The customer service was extremely poor, and the employee was openly rude, dismissive, and unprofessional. Rather than attempting to help, she immediately became defensive and told me to contact HR. When I asked for the HR phone number, I was told they "don't give that out," which made no sense and only added to the frustration. After I stated that the situation was absurd, the employee accused me of being rude and refused to help any further. Since she was unwilling and clearly not in a position to resolve the issue, I walked away and received assistance from another employee without any problem. Overall, this interaction was handled very poorly, completely unprofessional and lacked basic customer service skills. read more

Came to return an item that I meant to purchase with my VIB 20% off feature. I had the unfortunate experience of dealing with "Shay" who said she was the store manager. Shay said that they need the same credit card in order to refund me, which I did not have at the time. I explained that I waited a very long time in line and I work every day. I would be unable to come back before the refund period is up. Shay said that there were no options beyond a store credit, which was not what I wanted. I asked her to explore other options, and she said that she would get her other manager who "would tell me the same thing she told me". The second manager was actually very helpful and provided a shipping label so that I could ship the items back and have a refund automatically go onto the credit card that I didn't have in possession. I said "Shay, you see she did not repeat what you said, and there are other options" she then was very rude and rolled her eyes, stating that she didn't need life advice from me. I don't believe that the customer is always right, but I do believe that it is our job to go to every extent to find the best possible solution for our customers. This will be a pretty niche review, because I think I fall in a unique and small category of Sephora customers. I'm very much into fragrances, so I'll only cover that section. In terms of their selection in comparison to other Sephora's, this place has a great deal of options. Especially the Serge Lutens display, while they're missing about 10, they've got the main and big ones available for testing. They're also unisex. They also have a small Tom Ford section, but only the aquatics, none of the private blend unfortunately. Hermès has a small section too, with most of their releases. Maison Margiela has a whole double sided table with everything except By The Fireplace. In terms of the designer frags, the men's section is tiny and dwindling. However I'm hoping the phase out the whole men and women's fragrances, as honestly it should all be unisex. Maybe not Daisy by Marc Jacobs, but almost everything can be worn by anyone. On a side note, if you want samples all you have to do is ask. You can get up to 3 fragrances sampled. Though you can't get 3 of the same bottle. In terms of staff, majority are friendly. They don't approach you as often as other stores, which is great. Because when I'm trying to smell 20-30 different fragrances, I don't like being bothered. read more

