This doctor is amazing and anyone that says anything else is just crazy. Had both my girls with him. I had to drive from CT after my water broke early just to make sure he delivered my first baby. C-Scar is so nice people compliment me on it. I also did a uterus removal and he is tge best. People told me not to do it cause most doctored remove the ovaries but Not my doctor. My wife and i were super excited to be expecting our first baby, we travel a lot and live bicoastal, as such er got a late start on searching for a OB, a friend in NYC recommended Dr. Seth Finkelstein. We did some research and found out that he is affiliated with a great local hospital http://www.nyhq.org/Finkelstein_Seth he is Board Certified OB by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology he also received a "Humanitarian Service Award" from the New York Senate and "Unsung hero Award" for Medical Work in Haiti, that all sounded great but by far our FRIENDS RECOMMENDATION was the driving factor in setting up the appointment. We made an appointment at his Park Avenue location, the office was nice, the receptionist was well like a doctors office receptionist. When we met him he was cordial and professional, but after talking to him we realized and appreciated that he he really knows his profession, he does not waste time sugar coating, he obviously has an opinion and is straight forward with it, these are all traits that you will either appreciate or despise, there are a lot of patients that want a comfy feeling from doctors visits, we would prefer the best advise based on hard facts, no need for kid gloves. Most patients will come away from a doctors visit with a good feeling or a bad one not necessarily based on the care but rather based on how they ere treated The University of Toronto's Dr. Wendy Levinson is considered among the world's foremost researchers on physician-patient communication. Levinson reported no difference in the amount or quality of information doctors gave their patients; the never-sued doctors didn't provide more details about medication or the patient's condition. The difference was entirely in how they talked to their patients. In his book Blink Malcolm Gladwell explains the same thing. Pleasantries are always nice, but we were looking for EXCELLENT medical care, and that mattered a whole lot more then if the receptionist or the doctor asked us now our vacation was. We didn't have a high risk pregnancy, but during birth (natural) Doctor Finkelstein Delivered a healthy baby, and when my wife started hemorrhaging he Saved her life (and her uterus) needless to say he will be the one to deliver our 2nd baby when the time comes. We highly recommend Dr Finkelstein to our friends and family. read more

OMG, "stay away" is all I can say. Disclaimer, I am only reviewing Dr. Seth Finkelstein, not his uncle, with who he works, and whom I have never met. I became pregnant and was looking for an OB-GYN. So I found this guy, thinking, "Wow, Park Avenue, big deal". Not so. The office is shabby. The staff is disinterested in pretty much anything, and all I see them do is eat behind the partition. The nurse didn't want to have my husband in the room with me. Um, excuse me? This is the father of this baby! It took 5 days to receive my blood test results after multiple calls, multiple messages left, and just me getting frustrated. The doctor has NO bedside manner. I get shivers just thinking of being in the dirty, disheveled office. Lesson learned. read more

Dr Finkelstein delivered my son last year and I am happy we had a Dr who was clearly knowledgeable and felt very comfortable with him. He was always easy to reach and his office staff was friendly. In addition, most obgyn practices in Manhattan have a team of doctors, and whoever is on call when you go into labor will be the one to deliver your baby. Not the case here-- Dr Finkelstein is your doctor, during your pregnancy and during labor and delivery. Recommend. read more

Dr Seth Finklestein delivered my daughter almost 7 years ago. I am currently expecting my second child and am so terribly upset he is no longer in queens. This is one of the most caring understanding compassionate doctors I have ever met. If I were closer to the city I would in a heart beat have him as my doctor. read more

Dr Finklestien is an amazing Dr. I was treated with the upmost kindness respect and professionalism. He is a very thorough Dr. The atmosphere is calm and peaceful. The staff is wonderful and very attentive. I had agreat experience through my pregnancy and my delivery. I had a C Section and I have almost no scar at all. You can not see it at all. This man does magic with his hands. Not to mention that he is an absolutely beautiful man, and he looks like the Coca Cola guy. He's been my doctor 6 years after I gave birth. I went to this gynecologist because I was having abnormal spotting that went on for several weeks on and off and I had what seemed to be two very heavy periods directly back to back. I have always been normal and had since first getting my period as a young girl, have had little to no problems with spotting or irregular bleeding. He did an in-office sonogram (with a very old machine), basic gynecological exam with a pap smear and absolutely NO other blood or diagnostic tests. He then told me my entire problem was that I had abnormal weight gain (which I had gone to another doctor for) and gave me a long lecture about losing weight (which I had been trying to do). He said since my period had mostly been normal my whole life to see how I was in 3 months or so because he didn't think there were any real problems. I woke up a few days later in a pool of blood. I made an appointment with a different gynecologist after that appointment because I felt he was incompetent since he ordered absolutely no blood tests whatsoever and did not check my hormonal levels, for STI's or run any diagnostic test whatsoever. I woke up a few days later in a pool of blood and the other gynecologist I had an appointment with saw me immediately. In examining me- right away on my cervix they found a polyp (which Finkelstein totally missed during my exam and pap smear) and she removed it. Haven't spotted since that was removed a few months ago. She then sent me for a sonogram which immediately detected that I had a fibroid that radiological tech showed me while doing the sonogram. This was a week after going to Finkelstein so it's not very likely I grew a several centimeter fibroid in a matter of a week- he completely missed it with his old crappy office equipment. In addition to that I have adenomyosis (which is not weight related). I also have a simple cyst of each ovary, a problem with my thyroid and had become anemic. I had an MRI that also stated I have adenomyosis and since have had a hysteroscopy and D&C which found several polyps in the uterine lining during the biopsy. I'm still climbing out of the anemia- several months later. He literally missed not one thing- but several different problems I have with my uterus, ovaries and health conditions relating to the heavy blood loss- any of which could have been contributing to the problems I was having. He was the least thorough doctor I have ever been to and while I rarely need to go to the doctor, I have never felt any doctor was as dismissive, rude or incompetent. read more

