Unsure where to begin. My artist daughter was visiting, so took the long drive to visit the store. The parking lot is 1. dangerous, 2. hard to find the first time *especially in high traffic times, which is when we showed up. Our experience was a mixed bag. No greetings. No introductions. I was there for a sewing machine as mine ended up in storage in another state. Finally found a clerk willing to help me out, did the paperwork and actually was rejected for the payment plan. Zero redirect to the reconditioned machines as a possibility, which my daughter had found when we split up. *I only mention the rejection because we left, went to another store who used the exact same company for payment plans and was approved in minutes & walked out with what could easily be described as a higher value machine (&yes, price) in no time. Back to this store. I have no idea the organization of this store. I'm more of a clothes maker than quilting, but really only found formal wear materials and some others. Also buttons, but kinda sparse selections. I usually sew church clothes & work clothes but also other random items like pj's. All that to say, it didn't come across as a fabric store where a variety of styles are supported. I was persona non grata after my "denial" so the items I was purchasing outright got put back. I didn't have the plague & I had cash. Just not $3k+ in cash. Unsure how the business stays afloat as this is not a way to attract repeat business. My daughter saw how I was ignored and put her items back as well. Question for the owner. Is this a common style of customer service that you want to present? Why did the other shop offer a payment plan with the exact same company for a higher priced item than your store did? read more

Probably the last of its kind in the area. It looks smaller than it is. I came looking for materials for table place mats. They have a huge selection of all materials for sewing projects. Staff is very friendly, polite and helpful. A special thank you to Ms. Karen. She took me exactly to the area I needed to look in. She saved me time wondering around. They had plenty of the material I was looking for. Unfortunately I didn't find the right color. I noticed they offered different price ranges on all materials. They also offer sewing machines, machine repair, and project classes. Staff is available and ready to help. They are well staffed. read more

From outside to store seems really little. However, when you come inside, it goes back pretty far and they have a huge selection of sewing supplies from fabrics to threads. They even offer classes here which I'm definitely going to look into. I'm new to sewing so I can't say much about the value of the fabrics, but they seem to have a variety of prices. All of the employees that I interacted with were very friendly and explained what fabric I was getting. I even asked them for some tips and they were happy to help. I was told they also do a sale on the 4th of July so I may make a stop here to get some more fabric. Overall, if you're new to sewing or have been sewing for a while (and you haven't checked his place out), I would definitely recommend going. read more

They had an entire hanging wall display filled with special brocades, another hanging wall display showcased wedding fabrics, while another hangin wall display had dance fabrics. I was impressed with the large wall of bolt bins of miscellaneous fancy fabrics. I took in a sample of the velvet fabric I already had for the dress and the associate patiently helped me find the perfect brocade to make a corset over the dress. She knowledgeable discussed with me the best way to wash and sew the brocade. She helped me find matching thread and made sure I had everything I needed to make the perfect dress. If you're looking for speciality fabrics, this is the place to go. If you're looking for quilting cottons, they have a large selection at good prices. I have passed this little build a million times and finally decided to stop in one casual Saturday and boy was I surprised. This little building has it all. They have everything your little sewing heart desires and they offer classes. They staff is super friendly. They have a superb wall of buttons. Room and walls of fabric selection. Sewing machines that you can buy new or used. Prices are comparable to Michael's or what Joanns had. They offer a frequent shopper program so be sure to leave your phone number. The only draw back is the line to check out can tend to get long if they are busy so plan on hanging out a bit if they are busy and it does feel crowded. Parking is available in the back so don't you fret! Other than that it's worth the visit. read more