Sephora is like a candy store for women and this location is an exceptionally large candy store! You can't help but to walk through Sephora with a smile on your face. They carry all of the major brands and even some of the more difficult to find ones too. The store is filled with plenty of knowledgeable staff to assist you in finding that perfect item. A fabulous place for gift ideas... but don't let the selection overwhelm you guys, they also have gift card options available! I don't know a woman that couldn't make good use of a Sephora gift card! My daughter doesn't save on her make up so she made shopping worth 200$ and was happy to come home and show me her new things. To our surprise some of the boxes were just empty, like a 40$ pencil, for example. I have to mention that it happened to me once in the same store that time Dior mascara was used!!!! Sure not all Sephora reps are purposely gossiping in groups of 4s instead of actually interested in helping a person... but today I saw at least half the staff talking to each other with people waiting for them to help them. I came here with the hopes of figuring out my shade for the new Nars foundation. The online swatches weren't so helpful. I must have spent at least 10 minutes looking at the various shade and figuring out the differences in undertone. Did anyone once ask me for help? No. Did anyone actually look at me when I stood by a group of associates? No. Instead of walking out with a Nars foundation and concealer, I walked out with nothing. Easily one of the worst locations. I wish I could give 1 star. I developed health issues recently that prevent me from sitting in car rides for longer than 10 mins. So, I do most of my shopping online. However, this is a pain when I have to return. Some times my family will make a trip out of it to take me out. It takes a lot out of me and a lot of planning as well. So we made a trip to this Sephora to return a Jo Malone Candle (around June). The cashier asked for the manager who told me that she couldn't process the return as it was a US online order (I usually ship to my sister in US as I'm not able to get deliveries myself due to health issues. She accepts them and checks it over for me then brings them for me when she comes to visit). However, a long time ago I remember I was able to return something to Markville Sephora purchased in the US. The manager went on to give me some lame excuse saying I'm not sure why they were able to do it but there isn't anything else she can do for me. According to her Sephora has split the US and Canada system so she can't look it up. Maybe you can go back there she suggested. Well why would they be able to do it and not you? And no wrong its not easy for me to get to Markville given my condition. Point is everyone at this store is very reluctant to help - see all the other google reviews. My sister went to Fairview mall the other day to return a broken item she has purchased in Sephora USA - NO problems. They were able to do it. No questions asked (this is July) So many months later (this week in September!) my family took me to Eaton Center on another family day out. I thought I would try my luck again at this Sephora. They were SO helpful! They even told me they have no idea why Square One told me that. She just looked at my receipt and scanned the item and that was it. The lady even went so far as to call the Sephora on Yonge and Eglinton to ask if they had a Jo Malone product and made arrangements for my sister to exchange another product for me with no issues. Both locations just looked at the online receipt and scanned the item. Square one definitely does not want to bother helping. Looks at you sympathetically like you are such a poor sod for wanting to return anything. Shame on you for returning anything! Such a horrible experience. I may even write an email to head office. So incredibly frustrated especially since they didn't even carry Jo Malone in any Canada locations until recently. I love the SQ1 location. The staff are wonderful, friendly and accommodating. They also have product knowledge. This location is a lot bigger than Bramalea City Centre's location. They also carry a wider variety of brands. Hence why I rather come here. This location is normally busy at any given point throughout the day, but I would still rather come here. I recently had my make-up done for professional pictures. Gloria, my MUA, she was fantastic! I'd put her in my pocket and bring her home to do my make up every day! I loved the work she did. I cringe every time I have to go to this place. My only reason is to get a gift certificate for my niece, who is Sephora crazy, otherwise wild horses would not get me in the store. I was interested to note that several other reviewers have my complaint: the horrible service. So okay, I get that most of the people working there are very young, and they are not well trained in customer service. Having said that, it amazes me that the head office doesn't see the point of well trained sales staff. You sell more when you make nice with the clients, and I would have thought the bottom line is what interests them the most. Not once have I ever been greeted by anyone when walking in and through the place. It is not for want of staff since the place seems to be crowded with staff who spend a lot of time checking themselves out in the mirrors. I would like to add that I always go right after opening, so them being crazy busy is not an issue. I once asked a product question and the answer was so stupid and totally incorrect (I looked it up after) that I would never ask them a question again. Their product knowledge is really bad and their willingness to help clients is non-existent. Their website is pathetic and I have never once been able to take advantage of any of their on-line offers. Shoppers Drug Mart is huge, and doesn't specialize in makeup like Sephora does, but I have found that the beauticians at Shoppers are very knowledgeable, helpful and pleasant, and that a wide selection of cosmetic and beauty products are carried. Took a trip to Sephora today with my younger sister and a few of her friends. I was just browsing the store and was waiting for them to checkout. I had a few items in hand that I wanted to purchase (two to be exact) and it seemed as if aswarm of workers had offered me a basket. I had accepted the basket nonetheless as it was a considerate gesture. However, as I removed my items to go pay, and place the basket down- a male worker very rudely and promptly handed me a basket. As I explained to him I was about to enter the queue to pay, he said "I do not care, take the basket mam." After the blatant disrespect and lack of consideration I had received, I handed the basket and products to a worker and immediately left the store. No goods were stolen or even attempted at being stolen. Following returning home, I'm receiving cryptic messages that a certain employee has referred to me "as the bitch who tried to steal". I understand Sephora may deal with many customers who steal daily, however this was not me and has made me think twice about returning to this location. Not sure if personal information had been leaked from my insider account to receive such messages of this regard, but all I know is this is over the top and rude. This was one of my worst shopping trips ever, and I didn't even buy anything- or look suspicious (I suppose). Way to go Sephora, I thought your employee training was more intensive than this. Sephora is like heaven as soon as you walk in here...it's like you can finally breathe a little better. For me at least. Came here yesturday to check out what they have and look around. I find that the staff here is always so busy helping everybody out that everybody else just tries out the make-up for themselves, kinda like trial and error. They have so many different high end make-up brands here as well as their own Sephora brand (which is just as fine as the other brands, if i may say so), its a little overwhelming at first. Besides Make-up, they also carry perfumes/colognes, nail-polish, brushes, skin care, lotions. everything that has to do with pampering and beauty you will find here. All in one spot. As a devoted Sephora customer, I can say with certainty that this is among the worst locations in the GTA. Trying to find help here is virtually impossible. Sales associates will walk right past as if I'm invisible, and trying to gesture to an employee to indicate that I actually need assistance usually results in a dismissive wave of their hand. I've actually been shoved by an associate while at this location without as much as an apology or acknowledgement of my existence. Also, good luck trying to be matched via their Colour IQ service. I stood there alone for roughly 10 minutes today waiting for someone to assist me and trying to ask for help before giving up and walking away. Absurd. I understand that these women are most likely understaffed and overworked, but it is absolutely ridiculous that I've experienced piss poor customer service AT THIS PARTICULAR LOCATION time and time again. Yorkdale, the Eaton Centre, and the Bloor West locations are all fantastic (Yorkdale in particular!) and I will never step foot in the Square One Sephora again, despite the convenience. read more

