if it doesn't work return it for a full refund within 60 days). But I personally think they are overpriced. I can find similar products online with other merchants for less. Their sales staff are usually friendly, knowledgable, and professional. In my opinion, buy from Sephora first to see if the product agrees with you, then buy it elsewhere to save money. read more

I went air for service today. All I wanted was a pedicure and nails removed. The tech went round around with me about not remove my nails and just get in a fill done. I explained to her that I have had to Phils and I just want to remove the nails, but she still intended on telling me what she thought I should do. So while my feet are soaking, she proceeds to go ahead and start trying to remove my nails well the little metal thing she uses the hot and burn the heck out of my finger to where I jumped. She was very rude from the start and I said OK well I am about two minutes from walking out because I have just had enough. She said well OK fine go ahead and go. She wiped my feet off barely so my feet are wet while putting my shoes back on. As I'm leaving I am trying managers that the service I had was bad they offered another tech, but I did not want to wait and I just wanted to get out of there. They're called and told them that it was the worst Spears I ever had and I will not be back and asked if there was a way I could get a refund on this gift card that I have they said no. So I guess I would just let my daughter use it and I told them that I would never myself or my daughter will be stepping a foot back in that place. And I know they don't care but I wanted them to know. I've always read the back James that they had but until today I had decent service but I'm never going back. I went in today excited to purchase some new Fenty products. I am a makeup Artist but unfortunately Fenty doesn't have a Pro membership yet. The only place to purchase is online or at Sephora. I love Sephora. I love all other locations besides this particular one. For some reason, when I come here I usually have a terrible experience. The first bad experience I had was when I came in with my boyfriend and I was swatching products on my hands. A lady came up to me and extremely rudely told me that I was contaminating their products and that I cannot try them. What????? You are a makeup store, telling me that I cannot try a product on my hand... I was really irked by that and embarrassed by what she had just said. The rest of the time in the store (about 30-45 minutes) she kept following me around making comments. The second experience was when I came in for a custom makeover. The only bad thing that happened was the foundation the Sephora worker was using exploded all over my shirt and ruined it. She was really sweet and apologized. Overall, most of the workers seem very snobby and rude at this location. I try to avoid coming here... When I do, I always keep to myself and try to not make eye contact with the staff. I had a wonderful MUA with pretty bright yellow hair do my color match for foundation . I can't remember her name but she was great. Honestly every single lady I talked to was absolutely wonderful. (Just about everyone) lol. Makeup shopping is already a dream girls place to be and they really up the experience with their knowledgeable staff, fun atmosphere, and customer service you only dream about. A lot of people had complaints about the service here so I was a little nervous. I don't know if I caught them on a good day or they've upped their game but I had no issues. I came in a couple weeks ago for a make up refresh. I had booked an appointment in advance but when I arrived, there was no one willing to assist me. 20 minutes later, one of the employees told me someone would be with me. When my make up artist arrived, she explained that someone would prep my face (remove my make up) before she would begin. Waited again for 10 mins when she came back & said "well I'll guess I'll be prepping you". She was nice, but her make up was SCARY! She had on bright orange glitter shadow from eye lash to eye brow. I thought maybe she was trying to show her work off... Maybe? Anyway, she begins to apply make up, all is well and I ask for a more dramatic eye. She kept calling me "GIRL"... Like "oh girl...!!" She probably said it at least 20 times. By the time she was finished I looked like a ghost with brown eye shadow on. I was shocked! Horrified! My make up looked better (more natural) when I came in! So I went home & washed my face before anyone could see me besides my family. I ended up returning the product I'd purchased & won't return to this store again. My advice: in a high rent location like Leawood, Sephora should hire more professional "artists". read more

I can't stand this location. I always have issues with this store regarding stock and customer service. This location has a chronic issue with not getting stock out in a timely manner. I always check online to see what Sephora stores have the item I want in stock. The Leawood Sephora is located 5 minutes away from where I live. Often times I'll come in looking for a specific eyeshadow palette and I'll ask the associates where the palette is located and they'll have no clue. Most times they'll automatically tell me they never got it in and as always I call them out on it by referring to what online says. So they'll go to stockroom and take forever. Begrudgingly they'll finally bring it out. They act like I'm the biggest pain. I'm a retail manager you can't pull that crap with me. I prefer to go to the Sephora on the plaza or even the one in North Kansas City or better yet ordering most of my makeup from Beautylish.com. I receive much better customer service from other locations and yes the Leawood location has an issue with associates grouping together, chit-chatting and ignoring customers. As a retail manager, it's hard to restrain myself from saying something. This store could use better management. read more

