The Wanderer Shop is the creation of Marisa Folz. After years of working out of Airstream trailers and a store front in Flagler Village, she opened this store in Oakland Park in May of 2021. The store name and eclectic inventory was inspired by Folz's travels. The store is thoughtfully arranged with two rooms of pastel hued clothing for men, women, and kids, accessories, house and home goods, and carefully curated gifts that are sure to delight their recipients. Sparing you a lot of the details, I received an invite to a private fundraiser party hosted by drag queens. As it was it was for a good cause and because I'm an "easy Marq" as a financial contributor for such events I would of course attend. But seeing how the hosts were financially sponsoring everything involved, I thought it appropriate to bring them some little token party favor gift in appreciation. But what to get them would be the question, as I have no experience with drag. That is, however, setting aside a long 1962 event when, as a college fraternity pledge, my brothers along with our next door sorority sisters dressed me to arrive as the blind of the interfraternity president in order to make him the humiliated laughing stock of an interfraternity garden party as being stuck with a "blind date from hell." LOL! Anyway, I found Illusions Boutique to be loaded with all sorts of things from dresses to large sized (men's size 12) high heel shoes, wigs, makeup, various drag looking accessories and small gift items. The small gift items I selected were some fragranced rainbow colored soap bars which were custom made not only in gay rainbow colors but in varying select fragrances by a person here in Lauderdale. Overall it turned out to be a very pleasant shopping experience and the store clerk couldn't have been more helpful, charming and polite. I usually find ribbed tank tops that are clearanced from the summer but none here for some reason. Anyways, while browsing I saw an oversized Old Navy Hi - Bounce Balls machine (see video). I dropped in a quarter and excitedly watched the multi colored rubber ball roll down the winding path and drop into a bottom cup where it was grabbed and the bounced it on the floor all the way out the front door. No purchase today although had a blast.

On this Saturday afternoon, it was pretty busy with three attendants at checkout. Although mine appeared to be rushed, he was seasoned and worked the customer line efficiently. I left happy and the birthday boy was happier still!
