Arise/Westlake kept our $8,000 hostage for 19 months! Billing, billing, billing. Notice that almost all the bad reviews about Arise are about billing. When you go to Arise or Westlake Hospital, please never pay anything up front! They will tell you that they will bill insurance and if you overpaid, you will get a refund. But, that seems to never be true, based on reading the reviews here and based on our experience. (Arise handles billing and insurance for Westlake Hospital, we found out a year after a surgical procedure at Westlake). If insurance ever gets billed, and if you ever get a refund, it will only be after many calls and much work and nagging on your part. And, since you won't receive a bill from Arise/Westlake (because you pre-paid and nothing is owed), you will be in the dark about what the charges are, and you won't even know if insurance was billed or not because you don't know what the charges are! Did we get a refund? Yes, after 19 months of calls, emails, frustration, and visiting the Arise billing office in person, we finally got our overpayment of $8,000+ refunded to us. What went wrong? 1) Arise never even billed our insurance for the wrist surgery. They were not motivated to bill insurance because we had already paid them for the procedure. We finally got them to bill the insurance after a year of calling, and finally visiting the Arise office in person. We were extremely lucky that the insurance paid the bill even though it was filed slightly more than 12 months after the procedure. 2) Arise had to "approve" the billing of insurance for the procedure! What? Why? I don't know. Thankfully, they "approved" it, but I've never even heard of such. Billing insurance for a procedure should be automatic, right?? 3) When I called Westlake about billing the insurance, the person I talked to couldn't actually send a bill to insurance, and couldn't tell us if the bill had been sent. Why? Because she worked for Westlake. And, Arise handles the billing. This problem seemed completely insurmountable. We didn't know that Arise handled the billing. We didn't understand the problem. Finally, we drove to Westlake to talk to someone in person about billing, and we were told that we had to drive over to Arise instead. After talking to folks at Arise, we finally understood why it was useless to call the billing department at Westlake. 4) After Arise finally billed insurance, and our insurance fully paid for the procedure, we were then told "Your money is not refundable". Nobody ever wants to hear that. The person was wrong and they never should have said something like that. It would have been insurance fraud to not refund our money after they received payment for the same procedure twice (once from us; once from insurance). 5) After Westlake/Arise agreed to refund our money, it took almost 60 days to receive a refund check in the mail. This is in violation of the law in Texas which requires the patient be refunded their money within 30 days of recognizing that the patient is due a refund. 6) Fundamentally, there is a BIG BIG problem here. The billing of the insurance should happen automatically, and should not have required any phone calls or in-person visits. And, refunding a customer over-payment should occur automatically. Nothing ever happened without our interference. It is as though I was their unpaid employee working for countless hours on my own behalf. Without my intervention and numerous hours spent they would have done nothing at all. I can't possibly write about all the aggravation, frustration, and time spent on this problem. If we had taken no action, we would never see our $8,000 refunded for sure. read more

Too bad there is not a rating for ZERO for their billing department! We overpaid when I had surgery on 7/22/2021 and we have attempted numerous times to speak to somebody. No one answers emails and no one returns phone calls. Our insurance company has also attempted a number of times to reach them in this regard but to no avail. Make sure when you prepay for surgery that the pricing is correct because if not, goodbye to your money. We are going to make our attorney aware of this situation. It's too bad that a very pleasant surgical experience had to be tainted by this complete disregard for our request for contact. The withholding of our money amounts to stealing in my book. While I have no issue with the facility itself - it's the misleading business/billing practices that I want to warn future patients about. I had a procedure (kidney stone) there on April 3, 2019 . Everything went smoothly - nothing that wasn't planned for. During registration I was told I didn't need to pay anything - I informed them that I was to pay something and they checked and say "oh yes, you owe $xxx.xx" which I gladly paid. They stated the balance owed - and said "the maximum I would owe would be an additional $xxx.xx" - but they were waiting to hear back from my insurance. 2 months later I received a bill from Arise that is 50% more than the stated amount. When I called them to discuss a few things happened: 1. they offered to send me an explanation of benefits - which is just a form with a ton of codes on it - not an itemized break down - useless unless you are aware of the custom codes they use. 2. they stated that when they said the "maximum amount I was going to owe" well.. that was just a quote. (no - afraid not. A quote is, you'll owe between x & y - not this is the maximum you will owe) 3. They tried to say it was because of the dr and it had to do with his pay. Umm.. sorry, paid the dr separately - so nope - wrong again. Dr is paid in full, so is the anesthesiologist - try again! I spoke with Lorraina (sp?) who was of literally no help what-so-ever. This is an antiquated process where they bill your insurance as much as they can - and whatever isn't paid is up to the patient. I find it hard to believe that they had my insurance well in advance, they have done this procedure (kidney stone) hundreds of times - but their "estimate" can be off by 50%. Of course she gave me the number to Caleb her manager (doubtful). And he has yet to return any of my calls and I doubt he will. If you are having a procedure there I highly recommend getting everything in writing. If they aren't willing to put it in writing, you can bet you'll be paying a lot more than they quoted you. Again - the facility is great. Billing is an old, antiquated method of getting as much money as possible from both the insurance company and the patient by giving misleading info. read more

