I feel badly posting this, both because Rose was kind and because this review will be an admission that I was unhappy with the way my wedding dress looked. While she did a great job on the hem and bustle and a pretty good job taking in the waist of my gown, the bust, which had a v-neckline, looked very poorly altered and I'll-fitting. I had said from the first fitting that I didn't not want cups. She folded the side of the bust over on each side, I presumed just to measure, but by my second fitting my gown had visible horizontal seams (in addition to vertical seams already present from the designer) and did not fit at all--the only option to keep the dress from hanging off of me was to insert cups. Also, the horizontal fold caused a wrinkle on each breast that is visible in nearly every photograph. Again, I trusted her as the professional, and by my third fitting, I still wasn't convinced, but at that point my wedding was 11 days away and I was so stressed. My mother and bridesmaids loved the dress, but standing still in front of the mirror is different than moving around at your wedding. All-in-all, most people probably didn't notice, but if I could share a photo, you'd see that that is not how the dress should have looked. I should also mention that my dress was ordered too large (I'm a 4, it was an 8) but I emailed Rose ahead of time and she assured me that she could take a size 14 down to a 4. Also, the price for alterations was quite high, especially considering it was so visibly altered. All in all, if you need only minimal alterations (hem, straps), I recommend Rose. Went to Rose with the intention of having the train removed from my wedding dress. Rose suggested bustling instead. At the final fitting I was so shocked to clearly see each and every stitch where she had placed the hooks and eyes all the way down the back of the dress. When confronted about this Rose's response was there was no lace to hide the stitching. Then why oh why would you suggest this alternative to simply cutting away the train when you saw that the dress was a jersey like material? And when I commented on the bust needing altering her comment was no ones going to be looking at your boobs. It saddens me to write this review but I find it necessary after paying $600 for an alteration that in my opinion ruined this expensive dress. read more

I have gone to Rose three times now for alterations. I have also referred people to her as well. All three times I have had wonderful experiences. She has done two bridesmaids dresses and my wedding dress. I cannot thank her enough. She is so sweet and pleasant, and she was transparent and fair. She had to hem and take in the two bridesmaids dresses. And my wedding dress fit perfect and all she had to do was the bustle. With my wedding dress I planned my wedding in less than four months and it was in the middle of a busy wedding season. She fit me in. I brought my wedding dress here with a recommendation from The Bridal Garden, where I purchased my dress. Due to the odd sizing of Bridal gowns, I ended up being 3 sizes smaller on top than on the bottom. So the waist up needed some serious alterations. I went in for 3 fittings, including the final. On the second one, she said the bust could be taken in even more. I thought it was comfortable and said we didn't need them, but she persisted. At the final fitting I tried it on and it was VERY tight. I said it was too tight and needed to be let out, she said it fit perfectly. I should have pushed because the day of my wedding the top clasp broke soon after getting dressed, and I looked like I was busting out of my dress while walking down the aisle. I WAS LIVID. While she did a great job with the intricate beading, I only gave 3 out of 5 because she did not listen to the customer. It partially ruined my wedding day because it was the only thing I could think about anytime I had to get in and out of it to use the restroom and all during photos. Speak up for yourself! read more

Rose has altered all of my school formal dresses, the bridesmaid dresses I have worn in the weddings I've been in, and now my own wedding gown. I had my wedding dress altered by Rose and could not more highly recommend her services. My mother also had two dresses altered here and was very happy with the service, as were a handful of my bridesmaids. As my friend who suggested Rose to me initially said, "she makes you feel like a million bucks every time you're there!" She runs a busy business, but takes the time to make sure you feel personally attended to, comfortable, and to answer any questions you have. There are no surprises in pricing, she will review everything with you the first time you visit and you know what to expect. Her schedule was also fairly flexible in terms of appointment times, which was important for me as I was coming in from a few hours away for each appointment. Logistically, she typically has brides come in for 3 appointments: initial fitting, second fitting, and final fitting. After the final fitting, she'll press the dress and have you choose a date/time for pick up. For other dresses, it's typically reduce to two appointments, unless there's an issue! I was recommended to take my wedding gown to Rose by the staff at The Bridal Garden, also in East Greenwich, where I purchased my dress. My three fitting appointments with her were all I