I absolutely LOOOOOOOOOOOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE Sephora !! its my one stop shop for everything, make up, skin care, fragrance and beauty tools, they carry all my favorite brands; tarte, smashbox, stila, lancome and estee lauder :D the staff is really friendly, I ALWAYS leave happy with my purchases and I have the Sephora return policy on my side if Im not happy with a product which is great to me because It keeps me reassured; however, the only thing that bothers me is the fact that they seem to never have enough workers in the store, I always wait in line like 15-20 minutes ! and if I need help ill have to walk around looking for someone who isn't busy and even when I do get someone's attention they tell me ill have to wait in line behind other customers they have before me. this can be really frustrating because sometimes I feel like they forget about me and I have to remind them " hey ! dont forget about me, im still here!". they really should hire more people !! lol (like me!!) If you don't ask them exactly what you want step by step they will offer no further information. Just left me to fend for myself... still haven't found the product I was looking for. The best Sephora I've been to! Great service, excellent selection and very clean! While other stores are always out of stock for certain demand items (eg. Dior mascara), this location always has it. Very organized and hygienic testers. I am always greeted at the door upon entrance and departure. And I noticed their lighting and mirror make the makeup you try on 10x more appealing and tempting to buy! My frequent visits and purchases here, evidence being my V.I.B. Insider card and stacks of Sephora bags, are always worthwhile. read more

This is by far the worst Sephora location and the service has only been declining as of recently. On multiple visits, I have had horrible service which is why I am posting about it. On my last visit, I had gone in for a foundation colour match. First I was screened with the colour IQ machine, which was fine. I was then passed onto another associate who took me around the store to dab different foundations on my face. The whole ordeal was so unprofessional and I felt as though I could have just done that myself if that's all the associate was doing, as every time I asked her a question about the foundation, she has very minimal knowledge about the actual product and was just testing everything on my face instead of giving me an "expert" response or actually finding a product that catered to my needs. Not being satisfied, I asked if she could actually put it on my face instead of a little dab so I can see the application. She told me okay and that I can sit at the beauty bar for another associate to help me. She asked an associate by the bar if she was free to help me and this individual said she's not/not at the bar, when she was CLEARLY applying foundation on another customer just before and was now just wandering around doing nothing. We made eye contact several times as I waited for over 25 minutes and not once did she offer to help me when she was clearly someone who does do applications. Another associate also kept making eye contact, without asking if I was being helped. The girl who sat me down was just wandering around me as well without getting back to me or even saying "someone will be with you soon. After over 30 minutes of waiting, one associate finally comes to help me. She did show me a few foundations and applied them to my face with a sponge because she said her "brushes are dirty". The whole process was so unprofessional and she was also not knowledgable in answering questions about the different foundations. The other thing was that her supervisor came 5 minutes into her applying the foundation and told her that she needed to go on break. I understand that retail is hard and breaks need to be distributed, but I found it rude of someone in a management role to come interrupt my service to have a conversation with the associate about the break. The customer is always supposed to come first and I'm sure it was not a big deal if she finished helping me and then discussed breaks. After that point, the associate's attention was all over the place. I felt extremely rushed, so I told the associate that's it's okay if she needs to go on break and that if she can find me somebody else to continue helping me, even though this wasn't fair to me as I had already been waiting for 30 minutes to begin with. The supervisor came back another two times. Once she repeated herself and the second time she just hovered over with her clipboard and it was obvious that she wanted her to leave me mid-service. I felt extremely uncomfortable with this and told the associate she can go as it looks like the supervisor wants her to leave. The supervisor then says that she didn't even say anything, but it was all in her body language and how she was hovering over with her clipboard. Anyway, at this point I was rushed into making a decision - which I'll have to go back to fix at another location because the foundation is too dark for me. This would not have happened if I wasn't constantly interrupted during my matching, rushed, and the associate actually have product knowledge. The attitude of the associates, all the way up to the management lacks the want to actually help customers, is nonchalant, and lacks professionalism. The only reason I had continued going here is because it's my local Sephora store. In the future, I will not be investing my money here. I rather go somewhere like Shopper's where the service is friendly, knowledgable and professional. read more

I find that customer service varies depending on what time of day it is and how busy they are. I have been there before in the evening and was completely ignored---no acknowledgement or "hi" from the greeter, 4 sales associates walked by me. I didn't realize I was wearing an invisible suit. As someone who is a little intimidated to buy makeup when there are a gazillion things to choose from, I NEED HELP! I ended up leaving with no assistance, no products purchased. I tried going there again a couple days after in the early afternoon and was greeted immediately upon entering the store. After standing in front of the Nars makeup section for about 2 mins, a very nice sales associate asked me if I needed any help. YES PLEASE! I told her I was looking for concealer and wasn't sure what my colour was. To make a long story short, the first colour she choose was exactly my shade. Lined up to pay and off my merry way I went. I went to sephora on Victoria day and I expected to have little to no customer service or engagement from the "artists". I really needed a foundation ASAP and decided to come back a day later in the evening as I didn't think they would be too busy. (which they weren't) as soon as I walked in I asked an artist to help me out with matching me and she said she'll call someone over -- 5 mins go by and i wasn't helped but I see idle artists just walking around. When I asked them to help me they called for someone else to help me.... went to the cash asked yet another person to help me and nobody turned up. 20 mins in the store on a dead Tuesday evening and 0 customer service. Finally a girl comes up to me and I tell her about how upset I was and she cuts me off and didn't even try to match me with the foundation. Sooooo disappointed with this location -- sticking to Sherway gardens because they actually care and help you out, I'll buy 3 things at Sherway and 0 at square. read more