My orthopedic referred me to Arise and I was pretty blown away by their staff. Every single person I encountered was incredibly helpful and they all seemed genuinely happy to be there. From the folks setting up my appointment over the phone to the cleaning staff who stopped to ask how my day was. I overheard a minor issue with a patient who was in the bathroom when her name was called. Honest mistake, and the staff handled it quickly even though the woman was clearly upset that she may have lost her place in line. They offered her a water bottle and assured her that she was still next in line. It's hard to encounter many customer-facing professionals who are in a good mood these days. So, seeing a whole staff of them was a breath of fresh air. Keep up whatever you're doing! read more

Had first spinal steroid injection at another facility & refused to return there for 2nd. Dr scheduled me at Arise. HUGE difference! Staff was patient, efficient, friendly. Everyone seemed happy to work there, eager for my comfort & other patients in with me were repeat customers. ;) HOPE this injection does the trick for me, but if not I'll DEFINITELY return to Arise! read more

While the nursing staff where incredibly friendly, the quality of nursing care was poor to mediocre. One nurse did not empty the foley without reminders & did not consistently wear a mask. Overall, sanitization practices were not consistent. Floors were not sanitized after an improperly closed foley leaked. With the exception of one transition, nursing staff did not appear to communicate well across shifts. read more

I should have read the other 1-star reviews before coming here, but I was referred by another doctor so I had no reason to think this place would be sketchy. DO NOT SIGN THE NEW PATIENT CONTRACT WITHOUT READING IT. They have a billing agreement hiding in the paperwork that essentially says "I agree to pay ANY amount in full." It's like signing a blank check! I asked for a price estimate before I would sign the paperwork and they told me "don't worry, it's only $300." I demanded an itemized estimate, as their contract says they will provide an estimate upon request. Here's where it gets sketchy: they couldn't / wouldn't give me an estimate! Again, they say "just sign it, it's fine." Then they admit there might be a few extra fees because "different people bill their own rates". BINGO! Come for a $300 visit, leave with extra hidden fees because you didn't read the paperwork. Seems like other folks leaving reviews here fell for this racket, I'm glad I read before signing. At best this is a deceptive billing practice. At worst, they are intentionally pulling a bait-and-switch on their patients. Either way, it's probably best to avoid this place. read more

My 3-year-old son went in to get his tonsils removed, and this place did everything they could to make him feel comfortable and ease our worried minds. The pre-op staff was awesome. They were so friendly to my son, playing around with him and making him laugh. Even the anesthesiaologist joked around with my son. The post-op staff was just as friendly and patient with my crying son and helped calm him down. They were always willing to make sure all of us were comfortable while we waited to see how my son was doing. Everything from the endless supply of Popsicles and apple juice to making sure he had enough pillows to sleep. Also, I want to give a shout out to the office staff and John who were willing to give us a tour a couple of weeks before the surgery to help ease our minds. Everyone at this place is amazing, and if we have to do any further surgeries (hopefully not any soon) then this place would be my number one choice. read more

My husband had not one, but two different knee surgeries at Arise. The first surgery took place in October. Came in for the early morning surgery, Checked in with the receptionists, everything went smoothly. Sat down to wait on the nurse and the nicest nurse came to greet us within 5 min. Pre-Op was smooth with nurses and doctors coming to check in on us frequently. Every single person we came across was professional and personable. The surgery went smoothly. Post-op, my husband woke up pretty soon after the surgery. Normally he's not a big talker, but lemme tell ya, anesthesia does weird things, so he talked and talked and talked to those poor nurses. Not once did any of them show any signs of frustration or lack of caring. Our next surgery was just as smooth as the first. Post-op my husband wasn't the social butterfly he was at the first surgery and the nurses were once again, professional and personable. Our experience with Arise was nothing but 5 stars. read more

During my aquablation procedure and stay there, the nurses and the staff were caring and hardworking people.