could have hoped for - she was clear in explaining pricing, was patient with any concerns and questions, was generally just extremely friendly, and her shop space is extremely clean and open. My biggest concern was the bustle for my gown; she crafted a bustle that was a combination of an under bustle for the gown's satin lining and a multi-point over bustle for the tulle layers. The hook and eyes for connecting the points in the tulle were not noticeable while the train was unhooked, and despite my concerns from hearing about other brides' experiences at their weddings, the bustle stayed intact the entire evening. The dress I bought was much too large to begin with, and then I lost 25 lbs. before the wedding. None of this phased Rose at all! A friend referred me to Rose to do my wedding dress alterations this summer and I will be passing the word along to all my local RI friends to use her for their alterations in the future. I met with Rose and had her make an alteration on a garment for me. It seemed to go well. Rose had the garment done on time. I picked it up and low and behold I gasped! Seriously, you used a zig zag stitch to sew this!!!! You didn't even use a overlock!!! Wtf is this???? My 6yr old niece could have done what Rose did to my garment! I mean, I hire a so called professional seamstress to do a professional alteration to my garment and I get what looks like a homemade by a toddler alteration!!! AND the seam Rose made was in the MIDDLE of my garment!!! W T F !!! A professional should rip out the existing seams and alter the garment there. NOT in the MIDDLE of the garment!!! I have NEVER seen anything like this in all the years I have had professional alterations!!! BEWARE of this place!!! A professional will alter the garment and you would NOT be able to see it was altered! Lastly, to top off this horrible experience, the cost to do said unprofessional, homemade alteration she charged WAY too much! Rose charged 5x what other places charge for a simple alteration! I totally agree with Felicia's review. First of all, Rose is SO overly excited, kind, interested in you/ your fiancé/ your special day, but that truly is all for show. When you get past all of the compliments and questions, you'll find that she truly doesn't care about you. My dress was not altered correctly, so there was a scramble to get it fixed before the big day. When it was finished (hours before my wedding), she didn't let me try it on for her. I was handed the dress and rushed out...no more bubbly questions about the big day or how I might wear my hair...just a see-ya-later. HORRIBLE. Zero stars. Rose completely ruined my wedding gown. I had a lace gown that needed to be altered because it was too long. Excitedly, I went to try on my gown after the length had been altered by Rose, only to find that there was a large HEM LINE all the way across the front of my lace gown. The hem line hit right in the middle of my shins and it looked like you could literally detach the bottom of the dress. It was extremely noticeable and Rose told me that "it was impossible to hem a lace gown like that any other way." Since I am not a seamstress, I took her word, but was skeptical because I have seen many lace gowns altered in length - none of them having a hem line across the front/visible part of the gown. I was in tears while I was there and for the entire day after. My sister was ready to drive to Boston to buy me the same dress off the rack at a bridal shop. When I went home that night, I did a ton of research and also got the advice of a retired seamstress in my family. The bottom line - the way she altered my dress was completely wrong, and to be blunt, looked like a complete hack job. I am not exaggerating this, my gown looked ridiculous as there was a huge line across it that should not have been there. The way the dress should have been altered was to work with the intricate details of the lace from UNDERNEATH, no visible hem line on the dress. Luckily, 7 days before my wedding, I found a wonderful seamstress in the same area who took apart all of the alterations Rose did and corrected everything. Additionally, the chest/breast area was taken in by Rose. Yep, you guessed it, two sewing lines on the front of my dress on each side of my breasts, VISIBLE. Not the way it should be done. Lastly, the dress I ordered was a little tight on me in the hip area (yes, I went with the size recommended by the bridal gown shop), and at all three appointments I had with Rose she told me that it was literally "IMPOSSIBLE" to take out my dress. The second seamstress who fixed all of these other errors made by Rose was able to take out my dress with no problem at all, and within a week of my wedding. Clearly, it was not impossible. It simply demonstrates that Rose does not know what she is doing at all. If you are a bride and you want your gown to look good, stay away. read more

