My husband and I have been going to Centennial Lakes Dental Group for at least a decade and have been happy with the dentist and hygienists. But the office staff -- yikes! There's a few who are pretty rude and snappy. It finally occurred to us, with all the dentistry fliers that we receive in the mail, "hey, we don't have to take this anymore. We're the customer." And truth be told, our dentist has said some not-so-okay-things I wouldn't want said in front of customers or female staff. You'll get good care, but when there's plenty of dentists in this city, we're moving on. This is our opinion. read more

This clinic I been going since I was young and brought my son in as well. I was with a different insurance and had a balance to pay which I was aware. I tried to communicate and be able to pay as much as I could to find out they dismissed me as a patient due to going to collections. I wasn't aware being dismissed as patients because I never received the letter at my own house! When I received mail and have notifications one my email to see what mail comes that day! I would never in my life be treated the way they did. Don't recommend! If they would work something out I wouldn't even speak about it! read more

I love this dentist's office because every single one of them make you feel like family. Everyone from the receptionist staff to the hygienists and dentist's themselves are very personable and easy to talk to. I see Dr. Baumgartner and she's awesome! It helps that the location is gorgeous - right along Centennial Lakes in Edina, next to plenty of shops and entertainment. Highly recommend walking around the man-made lake and exploring if it's warm enough and seeing what the area has to offer. There's a cafe on the main floor of the building it's located in. Haven't tried the coffee or bakery items but it looks good. If you're a new patient they give you a choice between an electric toothbrush or teeth whitening - highly recommend the whitening if you have an event coming up. It's also well worth it because you can purchase refills of the whitening for only $25. Not bad. My only gripe with this place was an insurance issue that happened on my 3rd visit at the beginning of last year - for some reason, one of my preventative visits was charged. Apparently my insurance had changed and they didn't tell me at the front desk that it was out-of-network, thus the charge for a cleaning. I wish they would have told me up front before billing me or at least taken care of the bill - since it doesn't make sense to have to pay for a preventative visit with insurance - in network or not. Regardless, I bit the bucket and just paid it. My insurance has changed again in 2020 and the front desk told me it's in-network now so I "shouldn't be charged." Let's see if my next visit gets a bill in a few months. I will update my review then. read more

I want to acknowledge Dr. Neil Johnson and his staff, and truly give credit where credit is due. I had a tooth which was well out of position and causing considerable irritation. Dr. Johnson arranged for me to have the offending tooth pulled and the rest of my teeth were then straightened with Invisalign braces. In addition to this, attachments were added to my two badly worn front teeth to return them to the appropriate size. All of this was done with remarkable efficiency and professionalism by both Dr. Johnson and his team. I would also like to add that my front teeth and their new attachments were shaped and color-matched in such a way as to look entirely natural. This feat somehow takes a step beyond the nuts-and-bolts dentistry into the world of artistry. I feel very lucky indeed to have access to this high quality dentistry. read more

I will not be back to this dental office. Initially, when I first met with the doctor he seemed like he would be a caring dentist, someone I could trust since I have anxiety and my teeth are in disrepair. He had a good first impression and seemed knowledgeable about his craft. He has several awards in the room which indicated he is at the top. However, after a 2-visit root canal procedure, I have a different impression of both him and the staff. I question his decision making in this whole ordeal and I lost trust. Unfortunately, I needed to finish my procedure so I went back for part 2, big mistake, I should have cut my losses. Specifically, his bedside manner leaves a lot to be desired. He made these snarky comments throughout both visits, my tongue being in the way or my mouth not being open and his assistant would then carry on about it, at one point in the second visit he said he's not a mind reader when it comes to knowing when I need suction. The assistant had the nerve to say there should be a super hero dentist that can read minds, ridiculous. I didn't see anything funny and that was a poor excuse for lightening the mood. What dentist tells you to open wider and then doesn't do anything. I never had a dentist visit where saliva was dripping down the side of my month and I have to tell you when I need suction, isn't it standard practice to suction throughout the procedure. Yeah, it's ok to swallow, yeah when you have a chemical composite in your mouth, yep easy to swallow. Matter of fact, most dentists have a curved suction tube that rests in the side of your mouth when you have this kind of procedure. It's funny they have fancy x-ray machines but don't know the basics around dentistry and can't take a regular x-ray without it being a big deal. On the first visit, I asked him how long the procedure generally takes, he never answered my question and throughout the procedure, did not communicate what was happening, and it was very stressful. I never knew until the end he couldn't stop the bleeding. 3 hours later no doctor in the room, I had enough and told the assistant I needed to leave and he put a temporary filling in, hence the need for the second visit. In addition, I felt uncomfortable with the closeness of the assistant. Her body was literally sitting on my arm throughout the procedure. He scheduled me for an hour and said to the scheduler, "he would make it work" so he was in and out of the room, juggling other clients. I would have been in the chair another hour had I not put a stop to it. I was hysterical when I left. The assistant was nice enough to call me the following day to check on me and she was trying to make the experience better. On the second visit, it was 40 minutes before he started the procedure after my appointment time. I specifically made the appointment for later in the day so this could be avoided. He seems like they overbook the clients as a practice. He charged me for the first visit not covered by insurance, never received a bill or a print out, I had no idea there was a balance. When I talked to the front desk at the end of the second appointment, she was acting as if I was a deadbeat and didn't want to pay my bill. In fact, I spoke to the assistant/doctor about waiving the fee but they never communicated it the front desk. By the time, I was checking out, I had already decided I would not be back and the confusion on the billing was the final straw. The front desk was so disrespectful. My feedback was consistency in the information being provided by the staff, she tried to blame it on someone else, no the buck stops with you. It doesn't matter who did what. I was visibly upset but did not get loud or curse and she said I'm done with this conversation and walked out leaving me in the doctor in the room, so unprofessional. She could have said sorry for the misunderstanding, here is what we can do. Nothing just rude. They had 3 weeks between these appointments to get a preauthorization. In between there, the called to say the doctor would be OOO on the day of my appointment so I needed to reschedule, yet another opportunity to inform was missed, no mention of the outstanding balance. They call 20 minutes before the appointment and for the second time reiterated insurance would cover the visit, so why is a payment due? No breakdown of the costs and my portion, nothing. Never mentioned the outstanding balance on the call. Not consistent. I have yet to receive an accounting for the first visit, nothing when I left and nothing in the mail. read more