An absolutely stellar shop! More than 2 racks of garment fabric - I could have shed a tear. I purchased some beautiful fabrics, my favorite being a woven Japanese number that made a lovely top and some quilting cotton with cats in the style of Gustave Klimt. They had such a variety of prints! They had a decent sale section as well, towards the back cutting counter. If you don't live in FL, fear not! They have an excellent online store I fully plan on taking advantage of. If you're a sewist or quilter visiting Orlando, this place is worth a couple hours of your time. I last reviewed the sewing studio like a decade ago. Some things have changed. The biggest one is there's no more bargain room. It's been closed off from the main retail area and turned into work space. While it's cool they offer more classes, I don't live anywhere near enough to take any of them with any regularity and for the most part the topics aren't my jam. In the before times I would make a road trip here, buy a few hundred bucks between the normal store in fabric and the bargain section in fabric and miscellaneous "sew on crap" (appliqués, trims, bits and bobs). I still have materials from back then in my stash because I hoard like every other crafter/sewer. I stopped by to look for weird bits and bobs/trims to coordinate something I'm working on and was so disappointed that there just wasn't the kind of selection there used to be. I noticed in the clothing textiles there wasn't burnout silk anymore (something I used to stock up on lots of yardage), and some of the cooler specialty items like pleated satin panels disappeared. I hope it's just a seasonal thing but after seeing changes in stores local to me I'm guessing it's probably not the case. There's still an incredible machine showroom, quilting fabric choices, and the nice spandex corner up front is the same. There's a $5/yard dress cuts shelving unit (like the ikea kallax) that has taken the place of the discount annex's cheap fabric but it's much harder to shop since everything is folded to fit in cubbies. I didn't want to be a douchebag to pull things out and try to refold it if I didn't love the overall print or weight. There are still some nice bridal/formal materials and appliqués but it feels like they're not as well stocked as they used to be. read more

This store was recommended to me through someone at another quilting shop as well as Google and Yelp. I was looking to purchase a new sewing machine and I've got to say I found the right store. Parking was a little tricky, as the store was extremely busy on the day I chose to visit on. As soon as I walked in the door I saw SO MANY sewing machines! I was greeted immediately by a friendly lady named Fran who helped me decide which machine best suited my needs. She let me try the machine and showed me an array of features on the machine which I instantly learned the value of what my investment would be. She also gave me a link for an educational video (which I immediately watched upon returning home) on YouTube that went through each and every feature of my machine and how to use it all. Fran informed me that I can take available classes to learn my machine in depth by making an appointment which is also wonderful. This experience has been a positive one for me and I'd like to recommend this store to anyone looking for a good quality machine. They've gained a customer and I'll be happy to drive 45 minutes to shop at this store, it was worth it, thank you Fran! read more

I just walked this entire store in search of ... Fabric for window treatments, Pom Pom trim, and fabric for table linen. Not one employee welcomed me as I entered and no one asked if I needed any assistance. I heard one lady ask several different people if they needed assistance and when I walked in her direction, she said nothing I Don't think African Americans are welcomed here, or maybe people with braids or locs. Just an FYI for anyone that fits this category who may want to spend their dollars at this store. I'm not from here but will research another place to purchase fabric. read more

If you have a sewing hobby, this place is for you. They have so many bundles of cloth, buttons, accessories for making anything you can sew, glue to put together and make whatever masterpiece your brain can think of. I needed something elastic for my daily face mask because wearing my mask and glasses was hurting the backs of my ears. Went in, picked up two lovely clear flower-ish like button and used a pre-existing blue elastic to make my own mask bands extension so my ears no longer suffer. read more

Sewing Studio fabric has an amazing selection of quilting and apparel fabrics as we as an insane selection of machines. They also have a section in the back with designer fabric for $5 per yard!!' Go in the back maybe someone there can help you. So back I went asked a woman for help she said she was with another customer. I waited a few more minutes. She never returned. So I left. The Sewing Studio is an amazing store for all sorts of fabric crafts. Family owned and operated, and located in Maitland for decades, they offer almost anything you could want in the way of fabrics, notions, machines and other supplies. They have a large inventory of quilting cottons and an incredible selection of fabrics for clothing and couture. I even overheard a visitor say that, outside of NYC, this store had the best selection for fine fabrics on the East Coast. They also offer numerous classes from beginner basic sewing classes all the way through advanced sewing techniques, machine embroidery, bag making, and many more. When you buy a machine from them, you become an owner, which qualifies you for discounts on notions, and other things. And if your machine needs a spa treatment in their service department, they will do an excellent job restoring it to optimum working order. I do wish, however, that some of the staff were more friendly. I probably would take more classes, and shop more often, if I were made to feel more welcome. read more