I was sent to Arise Medical Center for a pre-op evaluation for neck surgery. To be specific, I was sent to Dr Smiley's practice within Arise. The EKG found something anomalous, so I was referred to a cardiologist by Arise. The cardiologist did a cardio angiogram on me and shortly thereafter cleared me for the surgery. The surgeon received the all clear from the cardiologist within a week. The surgeon still has not received the all clear from Arise, a month later. According to the surgeon's scheduler, who called Arise herself, the doctor who did the pre-op still has not signed off on the clearance. I'm living in pain, and my life is essentially on hold, because the doctor at Arise can't be bothered to sign a piece of paper and fax it to the surgeon. I've tried calling Arise repeatedly over the last few weeks, sometimes multiple times per day, but I'm always forwarded to "the pre-op clinic", which goes to a generic voicemail, and I never get a call back. Today I called and the phone just rang off the hook with no answer at all. It's looking like they're going to force me to go up there and actually stand in front of their counter until they do their jobs and get the clearance signed so that I can get my surgery done, which I can't even get scheduled because Arise can't get their act together. If you are being sent here for a pre-op, take my advice and ask to be sent elsewhere. This place is terrible. read more

My son had surgery in Nov. At the time they told me my portion of the procedure was $3500. I questioned it because I knew the deductible and max out-of-pocket had been met. They said they called and confirmed it and I went ahead and paid. (Son is covered on ex's insurance). In December insurance confirmed it was covered and Arise was paid. I called Arise and they said they hadn't received payment yet. I called at the beginning of January. They confirmed receipt of payment and said they would mail me a refund check. I called at the beginning of Feb because I still hadn't received it. They said the manager would sign the check on 2/12 and then they would mail it. I waited several weeks and gave them the benefit of the doubt since we had the snow storm. I've called several times since and they still haven't mailed the refund check. As of today, 3/9, I still don't have it. They have kept $3500 that didn't belong to them for 3 1/2 months. That's theft in my book. Not to mention I was there waiting during my son's surgery. They waited until they loaded him in my car in pain before giving me the post-op instructions in the car. So he sat their writhing for 15 minutes when they could have provided that info to me at any time during the 6-7 hours I was waiting. read more

I went Arise for a rotator cuff repair. Dr.Albrecht ended up having to repair 3 tendons and a bone Issue in the shoulder. He done an amazing job and was very quick. The staff from the time we arrived, the receptionist was very polite, knowledgeable and handled all paperwork with a breeze! The Nurse car an was super nice and very knowledgeable, we had the or nurse the anesthesia doc and nurse I don't recall but about 5-6 nurses and docs, all were super nice and extremely knowledgeable! My husband went here for shoulder surgery with Dr. Welsh and we can't say anything but good about the medical staff and the treatment we received. Everyone was professional and personable and made a painful time painless. Lynn and Stephanie were our nurses pre and post op and they were both awesome. I was very pleased with all aspects of your facility including the care of the staff and medical attention

