As someone who has struggled with stained teeth since having braces as a teenager, dealing with white spot lesions, yellowing, small pits and fissures, and frequent cavities, I never felt confident that my teeth could improve. I saw multiple dentists who told me my only option was veneers and often made me feel ashamed for being so young with teeth in such poor condition. It led me to feeling even more discouraged and it actually made my brushing habits worse because I felt embarrassed and hopeless about improving my teeth. But when I started seeing Dr. Horn, I never once felt that way. From the beginning, she made me feel supported and understood. She's been willing to work with me every step of the way and thoughtfully curated a treatment plan, that didn't include veneers! During my initial consult, we reviewed the photos they took of my teeth, and she had me point out which specific teeth I wanted her to focus on. She made it clear that I didn't have to commit to anything beyond what I was comfortable with, whether that was personally or financially, and that the plan could be tailored to my priorities. For my actual appointment, they offered me luxurious amenities from an entire menu! l got the heated neck pillow and headphones with cable TV, and they even surprised me with a smoothie afterwards! Dr. Horn also made sure to prep my lips with lip balm before starting anything, which was such a thoughtful touch and made the whole experience feel comfortable and genuinely caring. The results from my first appointment have been incredible and far exceeded any expectations I had. I remember saying during my initial consult that I just hoped to lessen some of the staining as much as possible, but it truly feels like it's almost entirely gone. I feel so happy and giddy when I look in the mirror now. I truly cannot recommend Dr. Horn and her team enough. Not only did they completely transform my smile, but they also transformed the way I feel about myself. For the first time in years, I feel confident, excited, and genuinely happy when I look in the mirror. I have been going to this dental clinic for years. The dentists and hygenists are all up to date on the latest technologies and treatments. Dentistry is highly technical and highly skill based. I can not say enough great things about Serene Oaks Dental. From the moment you walk in the door you feel calmed and cared for. The environment, the coffee, infused water, waterfall, and fireplace made me feel like I was at a spa, not a dental office. The list of amenities they offered were incrediable...hot stones, heated blanket,neck wrap, essential oils. Dr Horn and her assistant were so kind and caring to my daughter, who asked when we left "mom can we come here everytime I have to go to the dentist?" My daughter had been made fun of for the discoloration in her teeth and was very self conscious. Dr Horn was able to to make them look so beautiful and there are no words to express the gratitude I have for her and her work and the confidence it will bring my daughter to smile again. The good: the office is beautiful and conveniently located for those in the northern suburbs. The staff members are kind. They brought me coffee when I arrived and gave me a gift bag to welcome me when I left. The bad? I felt like I was buying a car except but with completely ridiculous interest rates. I can't speak to the experience patients have during regular checkups -- seems like they are really happy based on most reviews. But as somebody there for a cosmetic consult (somebody who brought up my financial limitations on many occasions) it just seemed like there wasn't a lot of sympathy for my situation. I get that good work is expensive, but the 'selling' felt overkill at times. I don't think cosmetic patients should feel pressured in the way buyers feel pressured at the used car lot. When I brought up my financial concerns once again, I was strongly encouraged to go with CareCredit, which, while certainly a viable option for some, felt worrisome given that the proposed plan would have ultimately cost me nearly $20,000 in INTEREST alone. Maybe that's not a big deal to Serene Oaks' typical patients, but it sure was for me. I felt heavily pressured to sign on the dotted line right then and there -- other places where I've had consults have at least encouraged me to go home and talk it over with my family. Again, this was strictly cosmetic work we're talking about, so my failure to sign on that day would not have harmed my health. I left feeling extremely defeated. Thank goodness I have since found a cosmetic dentist that does not pressure me or make me feel like a walking $ sign. read more

The dental clinic is good in terms of its environment, and the staff seems good. However, it did not care patients' interests. One thing to remember: be very careful when authorizing any treatment since the clinic does not check your insurance coverage and its charges are much higher than the normal. Also with regard to charge/bill, there are no consistent statements from time to time and from staff to staff. I only have short experience with this clinic, and suffered from the extreme high cost incurred to my family. It's hard to convince me that patients can get genuine care. At the meantime, I will research the related consumer protection law, and hope that a consumer can be or will be protected by law. read more

I would never recommend this dental office to a person with children. My autistic son was told that if he didn't cooperate while getting an x-ray, they would tie him down. He told them that the plastic pieces were too big and making him gag. They pushed until he threw up. To be clear this was not just one hygienist, this was also coming from the dentist, Gessica Horn. He continues to have anxiety about going to the dentist even after switching offices to a family friendly location. read more