I was recommended to Sewing Creations by Rose by a good friend of mine. I needed some alterations to my wedding dress so had asked around. My dress had come in literally a month before my wedding and I was stressing out thinking no one would have enough time to help me. I called Rose, explained my situation, and she immediately put my mind at ease. She assured me this was no problem and within minutes I had my first appointment set up. Rose is an absolute doll and one of the sweetest people in the world. She made me feel like a princess during my fittings and was twirling me around the floor to check out my bustle, she even had me practice sitting in chairs. My mother, sister, and another bridesmaid ended up going to her and absolutely fell in love with her as well. When I went to pick up my dress the day before the wedding she had tucked a special note in my dress garment bag. She wrote the sweetest note, which was really sweet of her. My wedding was in Massachusetts but I live in California, so I flew home for my dress fitting. My dress needed little to no alterations. The only thing that really needed to be done was a bustle. The back of my dress has a long shear overlay that extends beyond the solid fabric of the dress. It has gorgeous beading and thread work that really pops in the part that extends beyond the solid fabric. Rose pinned what looked to be a lovely bustle for the back of my dress. However, when I went for my final fitting ( a couple days before the wedding) she had added about 30 tabs to the sheer overlay that RUINED the beauty of the shear overlay. You could see them all dangling before I bustled and then you could see all the bows under the overlay once it was bustled. My bridesmaids and I decided to cut the tabs off which meant that they spent the entire cocktail hour hand sewing a bustle for my dress. We all missed cocktail hour trying to recreate a bustle that wouldn't ruin the beauty of the dress. For someone who has altered dresses this long Rose should have known not to put tabs (which she was going to number in black pen) on a shear fabric. read more

Rose was an absolute delight throughout my wedding process. She does amazing work -- but first lets talk about the even more noticeable: her phenomenal personality. From the moment I met her she was all smiles and compliments. Don't worry, not at all in a cheesy way, in a 'I want to be your friend' and 'wow are you going to rock that dress' sort of way. I lived out of state and my appointments with Rose were something I honestly looked forward to because of how positive and happy she was. She was really flexible with my out of town schedule. And, when I decided I wanted to cut my train off she suggested I sleep on it (smart move, Rose, some brides can be a little wonky) and come back this next day (unscheduled) just to be sure. I still wanted to go through with it and she cut it off right then and there for me. I thought my dress was great when I bought it. When I put it on for the first time after at Rose's and felt like "yep, still pretty" but wasn't blown away like it felt the first time. I looked forward to each of our 3 appointments because it was almost like catching up with a friend over coffee. She's altered dress shirts and taken in very expensive silk pants for me-- admittedly simpler alterations, but I would always trust Rose with my garments. This is most likely the worst business in Rhode Island. After what she did to my dress a few years ago, I feel the need to warn people about her. First of all, her personality is fake. I was nine when this happened, and I'm 16 now, so I couldn't really tell. I look back on it and she is so fake. She doesn't really care about you. She could care less, as long as she gets your money. I was in my brother's wedding as a Jr. Bridesmaid, and as a growing child, I grew out of it before the wedding. We came to her in a rush. It was literally less than a week before the wedding. The straps were the problem. That's all I needed her to fix. She basically cut the straps diagonally and attached them back on so it would fit on my upper arm, not my shoulder. Not only did it look absolutely ridiculous, but it was different from every other bridesmaid dress. My sister in law was so upset. She was crying, since she didn't get to see it until the day of the wedding. This woman is absolutely ridiculous, has no idea what she's doing, and I am shocked that she is still in business. She cannot complete a simple task. She is extremely unprofessional and fake. I will never recommend her, and if I could give her -5 stars, I would. Looking back on the experience with her makes me cringe. Do not trust this practice, I rolled my eyes and nearly laughed out loud when my dad asked if I wanted to alter my prom dress here. Very disappointed with Rose and how she treated my sister before her wedding. Not only was her work extremely overpriced, but she also did not do a sufficient job on her dress just hours before her wedding. On top of that, she would not allow her to try it on in person to make sure the corrections were right before she brought it all the way home. I am getting married in a few months, and my seamstress is amazing. Even though she's further away, it is definitely worth going to. The price of my dress alterations along with my mom and sister's came out to less than what Rose charged my sister for her gown ALONE. I was leary about using Rose from other reviews but a neighbor highly recommended her, so i gave it a try. I had a bridesmaid dress that needed significant work with hemming and sleeve/bodice fitting. When it was finished the right sleeve was too high and the top was still too loose. I thought it was too long still but Rose reassured me it was fine. When i saw the others girls dresses, I realized i was right. The dress was not short enough.