Hidden gem. I am a photographer that was preparing for some upcoming newborn photoshoots and needed some posing fabric. I went to a big named box store first and walked around for hours without success. I randomly decided to just plug into Google fabric stores and was presented with The Sewing Studios address. It wasn't far from my current location so I gave it a go. Smaller than the big box store I just left but man!!! Service was awesome. I wish I remembered the woman's name that helped me but she was the best. I know nothing about fabric I only know what photoshoot visions I have. Drove a long ways to visit this shop for the Florida Shop Hop today. Saw several items that I was interested in purchasing. Had spent about 20 minutes walking around the store, picking up fabrics and had noticed an area called Bargain Bin and also a shop sample of robots that indicated "Pattern in Quilting room". Great. Went up to the front table (by the door we came in, there is more than one entrance) to inquire. First was 'where is the quilting room?'; she just waved her hand in the only direction away from the door I had entered. OK, asked a question about the Bargain Bin. She responded. well just look at it ( I did, and was only seeing retail prices, which is WHY I was asking). She got frustrated at my apparently stupid questions , and asked how would she know.... So, I tossed the fabrics I had selected on the cutting table and turned to walk out. all of a sudden a manager or someone swooped in to see if she could help. Sorry, too late, I don't do business with rude people. Oh, keep in mind this was a Fabric Shop Hop, bringing in quilters from out of town. I had already spent over a $100 in EACH of the three quilt shops I had visited before coming to this shop. read more

Totally worth the drive from Tampa. I mean, I am excited about this fabric store. My daughter and I were looking for a good ponte knit and she wanted to purchase it in person instead of ordering from somewhere online, so she could feel it and see the color. Don't even think about going to Joann Fabrics, which is the only thing we have in Tampa. We tried Jay's Fabrics out in South St. Pete but they did not have a good selection of knits. I had high hopes for The Sewing Studio and I was not disappointed. From the moment you walk in you can tell this place is serious about sewing. This is the kind of fabric store you used to see 20-30 years ago before big box stores came along and drove a lot of the little places out of business. The fabric selection is complete. Bridal fabrics including exquisite Alencon laces. Specialty fabrics. Every notion you could ever think of needing. Cool sewing machines. High quality remnants. Bargain fabrics too. We found the prices to be in line with or even lower than what you would expect to pay. The beautiful ponte knit we picked out was only $12 a yard, and it's a gorgeous color with a soft hand and lovely drape. It's a designer fabric at a very affordable price. Perhaps the best thing about The Sewing Studio is the customer service. Donna kept her eye on us and let us know she was there for us if we needed it, but she was happy to let us do our own thing. Then my daughter wanted a second opinion, and Donna stepped up to the plate, helping her decide between two fabrics. Donna also shepherded us around to help find the threads and notions we needed since it was our first time there. You tell me where you're going to get service like that. Not at Joann! Speaking of that, if you've been to Joann you know the cattle call of waiting for your fabric to be cut and then waiting again to check out. Not at The Sewing Studio. Every moment of my time there was a pleasure. My only regret was that I couldn't stay longer to browse and absorb everything they have to offer at this excellent fabric store. This store is smaller the many of the larger craft stores. However I love this store, they have classes, the staff is very knowledgeable and they have a great selection for its size. I have been coming to this store for over 20 years, I went to sewing summer camp here back in the day. They still have the pac man machine I used to play as a child when I was at sewing summer camp. There is a variety of fabrics and they are good quality. They have such neat and unique accents for your projects there also. The best part is describing your project to the staff and them making amazing suggestions to help. The shopping experience here is wonderful. read more

