Honestly it used to be fine. Lately I've PRIMARILY been using the treadmills, but guess what?? EVERYTHING IS BROKEN! At least 1/3 of treadmills are broken every single time I go, sometimes for months! Yesterday I counted 7!! Along with a couple of ellipticals, and previously, every single stair master except for 1. I sometimes only have time to go after work, when there is a huge line!! Multiple weight machines are all broken and old as well upstairs. Tons of people came for the basketball courts, which they closed down! The same machines were broken for so long that I complained to the front desk. They told me that they "put in multiple requests, but it takes weeks for the repairmen to come. Once they do, there are new machines that break after the broken ones have been fixed." Why would it take weeks to repair machines, just to have them break over and over and over? I've never seen this many broken machines at any other gym. The workers also yell at us to get out once we get close to closing time. A few times I was changing in the bathroom, and someone told me over and over again that the gym was closed and to get out. Should I just run out naked? I've heard them yell over the intercom, and make unprofessional "gen z" noises and screeches. Honestly if I didn't get charged the stupid "initiation fee" and "annual fee" I would COMPLETELY run the other way, no hesitation. Literally we should get reimbursed for the trauma we are experiencing and all our time wasted!!

It's now been a year since I started at YuBalance and I'm still on a steady 3x/week workout…read moreschedule. I have never, in my life, had a consistent exercise routine I was able to stick to for a year. More than that, I look forward to it and I often find myself with extra energy during the sessions. The coaches at YuBalance taught me a vocabulary of exercises, and every month they mix them up a bit so you don't get too used to anything. But there's a lot to appreciate when you know the moves. Yes, you may have done a forward or backward lunge many times, but how deep is your lunge? How heavy are the dumbbells you're using, how good is your balance? I love the fact that like Bikram, once you know the core moves, your workout can really focus on form and strength, rather than thinking, "am I doing this right?" When you know an exercise, you can scale it up to be challenging and the instructors will tell you how to do that. There are still two 30lb dumbbells I'm nowhere close to conquering (yet). I'm not the lightest I've ever been (that has a lot to do with nutrition), but I'm the strongest I've ever been, and I look better than I've ever looked. At 57, being fit is really important and the core strength I've gotten from YuBalance is a godsend. I'm counting on this to keep me independent as I age. Finally, the instructors have such a great attitude. They have a sense of humor, they introduce me to new music, and are all very encouraging of my progress. I feel really lucky to have access to this in my life.

The model of having the screens showing the exercises, the demo from the instructors at the beginning, and their coaching during the class make this a worthwhile exercise. While the routines here don't feel as intense as the Burkingame location, you absolutely will get a workout. And any class with Dionne or JR will be a great time. Showers, changing rooms, 2 bathrooms, water filling station, lockers (bring your own locks) all available. San Bruno parking has an awful system and aggressive enforcement, so don't forget to pay.

F45 gives me a great mix of similar HIIT-style workouts, but in a more fun, community-driven, and cost-effective format. I love that there are separate cardio and strength days--it keeps things balanced and never boring. Compared to OTF, F45 feels more well-rounded. I do sometimes miss machines, so I'll take a day or two to hit the gym, but F45 is my main workout. This location is conveniently located close to 280/101. It's spacious, clean, the equipment is well maintained and the coaches are always upbeat and supportive. The unlimited pass is also flexible and lets you visit other studios which is convenient when I'm running late from work or traveling. I've checked out F45 in SF, San Mateo, Burlingame, Pittsburgh, and Newport Beach Highly recommend if you want variety, structure, and a strong fitness community.

That's when I came across the Sunset Gym this past December. I started my membership with a week long pass and eventually converted it to a monthly membership. (The payment for the week pass went into my first month of membership) Pricing wise this place is a very reasonable compared to the bigger chains (i.e Fitness SF), but admittedly you are also restricted to one location. For me though, that's not a problem as I wanted a neighborhood gym more than anything. The gym itself is great - it's old school (think OG Gold's Gym style). Downstairs has plenty of free weights and a good selection of machines. Upstairs has a dedicated Cardio area, a spot for stretching, as well as additional free-weights and an outdoor area. Staff I've interacted with so far have been wonderful. Very glad to have found a great gym close by to where I live

Definitely a transit-first or walk-from-your-home-type gym, 9th and Irving is not known for its parking (though it IS known for it's ever-present MTA carts zipping around). Love the towels, the multiple bathrooms and showers, the fans everywhere, and the small outdoor area on the second floor.

It can be confusing as to where the entrance to it is. I came here while visiting during Superbowl week. The gym is big, 2.5 floors. Cardio machines are scattered throughout. The free weights are scattered between two areas (lighter and heavier). You could feel the cold from the outside seeping into the gym all the days I visited. Based on the size of the gym another setup of cable machines should be added. It is a tight fit in that area. Large locker room. Showers do not have any soap dispensers so be sure to bring your own. Each PF choose to provide it or do not, this one does not. Many people choose to use the bathroom stalls as changing rooms, forcing patrons that actually need to use the stall for what they are intended for to wait. One stall actually does not have a toilet in it. There are signs in the gym that ask patrons to be mindful of their time on equipment which is great. Unfortunately, there are no signs stating patrons should be listening to music with headphones. Each day I came in, a gentleman was playing his music loud from his phone and singing along. When asked for him to turn it down and also off, he rolled his eyes. The facility is clean. Staff is hit or miss upon check-in. One didn't even look up from his book when I walked up in the morning.
