I'd been looking for a hair colorist in Vermont after having lackluster results at another salon and am so glad my search led me to Laura Belle! She is a color wizard and a delightful person to chat with, too. I wanted very subtle highlights and lowlights just to cover up a few greys and give my hair a refresh, and she hit the nail on the head. Love this salon!! So clean and professional. I have a topper that I bought online and needed it to be cut to match my natural bio hair. I called a few local salons, and no salon wanted to cut my hair and topper . I can understand why, because they didn't want to be responsible. I continued to call around and left a message with Sequoia. I got a call back and Eliza told me that Shari had a lot of experience cutting wigs and would be happy to cut it. I told Eliza I would call back the next day to make an appointment. When I called back, Eliza wasn't there, and I was thinking oh no! I have to explain the whole thing again - nope!!! I hired Rachel to do hair and makeup for my cosmic themed wedding in Brandon, VT. And she was amazing!!!! Just Wow. Not only did she agree to work with me super last minute, but she really listened to what I was looking for and what I was concerned with. We did not even have time to do a trial run but Rachel did not need it. She was incredibly professional and creative with the whole process! Everyone lovedddddd the fancy Mohawk she created, especially me nobody had every seen anything quite like it. And the makeup lasted allll night!!!! Alyssa was awesome. This whole place is great and I wish there was a place just like it where I live. Making an appointment was so easy. When I arrived, I was given a tour of the salon and even offered a shirt to change into. My tour guide explained some customers like to change their shirt to keep the hair off them in addition to the usual salon cape. After the tour, I was offered a beverage and I sat in a comfy chair to peruse the magazines. Alyssa gave great recommendations for me hair cut and I took them all. When I was leaving, she told me they do free bang trims between hair cuts! [Cue heart eyes emoji]. What a dream! As my travel companion said when we were at a restaurant, "Burlington punches above its weight." Sequoia has completely nailed the customer service game. Laura Belle worked her magic and took my 'I have no idea what I want, just make me look cute' and ended up giving me exactly what I hadn't known I wanted. Wasn't too happy about the finish hair cut. It didn't look like what I wanted. I went in wanting a long front A Line hair style cut but end up with a short bob cut. The short bob cut is the photo I took in my restroom. I also attached a photo of how my hair looked before I cut it. It was pretty long. I was nervous at the salon when it was done but thought I'm going to go home to style it on my own and that's when I came to realize my gut feelings at the salon was dead on, it was not what I wanted. After straightening it I then realized it didn't look like what I wanted. I can see it was definitely not an long A Line cut it was more straight verse having the long front. I said I really wanted the long front hair. I even showed the stylist and "emphasize" that my husband and I had like the cut we found on Pinterest, same photo attached in this review, because we liked the long front. I'm not too sure how I should feel about my cut. I paid a good amount for the cut and lost all my long hair in wishes to have gotten a long A Line cut and got a short cut bob which I feared the most that would happen. In the end I feel that I made a big mistake cutting my hair here. read more

Horrible service. I came in to see Zoe. I requested a wash, and up do style for a wedding I was attending. She did not wash my hair, but loaded it with products instead. She then didn't have the curling iron size I wanted or the correct tools needed to do an up do. She said she wasn't aware of that, even know that is what I requested. I wanted small curls and she gave me wand curls. Nothing close to what I asked for. She then couldn't figure out how to do a low simple bun up do. She ended up leaving it down and it was wavy. I went home and washed everything and did my hair myself. She is now refusing my refund request for a service I basically did not get. I traveled 5 hours from out of town for this wedding and expected a stylist to be able to perform a simple up do. So unprofessional. Would never recommend. I then tried to contact the salon ( which someone has to own ) and they said they all rent individually and cannot help me. read more