Problems have been adding up over the last year, and pushed me over the ledge on my last visit. As a result I'm lowering my rating by 2 stars. I do want to mention that since I posted my first review in 2014, I have had blocks and injections done at least every three months from that date to the present, and all the staff now great me by name. I thank Arise for replying, and because Kate, Brandon, and the many others have provided such wonderful care, I hope that they quickly address issues with newer nurses. Kate nor a much more senior nurse was working when I was there and it showed. I do want to emphasize that reaching a human in the Billing Dept to even discuss whether I had a credit, payment, or issue has been an issue throughout my entire experience at Arise. My frustration with that experience stands as I have raised this issue to various staff members multiple times. My review: Why I'm still mostly happy: the checkin staff is still very friendly, when someone has to come with me WIFI is free, and there are plenty of places to plugin happily and work. Most of the nurses and medical assistants in the pre-op and OR areas seem to enjoy what they are doing, know their "frequent flyers", and do the best they can at keeping us comfortable. And now, why two stars have been removed 1. Billing issues: After meeting my Out Of Pocket FOR THE YEAR (yes that's right) back in June, making a payment (and having it refunded during that timeframe?!?) I never again heard from the Billing Dept about amounts I may have owed prior to that--Then we reach mid October: I receive 2 notices within 5 days escalating their intent to collect for a procedure done in March (and a completely separate, calm normal bill for a procedure in June). I call, leave a detailed long VM (as told by voicemail) and wait 48 hrs (also as told by VM). During the next 12 hours I get the 3rd notice/collection threat (???) and have to work all my various numbers to find a human and not a machine. In the end I (think) my account is settled. Seriously folks? Oh, after discussing that "a note would be put in my file to give me time to verify the payments I HAD made (since I no longer had credit card statements from 1H2016 at my fingertips)" I received another letter. By that point I had paid the amount determined by Arise I owed for both procedures. Hiring more humans might save a few hundred trees, plus added billing costs for mail and print charges. 2. Nurse in Pre-OP today 11/9/2016: I'm trying to just assume this person was having a horrible day, but because of everything it's quite difficult. Maybe this nurse stayed up all night watching election returns and needed a drink, but please don't get upset at the patients!! Unfortunately when a patient is hooked up to blood pressure/blood oxygen/pulse machines, your mood is incredibly hard to hide (esp when I'm there for Pain Relief). Nothing I did (including apologies from a clueless pain patient) helped. Guess what: people with high levels of PAIN start out generally in a grumpy mood, which can go south depending on what's going on with the staff. But things are usually much better when we come OUT with pain meds injected. You just pushed me needlessly onto another colleague. I just want competent care, with a touch of warmth, which is what I always receive at Arise until today from this female nurse. Arise patients apparently participate in the training of new nurses, but this is NOT a teaching hospital. This time the "trainee" failed. read more

Had a myleogram done here. The experience was one of the best I've ever had in terms of care received. If you've ever had a myleogram, you'll know that is saying a lot. First, they had me arrive an hour early to get me prepped. Wait time in the lobby was minimal. About 10 minutes, and then they called me for prep. At prep, I was met by GENUINELY smiling faces. It was instantly obvious the Techs and Nurses are very happy working here. A big plus when you're about to get a damn spinal tap. Professional warmth is such a great thing. Thanks again Ladies! The procedure was accomplished with a local anesthetic, and was over with very quickly. The doctor's bedside manner was reassuring and jovial. After the ink was in my spine, we went through a series of x-rays. I was then stood up like Frankenstein using the table to help me stand. We all had a laugh about that. ;-) Next was a CAT scan, and then whoosh! Off to recovery. The recovery nurse, Alicia was so very attentive and kind. Calm and reassuring. Real smiles. She instantly handed us menu's from the lunch room and had a nice lunch brought for my wife and I. One of the nicest recovery room experiences I've ever had. Discharge was short and sweet. I had no residual headaches or pain from the procedure. This place is a class act! Hope they stay that way!~ read more

I had back surgery here last week, and I cannot overstate how wonderful the staff and facility was! From the people working the front desk, to the myriad of support staff in the OR, everyone was genuinely concerned with my wellbeing and comfort. It seems like whoever is in charge of hiring was able to find the top 1% of all applicants and convince them to work here. Really! They were all THAT good! And I'm a crotchety old man to boot! If you gotta have surgery and this place is a choice, you can't go wrong. The facility is brand new and hyper clean too. read more

Arise was a pleasant surprise. It's location was convenient for me. They did require me to have a pre surgery meeting, which I can see shows that they cared, however this could of easily been accomplished over the phone in 10 minutes. So not wasn't a big fan of that. What really makes Arise shine is the people who where there to care for me. All the nurses, anesthetics and front house help. They were patient and friendly. They made sure I was as comfortable as possible and professional. Check in and check out was a breeze. I like the newness of this place along with free wifi. read more

