I have been going to SKFY for about 5 years now. Sonny and Maya are both experts in their field of knowledge. Maya's yoga sequences are very well thought out and target specific areas of the body to increase strength and flexibility. She is always trying new things so the classes are always fresh and fun. Sonny is a wealth of knowledge about various martial arts practices. I did Chi Gong with him for about a year and noticed a significant change in both my physical and mental wellbeing. Both Sonny and Maya put a lot of love into what they do. On top of that the students are great. The vibe is very welcoming to new people from all walks of life. I've been fortunate enough to practice with SKFY for just over a year now. Maya and Sonny are both outstanding instructors. They are dedicated to their arts, both demonstrating a level of expertise not only in their practice, but also in their understanding and knowledge. As a 45+ year old newbie, it could have been an intimidating introduction (having never practiced martial arts), but SKFY is a welcoming and inclusive school. I've had the chance to participate in both yoga and the martial arts, and I can't recommend SKFY highly enough. You will work hard, but you will be supported and directed all along the way. I did it! I finally committed to a Yoga studio! Why this one? Even though it's the furthest from home it's worth it to me. I signed up for Tai Ji and Yoga classes :) Ya'll for real get on their website and sign up for one of their classes. First time to any class is FREE. Just select the time, the date and the class and show up! You'll see/feel why I committed. The owners (Sonny/Maya) who teach all the classes are approachable, knowledgeable, friendly, supportive, and truly great at what they do. If Newb or expert, everyone is welcomed to all the classes. They have the yoga mats, blocks, blankets, straps and such there for you to use if needed or you can bring your own. Apparel is what makes you feel comfortable. If you're thinking you might get bored with the same routines -you won't. Example, I've taken the Hatha, Qi Gong, and Vinyasa yoga classes and even though (besides Qi Gong) they are offered more than once during the week the classes have variations! I'm sure the other classes and Kung Fu are just as legit but I haven't tried them out. Classes range from morning to night and some afternoons. There are Saturday classes offered as well. PS - Tai Ji AMAZING So I hold my breath a lot during the day and now I work at a computer as well for the majority of the time. I was starting to feel like I was getting the Computer TRex body! You know... shoulders hunched to the ears, hands resting near the chest. Yeah like a Mr Burns from The Simpson's thing happening... anyways Tai Ji I feel like has been helping me relax and breatheeee. Breathing is good not breathing is probably bad ;) but you know stress! I recently moved to the area and started attending yoga classes here. Maya is a very thoughtful yoga instructor. She can cater to individual student's abilities in a class of mixed levels. She also takes her time to correct each person's form so we are stretching and strengthening the intended muscle, and this attention to detail is something you often don't get in larger studios. I have attended a variety of yoga studios so far, and I would highly recommend Maya's classes. read more