Today was my first experience with Sequoia and I was very impressed! As someone who has moved several times in the last few years, it is hard to find a stylist and salon that feels like s good fit. I'm so happy I found Sequoia! I was welcomed the moment I walked in by Bradley who was so kind and attentive. Very professional, very polite, wonderful to talk to on the phone. Checking in and out was quick! My appointment was with Tia, she did a great cut and color, made sure that what I was expecting was realistic and doable. She let me know was going on which is always nice. She was lovely to chat with! Tia asked me about previous hair colors and lengths I've had, how long it had been since I had bangs, etc. She was very thorough. She made a big change that I really love! It's very obvious that she cares about her clients and she really listens to what they're looking for. The salon itself was very clean, bright and easy to find. Sequoia Salon first of all is GORGEOUS! Warm, inviting, comfortable, chic, elegant, funky. The owner, Shari clearly put her heart and soul into the design and I have heard she did much of it herself. The reception staff is friendly, efficient and they care. The salon experts are talented, friendly and really listen to what you are asking for and then they DELIVER! I had Tabitha as my stylist and she really rocked styling my totally grey hair. (not an easy job) I also put in a little turquoise streaks (ok, a lot) and it ended up looking so great that people stop me on the street to tell me how fantastic it looks. I have tricky hair that doesn't take to blonde very easily, and Tia takes the time, care, and effort to give me gorgeous, natural looking, blonde highlights. I'd been thinking about the big chop for months and finally got up the courage to do it last week, and I am SO HAPPY I did. I spent the last ten years being totally haircut averse and letting my hair grow out to my hips and then begrudgingly trimming it and hating the way it looked. I made an appointment with Tia, who is new at Sequioa, and she was amazing. She listened to everything I wanted and gave me exactly what I was looking for, in addition to really easy and useful tips for maintenance, styling, and products. I got a layered piecey bob and was so nervous the layers would look like crap (I have thick, smooth hair that tends to look awkwardly blunt and shows every imperfection) but Tia thinned and layered it so beautifully. After 4 different experiences at a really popular salon in town, I was fed up of getting my hair jacked every single time. I imagine Sequoia Salon sees this bad review coming from a mile away. If you don't want the backstory cut to the last paragraph. I have had my hair done for 1 and 1/2 years from Leah. The last time there were some mistakes made and then some baffling outcomes. At my last color appointment she left the glaze on for about 30 secs and rinsed it right out, which confused me, but I trusted her. But after a couple hours and talking with friends one of whom is a stylist they said go have her redo it. It was inconvenient, but okay. I called back that day, made an appt the next day for a consult, everyone agreed, no color had stuck to my hair (I refrained from pointing out it was because the color had been immediately rinsed out). I needed a third appt the next week to have it fixed. Leah said the color just didn't stick, her solution: go mix up more color, douse my hair in it, saran wrap it, and stick me under the heat blower for a half hour. *-None of this is why I am leaving a one star review, I was fine with this because mistakes happen! We'll get to the bad review in a moment. This sorta worked but I had explicitly asked for no red tones, zero red tones, I made clear with pictures I wanted a nice brown color underneath, lowlights, and highlights and no red tones on top. What I got was black underneath and orange/red tones on top. Even my boyfriend who is not aesthetically sensitive to these things noticed how bad it looked and said I should stop going to that stylist! A very out of character statement for him. He said "the black on bottom looks nasty" and I knew he was right. :_( (*-Still not why the bad review though.) I decided to see how it ages? Not well, the highlights became brassier, the black underneath stayed just as black. I wondered if she had used permanent dye instead of impermanent glaze. So cut to a couple months later, 2 days ago. And this is where it gets UNPROFESSIONAL and why I am leaving a 1 star review: I scheduled an appt with a new stylist to glaze my hair, Alyssa, no cut as I am growing it out after too short a cut.. My trust in Leah was faltering. I sat down and showed her the black underneath, told her it isn't what I wanted and asked her: why isn't it lightening like the red which also wasn't what I asked for? I asked if Leah had may be used permanent dye? how can I fix it? is it just ruined until it grows out? basically: how do I fix this? I said I thought it looked ugly, so did my boyfriend, and made clear to please put no red in it. She told me they use demi-permanent glaze -stronger than semi- and the only way to lighten it is bleaching and Leah would do that to my under layers. I said I'd rather not because my natural tones, the black tone, and more highlights mixed in will look muddy. So decided to leave it alone and just get a one-color, all-over glaze. No red please. And Alyssa did a great job! I left happy it still looks better than it did before. So thank you Alyssa. However... It is two days later. I just got a very WEIRD, unexpected call from Sherri, calling to say Alyssa told Leah I badmouthed her, which I did not, I liked Leah. In fact I had liked all these people so I gave the benefit of the doubt despite not liking the outcome. *This phone call was straight out of high school drama.* I felt pulled into a kind of hypersensitive, in-group, weirdness I want no part of. Sherri said they are a close-knit group there so only she, Sherri, could do my hair from now on...because they had apparently gotten so upset I didn't like what Leah did to my hair!?! I realize these are hair stylists not accountants but still I expect some level of maturity. This is just beyond poor business practice especially in something as customer service oriented as a hair salon; to alienate a customer like this as a result of a poor outcome in the first place is the opposite of what you are supposed to do. So I told Sherri just cancel my future appts. I am not dealing with unnecessary drama and inability to ask questions and tell them if they mess up my hair or instruct them on what I want in the first place. Absurdity. read more