10 STARS!! Had to to got ER and looked up what facilities are in my network. Arise was the closest to my work. They were very responsive in the ER - new to the area and NEVER felt pain like this before so I knew that I was going to get admitted. Fast forward, I was admitted. Nurses were all attentive. It's like a boutique hospital. One night a nurse came in and asked if I wanted any aromatherapy. They put either lavender or peppermint oil on a cotton ball, put it in a paper cup and place it in your room. Heck, they don't even do that at some spas! All the nurses and tech staff were soooo accommodating and kind. All I could eat was ice chips for the first 48 hours of my stay and I was eating it like all the ice would melt in 10 seconds. They kept on refilling my pitcher and not a sneer or any eye rolls. The food. I can't say much of the food cause all I could eat were clear liquids and then liquids. I had strawberry, vanilla and blueberry and vanilla protein shakes and they rocked!! It was at least a 18-20 oz. I was surprised how large it was. I couldn't finish it all but they were sooo yummy!! I also had tomato soup, veggie broth, chicken broth, lots of jello, lots of popsicles, ice cream and tea. Basic on all these. The rooms were VERY nice. Cherrywood stained cabinets, the walls looked like blueish gray walls. The bathroom is very nice. The lighting above the sink look like chandelier. Besides Dr. J. Abikhaled, the surgeon (please look at my review under Austin Surgeons), Dr Vu was great. She had great bedside manner, informative, and patient. The only negative would be is that the TV is a bit small. The location of the bed is on the other side of the room and it was a bit difficult to see. **Update. I have to admit I don't like surgery. Who does? The staff was great in pre-op. They were very nice and informative every step going in. The post-op staff was even more fantastic. I had surgery on the bottom of my foot this morning and I just wanted to share how impressed I was with the whole process. I got there at 6:50 A.M. (needed to be there at 7). The front desk lady (Evelyn?) made it easy to get processed and sign paper work. Maybe around 7:30am, my pre op nurse (Cara) was fantastic. So kind and made my apprehension of surgery a breeze! She was so sweet! The anesthesia doctors were great and informative before surgery as well. Once I woke up in the recovery room, the nurse who took care of me was just as great, sweet and friendly. The facility was clean, all the staff were great, and I would definitely return if I needed surgery again. Thank you, Arise Staff!! read more

Horrible. They just changed my physical therapy to this company. Lost all of my appointments. I had to reschedule all over again. Give them all my information again. It was like starting all over. My favorite therapist/chiropractor is only at the office two mornings a day because of the "new management". It took me over 45 minutes just to get information about an upcoming appointment because they had no information on me. Yet they informed patients 6 weeks prior to the change. Famous excuse was, the computers had problems. First impressions are everything. In my book, my impression is that Arise has sunk ######### With in three hours of posting this Carol Barrera called to discuss the matter with me and clear up the problems I was encountering. I truly appreciate her time and personal attention. I am hopeful to get a new start with Arise. Thank you Carol. You get my five stars. read more

When I had surgery, 1.5 years ago, upon check in I paid my estimated remaining Max Out of Pocket amount. Arise assured me, if I overpaid based upon the order of claims processed they would process a refund. Well, if they say the same thing to you - don't believe it. Not only am I owed a refund, Arise began sending invoices to me indicating I owed A LOT more. Interestingly enough, the amount fluctuated - sometimes it was $3k, sometimes $5k, and sometimes $6k. This additional amount was literally impossible as my Max Out of Pocket was $2,500 and had been met. I have spoken to so many people at Arise. Initially I thought it would be okay as the person I worked with confirmed I was owed a refund and began to process it. But then the Team Lead stopped my refund - that's when the problems began. I have called so many times, spoken to so many people, even my surgeon has called the CEO and it's gotten me no where (to keep track of it all - I have it all documented). I have filed a BBB and an Attorney General complaint to have it on record. My insurance has confirmed time and time again I owed them less than I paid upon check in but Arise continues to hold my refund hostage. It's gotten so bad, that I am needing another surgery and I am canceling with my surgeon as he is doing surgeries exclusively at Arise. So be warned if you go there - very likely you will never see your money if you are owed a refund. Looking through the reviews, this is not a "one off" scenario and it's a trend there. Plus the people I have spoken to have been extremely rude, which is just making it even worse. If this does happen to you, I highly suggest filing a BBB and an Attorney General complaint. Not that it will fix anything, but it will show the pattern to the correct people. read more

