Ask the Community - SF Basketball Academy

We are looking for a basketball clinic for our 6 year old daughter and 11 year old son. Are your programs something that may be a good fit? Also, do you offer weekend sessions?

Hello we have partnered with the Boys & Girls Club of North San Mateo County. Please check their programs available all year at portal.theclubs.org

Where does the Academy training take place?

Hello. Hopefully this was answered already, but if it hasn't then our one on one personal training is either at your local park, meet at a local school basketball court area, one of the gymnasiums located all over daly city (usually Ben Franklin or…

We are looking at this program for our 5 year old. He love watching basketball but is just learning to dribble. Does anyone have a sense of how the program is set up for young beginners?

Hi, yes for beginners we start with fundamentals and the basics of basketball tailored specifically for the youngest athletes. The coaches/trainers teach them stationary to movement dribbling, pivoting, hand placement to get them ready in a triple…

He has navigated multiple injuries with me without ever letting me lose momentum, always adapting, always finding a way to keep me moving forward safely. What I didn't expect was how much he'd also build up my confidence along the way. I'm not just stronger physically; I genuinely feel better about myself. Richard is rare in that he doesn't just show up as a trainer, he shows up as someone who actually cares. He's become a confidante and, at this point, a friend. If you're looking for someone who will meet you exactly where you are and push you further than you thought possible, Richard is it.

I'd been wanting to start strength training for months but struggled to find options in the area. After passing RHAX on West Portal by chance and seeing how nice the space looked, I decided to take the leap. Before starting, we had a quick phone consultation to go over my goals and experience level. I'm new to strength training and was nervous about signing up, but Richard has made the overall experience very approachable and I look forward to our sessions because of the results I'm seeing. Richard is knowledgeable and thoughtful in the workouts he designs. He's conscious of any injuries or weakness I might have going into each session, and will tailor the workout accordingly. The sessions go by quickly (I don't find myself checking the time and wishing the hour was over like I do during some group fitness classes..) and they're challenging and effective. I feel myself getting stronger and more confident every session. As a gym owner, you can tell Richard has put a lot of thought into the space he's built and the overall client experience. If you're new to strength training like me and looking for an approachable and knowledgeable trainer, I highly recommend working with Richard!

If I can give it a no stars, I would have. The biggest issue wasn't the facility--it was the management. The manager was unable to clearly explain the membership policies or billing practices and seemed unfamiliar with how certain charges were applied. Instead of providing straightforward answers, I received confusing and inconsistent explanations, making what should have been a simple conversation unnecessarily frustrating. The membership payment process is also misleading. Planet Fitness requires a bank account for billing and advertises that you can add a "backup" credit card. What they don't make sufficiently clear is that if they have to charge your backup credit card, they may assess an additional fee. That feels more like a penalty than a convenience and should be disclosed much more transparently. Given this experience, I cannot recommend this Planet Fitness location to anyone. Local store customer service was disappointing, including the store manager, was unhelpful, and the billing practices left me with little confidence in the company. For a publicly traded company (NYSE: PLNT), I expected far better professionalism, transparency, and accountability. If anyone from Planet Fitness corporate (hope Ms. Colleen Keating, CEO of PF, is reading this) genuinely wants to understand why this experience was so disappointing, I'm happy to explain the details and provide constructive feedback.

I have been a member here for 8+ years. I check in between 4-5x / week. Not only is the place IMMACULATE from literally the freshly painted ceiling to the new floors but they now offer elite equipment and body building machines from brands like Skelecore and Nautilus. They also still have a good amount of the previous hoist machines. Even with all the new equipment the place somehow feels bigger. The spacing is very well done and the flow from entry to the floor is well organized. In addition to the absolutely beautiful cleaning and maintenance, ALL machines are now in working order. There are new hip thrust machines, really nice new machines for back and chest, and the stand out is the epic leg day palace. What was once the basketball court has been converted into a literally haven of RACKS! If you have ever hit this gym during rush hour on a Tuesday you know getting a rack was sometimes a 30-45 minute wait. No more my friends! Racks on racks on racks. They also got a couple new leg presses and tons of new accessory machines. This gym has everything I personally need to hit all body parts and cardio for my split. The weights are varied. There are squat racks and platforms for training Olympic lifts as well as racks with safety cages. There are dumbbells up to 125lbs, cables, treadmills, stair masters, ellipticals and bikes. The group X room is open except during classes. I've tried a few classes here my favorite is Zumba with Maritza. I usually just check the App for the schedule. The pool area is basic and pretty much still the same except a lot cleaner now. There's a sauna and a steam room and a two lane pool. The bathrooms are as clean as you would expect a busy gym bathroom to be. And ten times cleaner than before. A lot of the staff have been here for years and years which speaks volumes. Everyone I have spoken to is friendly and helpful. Shout out to Salde and Sandra who are the best. The manager Francisco has been here since I can remember, is always kind and is very friendly. A couple years ago a better deal than I had been paying for came up and Francisco suggested I let my current membership expire or however it works and I got the yearly for a better price. He is always looking out for members and does his best to hold the ones who don't pick up after themselves accountable. Now that this place is spotless, it will mean that people who workout here MUST take care of the space better! I totally think it's possible but I'm also prepared to be that girl asking you to put your weights back pls. PARKING is easy if you don't go during peak rush hours. The stairmasters have been broken for some time now with the first one being broken for 2-3 months. One by one they broke & now they're all broken. I understand gym equipment can break from time to time but the fact that ALL stairmasters are broken, 30% of ellipticals are broken, a handful of treadmills, & the weight machines upstairs are missing pins, broken cables, etc is just pitiful from a gym like this. VARIOUS THINGS HAVE BEEN BROKEN FOR MONTHSSSS!!! The LEAST they could do is communicate to us what is going on & what they are doing to rectify this situation. I usually do not write reviews unless necessary to make a change to the establishment. I hope this review finds its way to someone who can do something Side note: this gym also is starting to have an issue with people hogging machines while doomscrolling on their phones between sets as they are "resting". If that grind your gears, this is a heads up. Side side note: notice how management only replies to "positive reviews"; this is a critical review from an intermediate gym goer(3 years of hypertrophy training) for some context.
