As with any other travel experience, we had to find a massage place after walking 15,000 steps a day. We called Serenity Spa and spoke to MONICA, who was very friendly and professional. We were able to book a same day appointment. The cost for a 90 minute massage was about $50 USD. The business is located several blocks away from the malecon; about a 20 minute walk. Upon arrival, we meet with MONICA who had the massage room prepared for my wife. The interior was clean, organized, and smelled nice. The masseuse, ALEX, was friendly and professional. Suggest to call ahead if you can. Wife and were on a cruise. Didn't want the over priced massage on the ship so found this place. Since we didn't call ahead had to wait awhile but enjoyed a near by restaurant until it was our time. Place is clean and not fancy but still very nice. We did a 90 min massage and it was great. I've been going here for several months and am grateful for the wonderful expertise of the professionals who work here. I have had fibromyalgia most of my life and really need strong massages from people who also "listen" to what the body under their hands is telling them. I've now experienced massages from 4 different people here and they are all terrific in different ways. The owner, Monica, is one of those super skilled individuals and she'll help you find exactly the type of experience you need. Her English is great so you don't need to hesitate about calling even if your Spanish is not-so-great. :) Just tell Monica whether you want someone who is more focused on the soothing, smooth styles or the deeper tissue, sports medicine style. Some of her staff also work as nurses and physical therapists (full university level degrees, not the PTA or LPN level). She also welcomes couples wanting a "honeymoon" treat together, as well as families and groups of friends who want to book at the same time. This is one of the most affordable massages in town (believe me, I've called almost all of the ones recommended in FB forums and listed on Google Maps!). But, don't go expecting a beautiful "spa" either on the inside or outside. It's very clean and hygienic but not what would be considered a "spa" by many. And, don't be fooled by the the exterior which looks like an abandoned business. That just keeps the riff-raff away. Be sure to call ahead and then knock on the door and they'll let you in! Once you arrive, let them know what your needs are and what you're comfortable or uncomfortable with. There is a bathroom, if needed. Bring your own water bottle and kleenex if you get stuffed up when you're face down or in environments with a/c. If you are in town and need a massage, this is the place to go. I agree that it doesn't look like a typical massage spa on the outside, it has more of a "hole in the wall" type of vibe. However, if what you are looking for is quality, this is the spot. We sent them a message through Yelp regarding their availability. They were able to schedule us in that same morning. We got the couples deep tissue massage and it was exactly what we needed. They immediately understood our problematic areas and trigger points. Amazing and very affordable for the professional quality! My husband and I were in La Paz for a mini-honeymoon and we were looking for some relaxation after the stress of the wedding.