This the worst medical facility I have been exposed to and had to deal with the staff. My spouse had outpatient surgery, the physician called me after the surgery with a report and I was told that a nurse would call me soon with an update. I did not receive a call from anyone at the facility, so I drove there. I entered the building and requested an update on my spouse. My spouse, my the way, has a complicated medical history. I was told by the personnel at the front desk that I would have to wait outside for a call. I left with a request that the call be received in 5 minutes, none came. I entered the building a second time and refused to leave until someone told me what was happening with my spouse, a nurse arrived, she knew nothing except to tell me to go outside. Again, I refused and the "Nurse Manager" came out and kept insisting I go outside, I refused. By this time it had been 3 hours since I spoke to the doctor and I was very concerned. After some heated discussion, I was told my spouse was admitted, this was not part of the plan and this increased my concern and I still did not have any information regarding his condition. My understanding was he would be discharged the following day, 2-3 hours later, a call came that he would be discharged in about 2 hours. When I arrived, I called to alert staff I was there and the number I was given only rang - No Answer. I went to the doorway and found a note with a buzzer that was not answered and an alternate phone number. I called and my spouse was brought out to the car. Discharge instructions were for a procedure he did not have. I called the facility to discuss issues with the Administrator and was talking to a Charge Nurse who did not know how I could reach the Chief Operating Office. This facility is dangerous and has not appreciation for family. read more

Everything about my knee replacement surgery went well. The Arise staff had me checked in quickly and well handled in Pre-op. My orthopedic surgeon, Dr Smoot of Texas Orthopedics did a terrific job and the nursing and after surgery care were excellent. I was in and out in about 24 hours and now doing rehab at home. When it's time to do the second knee I will be back. read more

Horrible place. Had neck surgery last December. They tried to collect more than my co-insurance amount, then told me the lowest monthly payment they could accept would be $500. This was at 5 am on the day of the surgery I was so scared would leave me paralyzed, after the receptionist yelled at me about standing in the wrong place to have my temp taken, using too much sanitizer and putting the clipboard down in the wrong place on the counter. Being scared, I cried. You should have seen the look that got me. Fast forward eight months. I have been calling and leaving messages with the billing department multiple times a day since Aug 13 to give updated payment info. Haven't gotten a single call back. My normal payment date is the 15th. Yesterday I just went ahead and made a $100 (I did manage to renegotiate my pmt amount a few months ago with the only decent human that works there) so they wouldn't turn me over to collections. Today I called again and got a live person! Who said my pmt from yesterday wasn't showing up! And told me if I gave them new cc info today the entire remaining balance of $189 would be charged to my account today! And there was nothing she could do about it! SO, just avoid this shady place. They are a bunch of greedy, heartless, money grubbing jerks deep in the heart of Westlake Hills. Perfect location for 'em. read more

Worst experience ever. Went into to have surgery on my wrist my doctor is a great doctor and surgeon. But this hospital is the worst 1st off they could not find my veins to start and Iv. Tried many locations to the point that my hand and wrist are swollen and bruised. Then the anesthesiologist was the worst ever, ask me when the last time I took my blood pressure and diabetes medicine .what ? just cause I am overweight you assume I take these when I do not. Ok we asked for someone else to do Iv and she stated she was the best . Really that's why my arm looks like that. I got up and walked out of pre.surgery feeling like if this woman put me under then I was not going to wake up. She could not answer any questions I had or treat me like a human . I had surgery at Arise in December. While I give this place 1 star I must say that my best experience at this hospital was right before I went under. The nurse how placed my IV was so sweet and gentle. She was my favorite person there. However. After my surgery I had asked for someone to bring my sister into my room 3 times before she was brought in. Meanwhile the respiratory therapist was telling me how to use this strange device that I suck air into. I did it once then forgot about it, for heavens sake I had JUST gotten out of surgery. A few hours later they asked if I wanted some food but I wasn't ready. My sister then decided to step out for some lunch. I paged someone to ask if I could have menu and nobody came. A while later my room phone rang and I was in a position (and fresh out of surgery) where I couldn't reach it. I paged the nurse to let her know that someone had called and I couldn't reach the phone. She repeated back to me what I had said then hung up on me. When my sister came back she was surprised no one had brought me anything, she had to find someone to bring me a menu. I had a lot of people come and visit me, I also had a foley catheter in as well. My bag was full and had not been dumped since placed. A tech came in to get my vitals and decided to change it in front of everyone. It was so full! That night one of the nurses asked me if I had been using the little sucky device, I said I used it once. She told me that I was supposed to have been using it 4 times an hour to prevent pneumonia! Now let me just say something here. When given instructions about how to prevent pneumonia after surgery, I feel it would have been helpful to instruct the companion of the patient after surgery because the patient is groggy and tired from the surgery! I was appalled. Also, there was a communication board in the room which she could have written instructions on. AND every single one of the times the nurses or techs came in to check on me could have asked my if I had been doing my exercises! It wasn't until the middle of the night that someone asked me that, and I had been out of surgery since 6 in the morning. The day after surgery I had a nurse check on me once in the morning and not again until around 4pm. At that point I was off my IV and ready to get the heck out of there. The general attitude of the staff was poor. I didn't meet a single nice nurse or tech after that. According to them it was very busy and short staffed. I get that, but patient care is important and they failed this patient. The kitchen staff was very nice though. read more