The only "but" I can say is the prices are retail and there are no 40-50% off coupons like their major competitor. I was notified that they do have select "sale" days throughout the year. I say all of this to say if you are looking for a great selection, want a fair price AND want to support a local business, than this is your place (especially when they're not busy because all attention will be on you if you desire)! Yes to this hidden gem!!!! Coming from NYC where most of the fabric stores are either in Long Island (hobby lobby, Joann's) or Manhattan (garment district) I was in awe of all of the amazing fabrics and the amazing knowledge of the workers. There was just so much to look at that I was literally here for well over an hour. I have never seen so many machines and fabric in one place. Everything was nicely laid out and there were a lot of places to get fabric stations to get them cut so that I didn't wait at all. I've seen better fabric here than many places I've gone to in manhattan. There was a HUGE selection of bathing suit fabric ( which I can never seem to find) both pattern, shiny and regular. The only down fall of this place was the prices. I think the cheapest fabric I saw was 11.99 a yard. The Lycra was 12.99 and up some as high as 32.99 . There was no sales ( I asked) and there were no discounts. I did sign up for their email list so hopefully I get something there for the future purchases I will be making. First and foremost the fabric selection is pretty good, they have a large variety of things that a sewer might need to finish a project. The staff is however is rude and have no customer service skills. I was thinking that maybe it was just the first time I came in, but over the course of a year I've came into the store on four separate occasions to not be greeted. I have walked around for more than 10 minutes each time and no one said anything or asked did I need help. Not so much as a hello. With places like Joann's or micheals and hobby lobby that have cheaper prices and coupons the least the employees in this store could do is greet you. How can anyone not give Sewing Studio 5 stars? Seriously!!! Once upon a time, I imagined that I could use a sewing machine and make yards of fabric into wonderful outfits. I was so swept up in my lil daydream that my wonderful sisters bought me a brand spankin' new sewing machine as a birthday present. YAY, HOW FUN! Well, after the initial excitement wore off; I realized that I did not hand sew very well, nor did I ever use a sewing machine before. I placed my sewing machine on my dresser like a prized trophy and never used it until years later. Thankfully, I snapped out of my ridiculousness and found a sewing master to teach me the ways of the thread. If I can yelp for tummy yummies, then damnit; I will yelp for sewing stores! So, you can kinda guess how I ended up at the Sewing Studio. I couldn't help but notice how unassuming the store front was while parking, but walking into this store was a serious sensory overload! I'm talking about brightly colored fabric, high end sewing machinery, and endless walls of supplies! This was serious sewing jackpot! Okay, so try to visualize the following: -Arcade and chair right by the front door to occupy your uninterested SO -Stretchy mesh fabrics to your left in the back corner by the entrance followed by the front register -Right side walls are filled with various machine parts, supplies, ribbons, & tools -Right aisle has all the machinery -Left aisle has sewing related knick knacks mixed in with some machines -Buttons wall is on the left side followed by the patterns collection. Still with me? Good, because that's only half the store! The other half is obviously the FABRIC! There were so many types, colors, patterns, and textures that I couldn't even possibly describe them all to you! It really feels like they have everything! I even found sushi fabric, umm GTFO! You bet your sweet Mamaw that I bought that cute fabric and made a wristlet for my sushi obsessed bff! Moving on, the best part about initially exploring the studio was discovering the annex. In fact, the annex carried the chevron pattern I desired for the infinity scarves I wanted to make for my group of ladies. Huge score for me! Besides the stellar fabric selection; customer service here is always on point. On my latest visit, Jane went above and beyond to help me locate the right fabric that I needed for my bridesmaid dress project. She asked me what I was planning on doing and then gave me some helpful suggestions. She was so sweet about everything! I really appreciate the thought and detail that the store puts into their customer experience here. No wonder they have been around for 30 years! She was getting some fabric to practice with making bathing suits. We were mesmerized with the embroidery machines, pretty amazing. Prices on fabrics seem reasonable. They have quite a few on sale. The staff is friendly and welcoming. So informative as well. Checked into Yelp to get the 30% off coupon off regular priced fabric, so don't forget to do that!
