I felt personally violated. So I was very nervous going into my first appointment Dr. Shah. I chose Dr. Shah based on several good reviews that I read online. His bedside manner was as explained in the reviews. Very kind, very patient, very informative, very "gentle." We discussed all of my options. I felt like he really took his time with me. He and I decided on the best next course of action for me to get well. For only the second time in regards to this very painful and potentially dangerous medical condition, I felt HEARD. Specifically, that Dr. Shah understood my trepidation and concerns about upcoming medical procedures. After my initial consult, somehow something got lost.In translation. Dr. Shah did refer me to another specialist; however, it was not as we had discussed in office. Since my initial visit, I have had a subsequent telehealth with Dr. Shah. Once again he addressed all of my questions. And offering telehealth is so incredibly convenient, particularly when mobility and transportation is an issue. Next step is to readdress a new referral and move forward on my medical journey. I feel like I'm in good hands...physically and metaphorically. As far as the clinic, making an appointment was really simple. Everyone at the front desk is super nice and helpful. My in office appointment was right on time. I set in the very crowded waiting room for about five minutes. I was pleasantly surprised. I recommend Dr. Shah for your medical speciality care needs. He manages to make the really not so fun and scary stuff somewhat not as bad. :)

Transferring to TFC was the best decision we ever made. Dr Silverberg not only helped us conceive our baby boy through IVF, but he also discovered I was diabetic. Dr Silverberg is there for his patients, and he also got to the root cause of my miscarriages and after two procedures and the removal of all the polyps, I was finally able to have a successful pregnancy. I honestly wasn't sure we'd be able to have a baby until I met Dr. Silverberg. We will always be grateful to Dr. Silverberg and his team for helping us make our dream a reality. Our baby boy was born this fall! I can't tell you the amount of times I've emailed and called Dr. S's team with a billion questions, and they always met me with patience and compassion. Be sure to ask questions and voice any symptoms or concerns that you have at your appointments, because sometimes visits can go fast. If you forget, simply leave a message for the nurse line, and they will get back to you. After sharing with Dr S's team where I was mentally and physically with the IVF process, the team worked with me to find an IVF transfer protocol that met me where I was. IVF in general can be very mentally and physically draining, so be sure to let the team know how you're feeling if it becomes too much. I also had the privilege of having a couple of covering visits by Dr. Hansard and Dr Vaughn, who were excellent! I was met with compassion and patience at the visits with both of them. IMO these doctors are definitely worth the wait time. That's how you know they spend time with their patients and THEY CARE. Any great doctor's office typically has a wait time. I highly recommend this clinic for anyone struggling with infertility. The one learning curve I did have transferring from another clinic was figuring out how contacting the nurse team and doctor worked. At the last clinic, I was able to message them directly in a portal. At this clinic, you have to call and pick the correct extension depending on the day and time. So when you meet with your nurse on the first day, make sure you ask them the proper procedure for that and make sure you understand it. Once you've figured that out, it's pretty straightforward. Dr S's nurse team is stellar, and they are really on top of things. If only every doctor's office had a team like that! They have spoiled me with how good they are! Another thing is to stay on top of is the billing with the billing dept since appointments and procedures happen frequently. That's the one thing I wish I was more on top of and kept better track of, especially in the beginning of the journey.

Dr. Julie Reardon has surpassed my wildest expectations of what a family physician CAN--and is willing--to do. I think that's in part because she is a phenomenal physician and person, and I suppose the Harvard education and work with Dr. Andrew Weil doesn't hurt. I'll add that all of the folks in her office are equally as competent and caring. If you are contemplating a visit to Dr. Reardon, it's because you haven't been feeling as well as you should--probably for quite some time. Your insurance-covered doctor has run some general tests that haven't shown anything all that extraordinary; and while you may greatly respect your PCP as I do, you realize that time and budget constraints limit the ability to which they can explore your issues. You may have been told that it's your impending menopause, or your weight, or that you perhaps should consider antidepressants. This is the state of medicine in our current era of managed care, and it's nobody's fault. Sometimes it just IS. Know that, if you can afford her services, "Dr. Julie" will leave no stone unturned in helping you find that road to recovery. She's not one of those "vanity doctors" who will hand you creams, diets, and vitamins to make you ageless and extra hot...although feeling better usually makes you look better! She's a serious, science-based physician with an uncanny ability to relate the typically unrelated, and see the "big picture" of your health situation. In our initial visit, she caught on to trending issues I'd never thought of before, including a potential genetic makeup that leaves me prone to certain problems with mood and energy level that are exacerbated by stress...and I've had a year of that! She ran a gamut of tests after explaining the purpose of each one, and uncovered a problem so critical it was a wonder I even had the energy to get out of bed in the morning. I am no less impressed with our follow-up discussions. She has referred to another provider for an area outside of her realm, and also recommended simple vitamin and supplement changes that will do me a world of good. At the same time, she's not that earth-crunchy guru that's going to mandate that that you live on purified air and chants...hers are moderate lifestyle changes for real people living in our everyday world. Dr. Julie doesn't take insurance, but that allows her to spend true quality time with the patients who sign on with her. I will say that, for the fees involved, I feel like it's been a very good choice for my healthcare dollars. I am finally getting some solid answers as to why I've felt HORRIBLE over just this last year, and I finally feel confident knowing someone's got my back while I take steps to get better. I think there are a lot of docs out there who dream of having a practice like Dr. Julie's--and she has made that dream a reality. When I think about how quickly Dr. Julie started "cracking the case", and all the co-pays and labs past that never quite addressed my issue, I realize that I have now SAVED time and money in the long run. I had a CT scan with contrast that was all clear minus a very small ovarian cyst. He advised me that no other type of scan would help and that there is nothing a CT scan with contrast could have missed that's related to my symptoms. He also said sometimes he wishes he could fake symptoms to get scans so he could rule out anything serious. That made me tear up and I told him that I am not faking symptoms to get scans - he immediately said he wasn't implying that. Just that I'm lucky to know it's not cancer or something more serious. My father has stage 3 colon cancer , my best friend has breast cancer, my work supervisor and friend"s mom has stage 4 brain cancer - so yes, I agree it's great a CT scan did not show any signs of that. Said I should come back if this gets worse (I went to see him because it was getting worse and my PCP had told me maybe I just needed a vacation). As any parent of a kid like mine knows , we don't have time to go to the doctors for ourselves. If I'm here , it's because it's already worse.