May 18th, 2016 Bob had pain in his mouth and went to our dentist, Dr. Gessica Horn. He received treatment and paid his bill as he left because they require payment at the time of service based on their estimate of what insurance will pay. On May 18th, the dentist office determined it would not be covered and the bill was paid by Bob in full; $268.00. At the end of June when I received the credit card bill I realized I had not received and Explanation of Benefits from Delta Dental so I called the dentist office. Emily, the person that is in charge of billing and insurance, (she is also related to Dr. Horn) told me it had not been submitted to insurance because it would not be a covered service. I told her that I wanted her to submit it to the insurance company to be certain. July 9th I received the Explanation of Benefits from Delta Dental and guess what?? $218.00 of the bill was not our responsibility, only $50.00 was our responsibility. On Monday, July 11th, I called the Serene Oaks Dental in North Oaks, MN, the dental office that Bob visited, and was told we had no credit on our account, When I asked for the date they had received that Explanation of Benefits, Natalie told me July 5th was the date they had received it. (They had the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th before the end of the week to issue a refund). Isn't it interesting that they had received the notification but no credit was issued yet Bob had to pay the bill the day he had the service performed. Of course both Drs. were on vacation (out of town according to Natalie) and Emily was also on vacation. Supposedly no one was in that could help me. (It would not be acceptable to them if we did pay our bill at the time of service). I explained that this was not acceptable and that they had now been sitting on our money since May 18th (money we really did not owe them) and that I needed an answer by the end of the day as to when I could pick up the check. I was most upset about the fact that EMILY had made a decision NOT to submit the insurance but had collected money that was not owed them. They had no right to make that decision. They have a signed contract with Delta Dental to accept their payments as directed by Delta Dental and without submitting the insurance we had no way to know what that amount was. Had I not had the experience with Insurance to know this, they would have charged us $218.00 we did not owe and the would have kept it. I received a call from Dr. Gessica Horn and our family was "fired" as a patient. She says I was rude to Natalie....I guess requesting an expedient refund for money we never should have paid in the first place is reason to fire a patient and be considered rude. (Mind you Dr. Horn was not in the office nor was she part of the conversation but formed judgement without knowledge. When she called me she said she did not know the circumstances surrounding the insurance issue, yet still was comfortable in forming judgement.) We then received a Certified Letter a few days latter from her office firing our family as patients. LESSON: Do not ask for a refund that is rightfully yours in as an expedient manner as they want payment if you want to remain a patient. Now, on a side note; we have had overpayments in the past due to them collecting too much at the time the service was rendered and I have had to call and request a check each and every time -- EVEN THOUGH I HAVE ASKED THEM THAT ANYTIME WE HAVE A CREDIT TO AUTOMATICALLY ISSUE A CHECK BACK TO US. Nope, they have never issued a refund without me calling and requesting it -- they just keep the money but boy, you had better pay when you have a service performed. So, there is a pattern of them not willingly issuing a refund to patients with credits on their account, even when it has been requested that they do so each and every time. Maybe they should pay their patients interest on all the credits sitting on accounts. I am sure the office will have an excuse for this - they always do when they are called on actions that don't fit their agenda. You, as a consumer, can decide if this is the type of dentist you want deal with. I for one, do not! I have enough to do without having to constantly monitor if my insurance is being submitted, if I am being overcharged and if I am owed a refund. There are plenty of dentists out there that are good dentist that have integrity when dealing with patient accounts and I look forward to moving on. read more

I recently switched to Serene Oaks Dental and had my first appointment. They staff and doctors were so very friendly and warm it was obvious they had my health and welfare in mind. They talked me through their recommendations and let me decide how I want to proceed from there and at what is a comfortable pace for me. I am actually looking forward to going back. Serene Oaks presents as an upscale spa instead of a dental clinic which is great if you are looking for a high priced spa that needs to cover the overhead by over-charging their customers for unnecessary dental work to cover the expenses of their spa services. They work to service the needs of their 'high end' clientele which does not include the middle class and unfortunately they treat their clients accordingly. They try to up sell their services regardless of your ability to pay and make you feel like you need these repairs as standard care except they are not covered by insurance. You will find Dr. Gessica Horn's Range Rover parked in the first spot near the door for all her patients to walk by when going into the office. You will not find her parking it humbly in the back as a sign of gratitude for her patients. She parks it right up front for all to walk by when approaching her office and when parking is limited her patients are expected to park across the street or behind the building. If I could give this place a 0 or negative stars I would! They are beyond dishonest and apparently try to "upcharge" patients into believing they require more dental work compared to what is legitimate and needed! They told me I had SEVERAL cavities and crowns that needed work asap! They also insisted I needed all old dental work taken out and replaced! The "treatment plan they gave me (not including the $800 "cleaning" the insisted I needed) was in three parts! One was over $3100, the second was over $8800, and the third was over $5300. I got a second opinion at a dentist who had very good reviews and was told I only had a couple cavities and needed one crown to replace a filling that was cracked (and that I didn't need the extensive cleaning)! I have talked to two others who went in for routine dental and were also told they needed more extensive work! Sad a business is this dishonest and greedy! read more