Said they took my insurance then in the middle of my daughters exam said the dentist has chosen not to take my insurance. I've never experienced anything like it! Called my insurance and they said a dentist and or doctor can do this. Why?!! The receptionist was extremely rude. Took my 2 children out of school early for their dentist appointment, and waited 2 months to get in here to have said appointment stopped in the middle and told if we wanted to continue we would have to pay out of pocket! Why when we have insurance that is accepted per this clinic and my insurance? Horrible way to do business and then to be rude on top of it! Bad morals and bad business practice! read more

I used to be sick to my stomach before going to the dentist. No longer! Dr. Neil Johnson has put me at ease and has a method for making it so I don't even feel Novocaine! Everyone in the office including the front desk staff make every visit go smoothly. After breaking crowns numerous times, Dr. Johnson thought I might be having a sleep apnea issue. He sent me to an ENT he had found through his research. I am adopted and the ENT found out what turned out to be a simple, treatable condition that I found runs on one side of my biological family. I don't feel without Dr. Johnson recommending me to this ENT, I would be in my present excellent health. He is constantly doing research and keeps up on the latest medical information and treatments. He and his staff truly care for their patients. I have sent friends to Centennial Lakes Dental (Edina location) who have not been to the dentist in decades, and once they visit this location, they started having their teeth checked every six months. read more

I saw Dr. Neil Johnson for a partial. I visited him on 3 separate appointments and on each try, he was unable to make me comfortable. The temporary partial was not working, so I had to wait for the permanent. After 3 months of waiting for the permanent to come in, I was so relieved to hear that I could finally get an appointment and be able to eat again. After the permanent was placed by Dr. Johnson, I had to make several more appointments because the tooth would keep moving and I still had discomfort. Dr. Johnson finally gave up on me and STOPPED returning my calls altogether. With my discomfort, I tried a different dentist who was able to solve my problem on the first try by adjusting the partial and she did not even charge me! And her price for the permanent would be half of what Dr. Johnson charges. I finally left another voicemail for Dr. Johnson at Centennial Lakes Dental Group and let him know how disappointed I was in how I was treated. He finally called me back and lied to me! He stated he DID call me back and left a voicemail stating he would "make everything right." I am an intelligent person and know whether or not someone actually called me back. Do yourself a favor and avoid this Dental Group. read more

If I could give them zero stars, I would!!! I had to wait 3 weeks for an appointment for myself and my wife. Then the only things they did were take x-rays and the doctor heard himself talk for 40 minutes during my appointment while he looked at the x-rays and my mouth. He suggested several non-essential work such as removing a wisdom tooth that hasn't bothered me and for my wife doing a filling to make a tooth look straighter...NO CLEANING WAS DONE. They wanted us to make a separate appointment and come back for that service. I have NEVER been to a new doctor (and I calculate I've been through at least 6-8) where they refused to perform a dental cleaning until you were evaluated by a doctor and then made you book a completely separate appointment for the service that you asked for in the first place. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere. We specifically mentioned when we booked this appointment was for a dental cleaning since we hadn't had one in about 2 years. What a bunch of bull and a complete waste of time. read more