I had my first appointment here today with Alyssa. So let me just say I had no clue what I wanted for my haircut. I was just bored of my too-grown-out hairstyle I had. Previously, my hairstylists were too cautious with my hair and didn't quite take into consideration my face shape (square) and my hair type (thin strands, lots of it) SO, Alyssa straight off (after asking what I was leaning toward and myself replying that, I don't know) recommended cutting it short and angling it to resemble the angles of my jaw, which for me is very prominent. This was so helpful for me. Right away I could tell she understood what I would look great in. She also was understanding of my need to be able to put my hair up away from my face. All in all, she knows what she's doing. My hair is amazing and she also recommended some products I might like (without being too pushy) She also explained everything she was doing so I didn't feel out of the loop. The employees at the front desk (I'm so sorry I forgot their names..) were SO nice and welcoming! I'm definitely keeping this place as my go-to. read more

Sequoia is by far the best salon I've ever been to. I can been really particular about my hair, and Sequoia is the only salon that lives up to my barely-realistic-Pinterest worthy expectations. The staff is friendly, professional, and extremely talented. Their products are magical. Tia lifted my hair from black (dyed) to dark blonde with very little damage and almost no brassiness. That is NOT an easy thing to do. She is so considerate of all of my goals and opinions. From what I've seen, the other stylists seem great, too. From the minute I was greeted at the front door and shown around the beautiful space all the way through my hair appointment with Rachel it was outstanding. I came to Rachel with extensive hair damage from a prior salon and she walked me through the entire process explaining what had happened. My prior stylist blamed me, which Rachel assured me was not the case. She explained what we would need to do to get my hair healthy again and even after the first visit I have seen an improvement. Had been going here for awhile a few years back when Sarah was a stylist there and loved everything about the salon. The vibe, the cleanliness and relaxing atmosphere. I am not the type to give a bad review, but after struggling with my hair my whole life and usually being so sad about my curly, frizzy hair, most stylists have helped me. Unfortunately, not with Allysah. She gave me a "blunt" haircut. Worst haircut of my life. In my 34 years, I have never been so sad. I know my hair is not very cooperative, but for a hair stylist to give a curly haired girls "blunt" haircut, we should be aware. Just went to Sequoia to get my first real hair cut in years. I had been growing it out mostly by just ignoring it and had started to really hate the way it looked. I have curly/wavy/frizzy hair, so getting my hair cut (especially at a new place) is always TERRIFYING. I finally decided to just go for it, found Sequoia online, and got an appointment with Tia. She was fantastic - she talked to me about the cut I wanted before we got started and discussed my hair texture and what it tended to do at different lengths before even taking out the scissors. Then she cut it partially dry so it wouldn't dry super short after the cut! She also helped with some ideas of how to manage it at the new length, which have worked amazingly well - I feel like normally you get suggestions but it never really goes well at home, but this is the opposite. I would highly recommend her to anyone, particularly anyone with textured/thick/curly hair. read more

A friend recommended Shari, and she transformed my attitude towards my hair. I hate getting my haircut, I'll be honest. I've been jarred in the past! But I have come to the realization that after trying to grow my hair out, I'm not a long hair person. I heard good things about Sequoia and decided to check it out. I'm so happy that I did! First of all, I was greeted warmly by the receptionist and offered a variety of drinks. Second of all, the salon itsself is gorgeous with this cool industrial-esque ceiling and gorgeous wood details everywhere. And there's pictures of farm animals. Which is totally my thing. But I digress! Rachel is a wonderful stylist. She took the time to tell me what she was doing to my hair and why she was doing it. I have thick hair and after 27 years, I still can't manage it. Rachel was sweet, made me feel at ease right away, and made the whole process awesome!