Last month Dr Fass did surgery on a large Para-esophageal Hernia with Nissan Fundiplication-he used a DaVinci Robot-He advised a 3 day post op stay-he did such a great job and I was up and about the next morning independently in my room-i discharged on day 2 post operation. He visited me daily. I like his bedside manner, He is caring but very confident and gives explicit directions on follow up care. Prior to surgery he gave me a very good picture of what to expect. He even advised there was a YouTube video that I could observe on the procedure he would be doing. He did not require any gastric surgery to be done when I had this repair unlike another surgeon where I was being treated prior. My incisions healed very nicely and very quickly with no signs or symptoms of infection. I highly recommend Dr. Steven Fass for general surgery as well as bariatric surgery.

Since then. I've tried to get in three times for various reasons (including that refill) and could never get in within 3 days. Yesterday I came down with something nasty (bronchitis?) and thought, "great, I'll make an appointment, get an antibiotic, and finally get that refill." I called them up and was pleasantly surprised to get an appointment the next day at 12:45, which I repeated back to them and immediately wrote down.. No such luck! I got there early, pleased to see NO ONE in the waiting room only to be told that they had me down at 11:45 and could not see me, and no, they wouldn't refill my prescription. I asked why they didn't call me at 11:45 - I live two minutes away and could have been there immediately. The reception said, "we don't do that, we assume you forgot." That was the last straw! I called River Hills Family Medicine (in River Place) and explained the situation. Even though I was a NEW patient, they got me in immediately. Their staff is pleasant, professional, helpful, and compassionate. They have been referred to me by many people in the past - I'm just sorry I didn't listed to them sooner! Has anyone else had similar issues since they went down to only one Dr. at Steiner Ranch Primary Care? They were an excellent addition to our great community. Dr. Ikbal is shockingly misinformed about nutrition, pushing urban legends that were disproved…read moredecades ago. This is all the more astounding because nutrition was her undergraduate degree. She also doesn't appear to practice evidence-based medicine. After her asking me what I eat in a typical day, she asked, "Where do you get your protein?" (Ugh. The idea that protein is hard to come by is flatly wrong and severely outdated. As Dr. Nestle, chair of the NY University nutrition dept. said, *26* years ago "We never talk about protein anymore, because it's absolutely not an issue, even among children. If anything, we talk about the dangers of high-protein diets. Getting enough is simply a matter of getting enough calories." The DV/RDA is ~8% of calories from protein, while grains are ~13% protein, vegetables 23%, etc.) She then tried to tell me that I had to combine plants foods to get a complete protein. (That was an urban legend promoted by a popular 1971 book, whose author recanted ten years later. The USDA nutrient database shows that individual vegetables, grains, and beans have all essential amino acids, in higher amounts than what we need.) Finally, she said I should eat more fat. I asked if there were science to support the idea that an addition of fat to an otherwise healthy diet improves health outcomes. Her reply was like, "I've been a doctor for 20 years...." Meaning, no science. By the way, she asked why I chose her, and I said that one of her patients wrote in a review about how he was able to get off all his meds for Crohn's Disease. Dr. Ikbal replied that the patient took himself off the meds, it wasn't her doing. Anyway, after hearing so much misinformation in just a brief, limited interaction, I have to wonder what other misinformation Dr. Ikbal is operating on. If you want a physician who practices evidence-based medicine, you'll probably want to look elsewhere. UPDATE: After I left the above review, suddenly DOZENS of glowing 5-star reviews appeared within a few days, about 1/3 of which are from people not even in the Austin area, many not even in the same state, and many of whom have zero other reviews on Yelp. Yelp has understandably moved most of these to the "Reviews Not Recommended" section. Is Dr. Ikbal buying fake reviews? Draw your own conclusions.
