I spend probably too much time and money at this Sephora, which I guess says good things about them. Let's start here: I am not glamorous. I can do the makeup basics but I'll never be one of those people with a flawless face who always looks put together. Despite this, everyone in Sephora is always friendly and willing to answer questions. The store is always well staffed and if you need help finding the right color or product there's always someone around to help. I recently went in looking for a new face wash because the one I've been using and loving isn't cruelty free. They sent me home with 6 samples to try so I could find the right replacement. The Sephora Play box is a great way to try new products and get a little more adventurous if you're like me and always stick to one or two items/looks. I also love their return policy: you can return anything at any time for any reason. I'd love to see Sephora make their own products cruelty free and carry more cruelty free brands in store. As such a large name in the beauty business they have the platform to make a real difference. read more

I've been to Sephora stores all over the country and this one is not up to standard. The service people stood around talking to each other rather than helping customers. The makeup racks were very poorly maintained and dirty. the supply of product with major brands like Lancôme and Clinique were out of stock. when I finally found someone to ask for help, she simply said and pointed "oh Lancôme is over there" and went back to whatbshe was doing rather than help me find what I needed. I have never really had any make up training growing up. I would stay pretty neutral for eye shadow and foundation. So I signed up for a makeover (It is "free" if you make a 50 dollar purchase or become one of their VIP members). The young woman doing my session was very pleasant. She asked what I was interested in doing: I wanted to see if I could expand my eye shadow color range beyond my usual neutral browns and pinks. We talked about purples and blues and decided to try a deep navy blue eye. As she was gathering products to try, another young woman talked to me about skin care and gave me a mini facial cleaning to prep my face. Products were recommended but not pressured. My skin felt great. The first woman took over again, and we were actively taking about what I expect make up to do and how it should be applied. It was nice having her attention for forty-five minutes. The blue was not a big hit for me but the foundation and how she styled my eye liner were. I will take those tips with me. I ended up buying the foundation (which was a tinted moisturizer) and powder set. Also, the eye primer and make up setter. I exceeded my 50 dollar limit but these were things I needed. Everything that was used and how it was applied during that make over was written down. I can see why there is hardly an open seat at the make up mirror. I have always thought the staff at the West Towne Sephora to be helpful and informed. The makeover continued that thought. read more

Walked into Sephora yesterday needing help matching foundation. Employee was doing her own make up in mirror instead of helping me, so I asked for help. She acted like I was in the way and she wanted to be doing something else (like doing her own make up.) I had to tell her what my goal was multiple times and she was putting in her least possible efforts. She even asked me to go up to the counter and ask them to figure out my foundation shade because I guess she couldn't help me. I won't be going to this Sephora again because I find they are much more helpful at the Sephora inside JC Penney. read more

The thing that saves me from Sephora is the fact that I am kind of a cheapskate. I walk in and want everything, but I have a hard time letting myself spend $20 on lipstick when I can spend $5 at a big box store. I also like makeup in theory but tend to be pretty lazy about actually wearing it, making the effort maybe 2 or 3 times a month. Someone always asks if I need help when I walk in, but no one's ever been pushy. Checking out is often slow, but not so terrible as to dissuade me. Their free birthday gift is usually pretty good and doesn't require a purchase to pick up. If you buy beauty products with any regularity, I'd recommend their rewards program. I hardly buy anything but enjoy the perks of a free birthday gift and the occasional $15 coupon they send out. I should definitely check out their classes, I haven't really upped my game since learning how to apply mascara without holding the wand still and blinking at it as a teen. read more

Do Madison-ites even know this Sephora exists? I'm from California and have been here more than most locals! It's a great store, has wonderful people to help and is very clean. Sephora's are pretty much standard with what they carry, so selection was on par with most other Sephora's. I hit up this Sephora every time I'm in town. This shop has an absolutely phenomenal sales team. Emily is always in my corner, chill if I have a makeup emergency, like a cool older sister or the popular girl who knows exactly how to do the makeup you want. Kerry (Kerri?) has this amazing memory, and she knows exactly the kinds of things you like, as well as your favorite brands, and can recommend new products that she knows you'll get excited about. Finally, Heidi is absolutely phenomenal at customer service. My Buxom build-your-own-eyeshadow was out of a color I wanted for like a month; she arranged to have it shipped to my home, free of charge, and if it arrived at the store before it arrived at my house, she would have called me to let me know. And you really must try the color match IQ. I put on my new foundation, and more than one person has told me how good I look without makeup (while I'm wearing it!). Come in with a vague idea or a specific question, they can handle it all. read more