I'll start off with the positives: My pre-op staff was amazing. Lynn was my nurse and she was absolutely wonderful to work with. I was made to feel comfortable, and experienced no qualms on that arena. Now for my negatives. I went in for a surgery on my foot. My aftercare nurse was the opposite of Lynn. She wouldn't let my companion into the back room, was rude when she offered me crackers. I told her I didn't want any and she said well then you get no painkillers. Since I wasn't aware of that, I said I'll take the crackers. She then handed me two pills and I had to ask her what they were. She said they were percocets. I told her I don't generally take medicine, and was cautious of the side effects so I told her I would just take 1, and she said suit yourself. (The Percocet made me horribly sick 20 minutes later, I was glad I only took one). Now for the billing dept: I'd like to talk about this mainly because I hope other people take necessary precautions if they end up having to work with arise. Billing department didn't contact me prior to the surgery to let me know what my cost was. Not only did I come to my scheduled surgery to find out what my cost was - I was put on a payment plan for a specific amount, that turned out to be an estimate. Over the next couple of months my payment amounts went from $3,000+, to $20,000, to $1,200, back up to $3,000. Every step of the way arise said there was nothing they could do for me, and when I'd finally gotten close to the paying $1,200 (that was my "final cost"). I asked the billing dept that as soon as the numbers were concretely figured out, I would make the last payment (I owed about $150 more). A few months after that I received a bill for $1,290 more. I called and again, they offered no apologies for the roller coaster they placed me on. I'm so disheartened thinking that my car buying experience and debt, my student loan experience and debt was more honest and straight forward than my medical care. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. Please call your insurance company, get the numbers straight, ensure that they work with arise and that you have accurate ESTIMATES from Arise, and know that they are estimates no matter how arise tries to bamboozle you into believing otherwise. Used this surgical center for Carpal Tunnel release on Thursday 1.16.20. All of the team that got me through the procedure were just excellent. Shannon, Brenda, Justin, Dr Playfair, Dr Lown and the recovery nurse whose name i forgot could not have been better! thanks to all!! read more

Excellent facility. I operate here regularly and my patients are always pleased with the care they receive. No complaints.

The doctors and nurses created a safe and caring environment for my husband's back surgery. The administrative staff will hopefully be implementing better communication between them, the medical staff, and their patient's loved ones who are waiting in the lobby waiting for information about their loved one. The doctor saw me 4 hours before I was finally told he was in a room.. the room they left me in front of was dark and empty. Frantically I ran to the nurses desk where I was told "I should've come get you". My husband had been in the room long enough for the physical therapist to see him. Walk him around and for him to be served food. He was eating and said he was getting really worried about me. I had been sitting in the waiting room 6 hours by then. I had asked the front desk (who had called the nursing station in front of me) countless times, We also were sent home with used, blood stained durable equipment that we found when we got home. The administrative staff insists this was just another miscommunication. Their caring doctors and nurses shouldn't be blamed for the problems in the administrative department. Nevertheless, an establishment is only as good as their weakest employees. Arise needs to strive to be as good in the front as they are in the back. In our case, they failed not once but twice. The lady in charge of administration told us they didn't have enough money to allow their front desk to assist in helping hospital/patient/family communication. Yet, we received cookies at discharge and sent TIFF's Treats (which we refused) to our home. Our opinion is they should save the money they are spending in cookies. They should use it to facilitate communication in the waiting room of the hospital instead. They should use the money they spend in delivering cookies toward employing better communication skills.