Walked into Sephora today to pick up some new make-up and had a very frustrating experience. Now I wasn't looking my best but I wasn't my worst either. When I walked in, I made eye contact with three, yes 3 employees and was given the once over by all of them. I guess my capris and t-shirt wasn't up to their standards and they promptly either turned away or quickly found something to do. It became rather clear that I was going to have to find what I was looking for on my own so I began searching. The Bareminerals was in the back so I made my way back there and stood there with two other women for some time. The bronzer I was looking for had changed and I wasn't sure what I needed. One of the clerks came over and asked the lady next to me if she needed help and she declined. She asked the lady on the other side and went about answering her questions. I waited my turn thinking I would be next. Well nope, not a word. When she was done, I asked if she could help me and she looked me in the eye and then turned and walked off. At this point I was more than miffed. I grabbed what I hope was what I needed and headed to the register. I wanted to just walk out but I needed the make-up and didn't want to go to the mall. The woman at the register, Rebecca, was lovely. She was kind and thoughtful. She could tell I was upset and asked how she could help. I told her that I just needed to go but thanked her for her kindness. She is the only reason that I would ever go back. I may not be "pretty" enough for the employees that work there but you better be careful. I've got plenty of money to spend and have been known to drop several hundred at a time when I replace everything at once. I hope you figure this out before it gets worse. read more

I have been a Sephora fan for years.. and years.. and way too many years. Way too many dollars. I love the store location here because it is large, lots of options, and the staff is incredibly helpful when it comes to getting what you need. The only thing I guess that bugs me, is you don't get the same value as ordering online. When I order online, I always get free samples and goodies (especially since I am a VIB member here) - in store, really no perks. I went into this Sephora today because i work right by it but I don't think I'll comeback. I was there for about 20 minutes and not one person greeted me or offered any help. Normally I wouldn't make a big deal of it but i was really wanting a new foundation and products for winter. One the consultants was standing right by me while I was trying different foundation shades on my hand and she was too busy applying her lipstick. There were 7-8 consultants on the floor and only a few customers. I will just continue going to the Oak Park location although it's out of the way, there are always people offering help and checking in with me. I always feel welcome there. read more

I was at the Sephora Leewood, KS location because last week (April 8) and the week before I bought some makeup and after I checked out the salesperson told me about the spring sale happening this week (April 9-19). I went in to return and repurchase my make up with the sale price and they had to call the store manager Patricia? Patty Courtney for this. She talked to me in a condescending and rude manner humiliating me in front of everyone around trying to explain that as per sephora policy they don't price adjust and that I bought the items outside of the sales window. I tried to explain to her that it was within sephoras return policy for me to be able to return any purchase within 30 days. All I'm asking is to repurchase the same used items I'm returning using the sale so sephora company does not get stuck with used returns. She kept trying to explain the sale to me and how I did not get it in the sales window by a day and that she would do me a favor to allow me to do the repurchase for only the items I bought the day before the sale started. So I asked her if the 30 day return policy is still in effect for sephora and she said yes but tried explaining to me the sale again in a condescending tone so I ended up just saying fine I want a refund and did not bother repurchasing the items back because she upset me a lot. A shame because I really liked the items I had bought. I left the store to my husband waiting in the car and explained what had happened and he was upset for me and went inside to find out the name of the woman so that he can call corporate office to let them know. He figures someone there would want to know how customers are being treated. He went in to talk to her and tried explaining our side and she was trying to talk over him about the sale adjustment policy rather than listening to the complaint and said "Can I please talk?!" when she was the one that started talking over him and interrupted him. Then she said that he was yelling at her when he was not. His voice was animated but not loud or yelling. Then she dismisses him turning away to walk away and says in a loud voice towards the people at the register to call security. We realize that we were getting nowhere with her so we asked her name so that we can reach out to sephora and only got it after asking for it multiple times. In the past I have had no issues with sephora and it has been a nice relaxing place to shop. I like going into the store so I can try the makeup before I buy to minimize having to return stuff but if this is the customer service I get in stores I will be staying far away from stores. It is very sad because with online shopping becoming more popular I see many brick and mortar stores closing but unless there is better focus on customer service I think all brick and mortar stores will suffer loss of customers and in turn cause the loss of job opportunities in my community. I highly doubt anything will come of my complaint and she will continue to be rude to certain customers she feels she can talk to in this manner (meek and timid type like myself) but I hope that someone at sephora will look into it. read more

I'm a VIB rouge member and love shopping at Sephora but don't care for this location. Unless you look rich you won't get waited on. Luckily I am very good at applying makeup and usually just laugh at the girls who work in there because they can't apply their own makeup. I will never understand it.