Sephora is a great example of paying for what you get. Yes, it's a pricey store, but they only carry the best in makeup and skincare. The Beauty Insider rewards club is free and great AND regardless of if you join the club or not you ALWAYS get free samples when you purchase something. Love this place!!! Can not stop loving it! Won't stop loving it! The staff is friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Honestly, what more can you want? Prices are a little high but you get what you pay for. Not to mention, this is just how much everything costs. It is what it is. The staff can help you find the perfect product and definitely get your money's worth. Unhappy with it? Return it. Used it? Does not matter. There is a birthday club and a rewards group. So addicting. I can not leave without spending more than I really need to. I always find something that would fit amongst my collection of other underused makeup and hair products. But, none the less, this store is A+, I just wish the products did not cost so much! The prices are equivalent to similar stores but has higher-end and more variety of the brands they do carry, such as Benefit (my fave), Smashbox, Urban Decay...the list goes on. The employees that work there also love what they do. I have been able to come in and get fabulous ideas and on top of it all, they will sit me down and try and teach me how to use their ideas. And for someone like me, who is fairly incompetent in makeup application, is a nice service to have. PS. Sign up for the rewards program (Beauty Insider). I attended a class at Sephora and still find this store to be the best I've visited. The class was led by a very knowledgeable and personable instructor with a two equally awesome assistant instructors. Came into the store all employees were standing around doing nothing. I asked if they could match my foundation and help me find a bronzer. they said the have no appointments today. I came right as the store opened at 11. When I came back at 1130 they were still standing doing nothing. they lost probably a 150$ sale for not helping. read more

as someone who worked across the street from sephora for years in chicago, I was stoked to learn that there was one in madison. even though it's in a mall and it's on the west side (blergh), it beats paying for shipping. sephora is pretty great. they have a good selection of everything, from styling products to skin care. it's not cheap, but you get what you pay for. if you ever need to return anything, they don't give you a hassle. sephora is my go-to place for makeup and skin care products. read more

I've been to a few Sephoras and this one is solid in terms of selection. However, I'm glad I came in knowing what I wanted to buy because not one sales person asked if I needed help. Maybe I didn't look like I needed help (I didn't) or maybe it was because I was with my husband. Either way, it didn't bother me because I know my way around a Sephora. At the same time, if I had been a novice, I don't think this would have been as positive an experience. The cashiers were very friendly, cool and quick. I love Sephora. Ross is my go-to guy. He's so helpful and isn't afraid to tell me if a color or product isn't good for me. He introduced me to one of my favorite products; Tarina Tarantino's Pearl Glow primer. The line had just launched when I questioned him about it, he knew all about Tarina's line (including the history of her career in the make-up industry). I'm not new to make-up, infact I love make-up but it's so nice to have second opinion from someone who knows the ins and outs of the products. The best part about Ross is that he doesn't push to sell. He recommends things but puts no pressure on me to commit to a sale. He's easy to talk to and very friendly. read more

Great, encouraging instructors who show you how to put on certain products from prepping to the final touches. There's usually a demo and then you get to try it on yourself. I recently started my interest in make up and skin care due to pre-midlife crisis. I really didn't have much clue on any of this stuff. I am a late starter I guess. I only found out a few months that women really plug their brows to achieve certain look. So,a friend recommended me to go to Sephora (west towne) for my beauty supplies and fresh tips from their beauticians. I went there right after Christmas and the store was relatively quiet but soon after I arrived, people started to pour in. The sale person hooked me up with a make-up person who did the smokey eye and showed me how to apply blush on my cheeks. I thought I looked okay. It didn't transformed me into an over night make over you see on TV shows but I liked it. As a novice, I thought I was supposed to buy the stuff they used on me so I spent about $300. I was told the stuff they carry are brand names and supposed to be better for your skin and Oprah even usestheir skin care line; philosophy. I have some existing cosmetic I have been using the past few months like loreal and Revlon. When I compare them with what I got from Sephora, I really didn't see any big difference. The only difference I would say is the price I paid for them. If I went to target and bought the same cosmetic in different brands in Target, I would have spent less than $200 for the stuff I got at Sephora. I appreciate that they have people who can show you how to work on your skin tone and give you tips. It was very helpful for me but is it really worth spending 4-5 times more than the departmental stores for relatively same stuff but with different brand? My friend swears by it but, for me I am still undecided. read more

