Instead our project was completed ahead of schedule, just under budget, and the quality of the work was excellent. And that includes an expanded project scope that came up when we discovered large issues with a neighboring property. Fairmont was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. They were always willing to listen to our ideas and make changes as needed. They were also very responsive to my questions and concerns. Fairmont's foreman or a partner subcontractor was on-site on average more than five days a week for the entire many-month project. This allowed them to keep a close eye on the work and make sure that everything was done to the highest standards, and if not the first time, they made sure it was redone. Unlike several neighboring projects, we had no stop work orders, no neighbor complaints (complements actually), and all our inspections were successful. I would highly recommend Fairmont to anyone looking for a home builder or doing a major urban renovation. They are professional, reliable, and they do great work.

However, I am an old house lover (now a three-time renovator) and keeping or reinventing old house detail was important. Carlos manages construction, the tradesmen, the sub-contractors, and the overall quality of the workmanship on the job. He is an experienced builder, taking pride in bringing ideas to life but careful to offer full disclosure on the pros, cons and risks of each option. Jose manages the business side of the project - budgeting and billing, tracking and documenting changes, purchase of materials, recommending vendors for kitchen design, tiles, stone, flooring etc. Most important was his management of communications between Fairmont and me, the homeowner. Jose took time to ask questions and listen carefully to answers. I know and appreciate how rare it is to have good communication. I also have lived the consequences of mediocre communication. Mistakes are costly. Jose follows a protocol of asking, clarifying, and following up with an email restating our discussion and inviting me to comment, add, or correct. The answers don't matter as much as the asking and listening. This worked so well there were no horror stories. To summarize: Strong management of the permitting process, of sub-contractors, deliveries, security of the property and use of appropriate safety measures. I think its important to say also that the project was managed ethically, honestly and respectfully. Everyone on the job was pleasant and upbeat. Weekly walk-thru meetings insuring the work was proceeding according to agreement. Efficient cascade of information, decisions and/or changes, from homeowner and Fairmont to the tradesmen and subcontractors. A solid team of workers - excellent workmanship, site management and daily clean-up. Also, no profanity or loudness, no littering, no complaints from neighbors, and very happily, no accidents. Lastly, Fairmont checks in with you periodically during the year following move-in. Together we created a list of little adjustments and changes that you can't anticipate until you move in. All done! The house is lovely - beautiful carpentry, millwork and all the details that make it livable for me. I feel very fortunate to have done this work with Fairmont and I would recommend them without reservation!

After our previous contractor left us without communication and without starting the job, we were referred to Greg, who immediately jumped in to get the job done before our move-in date: from start to finish, they were able to take down the wall, add lighting, and paint the room in one week! They offered super helpful advice and solutions to problems we didn't anticipate, like adding tasteful cedar planks to cover unfinished walls left by the previous owners. Not only were they quick and professional, but Greg patiently emailed back and forth with me while at work (since I couldn't have my phone on me) to go over my ideas and keep me updating on what was going on. We were a bit caught off guard but was willing to pay because we wanted to move forward with the project. And then, crickets. No word from Greg or the engineer. After a few ignored emails he finally responded to my husband; he thought it was a different client who he had recently met. When my husband reminded Greg that he already knew him and had come to our house, again, nothing. The last attempt to reach out to Greg was very disheartening. We were honest, saying we had reached out to other contractors, but that we like him and wanted a quote. He told us to move forward with them as he is pretty busy. Period. The end. What a waist of time!!! Unless your the more profitable project, move on!

Plumbing had to be replaced and reconfigured to move it from the right well to the left; we wanted a bathtub to replace the ancient standing shower; it took us forever to pick a vanity; we wound up choosing hardware that required specialised installation & nothing in that bathroom had been updated for about 20 years. Austin, Moira & Carlos at Kingston guided our selections, problem-solved as issues came up, kept up a steady flow of communication & all in all, delivered a gorgeous result for a reasonable price. Moira, the Director of Operations, was especially instrumental in translating our hopes into reality. What we had when this project started was a tired, leaky, non-functional butter yellow & turquoise late 70's/earlyspace with a useless dividing wall that made the room look smaller then it is. After about 7 weeks what we had instead was a beautiful modern bath with sharply contemporary hardware, a soothing grey color scheme with gleaming porcelain tiles, annoying partial wall removed & an elegant, deep bathtub that surprisingly fit into the small amount of space we had to work with, our starkly modern design scheme *and* our budget. I obtained multiple estimates and Malte's was in line with the middle of the very large range. Malte was great to work with and I love my new bathroom! He was extremely helpful in referring me to Robert at The Tile Shop in Springfield. The shop has a large number of display bathrooms, so you can get many good ideas. Robert was fantastic in providing design advice and the end result is very much due to his tactful recommendations (on several occasions, he reminded me that due to the small space, I wanted to avoid having too much going on). Malte also guided me throughout the design process, making sure that my design ideas were functional as well. Malte started and completed the remodel in the agreed upon time frame for the agreed upon price. He was always willing to explain the process and answer my questions (I was an involved and some might say demanding client.) The inside had cracks on the walls,…read morethe bathrooms needed new fixtures, the walls needed painting, the HVAC needed servicing, 1 bathroom door and 3 utility doors needed to be repaired/replaced. The outside deck needed to be redone, the fence needed to be cleaned and painted, cracks on the bricks had to be mended and the whole front repainted. After providing a thorough estimate, they completed the work in just over a week. Everything turned out better than expected, on time, and on budget, even with additional work not previously anticipated. Mr Swinton even offered to replace the dated porch lights with updated ones at no additional cost. This is the type of person we love to work with and highly recommend him to friends, family, and other businesses.