If your looking for a doctor that is knowledgeable and cares there is no one close to dr finkelstein that will fit that criteria. From reading other reviews some seem to think his personality is "off" or bedside manors don't exist. Wrong and wrong! We had a complicated preemie and wouldn't have wanted anyone else other than dr finkelstein there to deliver our baby. Blunt but honest, no sugar coating, but caring and sincere. I just started seeing Dr. Finkelstein today at his Bay ridge office and I feel confident with his knowledge and experience to be able to find a solution to my urinary issues I have been experiencing for so long which effects my quality of life. He was very attentive and I feel that he really cares about his patients well being. I felt comfortable with him and his staff was very pleasant as well. AVOID THIS GYN OFFICE...First I never write reviews but I'm displeased enough to write about my gyn visit with Dr.Seth Finkelstein. Gyn visits are one of the most necessary yet uncomfortable experiences a woman must go through. With that being said, I've been searching for a doctor who I could feel comfortable enough to go to each year. Dr. Seth Finkelstein is obviously a male gyn doctor. I've never been to see a male gyn before but I decided to try nonetheless. Now I will say that not all of his staff were horrible. But there is this one secretary on his staff, an older caucasian women who comes off like she trying to "help you' but she is very sarcastic and patronizing. After I completed my paperwork, as a new patients I needed to go into Dr.Finkelstein's office before the pap smear. Let me just say that the whole time he spoke at me and not to me and he barely made any eye contact. In fact, he was also very short with me and seemed annoyed in general. He directed the whole conversation and did not allow me to ask many questions at all. ****GRAPHIC ALERT****As for the pap smear, it was quick and pretty painless. However, after he was done with the pap smear he proceeded in that area and was EXTREMELY ROUGH with his fingers. When I got dressed and opened the door to leave about 4 of the staff were waiting by the door just staring me down. Of course this was the best feeling ever having complete strangers glare at me right after I had a pap smear by a rough, insensitive doctor. I was told that I would get a call back in few weeks with my results. I waited 4 weeks and heard nothing from the office so I decided to call. The sarcastic secretary took my name and number and said I would get a call the next day. Needless to say that did not happen. I received a call the following week and missed it because I was at work. I called back that same day and the same sarcastic secretary asked to take my name and number again. That time I put my foot down because waiting 5 weeks for a pap results and getting the run around was just ridiculous. Shortly after the secretary put me on hold and I'm guessing a nurse picked up. She gave me my results and had an awful attitude. Moral of the story avoid Seth Finkelstein office, find another gyn. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Finkelstein's for the past 8 years. I was referred to him by my internist at the time and had already seen about five gynecologists I was unsatisfied with. Dr. Finkelstein made me feel comfortable and has since been amazing! My husband and are now pregnant with our first child and both he and I love him to date. He has been informative and supportive. He has even made himself available to our concerns outside of office hours, returning calls and emails in a timely fashion, assuring us that he is with us every step of the way. I am still amazed with how great my appt was today! I have not been so lucky these last few years and have had to see many different doctors so I have a pretty good idea on what is "standard" care, which is usually 5-10 mins with your doctor and subpar staff interactions. My appt with Dr Finkelstein was anything but this! First I we sat in his office for about 30 min as he went through ever detail of my health history and every page of the test results I brought with me. He was kind, even apologized that he now had to look at the computer (iall docs office are changing to computers these days) as he talked to me inputting all my info, which I thought was thoughtful he would even point this out. I was amazed he does his own intakes himself and does not leave it to a nurse and took the time to ask me some info as well about my family. When it came to exam, he was gentle and explained everything as he was doing it. After this we went back to his office where he laid out several options, told me pros/cons on each and asked me what my desired out come would be and then explained which treatment(s) he thought would then be best. I am amazed at how much time he spent one on one with me! Dr Finkelstein, was kind, thoughtful and in general you can tell he cares how his pt are feeling. The staff was equally friendly, sweet and all and all very helpful. I had one of the best blood draws I have ever had and I have small veins and normally a "pain" to find a good vein and his nurse got it first try and I hardly felt a thing! I would highly recommend Dr. F to any women looking for compassionate care, one where you feel your feelings are heard and acknowledged and that your Doctor really spends time to get to know you as a person and not just as a patient. read more