I've only been to this Sephora twice and BOTH times I've gone I've been offered help several times AND have been able to purchase something that had not even launched in stores yet (on both occasions). The staff is super professional and helpful and if you are looking for a new product that is not in store yet I highly recommend asking someone because they likely have it in back and will sell it to you early!! I'm writing specifically about the Personal Beauty Adviser service offered at this Sephora. I booked this session because I had very little experience with makeup and needed some advice for a professional look for a new job. This service requires that one purchase $125 worth of makeup, but since I owned no makeup, I figured I'd spend that much anyway, so I hoped it would be a good investment. It involves a 90 minute session where you meet with a personal beauty adviser and get information and tips for makeup, skincare, etc. Bao was excellent to work with. She answered all of my questions and paid particular attention to my needs. For example, she chose products where minimal tools would be needed for application so that I could begin to build my makeup collection without lots of brushes, sharpeners, etc. She also did not push any products on me and helped me select what would be most useful within the budget that I had. She wrote down information about each product we tried (and instructions on how to use them) so that I have a guide for doing my own makeup or purchasing products in the future. I'm really happy with the experience I had, and I now also have a place to go and a person to talk to if I run into makeup or skincare-related questions in the future. read more

The ladies here are awesome. I wish I got the name of the associate who helped me tonight. The airline "misplaced" my luggage - so I ran over here to grab some basics in case my bags weren't found, as I am in town for a wedding. The associates here were amazing! They helped me to find what I needed and even grabbed some samples of a relaxing and cleansing mud mask (I was breaking out from the stress of my lost baggage!) and some hair products. I am almost always satisfied with my shopping experiences at Sephora. I have been shopping there for the last few years, driving up to 45 minutes to get there instead of going to other stores. The staff are warm and welcoming and passionate about the products. They seem to be solution-oriented and really help find the perfect product for your individual needs. Only once they ran out of the product I use, but offered a very comparable option. I have very sensitive skin and yet I loved the alternative. Every so often there is an associate that isn't up to these helpful standards and seem a bit stuck up, and that's the only reason I'm giving 4/5. read more

I went to sephora last week at Night and I was trying to buy some Foundation and setting spray so I was looking in to the products but the big guy that is a security in shepora west town mall was standing by the door but then i walk and he keep following me, looking like he was mad,im honest i like to take my time looking to products and Im not racist but the store need to do something about this black security for me its dosent Matter his color,but his actitud not only with me if not with ever single lati npeople that when he saw latino people keep walking behind them like if we are going to take some products from the store with out pay,for me in my country the costumer need to be their priority because if we do not buy there ,the store dosent exist,in our country we give the cosumer good treatment, because the costumer is the one that are giving the money for them (workers) And what I see in here they are not very polite,with littel culture and without education,and if you do not see people taking something you do not need to be invading people when they are shopping is very uncomfortable to be buying or looking to products and the security are looking to you like if you are doing something wrong,either the employees dosent come to you and ask you if you need something, they need to talk to him or simple contract somebody else ,this Man look prepotent ,please sephora do something about it,thanks read more

It has been some time since I have been to this particular Sephora (over a year), but I generally feel that Sephora is overrated. I went to this one twice looking for specific shades of base shadow, gel eyeliner, and waterproof mascara. I asked one of the sales associates for the specific Bobbi Brown base shadow. She checked and said they did not have that particular shadow so she said, "Buy this one instead, it's close enough. I don't think they even make that shade anymore -- I used to work a Bobbi Brown counter." I was immediately doubtful of that, since it's one of the base colors and I had been buying it for years. So I went over to the Boston Store, found the Bobbi Brown counter, asked for that shade, and lo and behold they had it. I also asked at Sephora for a specific Stila gel eyeliner, which they also did not have. I ended up buying that online. I browsed their waterproof mascara but again could not find what I was looking for, so I ordered that online, too. If you don't know exactly what you want and just want to browse lots of different cosmetic brands, then Sephora is probably a good place to get started.
